OCEAN GenRap 2006 Milestone 10
OCEAN GenRap is a completely new reporting and data analysis solution. more>>
OCEAN GenRap is a completely new reporting and data analysis solution. OCEAN GenRap is created by a powerful report generating engine connected with an innovative report editor designed specially for regular users. Therefore it allows you to share the ability to modify, create reports and carry out simple business analysis with managers, salesmen, consultants and other employees having access to data, but lacking programming skills.
Reporting engine
OCEAN GenRap SDK contains a Runtime component. OCEAN GenRap Runtime component can be built in any application to provide reporting capabilities. Simple programming API, support for popular RDBMS servers and ODBC sources, various output formats (including PDF, Postscript, HTML and XLS), no charge and availability for J2SE and .NET platform are its great advantages.
Ad-hoc reporting
Integrating Runtime component into an application allows you also to communicate with the OCEAN GenRap. Its a next generation office tool with a text editor interface and advanced user friendly data access, which makes reporting and analyzing data much faster and simpler. Because there is no SQL language knowledge needed to operate OCEAN GenRap, the system can be used for ad - hoc reporting and providing at - once data analysis on a company scale.
Increased market share and audience reach
System integrated with or using OCEAN GenRap can be utilized in a wider range. Reports, analysis and printouts can not only be generated as static html pages, pdf files or physical printouts. They can also be edited. All reports based on OCEAN GenRap can be modified in both ranges - the logical layer, and the appearance.
Key benefit in this group is that the process of modification of reports can be carried out by regular users without proper programming skills. From now on, creating report is not reserved only to IT staff members with SQL language and database technologies knowledge. Every employee familiar with e.g. MS Word and MS Excel will be able to easily:
- modify the appearance of the report, including font changing, colors, moving elements across the document, arranging elements on the report,
- modify the logic of the report by one-click grouping, sorting and filtering data listing or drag-and-drop adding fields from the user friendly data schema,
- create sophisticated reports without proper knowledge of SQL language and database technologies.
Thanks to OCEAN GenRap, reporting capabilities can be made available to every user of the application, increasing effectiveness and reducing costs of report preparation.
Enhancements:
- This release added charts, support for importing RTF documents, recognition of pervasive PSQL data types in ODBC, and more.

WorldForge::Mason 0.3
Mason is a game system being developed by WorldForge. more>>
WorldForge::Mason is the second game system being developed by WorldForge. The primary focus for Mason is to enable players to build a persistent world in-game. Players will be able to manipulate items by creating new items from raw materials, attaching existing items together or splitting items into component parts.
Complicated structures such as houses can be designed on paper as a blueprint and then built with suitable building blocks and skills.
Reaching this milestone will require expanding not only our existing server and client code, but also refining the Atlas protocal that connects them.
The expansion will cover item creation (using a recipe system), construction of houses and other large structures (attaching items together), creating complex machines (combining simple machine parts), simulating organic reactions (festering wounds, adrenaline rush) with a detailed body system, editing text and other information objects in-game, and running an economy that changes with the world.
To demonstrate these techniques we will create a competitive and cooperative game centering about settling the uninhabited lands in the north-western corner of Moraf in our Dural world.
The players can play either human settlers attracted by the rumors of gold or promises of free land, or orcs, driven down to the plains from the overpopulated dens of the orc tribes of Sarnak.
Game
This section contains things related to the Mason Game in general, such as background story, game objectives, and planned features for version 1.0 of the game. It will also contain an installation guide, a players guide, and a game administrators guide. Theres also a page of links to screenshots and downloads.
If you are a potential future player and would like to know what the game will be like, or a creative writer interested in making the game interesting and fun to play, or if you want to write or translate documentation for end users, then this is the place for you.
Technology
This section contains the design of the various abstract systems that will implement all the central features of Mason. The systems include: the Item System, the Mechanical System, the Information Object System, the Body System, the Mind System, and others.
If you are a developer or game designer, interested in how all the revolutionary features supported by Mason are going to be implemented, then this section is for you.
Content
This section deals with all the general data needed for the Mason Game: item and creature descriptions and stats, maps of the Moraf area in the Dural world, and media for items and terrain. This data can be directly reused in later games.
If you are a world designer, artist, musician, or a MU* wizard who loves creating cool new items, then this section is for you.
Enhancements:
- Mason is now supported in two major 3D clients, Ember and Sear.
- An advanced terrain system has been implemented, including procedural texturing, paths, modified areas, and swimming in water.
- Building materials and resources can be gathered from the world using tools.
- Work has started on a new combat system.

