MT blogmail 1.3

MT blogmail 1.3

MT blogmail is a small Python script that allows you to send an email. more>>
MT blogmail is a small Python script that allows you to send an email (including an attached image) and have it posted to your MovableType blog.
You need something like Procmail to filter your mail and send messages from a
specific address to the blogmail.py script.
blogmail.py can now also poll a POP3 server and process any messages on the server
posting them to your blog for you.
Download blogmail.tar.bz2, unzip and save it somewhere convenient as blogmail.py,
make sure it is executable. (you might need to right-click and save as)
./blogmail.py --help
for all the usage information. You can also edit the script to set defaults.
The body of a message should be in the following format:
XBlogTitle: foo
XBlogPublish: [0|1]
XBlogUsername: mike
XBlogPassword: secret
XBlogid: 1
XBlogUri: http://blog.host.com/mt/mt-xmlrpc.cgi
XBlogAllowComments: [0|1]
XBlogConvertBreaks: [0|1]
XBlogKeywords: foo,baz,bar
XBlogCategories: flob,grob,blurck
All text between is posted as the body of the blog, the XBlog* fields
are parsed and sent via XML-RPC.
XBlogTitle is the only mandatory XBlog* field.
If the message is a multi-part mime message then the first text/plain section is considered to be the body of the post. the first image/* section will be taken
as an image to send to the server. Images are saved in:
images/ddMmmYY/HHMMSS_
and an image tag is added to the beginning of the post (style
WareSeeker.com tags with a float and you can have the body of the post beside and wrapping
around the bottom of the image).
Enhancements:
- o added command line options for pop3/file usage

MTX 1.3.11

MTX 1.3.11

MTX is a set of low level driver programs to control features of SCSI backup related devices such as autoloaders, tape changers. more>>
MTX is a set of low level driver programs to control features of SCSI backup related devices such as autoloaders, tape changers, media jukeboxes, and tape drives.
MTX can also report much data, including serial numbers, maximum block sizes, and TapeAlert messages that most modern tape drives implement (to tell you the exact reason why a backup or restore failed), as well as do raw SCSI WRITE and READ commands to tape drives (not important on Linux, but important on Solaris due to the fact that the Solaris tape driver supports none of the additional features of tape drives invented after 1988).
MTX is designed to be a low level driver in a larger scripted backup solution, such as Amanda. mtx is not supposed to itself be a high level interface to the SCSI devices that it controls.
Main features:
- Will deal with LARGE media libraries (over a hundred elements).
- Supports multi-drive media changers such as the Exabyte 220 dual- drive tape library.
- Supports the invert bit for optical jukeboxes that need that in order to flip their media.
- Supports the eepos bits for libraries that need this to extend/retract their import/export tray.
- Now supports import/export elements!
- Reports volume tags (bar codes) and "alternate volume tags" (whatever those are!) for those tape libraries that support them.
- Now runs under FreeBSD and at least Solaris 8.
- Now has a man page!
- The actual SCSI manipulation has been separated out into a library, so that you can create your own "C" programs that manipulate SCSI media changers directly. (Please note: this is under GPL, so any such programs will have to be under GPL also).
Version restrictions:
- You may need to do a mt offline (or equivalent for your OS) on the tape drive to eject the tape before you can issue the mtx unload command. The Exabyte EZ-17 and 220 in particular will happily sit there snapping the robot arms claws around thin air trying to grab a tape thats not there.
- The next command does not understand the invert bit (i.e., does not recognize that for optical jukeboxes, the next of side one is to unload, invert, and reload the same disk). It always advances to the next slot instead.
- For some Linux distributions, you may need to re-compile the kernel to scan SCSI LUNs in order to detect the media changer. Check /proc/scsi/scsi to see whats going on.
- If you try to unload a tape to its source slot, and said slot is full, it will instead put the tape into the first empty slot. Unfortunately the list of empty slots is not updated between commands on the command line, so if you try to unload another drive to a full source slot during the same invocation of mtx, it will try to unload to the same (no longer empty) slot and will urp with a SCSI error.
- For big tape libraries (more than a couple dozen elements) this may set a big Allocation_Size in the SCSI command block for the REQUEST_ELEMENT_STATUS command. Some operating systems may not be able to handle this. Versions of Linux earlier than 2.2.6, in particular, may fail this request due to inability to find contiguous pages of memory for the SCSI transfer (later versions of Linux sg device do scatter-gather so that this should no longer be a problem).
- VMS and Tru64 support are probably irretrievably busted.
- This program will only use the first arm of multiple-arm robots unless the robot re-maps all arms to one element ID.
- It has been reported that this program works on Solaris 7 using the sst driver, and may work on Solaris 8 using the sgen driver. sst can be gotten from the Amanda contrib directory at http://download.sourceforge.net/amanda.
Enhancements:
- This release adds the scsieject utility.
- This utility is used to perform the SCSI operations start, stop, load, unload, lock, and unlock.
- It is primarily used with a data transfer device after loading media or before unloading media.
- Loaderinfo has been enhanced to provide more information.
- The mtx command previous has been implemented and the last command has been fixed.

