Paradise 2000 Netrek Client RC5
Paradise 2000 represents my bend of the Paradise Netrek client. more>>
Paradise 2000 represents my bend of the Paradise Netrek client. Paradise 2000 Netrek Client is not a fork, because that would imply parallel development, but no one else has done anything with the client since about five years ago.
Paradise 2000 is in fact one of the most, if not the most, actively developed Netrek clients available today. It is for Linux (and FreeBSD) only, and is not open source*. Dont let the Paradise name fool you, it works just fine on standard bronco servers. Nobody has even played a game of Paradise Netrek for years!
The biggest new feature of the client, not found in any other, is the sound system. While the old Paradise client, Ted Turner, COW, and COW ports (Netrek1999,2000) have a simple sound effect system, its crap. Especially the one used by COW. The Paradise/Ted Turner one is better, and is partially written by me, though you wouldnt know that*.
The Paradise 2000 sound system has psychoacoustic stereo effects that place sounds based on where they happen. If someone on the left blows up, you can tell they are on the left just from the sound. The newest version of Paradise-2000 has a sound system with speech output using IBMs ViaVoice TTS. If a teammate sends a carrying message, the client will actually say something like, "F one carrying five to org."
Main features:
- See weapons on galactic map
- Auto-rotate galaxy to put playing teams on left side
- Dashboard timer to show repair or refit time remaining
- See the army count for the planet your are orbiting
- Remap your keys via the help window. Just push the key you want over the name of the function you want to assign to it.
- Use the same key for both bombing armies and picking armies. The client can tell by context with one would make sense.
- You can set configuration options to different values for different server types.
- Double buffering support for graphics. When turned on, eliminates flicker. Very useful for LCD monitors.
- Extensive support for enhanced observer mode:
- See all players tractors and pressors while observing.
- You can lock onto a cloaked player and observe them.
- All your ship stats will reflect the player you are observing. Even torps out, kills, and army capacity.
- Your ship and player letter dont get drawn on top of the player you are observings ship and letter.
- Observers wont have stats shown in your player list, cluttering it up unnecessarily..
- Stereo sound effects!
- Highly configurable speech synthesis!
- Option to omit the team letter of ships on the galactic. Just show 0 instead of F0, since you can tell the team by the color of the letter.
- Game score on hockey servers calculated and put on the galactic for easy reference.
- Cool looking streaking background stars when transwarping on Bronco servers.
- Flags on the dashboard gauges indicating the fuel/shields/hull needed to refit or transwarp.
- Single key transwarp on Bronco servers. Push - to automatically lock onto your base and warp to it!
- 19FLAGS protocol enhancement. Reduces messed up flags from packetloss. Hockey players, this will eliminate stuck tractors and pressors.
- Works with WindowMaker. Window manager delete buttons work.
- Hockey bug fix, puck doesnt cloak at warp 15 or 31.
- Support for short packets 2. Reduces bandwidth and improves playability with packetloss.
- Supports SBHOURS feature, see how many base hours someone has.
- Shrink phasers, like BRMH.
- Support for wheel mice. The wheel will scroll the message windows, and can be bound to actions like other mouse buttons.
- Re-enter the game after dying by pushing the spacebar, instead of clicking on the right team window. Faster and prevents selecting the wrong team on accident in 4v4 hockey games.
- 32 position ship bitmaps. Your ship rotations will look smoother.
- Small red circle around ship shows det radius.
- Tic marks to show exact ship heading.
- Arrow on puck to indicate direction.
- ID of player you are tractoring displayed next to your ship.
- Configure what columns are in the player list, both the one-column and two-column list. You can also change the width of the each field, so show fewer digits for instance.
- UDP portswap option that lets the client work through NAT firewalls, like Linux IP_MASQ, without a special module.

NcFTP Client 3.2.1
NcFTP Client is a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client applications. more>>
NcFTPs purpose is to provide a powerful and flexible interface to the Internet standard File Transfer Protocol. It is intended to replace the stock ftp program that comes with the system.
Although the program appears to be rather spartan, youll find that ncftp has a wealth of valuable performance and usage features. The program was designed with an emphasis on usability, and it does as much as it can for you automatically so you can do what you expect to do with a file transfer program, which is transfer files between two interconnected systems.
Some of the cooler features include progress meters, filename completion, command-line editing, background processing, auto-resume downloads, bookmarking, cached directory listings, host redialing, working with firewalls and proxies, downloading entire directory trees, etc., etc.
The ncftp distribution comes with the useful utility programs ncftpget(1) and ncftpput(1) which were designed to do command-line FTP. In particular, they are very handy for shell scripts. This version of ncftp no longer does command-line FTP, since the main ncftp program is more of a browser-type program.