Synapse M1
Synapse is an ESB engine built completely on the Web Services standards on top of Apache Axis2. more>>
Synapse application is an ESB engine built completely on the Web Services standards on top of Apache Axis2.
It is a mediation framework for Web services that allows messages flowing through, into, or out of an organization to be mediated, including aspects such as logging, service lookup, performance mediation, versioning, failover, monitoring, fault management, and tracing.
Synapse is an effort undergoing incubation at the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the Web Services PMC.
Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects.
While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF.
We have released a first Milestone M1. The release will supports:
- Simple mediation based on regex and xpath rules
- Onbound routing of messages
- Deploy simple Java mediators to perform logging, routing, message transform etc
- XSLT transformation of messages
- HTTP Proxy support
- Stages and in/out handling of messages

ToscanaJ 1.6
ToscanaJ is a Java reimplementation of the classic Formal Concept Analysis frontend Toscana. more>>
ToscanaJ is a Java reimplementation of the classic Formal Concept Analysis frontend Toscana. It was built using software development techniques like MVC architecture and XML based files to provide more flexibilty for implementation of new features.
Since ToscanaJ is a pure viewer/browser for conceptual schemas and optimized for a non-technical audience, it comes with additional tools for creating the data displayed and to offer additional, more technical analysis capabilities. The four main tools are:
ToscanaJ
The viewer/browser component
Elba
An editor for conceptual schemas on relational databases. Database-aware and offering extra tools like exporting SQL scripts.
Siena
In many ways similar to Elba (mostly thanks to shared code), Siena edits conceptual schemas that store their data in memory.
Lucca
An experimental editor that is supposed to make use out of implication analysis of SQL clauses to allow very explorative and intuitive creation of database-connected systems.
With the 1.0 release ToscanaJ and Elba have reached a feature set that allows using them in concrete applications. This is a very important milestone for the project, since we expect to get a user base and thereby a lot of feedback about our work. If you use ToscanaJ and its editors, please feel free to mail any comment to the developer mailing list, we are always happy to hear about your experiences -- good or bad.
Siena and Lucca are not as advanced, although Siena is already used in some research environments. We expect Siena to be an official part of the releases quite soon, while Lucca is very experimental and might never be an official product.
Please note that DSTC can offer you professional services and aimed development around the project and that both universities maintain research activities in this area. If you are looking for support in your commercial or research activities, please feel free to ask the developer mailing list, we will be happy to give you advice how your ideas fit into the project.

AudioLink 0.05
AudioLink is a tool that makes searching for music on your local storage media easier and faster. more>>
.AudioLink is a tool that makes searching for music on your local storage media easier and faster. Your searches can include a variety of criteria, like male artists, female artists, band, genre, etc. It is flexible, you have options of using a command line interface, multiple choices of GUIs, designing your own search criteria, etc. The possibilities are endless.
Currently, its called AudioLink, cos the first milestone would just handle audio files... subsequent versions will be capable of searching for content in HTMLs, PDFs, PSs and other file formats.
This project started with my need of searching for files on my local machine, be it music or any stored information in .txt, .html, .pdf formats. The main goal of the software is to make searching for _content_ on local file systems (or remote file systems mounted in the local namespace) easier. This differs from other search tools, which look for files, not content. You cant use traditional tools like grep to search for songs or a particular artist, for example.
If you are in search of such a tool, AudioLink is the right choice for you for you!
The project will further be improved upon to include a LAN crawler, which will sniff on NFS, SMB, FTP, among other protocols, to collect information on the files residing on other machines as well.
Enhancements:
- * code/alsearch:
1. config file isnt perl code now; simple "a = b" stuff
2. command-line args override config file options
- code/alfilldb: ouch! one more ref. to alfilldb_usage code/alfilldb: removed ref. to alfilldb_usage.txt
- code/alfilldb:

- command-line args override config file options
- code/audiolink: 1. clean up the printed statements.
- added a verbose mode
- config file isnt perl code now; simple "a = b" stuff
- default to localhost for the host field
- command-line args override config file options
- cvsignore: ignore debian/ and gui/
- Documentation/alsearch_usage.txt, Documentation/alfilldb_usage.txt: remove the _usage.txt files; we now have *_doc.html files.
- INSTALL:
- You can now use the audiolink script to create the datbase and table.
- README: better 1st para
- TODO: 1. We have a config file
- Debian packaging is done; get rpms done now

Quitomzilla 0.5.8
Quitomzilla will improve your browsers capability greatly. more>>
Quitomzilla 0.5.8 will improve your browser's capability greatly. It is designed as a Firefox addon that aims to help you quit smoking while you surf the web or wait for new emails.
Quitomzilla appears as a small icon in the application (browser or email client) status bar. When you pass the mouse pointer over this icon, a tooltip will be shown giving the information about cigarettes, money and time saved.
Major Features:
- Quitomzilla raises an alert notification every time you reach a "milestone".
- This characteristic is not available on Linux systems, since the Mozilla alert popup windows are not available for this OS. Instead, Quitomzilla shows a flashing text indicating the milestone in the status bar.
- Quitomzilla adds an option to the textboxes context menu of web browser called "Paste text".
- After clicking this option, the (configurable) information about cigarettes, money and time saved will be pasted into the textbox
- This option is also available in Thunderbird and Mozilla Mail message composition window
- If you want to change the smoking quit data, simply click the Quitomzilla icon. The configuration window will be opened.
- English, Spanish, German, Italian, French, Slovak, Russian and Dutch languages are included in Quitomzilla, being the extension displayed in the same language as the container application.
Enhancements:
- Works for Firefox 3.5

ClockingIT 0.99.2
ClockingIT is a free to use hosted application, keeping track of all your tasks and the time you spend on them. more>>
ClockingIT is a free to use hosted application, keeping track of all your tasks and the time you spend on them.
Main features:
- time tracking & reports
- milestones & due dates
- tagging & search
- timeline & activity log
- notifications & rss
- no restrictions or limits
ClockingIT was created for fun, not profit, using Ruby on Rails.
Why?
It was created to fill a gap that presented itself while working full time as a consultant. Managing several projects across multiple clients, all wanting reports on progress, and remembering what to do, for who, became a chore. Thus, ClockingIT was born after 6 days of intense learn-as-you-go Ruby on Rails. It has since received quite a few make-overs and rewrites, but the basic idea and vision remains the same.
After giving up on consulting, we kept on programming as Ruby on Rails is a fun platform, and ClockingIT had turned into a usable application others might want to use as well.
Who?
The people behind ClockingIT are Erlend and Ellen Simonsen, a married couple living in Oslo, Norway. Erlend does all the programming, and most of the feature design, while Ellen does the interface design, graphics and colors.
How?
Were keeping it free, as were hosting on our own server, out of our apartment. We already had the internet link and server in place from other projects so we have no running costs, other than our time.
Enhancements:
- New features include task dependencies, recurring tasks, the ability to drag and drop folders and files, iCalendar feeds, email reminders, integrated installation/company/project-wide forums, more auto-completion, task grouping and sorting, and user avatars.
