Twisted Words library provides implementations of a handful of IM protocols, including IRC, MSNP8, OSCAR, TOC, and Jabber.

Twisted Words provides two separate high-level end-user features:

a multiprotocol instant messaging server
a multiprotocol instant messaging client

These are both still in the early stages of development and are not expected to work flawlessly in all configurations, however each is quite usable for a limited set of functionality. A Twisted Words server can be created with just a couple commands:

$ mktap words --irc-port 6667 --pb-port 8787 --passwd password_file --group somegroup
$ twistd -f words.tap

The Twisted Words client is named im and is usable as an IRC client, and possibly an AIM client (depending on the phase of the moon).

Low Level Functionality:

Twisted Words also includes:

Low-level protocol implementations of OSCAR (AIM and ICQ), IRC, MSN, TOC (AIM).
Jabber libraries.

Prototypes of chat server and client frameworks built on top of the protocols.

MIME::Words 5.420

MIME::Words 5.420

MIME::Words is a Perl module to deal with RFC-1522 encoded words. more>>
MIME::Words is a Perl module to deal with RFC-1522 encoded words.

SYNOPSIS

Before reading further, you should see MIME::Tools to make sure that you understand where this module fits into the grand scheme of things. Go on, do it now. Ill wait.

Ready? Ok...

use MIME::Words qw(:all);

### Decode the string into another string, forgetting the charsets:
$decoded = decode_mimewords(
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Keld_J=F8rn_Simonsen?= ,
);

### Split string into array of decoded [DATA,CHARSET] pairs:
@decoded = decode_mimewords(
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Keld_J=F8rn_Simonsen?= ,
);

### Encode a single unsafe word:
$encoded = encode_mimeword("xABFranxE7oisxBB");

### Encode a string, trying to find the unsafe words inside it:
$encoded = encode_mimewords("Me and xABFranxE7oisxBB in town");

Fellow Americans, you probably wont know what the hell this module is for. Europeans, Russians, et al, you probably do.

For example, heres a valid MIME header you might get:

From: =?US-ASCII?Q?Keith_Moore?= < moore@cs.utk.edu>
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Keld_J=F8rn_Simonsen?= < keld@dkuug.dk>
CC: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Andr=E9_?= Pirard < PIRARD@vm1.ulg.ac.be>
Subject: =?ISO-8859-1?B?SWYgeW91IGNhbiByZWFkIHRoaXMgeW8=?=
=?ISO-8859-2?B?dSB1bmRlcnN0YW5kIHRoZSBleGFtcGxlLg==?=
=?US-ASCII?Q?.._cool!?=

The fields basically decode to (sorry, I can only approximate the Latin characters with 7 bit sequences /o and e):

From: Keith Moore < moore@cs.utk.edu>
To: Keld J/orn Simonsen < keld@dkuug.dk>
CC: Andre Pirard < PIRARD@vm1.ulg.ac.be>
Subject: If you can read this you understand the example... cool!

PdfLicenseManager 2.2

PdfLicenseManager 2.2

PdfLicenseManager aims to be a simple tool to manage PDF licensing information. more>>
PdfLicenseManager aims to be a simple tool to manage PDF licensing information.

In particular, it is focused on inserting and managing Creative Commons licensing information in the XMP stream.

The program can both show the licensing information associated with a PDF file (which is contained in the XMP stream) or it can embed a Creative Commons License into the file. Metadata which are already present in the file are kept unaltered as much as possible.

Please note that the program, even if it works in a number of different cases, is still in its first stages, so always keep all your original files.

This program DOES NOT add any image, logo or text on the first page of the PDF file. If you want to mark your file with the insertion of the "Some Rights Reserved" logo and/or the text "This work is released under..." you need to do it by yourself (see the Creative Commons website for more details).

URI::Escape 1.35

URI::Escape 1.35

URI::Escape is a Perl module to escape and unescape unsafe characters. more>>
URI::Escape is a Perl module to escape and unescape unsafe characters.

SYNOPSIS

use URI::Escape;
$safe = uri_escape("10% is enoughn");
$verysafe = uri_escape("foo", " -377");
$str = uri_unescape($safe);

This module provides functions to escape and unescape URI strings as defined by RFC 2396 (and updated by RFC 2732). A URI consists of a restricted set of characters, denoted as uric in RFC 2396. The restricted set of characters consists of digits, letters, and a few graphic symbols chosen from those common to most of the character encodings and input facilities available to Internet users:

"A" .. "Z", "a" .. "z", "0" .. "9",
";", "/", "?", ":", "@", "&", "=", "+", "$", ",", "[", "]", # reserved
"-", "_", ".", "!", "~", "*", "", "(", ")"

In addition, any byte (octet) can be represented in a URI by an escape sequence: a triplet consisting of the character "%" followed by two hexadecimal digits. A byte can also be represented directly by a character, using the US-ASCII character for that octet (iff the character is part of uric).

Some of the uric characters are reserved for use as delimiters or as part of certain URI components. These must be escaped if they are to be treated as ordinary data. Read RFC 2396 for further details.

Scalar::Properties 0.12

Scalar::Properties 0.12

Scalar::Properties is a Perl module package that contains run-time properties on scalar variables. more>>
Scalar::Properties is a Perl module package that contains run-time properties on scalar variables.

SYNOPSIS

use Scalar::Properties;
my $val = 0->true;
if ($val && $val == 0) {
print "yup, its true alright...n";
}

my @text = (
hello world->greeting(1),
forget it,
hi there->greeting(1),
);
print grep { $_->is_greeting } @text;

my $l = hello world->length;

Scalar::Properties attempts to make Perl more object-oriented by taking an idea from Ruby: Everything you manipulate is an object, and the results of those manipulations are objects themselves.

hello world->length
(-1234)->abs
"oh my god, its full of properties"->index(g)

The first example asks a string to calculate its length. The second example asks a number to calculate its absolute value. And the third example asks a string to find the index of the letter g.

Using this module you can have run-time properties on initialized scalar variables and literal values. The word properties is used in the Perl 6 sense: out-of-band data, little sticky notes that are attached to the value. While attributes (as in Perl 5s attribute pragma, and see the Attribute::* family of modules) are handled at compile-time, properties are handled at run-time.
Internally properties are implemented by making their values into objects with overloaded operators. The actual properties are then simply hash entries.
Most properties are simply notes you attach to the value, but some may have deeper meaning. For example, the true and false properties plays a role in boolean context, as the first example of the Synopsis shows.

Properties can also be propagated between values. For details, see the EXPORTS section below. Here is an example why this might be desirable:

pass_on(approximate);
my $pi = 3->approximate(1);
my $circ = 2 * $rad * $pi;

# now $circ->approximate indicates that this value was derived
# from approximate values

Please dont use properties whose name start with an underscore; these are reserved for internal use.

You can set and query properties like this:

$var->myprop(1)

sets the property to a true value.

$var->myprop(0)

sets the property to a false value. Note that this doesnt delete the property (to do so, use the del_props method described below).

$var->is_myprop, $var->has_myprop

returns a true value if the property is set (i.e., defined and has a true value). The two alternate interfaces are provided to make querying attributes sound more natural. For example:

$foo->is_approximate;
$bar->has_history;
