Free multiplexors software for linux

mplex13818 is an ISO 13818 stream multiplexer for real-time usage that handles both program and transport streams and PES.
It is designed to run uninterruptedly on a streaming server that propagates a number of ISO 13818 broadcast streams, reorganizing the streams in real time. mplex13818 project includes an EN 300468 SI table generator.
Main features:
- output is either a transport stream or a program stream
- input streams may be program streams, paketized elementary streams (PES) and transport stream, in any combination
- streams are kept in sync during multiplex, where possible
- normal real time operation obeys stream timing, but untimed operation is available for discfile conversion
- program information and stream compilation may be changed on the fly during operation
- program map table manipulation, descriptor filter/injection
- now includes an additional tool for EN 300468 SI table composition
Installation:
unpacking the tar archive and "make install" will place it in the /usr/local sub hierarchy.

there are additional diagnostic tools included: showts, ts2pes, pes2es. these are provided by third party, so i cannot explain details about them. the latter two are said to produce a nice stream dump when given the option -v. you are invited to write a man page or similar for these. otherwise check the sources for explanations.

m2psd is a fast MPEG-2 Program Stream demultiplexer. m2psd will demultiplex an MPEG 2 Program Stream into Elementary Streams (ES) or Packetized Elementary Streams (PES), provided that the packs are exactly 2048 bytes long. It was written for use with MPEG 2 Program Streams recorded by a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 or 350, and trimmed with Womble (Windows) or GOPChop (Linux).

mp2psd was written because all of the free software MPEG 2 demultiplexers I could find were very slow, and did not output the offset between the first video and audio timestamps.

The input MPEG Program Stream file name must be supplied as an argument for the application.

A base name for the output files may optionally be specified; if none is provided, the base name will be the input file name with all characters from the last dot to the end removed. The output filenames will be of the form basename-n.mpa and basename-n.mpv, for audio and video, respectively, where n is the stream number (0-31 for audio, 0-15 for video).

The "-t" option prints the difference between the first presentation time stamps of the video #0 and audio #0 streams (0xe0 and 0xc0) in milliseconds. This is useful as input to a multiplexer.

The "-a" option discards any partial MPEG audio frame at the start of audio streams, because some software gets upset at partial audio frames.

The "-p" option produces PES streams as output rather than elementary streams. This preserves the time stamps, but many programs cannot deal with PES streams. This option is mutually exclusive with the "-t" and "-a" options.

tcpproxy project is a proxy (or tunnel or redirector) for TCP/IP protocols. In standalone mode it waits for incoming connections forwarding them to another machine or starting a local server program.
Several programs with this function or something similiar are around. However, tcpproxys design goal was to let it operate on some kind of firewall.
Main features:
- Extensive logging to syslog,
- Interface based configuration,
- can bind to a particular interface on a multi-homed host,
- sets environment variables before calling a local server program,
- support for external access control programs,
- can be started from inetd or run in standalone mode.
tcpproxy was created with a transparent TCP proxy in mind. When its used to start local server programs (e.g. an FTP server) it can however also work as "port multiplexer" since it requires different configurations for different interfaces (there are no defaults).
Interface based configuration
tcpproxys services are always bound to a certain interface. Suppose you have a multi-homed host (e.g. a firewall) with the IP numbers 192.168.0.1 (part of your LAN) and 10.11.12.13 (connected to the Internet). The configuration

forwards then any connection made to your local interface on the NNTP port to the machine news.provider.com. The providers news server appears now to run on your firewall. Furthermore, if you for each port only a single interface where you want to have tcpproxys service, tcpproxy will not even bind to the others. For the example above this means that someone trying to connect to your external interface would only see a closed port.
Now suppose you want to use a second NNTP server from your LAN. You would first configure a second IP number on your internal interface, e.g. 192.168.0.2 and then reconfigure tcpproxy:

Depending on the incoming interface of a client request the connection is forwarded to one of the servers.
In this case the firewalls external interface is opened on port 119 and a port scan would show that theres some kind of service. If however someone connects to the outer interface the connection is immediatly dropped, simply because tcpproxy isnt configured to handle request on the interface 10.11.12.13 and tcpproxy doesnt accept service defaults.

Access control
tcpproxy implements access control by calling external, user provided, script, the so called "access control programs" (or in short: acps). I implemented them because I wanted to be able to deny service usage based on anything I like, not just on the clients IP number or its name.