MusicTree (Python Scripts) 2

MusicTree (Python Scripts) 2

MusicTree is a small collection of Python scripts that helps you manage a large collection of music files. more>>
MusicTree is a small collection of Python scripts that helps you manage a large collection of music files. The project was designed to work with Unix systems (tested only on SuSE Linux), but may also work on Windows. For normal use you also need Vorbis Tools* and rsync.
The scripts help you:
- Maintain a central collection of high-quality (typically FLAC) files.
- Backup this collection on a second disk/machine.
- Generate a parallel collection of lower-quality (but much smaller) compressed (typically Ogg) files.
- Select an arbitrary subset of the compressed files (a "playlist").
- Upload the playlist to a second machine.
The scripts do not assume any particular directory layout (except that the music files live under a single root directory - that is not really a restriction since you can always use a separate directory and links to tie various directories together). Nor do you have to use a particular format (by default the scripts assume archive files are FLAC and the compressed files are Ogg encoded, but you can operate on different formats by changing the relevant commands in the configuration file).
However, the scripts do assume a that you have a basic understanding of how to use Unix. There is no installer or GUI - you run these from the command line and combine them with other command line tools (like find and xargs).
Directories and Machines
This documentation will talk about two different computers: "server" and "client". The "server" is typically a desktop machine with a large disk (or set of disks). This machine stores the high-quality "archive" of your music - all the files, with no (lossy) compression. It may also store a backup copy on a separate disk.
The "client" is typically a laptop or portable music player with a smaller capacity. Because it has restricted space you load it with a selection of (lossy) compressed files.
Separating server and client allows you to keep a safe, "perfect quality" archive where space is available, but also listen to more songs on portable devices with restricted resources.
The scripts expect these directories on the server:
Archive
This is where the complete, high-quality collection of music is stored. For example, this might be where your CD ripping software places files (I use kAudioCreator with the default settings).
Compress
A mirror of the Archive directory with lower-quality files. This is generated from the Archive directory by running the mt-encode script.
Select
A subset of the Compress directory, containging a "playlist" that will be copied to the client.
Backup
An optional second copy of the Archive (typically on a separate disk).
Installation and Configuration:
There is no automatic install. Instead, copy the files to a suitable directory and extend your PATH to include them.
For example, to put the files in the new directory ~/musictree (assuming you use the bash shell):
> cd
> tar xvfz musictree.tgz
> export PATH="$PATH:~/musictree"
Youll want to redefine PATH in your .bashrc or equivalent.
You also need to edit the example configuration file (musictree in the distribution) and (usually) copy it to ~/.musictree.
Suggestions for how to use the various scripts (eg. running mt-encode via cron) are in the following sections.
Enhancements:
- Volume normalization is now supported either via metadata, or by directly scaling the compressed files.

Nexenta OS Alpha 7

Nexenta OS Alpha 7

Nexenta is a complete GNU-based open source operating system built on top of the OpenSolaris kernel and runtime. more>>
Nexenta is a complete GNU-based open source operating system built on top of the OpenSolaris kernel and runtime.
It is a result of our inspiration and desire to build a great system based on the best existing software: SunOS kernel and GNU software. We use Debian - one of the best existing software distribution/packaging mechanisms - to glue the numerous pieces together.
At the moment, Nexenta is not part of the Debian Project. Our packages are not present in the Debian database. We are hoping that in the future this will change and our packages will get their "upstream acceptance".
Nexenta OS has been a hard and challenging work, yet every bit of it is fun! We spent many hours building the system and today it is out - itll start speaking for itself.
Nexenta is completely open source and free of any charge.
It contains Apache, MySQL, Perl/Python/PHP, Firefox, Evolution, software update manager, Synaptic package manager, Gaim Instant Messenger, abiword, administration & development utilities, editors, graphics, GNOME, interpreters, libraries and many others. All of this is running on the state-of-the-art SunOS kernel. Visit our ScreenShots gallery to see them all in action.
Theres a huge and growing multitude of software: the kernel, network services, databases, utilities, user applications. There is a conglomerate of code and hardware that is constantly changing, improving, and altogether getting more complicated. Somebody once rightly said: free software is only free if time has no value. Nexenta distribution integrates well over 2,300 packages. It installs, runs and upgrades. It delivers!
Nexenta software packages (for the most part) are originated from Ubuntu (Breezy) Linux. Ubuntu (yet another excellent distribution that uses DEB software packaging) contains more than 16,000+ software packages. One of our goals is to make them all available for use on top of our environment.
Today Nexenta runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit x86/x64 platforms. As a prove of relative maturity and a confidence booster - this web portal and the entire development environment (including Bugs and HackZone) are powered by Nexenta.
Nexenta makes its first steps into the big world. We invite you to join us and participate too! Help us make Nexenta the best operating environment in the world! Help us test Nexenta on your laptops, desktops, and servers. Help us improve our web portal, translate Nexenta into your own language, add new applications, enhance existing ones and define a set of software to be used in the future releases.
This is a complete Nexenta OS with select applications on a single CD with network and GNOME environment.
The LiveCD image can be burned into a bootable CD-R/CD-RW, and/or it can be booted in VMWare or QEMU environments. Our LiveCD contains support for 32- and 64-bit x86/x64 platforms.

tarix 1.0.2

tarix 1.0.2

tarix is a simple indexer for GNU and POSIX tar files. more>>
tarix is a simple indexer for POSIX and GNU tar files. The indexes allow fast extraction of files in the archive, especially on seekable tape devices.
The index format is simple enough to be used from a rescue disk with only mt, dd, and tar (though grep and sed would be very useful there).
Tarix is a fairly simple program and should work on any system with an ANSI C compiler that suports GNU-ish 64-bit integers ([unsigned] long long, strtoull). If you are not compiling on a known supported platform, you will probably have to modify src/portability.h to get correct defines for 64-bit file operations correct, and src/portability.c to get correct implementations of the magnetic tape setblk/seek/tell operations. If this is not sufficient, please report it as a bug!
To compile tarix, simply type make (or gmake if your make program is not GNU make) from the base directory of the source distribution. Running make install will install tarix to /usr/local by default, but this can be changed by editing the variables at the top of the Makefile.
Tarix requires the zlib headers and library.
Known Supported Platforms:
- Linux
- FreeBSD
Enhancements:
- This release has portability fixes, and an important fix for a data corruption bug that would lead to portions of a compressed archive being unusable.
