Multi-Cursor Window Manager 1.0

Multi-Cursor Window Manager 1.0

Multi-Cursor Window Manager is a modified Unix window manager which provides multiple cursors. more>>
Multi-Cursor Window Manager is a modified Unix window manager which provides multiple cursors. This allows multiple users to simultaneously interact with a Unix desktop environment.

Using a modified x2x client users can capture the keyboard and mouse input from their workstation and send to their personal cursor on a shared computer display. Multiple cursors are distinguished by different colors, and users can simultaneously interact with separate windows.

There are 7 uniquely colored cursors available. The current multi-cursor window manager is based on a modified version of IceWM 1.2.13

The multi-cursor window manager works by time-slicing the system cursor to provide the appearance of multiple independent cursors.

Compiling the Software:

To compile Ice Window Manager:

>cd icewm
>./configure --without-imlib
>make
>make install

Note: there is a preferences file in the icewm directory ("icewm/preferences"). Move this file to the installation preferences directory. It has some default choices that work well for multi-user interaction. Also, use the "nice" theme in IceWM.

To compile the x2x client:

>cd x2x-mp
>xmkmf
>make

Distributed Multi-User Compilation System 0.5

Distributed Multi-User Compilation System 0.5

Distributed Multi-User Compilation System is a system that allows a group of users to share a compilation farm. more>>
Distributed Multi-User Compilation System is a system that allows a group of users to share a compilation farm. Each compilation request from each user will be sent to the fastest available machine, every time.
Main features:
- Supports multiple users compiling simultaneously, and scales well to handle the new loads.
- Supports multiple operating systems in the compilation farm.
- Uses all processors of a multi-processor compilation host.
- Makes best use of compilation hosts with widely differing CPU speeds.
- Guarantees that a compilation host will not be overloaded by compilations.
- Takes into account the load on a host caused by non-compilation tasks.
- Supports the dynamic addition and removal of hosts to the compilation farm.
- Works with distcc, which need not be altered in any way.
DMUCS consists of these (main) programs:
- dmucs: the "host-server". This application reads a configuration file indicating the number of CPUs and the "power" of each potential host in the compilation farm. It then receives over the network:
- load average information from each compilation host.
- host requests from compile tasks that need remote hosts on which to run.
- information requests from monitoring applications.
- status requests from an administrator.
- dmucs maintains the database of hosts in the compilation farm, and assigns hosts to compilation tasks, giving out the best host/cpu available when the compilation task asks.
- gethost: a compilation task uses gethost get a host/cpu from the dmucs server. In general, a makefile will perform a compilation this way:
- gethost distcc gcc ...
- gethost contacts the server to get a host, which it puts into the environment variable DISTCC_HOSTS. gethost then calls the program given to it. After that program ends, gethost releases the assigned host back to the dmucs server.
- loadavg: the administrator of the compilation farm must start this application on each compilation host. loadavg sends the load average of the compilation host to the dmucs server periodically. The dmucs server will "downgrade" a compilation host if the hosts load averages goes too high.
- monitor: the administrator (or anyone) may use this program to monitor the busy-ness of the compilation farm. It displays which hosts/cpus are available in the compilation farm, which hosts/cpus have compilation tasks assigned to them, which hosts have been made administratively unavailable, and which hosts are "silent" - i.e., the dmucs server has not received a load average message from the compilation host for a while.

TinyMUSH 3.1p4

TinyMUSH 3.1p4

TinyMUSH 3 is a descendant of the TinyMUD server, and thus supports multi-user communication. more>>
TinyMUSH 3 project is a descendant of the TinyMUD server, and thus supports multi-user communication in a text-based "virtual world" format, via TCP/IP connections (presumably, but not necessarily, Internet connections).
The end result looks much like text adventures games of the mid-1980s. Though its simplest application is as a chat server, TinyMUSH 3 is intended to have the flexibility and power to support highly complex roleplaying environments.
TinyMUSH 3 is a derivative of TinyMUSH 2.0, originally created through the fusion of the TinyMUSH 2.2 and TinyMUX 1.6 code branches. The server is under active development and support.
Enhancements:
- Fixed Always clear @prog data on logout
- Fixed tools (src/tools). Add an install tag to the tools makefile.
- Update LibTools to version 1.5.22.
- Update AutoConf to version 2.59.
- Fixed function logf() in udb_* conflict with build-in function logf(), rename the function to warning().
- Remove unused port-concentrator code.
- Automated build of TinyGDBM within ./configure.
- Updated the build process a bit to keep in line with autoconf standards.

CDemu 0.8

CDemu 0.8

CDemu is a kernel module for Linux that can simulate a CD drive. more>>
CDemu is a kernel module for Linux. It is designed to simulate a CD drive + CD with just simple cue/bin files, which are pretty common in the Windows world.
You can use it to watch an SVCD or mount the data track of an bin/cue. However, for watching an SVCD, we would recommend MPlayer which can play bin/cue images directly with the patch a friend and I made for it (more under History).
Status:
- Using CDemu on multi user systems should be safe now. Any user can mount an image in an empty CDemu slot while only the user (and root) can unmount a slot that is already in use.
- Many users have reported SMP issues (varying from lock ups to very poor performance). Weve had an user send us a threading patch to avoid locking issues, but it is 2.4-centric. So, before it can be added to CVS, it needs to be generalized to support 2.4 and 2.6. Unfortunately, none of the CDemu developers have access to SMP systems so the best testing we can do involves it looks good :). CDemu-0.6 final should resolve these issues.
- Looking ahead: CDemu was first created to support bin/cue images. Ideally, wed like to be able to support Nero (.nrg), Disc Juggler (.cdi), Clone CD (.ccd), etc... Anyone with spare time and spare patches would be appreciated.
Installation:
The install is quite simple:
extract the archive (release tarball):
$ tar -jxvf cdemu- .tar.bz2
checkout the code from cvs:
$ cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/cdemu co -P cdemu
you need the source of your current running kernel.
/lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build/include needs to point at it.
build the module:
$ make
install the module and user space utilities:
$ sudo make install
now simply load the kernel module:
$ sudo modprobe cdemu
(no message should be displayed after running modprobe)
to load a bin/cue image:
$ cdemu 0 image.cue
$ mount /dev/cdemu/0 /mnt/cdrom
(some things may be different on your system, YMMV)
for more information, please review the help output:
$ cdemu -h
Enhancements:
- This version only supports kernel versions 2.6.16 and higher.
- The 2.4 series is no longer supported.
- cdemu now has file access like in a loop module.
- It should now work on amd64 and SMP systems.
- Support for .iso, .mds, .ccd, and .nrg images was added.
- Some documentation was added.
- Bugfixes were made.

palaver 0.5

palaver 0.5

palaver is a multi-user chat component for Jabber and XMPP servers. more>>
palaver is a multi-user chat component for Jabber and XMPP servers. The intention for this project is to support all features of JEP-0045 as well as the relevant extended discovery features of JEP-0128.

palaver is written in Python using the Twisted framework for Internet applications. It is licensed under the open source MIT license.

The main inspiration for writing palaver was to replace JCR mu-conference. While mu-conference has served the community well, its lack of maintenance has left many searching for a replacement.

Currently all basic multi-user chat features are supported, including some extra things like ban lists. More features are on the way, and the intention is to fully support the entire protocol.

palaver is licensed under the MIT open source license. It is free to use, modify and distribute by commercial and non-commercial users and developers.