Featherweight Linux is my Live-CD installable Linux distribution that I remastered from Feather Linux, which is built on knoppix technology. Youll find some great people over at Feather and you can find some good documentation there.
Their goal is to make a light and fast Linux with a very small footprint that can be installed on USB pen drives and such. My goal is a bit different. I want a full featured Linux that isnt bloated with a kazillion gigs of crap that Ill never use. I want a small footprint that is light and fast, even on older machines, but still carries a knockout punch.
So I took Feather and stripped out a bunch of apps that I never even thought of using. I wanted to make an easy to understand desktop that was compatible and easily configurable with the latest apps being developed, so I removed all of the window managers and installed a minimal KDE 3.3 desktop.
I included the most popular internet apps like the Mozilla Suite complete with plugins, Gaim, Gftp etc... I added full printer support and wifi support. In my test environment, it automatically detects and configures both my network printer (HP PSC 1210)and my linksys wireless card. Hopefully, itll do the same for you. It is debian based so I installed Synaptic for easy upgrading and totally FREE software management. Customizing your own system with the software that you want is only a few clicks away.
In its current state, the ISO is about 240mb and the HDD install is about 700mb, which is about 1/4 of all the other overweight distros out there. Once you install it, you can install OpenOffice and a bunch of other stuff if you need it, but I just wanted to make a good solid functional base so you can build your own system if you want.
Featherweight is intended for novice users with "some" linux experience, intermediate users, and experienced linux users alike. It has a pretty straight forward install but you should know linux and HDD partitioning basics before trying to install it.

Enhancements:
- Ive upgraded e2fsprogs and e2fslibs as well as some other critical core files.
- I updated the apt sources and added abiword and acroread, as well as the acroread mozilla plugin, and I added kppp.
- I upgraded samba and switched the quick start konqueror and kde help buttons with a mozilla button and a konsole button.

S-Jinn is a free open-source Linux application written in C. It is designed to be used with external TIA/EIA-232 (RS-232) test, measurement, and control devices and allows for rapid prototyping, automation, and deployment. I believe you will find it easier-to-use, more intuitive, and more concise than stty or C-Kermit with regards to command-line and/or scripted RS-232 data acquisition and control.

Many popular communications packages lack command-line support. Some provide scripting languages, but S-Jinn frees you from these application-specific languages. S-Jinn allows you to manipulate your data from your favorite Unix shell and/or scripting language whether it be Bash, Python, Perl, Expect, or you name it.
Main features:
- Control RS-232 DTR and RTS lines from the command-line and optionally display DTR, RTS, CTS & DSR status
- Send control characters (i.e. the NULL character)
- Send values in hex
- Specify read length
- Display the read buffer in ASCII, hex or ASCII-over-hex.
- Program & display coded/programmable delay times
- Supports virutally all baud rates, parity, and data lengths found in standard PC UARTS
- Output Formats: Wrap text, truncate lines, add, display, or supress trailing new lines
It is not designed to be used for serial communications with modems or for use as a terminal emulator. There are a large number of free open-source applications available that are much better suited to those functions. S-Jinn is written to work with RS-232 based data acquisition equipment such as: Multimeters, A/D modules , D/A modules, digital inidicators, gauge multiplexers, temperature sensors, humidity sensors, etc.

fIcy is a command line icecast and shoutcast audio stream grabber.
fIcy is an icecast/shoutcast stream grabber suite for use under shell environment. Its goal is to cleanly and automatically rip a stream into user customisable files.
It will work with ICY compatible streams, allowing you to either to save the stream to disk or to pipe the output to a media player, or even both. fIcy, among other uses, is ideal for batch/unattended recording of radio programs and stream debugging.
The fIcy package includes:
fIcy itself, a stream separator/multiplexer,
fResync, a fast MPEG-resyncing utility,
fPls, a playlist frontend for fIcy.
Usage:
Synopsis:
fIcy [options] < server [port [path]]|url >
The main program. Takes directly a stream url and dumps the tracks on the specified file/s and standard output, depending on the settings.
fPls [options] < file|url > [fIcy options]
Playlist manager. Reads a playlist (local or remote) and manages fIcy retries/timeouts/errors, forwarding the specified flags.
fResync [options] file
MPEG resyncing utility. Re-aligns head frame headers on dumped or broken files. Usually needed for embedded hardware decoders or editing software.
Enhancements:
- Timeout support was refined.
- HTTP 301 redirects are now honored as well.
- fPls automatically forwards more flags to fIcy.
- The GNU sed requirement was removed in favor of a customizable coprocessor.
- A Mac OS X HFS+ encoding limitation work-around has been implemented.
