FONTpage 2.0

FONTpage 2.0

FONTpage is a Python font viewing/image-generating utility. more>>
FONTpage is a Python font viewing and image-generating utility. It displays system fonts and allows you to change the font size and color, background color, font face, bold, and italics.
It also has the ability to input the text to be displayed, which you can choose to save as a PNG file. It is handy to view fonts and styles quickly, or to make "logo" graphics.
It was written to supersede wxFontView, as the pyGTK toolkit is much lighter and more widely used.
Enhancements:
- New "Display Font" feature opens popup window with complete alphabet (upper and lower case) and 0-9.
- Window shows current font with current size -- use multiple windows to compare different fonts.
- Font size now scales up to 256 pts (was 128)
- Config file will now track last window dimensions when the application is restarted.
- If user font directory directory (~/.fonts) does not exist, FONTpage will create one. This is to facilitate installing and deleting fonts, which FONTpage will only do on a per-user basis. (This is to avoid problems.)

KCad is a screensaver for KDE 3, based on KCad 1.1 (a old screensaver for Kde 2.2). KCad is a KDE Control+Alt+Canc screensaver.

KCAD is a very simple screensaver for KDE. In fact, it may remind you of certain OTHER evil screensavers. This was designed so that you can "trick" your Boss (in the BOFH sense) into thinking that youre running Windows NT on your workstation/server, even if you are running (insert UNIX clone name here). By default, it looks very KDE-ish, but you can make it look more convincing by putting the following text into the file $HOME/.kde/share/config/kcad.kssrc.

Installation:

./configure --prefix=/path/to/kde --with-qt-includes=/path/to/qt-includes
make all
su
make install
exit

NOTE:
- KUbuntu prefix is /usr

WIGS 2.0

WIGS 2.0

WIGS is both an API to talk to a GPS receiver over the serial port via the NMEA protocol. more>>
WIGS is both an API to talk to a GPS receiver over the serial port via the NMEA protocol supported by most GPS receivers, as well as an application that use this API.
The first phase of the WIGS project is now completed as weve published the API.
The second phase is to make an application to present the data received from the GPS in a simple and intuitive way.
The third phase, and also the most important phase, is to add a special mapping feature which allows the user to load any scanned map and, as long as that map is calibrated by providing a set of known coordinates on that map (usually the corners of the map), present the users current position on that map.
Enhancements:
- The API was completely rewritten for better integration into the GUI.
- Third party communications drivers written by developers other than the development team are supported.
- Some minor bugs were fixed.

WmG 2.0.2

WmG 2.0.2

WmG is a dockapp plugin for Gaim. more>>
WmG applet is a dockapp plugin for Gaim. That is, once the plugin is started a dockapp appears, which can be conviniently dragged to the windowmaker dock.
The dockapp shows the top 3 buddies from Gaim, sorted by whatever algorithm was selected in the Gaim preferences. Clicking either of the buddies causes a new conversation window to be created for that buddy (unless one already exists, in which case the existing one will be used).
Additionally, the dockapp features a scrolling message thingy, which displays events occurring, such as buddies logging on and off, becoming idle, going away or coming back.
WmG was selected as the name of this program, because WmGaim was already spoken for.
Version restrictions:
- Unloading the plugin unfortunately requires a restart of gaim.
- No protocol mini-icons are available for protocols other than msn and icq
Enhancements:
- This release fixes compilation issues with the latest Gaim betas, and introduces some graphical representation of buddy status for ICQ buddies.

