Kopete Reloading Kit 0.2.1
Kopete Reloading Kits goal is to improve Kopete GUI. more>>
Kopete Reloading Kits goal is to improve Kopete GUI. Except its cool styling feature, Kopete hasnt visually changed a lot for months...
You can see in the screenshot, the current result of my attempts to refresh the contact list visual aspect.
The aim of that project is to provide to the Kopete users a pack of well made patches that will give them the ability to customize their favorite IM client without having to write a single line of C++.
Everything will be stored as bitmaps, which means everyone will be able to create its own theme, youll only need Gimp and a few minutes of patience...
The screenshot you can see isnt a mockup but what is currently displayed on my computer, Ill try to improve it before releasing a first pack.
NOTICE : As a patch archive, youll have to fully compile kopete source code in order to benefit from these functionalties...

Daemon Shield 0.4.0
Daemon Shield is a Linux intrusion prevention daemon that scans for brute force break-in attacks in real time. more>>
Find IPs of crackers and kiddies attempting to break in. Creates iptables rules to block attackers IPs for a specified period of time.
It works by using handlers which are created to watch for attacks against a given service, such as ssh, telnet, ftp, etc. The handlers can be enabled or disabled on a case-by-case basis.
Each handler defines its logfile, search pattern, trigger threshold, and method of determing attacking IPs. When a list of IPs to be dropped is created, it uses a customizable iptables rule to block those IPs from any type of connection to the host.
After the given blocktime, the iptable rule is deleted. The handlers only looks at the logfiles lines that are within a given window of time, from the present till a user-definable amount of seconds back in time.
Currently, ssh and pam modules are functional and enabled by default. The pam handler watches for any "authentication failure" lines and operates accordingly, so it should block any attacks against pam-enabled service.
Main features:
- Creates iptables log & reject rules against attackers IPs.
- Background daemon continuously watches logfiles for activity.
- Logs to syslog.
- Modular attack monitors, easy to extend to other services.
- Block rules expire after specified period of time.
- Blocklist file also serves as log for blocklist activity.
- Email notification for IP block rule creation.
- Retains blocklists from one process to the next.
- Iptable rules are dynamic. They dissappear when the daemon stops and are reloaded when the daemon restarts.
- Only 1 instance of daemonshield will run at one time.

IRC Defender is a Perl program for protecting your IRC network against malware. It can protect you against virus drones, general troublemakers, ban evasion, and attacks.
The program will background, and auto join the channel you have defined where the commands given below are accepted. Please be sure to secure your channel (e.g. set +O on it) so that normal users may not access these commands!
While the program is running, you may edit its config file then do a remote rehash (e.g. via /rehash defender.*) to cause its configuration files to be re-read. When you do this any modules you have removed from the configuration will be unloaded, and any you have added will be freshly loaded. Any that remain unchanged will be re-initialised as though the bot was just reloaded by hand.

GladePyC 1.6
GladePyC is a Python code generator tool, from Glade XML save file, to the low-level part of PyGtk, the Python - Gtk+ binding more>>
GladePyC is a Python code generator tool, from Glade XML save file, to the low-level part of "PyGtk", the Python - Gtk+ binding. Glade is a GUI builder for the Gtk+ GUI toolkit. PyGtk is the gateway between Python and Gtk+.
Why:
Those who know surely have already made the remark: "But why on earth doesnt he use libglade ?"... Here is what I think of it:
- There is roughly two approaches to working with Python and Glade: a run-time one (libglade) where UI descriptions are loaded during execution, and a compile-time one where UI descriptions are statically compiled into target language source code. Both have strong and weak points (I wont debate here), but for python the code generation option was not enough developped since GLC (advertised on Glades links page) is not object oriented. GladePyC aims to fill this little gap.
- The python binding of libglade loads the GUI using the high-level, object-oriented layer (gtk.py), not the basic layer; This means at least 3 objects per widget are present in memory (Gtk+, libglades XML and gtk.pys) which I find is a waste of memory for things we dont need once loaded (and by adding layers it may slow down things notably).
- If you need dynamic interfaces, where multiple instances of the same window class are created, you have to reload the UI description (analyzing XML and all) because libglade doesnt know how to make a new actual widget tree from the in-memory, XML represented, UI description. Additionally you have to reload from a file: loading from a string in memory is unusable because a function is missing in the Python binding.
- It requires an additional library ! Ok its not a pain to install it, but its always better if you dont need it; Actually I want OpenVMS as a potential target, and it is lacking libglade.
Additionally gladepyc has some features I wanted, that are not found in libglade nor GLC:
- Object-orientedness (1): windows and widget subtrees have their building code generated as classes, so that multiple, independant instances of them can be created.
- Individual widgets are accessible by their name as attributes of instanciated objects.
- Object-orientedness (2): signal connections are made to methods of so-called "controller" objects (Java calls them "listeners"), not functions. There is support for connecting a whole set of signals at once, based on the name of callbacks, which presence is checked as methods of the controller. This allows each window (or subpart) to be managed by a separate controller without having to pass additional arguments to callbacks.
- Object-orientedness (3): data classes can be made, to serve as quick access method to data stored at runtime in widget instances. Each value is accessed as an attribute of the instanciated object, through an attribute with the same name as the corresponding widget.
- and there is a lot more: see README. I will write documentation when things have matured.
- As you can see, there are some benefits to static code generation approach, which are difficult to achieve with a run-time library (though in our case it would be able to, since Python is interpreted and can dynamically define new classes and functions)

CPAN::Reporter 0.38
CPAN::Reporter is a Perl module to provides Test::Reporter support for CPAN.pm. more>>
CPAN::Reporter is a Perl module to provides Test::Reporter support for CPAN.pm.
SYNOPSIS
From the CPAN shell:
cpan> install CPAN::Reporter
cpan> reload cpan
cpan> o conf init test_report
CPAN::Reporter is an add-on for the CPAN.pm module that uses Test::Reporter to send the results of module tests to the CPAN Testers project. Support for CPAN::Reporter is available in CPAN.pm as of version 1.88.
The goal of the CPAN Testers project (http://testers.cpan.org/) is to test as many CPAN packages as possible on as many platforms as possible. This provides valuable feedback to module authors and potential users to identify bugs or platform compatibility issues and improves the overall quality and value of CPAN.
One way individuals can contribute is to send test results for each module that they test or install. Installing CPAN::Reporter gives the option of automatically generating and emailing test reports whenever tests are run via CPAN.pm.
GETTING STARTED
The first step in using CPAN::Reporter is to install it using whatever version of CPAN.pm is already installed. CPAN.pm will be upgraded as a dependency if necessary.
cpan> install CPAN::Reporter
If CPAN.pm was upgraded, it needs to be reloaded.
cpan> reload cpan
If upgrading from a very old version of CPAN.pm, users may be prompted to renew their configuration settings, including the test_report option to enable CPAN::Reporter.
If not prompted automatically, users should manually initialize CPAN::Reporter support. After enabling CPAN::Reporter, CPAN.pm will automatically continue with interactive configuration of CPAN::Reporter options. (Remember to commit the CPAN configuration changes.)
cpan> o conf init test_report
cpan> o conf commit
Once CPAN::Reporter is enabled and configured, test or install modules with CPAN.pm as usual.
For example, to force CPAN to repeat tests for CPAN::Reporter to see how it works:
cpan> force test CPAN::Reporter
