RLS AVON 20060130
RLS AVON is a computer-based learning system. more>>
RLS AVON project is a computer-based learning system. Students receive a lecture (screen shot) and then follow up with a test made up of multiple choice questions.
You could call RLS AVON computer aided instruction, but the program has the capacity to deliver instruction on its own. You could also call it an e-learning platform.
RLS AVON gives you freedom by supporting both Microsoft Windows and Linux. It could also be made to work under Mac OS X.
RLS AVON is free software, also called open source software, as defined by the GNU General Public License version 2 or, at your choice, later.
Lessons
RLS AVON comes with a lesson editor for educators (screen shot). Lessons may include text formatting and images. The lesson file format is based on XML and is designed to be vendor and platform neutral.
RLS AVON does not come with any lessons at this time, but it does support NOVA lessons (see below).
NOVA compatability
RLS AVON runs lessons from NOVA by Innovative Learning Systems. Only two parts (ILCMENU.EXE and GED32.EXE) were replaced.

The Xbox Linux Project aims to privide a version of GNU/Linux for the Xbox, so that it can be used as an ordinary computer.
Linux should make use of all Xbox hardware and allow to install and run software from standard i386 Linux distributions.
An Xbox with Linux can be a full desktop computer with mouse and keyboard, a web/email box connected to TV, a server or router or a node in a cluster.
You can either dual-boot or use Linux only; in the latter case, you can replace both IDE devices. And yes, you can connect the Xbox to a VGA monitor.
Main features:
- You can run Linux on your Xbox!
- You can do it without a modchip!
- You can do it without opening your Xbox!

Cooperative Linux 0.6.4
Cooperative Linux is the first working free and open source method for optimally running Linux on Microsoft Windows natively. more>>
Cooperative Linux is the first working free and open source method for optimally running Linux on Microsoft Windows natively.
More generally, Cooperative Linux (short-named coLinux) is a port of the Linux kernel that allows it to run cooperatively alongside another operating system on a single machine.
For instance, it allows one to freely run Linux on Windows 2000/XP, without using a commercial PC virtualization software such as VMware, in a way which is much more optimal than using any general purpose PC virtualization software.
In its current condition, it allows us to run the KNOPPIX Japanese Edition on Windows.

Proc::Command 0.04
Proc::Command is a backtick that does not use the shell for Perl under Windows. more>>
Proc::Command is a backtick that does not use the shell for Perl under Windows.
SYNOPSIS
use Proc::Command
@reponse = Proc::Command->command($command)
@reponse = Proc::Command->command($command, $trys)
@reponse = Proc::Command->command($command, $trys, $sleep)
use Proc::Command qw(command)
@reponse = command($command)
@reponse = command($command, $trys)
@reponse = command($command, $trys, $sleep)
Some Perls under Microsoft windows suffers disabilities over Unix Perls. One particular disability is a backtick without the console. Altough the Microsoft console, may be started without a window (start command with /b option or spawn program call), the Perl system command on windows usually creates a window. Creating a window causes immense user interface problem since it will randomly pop-up and take focus over the current window, erasing current entries into that window. Solutions such as "Proc::SafePipe" do not run on Perls for Window.
This module provides an answer by using the "open" command with a pipe to provide a backtick without a console that will run under Perls on Microsoft Windows.

aBridge project is a multiplayer online cross-platform bridge game.
It allows you to play bridge online with other real people.
It is currently available for UNIX (including linux), Microsoft Windows and MacOS X.
On all platforms, aBridge supports speech synthesis, allowing you to choose to listen to the bids and chat conversation rather than simply gazing at the screen waiting for someone to play.
aBridge also has some rudimentary bots, for when other players arent online, but their AI is pretty pathetic, and they are in need of a complete rewrite.
Enhancements:
- Complete rewrite of card-displaying code. Cards are now scalable.
- Remember size of game window.
- Use flite instead of festival on sid, since speech-tools is broken on sid at the moment.

LibMSWrite 0.9
LibMSWrite is a free, platform-independent C++ filter library that can read and write the Microsoft Write 3.0/3.1 document. more>>
LibMSWrite is a free, platform-independent C++ filter library that can read and write the Microsoft Write 3.0/3.1 document format. LibMSWrite library supports what is believed to be the complete featureset of the Write file format.
It is fully portable across 32-bit and 64-bit architectures and has no dependencies other than C++. Both Linux, Windows and any other system that supports C++ is supported (STL is not required).
It employs XML-based code generation techniques to simplify the process of manipulating binary Write data structures, in a portable manner.
What can LibMSWrite do for me?
LibMSWrite provides a comprehensive API that serves as a significant abstraction layer for the Microsoft Write file format. Its primary use is in the "backend" of Write Import and Export filters for office suites. LibMSWrite simplifies the creation of such filters because developers no longer need to know the innards of the Write file format.
LibMSWrite forms the basis of the Write filters for KWord >= 1. (http://www.koffice.org), the word processor that complements the K Desktop Environment (http://www.kde.org), which is the most popular free GUI for Unix-based systems (e.g. Linux, FreeBSD).
The LibMSWrite Project does not just provide a library. It also includes:
- mswrite2html: program which converts Write files to XHTML
- list.h: alternative linked list implementation to STL
- xmlparser.cpp: quick & dirty XML parser
- wmf.cpp: WMF parser and BMP-to-WMF converter
Microsoft Write ?
Microsoft Write was the word processor included in Microsoft Windows 3.x (now more than a decade old). With the notable exception of tables, it supported all of the features needed for writing simple documents (essays, book reviews, reports etc.). The Microsoft Write format is almost completely unrelated to the, now (2003) de-facto, Microsoft Word format.
Microsoft Write files usually have the extension .WRI. Although, there are some .WRI files that are actually RTFs.
LibMSWrite was written because there was a need to guarantee that Write documents could continue to be read in the face of diminishing compatibility for old, binary document file formats. For instance, this is important if you have 7 years worth of work in the format...
The LibMSWrite project is not endorsed by Microsoft.

<<lessThe Operator contains an extensive set of Open Source network security tools that can be used for monitoring and discovering networks.
This virtually can turn any PC into a network security pen-testing device without having to install any software. Operator also contains a set of computer forensic and data recovery tools that can be used to assist you in data retrieval on the local system.
Starting with the 3.3 version of Operator, we have started completely from scratch by installing a basic Debian installation then adding the KNOPPIX functionality afterwards. This allowed us to have more control and understanding of what is on the CD.

SMBNetFS 0.3.10
SMBNetFS is a user-space filesystem for Linux. more>>
SMBNetFS is a Linux filesystem witch allows you to use samba and microsoft network in the same manner as the network neighborhood in Microsoft Windows.
Main features:
- you can use Samba/Microsoft network as a regular unix filesystem
- workgroup/computer/share entries are dynamically created
- windows domain supported
- user defined workgroup/link/hosts are supported
- national character supported
- you can access any computer in the world by "cd mountpoint/ip-addr" command, where "ip-addr" is the IP address of the desired computer. Do not warry that there is no file with such name :-)
- command "cd mountpoint/username:password@computer_or_ip" allows you to access "computer_or_ip" as user "username" with password "password" (this is insecure, but usefull)
- the program is multithreaded, so simultaneous access to a file/share is possible
- config file is reloaded automatically if it was changed
- sources
Enhancements:
- A bug in Samba/locale conversion that appeared in 0.3.7 has been fixed.