Remo 0.2.0

Remo 0.2.0

Remo is a Rule Editor for ModSecurity. more>>
Remo is a Rule Editor for ModSecurity.
Main features:
- Ruby on rails application with ajax use
- Enter http requests, display them, edit them, delete them, rearrange them
- Edit the http headers of the requests
- Generate positive modsecurity2 ruleset
ModSecurity is not a simple toy. It is quite tricky to configure successfully. Many web applications are not very simple either. Bringing them together by writing a ModSecurity ruleset is very difficult. Modsecurity.org advertises a tested core ruleset granting you protection from most known attacks. But this is only a blacklist approach: All known dangerous traffic is filtered out.
A network firewall uses a whitelist approach; also called positive security model: Everything is dropped outside of a short and strict rulset. An application firewall should do exactly the same. (See Ivan Ristics thougts on positive security. Ivan Ristic is the man behind ModSecurity.)
But this comes with a catch: Your application does not come with a short and strict ruleset and writing one will be tough. This is the point where remo will come into play. It is meant as a graphical editor for this ruleset, thus helping you to generate a whitelist of valid requests to your application. Ideally you will be able to bundle this ruleset with every release of your online application. We are not there yet. Far from it to be honest. But the development has started and you are welcome to join in.
Enhancements:
- This first beta release brings the ability to import ModSecurity audit-logs and match them against the ruleset in the edit-area of Remo.
- This lets you check if the ruleset which you are developing will work with your online application in practice.

Marauroa 2.0.1

Marauroa 2.0.1

marauroa is a multiplayer online game framework server. more>>
Marauroa is ariannes content server.
Marauroa project is completely written in Java using a multithreaded server architecture with a UDP oriented network protocol, a MySQL based persistence engine and a flexible game system.
The game system is totally expandable and modifiable by game developers and is able to run Python scripts defining the games rules.
Marauroa is based on a design philosophy we called Action/Perception. Each turn a perception is send to the clients explaining what they currently perceive. Clients can ask the server to perform any action in their name using actions.
Marauroa is totally game agnostic and makes very little assumptions about what are you trying to do, allowing a great freedom to create any game type.
Main features:
- Java 1.4 compatible
- Persistent objects
- Transactional relational database support
- Delta and Delta-Delta Perceptions to reduce bandwidth usage
- Fully test case covered using Junit
- Turn based gameplay
- Nicely documented: Design and specifications available
- Based on a XP development model
- Follows KISS principle: Keep it simply stupid
- True Open Source Software: GNU/GPL
Marauroa is based on very simple principles:
- Clients communicate with the server, and vice-versa, using an UDP portable network protocol with reliability in mind to allow a stabler experience when online game lag occurs.
- You can develop an arianne client, using the arianne client framework, on any system that is able to compile C code.
- To play a game every player needs an account on the server that is identified by an username and a password.
- Players use their account to login into the server and then choose a player stored under their account to play with. The server then checks the login information using the mySQL backend and loads the player into the game using the persistence engine.
- Players send actions to the server. The action system is totally open and has nothing hard-coded so you can edit it totally to your game style. The server sends at regular intervals, called turns, a perception to each player to inform them about the state of the game and any relevant state modifications. Marauroas perception system is based on the Delta^2 ideology: simply send what has changed.
- The server executes some code each turn in order to move the game status on. Using this hook it is simple to code triggers, timeouts, conditions and whatever kind of behavior you need.
- The server transparently and automatically stores players and game status modifications on the persistence engine, and also information decided by the game developer using their game definition scripts.
- The server side game rules can be written in Python to allow simple and rapid development without needing to recompile the rules engine and without having to know anything about Marauroas internals. Games rules can also be coded in Java.
- The server generates statistics of usage which are stored in a mySQL database (so you can later generate fancy statistics from them). Or in case you dont require them, they can be disabled to save CPU cycles and disk space. Marauroa features a modular structure that means modules can be changed and disabled without affecting the operation of other modules.
- Both the server and clients are fully and wisely documented, with documentation about specification and design and not just API documentation.
Enhancements:
- A MySQL 4.0 incompatibility was fixed, namely a bug regarding IRPZone.ID and RPObject.hashCode that caused problems with HashMap.
- A memory leak because of a Sun bug was fixed.
- The servers speed was improved with several fixes.
