Enhancements:
- Added HTTP_PROXY Functionality
- Fixed a bug where for newer versions of GTK "about" dialogue windows were not closing
- FLAC plugin now supports FLAC 1.1.3

KungFu DVD Ripper 0.2.3

KungFu DVD Ripper 0.2.3

KungFu DVD Ripper is a GStreamer based DVD ripper. more>>
KungFu DVD Ripper is a GStreamer based DVD ripper.

KungFu creates backups of your DVDs, saving them as .oggs on your hard drive. It encodes the backup using patent-free codecs, Theora for video and Vorbis for audio.

KungFu is not designed for producing backups that fit within a certain file size (say, for burning onto CD); instead, it is designed to produce backups of consistent quality while maintaining the lowest average file size possible (for building a video library on your hard drive).

MP3 as CD verifier 2 0.1a

MP3 as CD verifier 2 0.1a

MP3 as CD verifier 2 performs lookups on CDDB servers. more>>
MP3 as CD verifier 2 performs lookups on CDDB servers in an attempt to determine whether one or multiple directories of downloaded/ripped MP3 files has correct track lengths.
Please remember that mp3ascd uses the alphabetically sorted list of .mp3 files per directory Hence it is possible that if your filenames are somehow mismatched (case?), they may be sorted incorrectly. If youre getting a mismatch that you think is wrong, run mp3ascd with default options to make sure that the enumerated list of files it finds is sorted correctly.
To install, firstly make sure the script is executable.
I copy mine into a directory in my PATH, such as /usr/bin/. It should work on a multitude of platforms, but if it does not work on yours, please let me know.
Enhancements:
- Improved readability
- Summary reports (recursive), including non-matching directories
- ID3 tag presence info shown in full display mode

MP3c 0.31

MP3c 0.31

MP3c is a special program for converting audio-cds to mp3/ogg-format. more>>
MP3c is a special program for converting audio-cds to ogg/mp3-format. It is a frontend for every grab-program and mp3-encoder. Nearly every program should be supported. MP3c has two different run-modes: An interactive mode with a menu-enviroment (based on curses-lib), which can used on textconsoles as well under X11, and a batchmode, which allows automatic encoding of cds inside shellscripts (eg at night within cronjobs).
There are two different possibilities for encoding (depends on your ripper and encoder): Non-Fly encoding, where an audio-track is first grabbed from cds and then encoded, and On-Fly encoding, where grabbing and encoding is one step. Normally you should refer to Non-Fly encoding, since your cdrom-drive hasnt to work all the time, and some encoder produces a "click" at the beginning of mp3/ogg-files if On-Fly encoding is used. The only disadvantage of Non-Fly encoding is, that there is a temp-file, which can grow up to 50-100 MB sometimes.
Information about songtitle on your cds are received with help of CDDB database. In contrast to other programs, an CDDB-entry is detailed analyzed to find every information even for sampler-cds.
Creation of filenames is userdefined. You can use pattern to constitute the appearance of your mp3-files individually. Furthermore you can decide how spaces within filenames should be handled (you can allow them, convert them to underscores "_" or just kill them).
Interessting is the possibility of shellscript creation, which contains all functionality for encoding your cds. You can start these scripts as daemon-processes or run them at night inside a cronjob.
Recommended programs for the use of MP3c are: CDparanoia as audio-cd grabber, Encoder as MP3-encoder and MP3info for creating MP3-ID-tags. For OGG use oggenc. If you need, you can download these programs here, or a complete package with these programs inside. Furthermore you can download runable binaries, but only for glibc 2.1 (linux i386) at the moment. If you like to create RPMs and/or binaries for other systems and libraries, please send these to me, so that I can put it on my page.
Enhancements:
- Switched to CDDB protocol level 5 to support detection and saving of year and genre information.

jRipper 2007.01

jRipper 2007.01

jRipper is an cd ripper and audio converter made in java. more>>
jRipper is an cd ripper and audio converter made in java.
jRipper can encode and decode Wav, Flac, MP3, Ogg, AAC(M4A) formats.
jRipper project is an frontend to cdda2wav, lame, oggenc/oggdec, flac and faac/faad programs.
jRipper can load track names for an CD from freedb.org by http or using the cdda2wav program.
It should work on all platforms that has the right java version (1.5). It has been tested on Linux and Windows XP. The installer contains static versions of cdda2wav, lame, oggenc, oggdec, flac, faac and faad for Linux and Windows.
Problems
Not all transcoding variants works. Known problems are:
AAC to Flac (linux, windows)
If jRipper cant be stopped during encoding, do kill the console program running in the background (cdda2wav, lame, ...).
Encoders
Some of the console applications have been modified to work better with jRipper. faac did get an extra quiet option which means it doesnt print anything to stderr. faad got a few extra fflush after prints to stderr. flac has some error checks canceled! It works for some degree but... So all source for the encoders are packed together for you to download. But its only the source nothing else, you have to do the compiling all by yourself.
Meta Tags
Meta tags are not converted when you do transcoding.
If an audio file can have meta tags, they will have the album and title data you see in the main window.
Installation:
- Install jRipper with clicking the jripper-install-2005.12.jar file.
- Or with the command java -jar jripper-install-2005.12.jar.
- After the install you can start jRipper with the icon on the desktop.
- If the installer failed to create an icon on the desktop or in the start menu, you can try the following ways:
- Double click jripper-2005.12.jar in the installation directory.
- Start it with java -jar jripper-2005.12.jar.
- Execute run.bat or run.sh.
To use jRipper you have to edit some settings in the setup dialog:
- Set the path to the encoder/decoder programs unless you have them already in the system path.
- Set the CD device.
- Typical values are /dev/cdrom for normal ide drives, 1,0,0 for SCSI or SCSI/IDE emulation.
- For SCSI settings run cdda2wav -scanbus as root or as a normal user in windows from a console to get a list of available drives.
- Set the root destination folder for your encoded tracks.
Enhancements:
- A minor Java 1.6 incompatibility was fixed.
- jRipper can dump a multi track CD to a single track (with an optional cue sheet).
- Two more directory layout options were added.
- All the ripper programs (for Windows) were updated.
- A few internal tweaks were made.

Witty CD Player is a cd player program that uses cdda2wav for software buffering.

I started having problems with my CD-ROM drive skipping badly on every audio track for several months. At the same time, I wanted to try my hand at GTK. So, I decided to write the "The Witty CD Player." (The name is a play on my last name The Witty CD Player uses the cdda2wav program to perform oversampling to account for the skips.