Ksvn Client 0.4
Ksvn is a new Subversion client that looks like tortoiseSVN. more>>
Ksvn is a new Subversion client that looks like tortoiseSVN.
It can be used from the Konqueror context menu and replaces the standard KDE SubVersion menu. You can directly add, revert, and delete files from the commit dialog with a files context menu.
Installation:
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system. If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute `configure itself.
Running `configure takes a while. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.
2. Type `make to compile the package.
3. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.
4. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean.
Enhancements:
- The possibility to choose a file when adding a directory was added.

Netrek 2.13.0
The Netrek Vanilla Server is an open source software package that provides a multi-player battle simulation server. more>>
Netrek Vanilla Server is an open source software package that provides a multi-player battle simulation server for Netrek clients.
Netrek is the probably the first video game which can accurately be described as a "sport." It has more in common with basketball than with arcade games or Quake. Its vast and expanding array of tactics and strategies allows for many different play styles; the best players are the ones who think fastest, not necessarily the ones who twitch most effectively.
Netrek can be enjoyed as a twitch game, since the dogfighting system is extremely robust, but the things that really set Netrek apart from other video games are the team and strategic aspects. Team play is dynamic and varied, with roles constantly changing as the game state changes. Strategic play is explored in organized league games; after more than six years of league play, strategies are still being invented and refined.
Enhancements:
- core change from 10 to 50 frames per second
- refinements made as a result of clue games
- increase in weapon and ship direction information given to clients
- fix transwarp at one update per second bug
- fix several race conditions

Net::Nessus::Client 0.09
Net::Nessus::Client is a Nessus client module. more>>
Net::Nessus::Client is a Nessus client module.
SYNOPSIS
# Connect to the Nessus Server
require Net::Nessus::Client;
my $client = Net::Nessus::Client->new(host => localhost,
port => 1241,
user => joe,
password => my_password);
The Nessus program is a Client/Server application offering a framework for lots of security related scanners, so-called plugins. The idea is not to create a separate scanner for any possible security hole, but to reimplement only the most important parts and let the Nessus Server (nessusd) do the most part of the work.
Clients are typically available as GUI applications, for example based on the GTK (nessus), Java or Win32 applications. This module is another Nessus client written in Perl, but without GUI.
You start using the module by opening a connection to a Nessus Server: This will create a Nessus client object for you. This object offers methods that you can later use, for example retrieving the list of available plugins, start a scan, set preferences and so on.

FlashUnity Client 0.3
FlashUnity is a channel-based approach to an XML flash communications server and chat room. more>>
FlashUnity is a channel-based approach to an XML flash communications server and chat room.
Using the concept of channels and filters the FlashUnity server becomes extremely flexible and very easy to extend. Also, by using channels it is possible to run multiple modular functions within the same server.
Filters allow you to prefilter input for all channels or provide other functionality to all channels. This is a total rewrite of CyberSS, and the APIs and XML have multiple major changes. Each module, filter, and the chat client are in their own seperate PEAR package.
Enhancements:
- Room changes now work properly, and there are Uselist updates.
- This is the final release before 1.0.

Net::DAAP::Client provides objects representing connections to DAAP servers. You can fetch databases, playlists, and songs. This module was written based on a reverse engineering of Apples iTunes 4 sharing implementation. As a result, features that iTunes 4 doesnt support (browsing, searching) arent supported here.
Each connection object has a destructor, so that you can forget to disconnect without leaving the server expecting you to call back.
WARNING
If you store your object in a global variable, Perl cant seem to disconnect gracefully from the server. Until I figure out why, always store your object in a lexical (my) variable.

Linux Napster Client is a console napster client written by Kevin Sullivan. It runs on Linux, OpenBSD, and other systems. Current releases of nap, such as 1.5.4, are very stable. They can run for weeks at a time without crashing or user intervention.
Nap, writtin by Kevin Sullivan sometime in 1999, was one of the first napster clients besides Shawn Fannings original Windows client. It was also the first client that ran on linux. Kevin learned much about the inner workings of the napster protocol by collaborating with Jordan Ritter, who was one of the co-founders of Napster and its Chief Server Architect at the time.
I took over the development of nap in February 2001. First I posted patches, but soon the patches became so long that I started making releases. A lot of features were added, and some existing ones redesigned, to make nap more stable, user-friendly, and reliable. However, the original "look and feel" has been preserved. Probably nap is one of the most robust napster clients for linux today. It has been packaged for a variety of popular platforms, and it is now shipped with some distributions of Debian Linux and OpenBSD.
Enhancements:
- This release changes the default meta-server to www.gotnap.com.
