Free memo software for linux

Memo is a small utility which you can use to store appointments and TODO items. Memo displays the next few entries in a small window, and can also be instructed to bring up alert windows at set times.

If you have a D-BUS notification service available then it will use that to display alerts. Otherwise, it will use a built-in dialog box.

Timecardimport allows time sheet data to be imported from GnoTime or Palm Timesheet into SQL-Ledger as time cards.

Installation:

Extract Timecardimport.pm and tcimport.pl into the directory of your choice. Edit the variables in tcimport.pl to reflect your database and SQL-Ledger settings. The database user specified must have SELECT rights to customer, employee, parts and projects tables and INSERT rights to the jcitems table.

Usage:

The supplied tcimport.pl script is a sample front-end that calls on the Timecardimport.pm module to do the actual processing of the file. It should be fairly trivial to write additional front ends (eg. Web, gtk) based on the example of tcimport.pl, and such front ends may be included in later releases of this software. To use tcimport.pl, simply run the script from the command line with the file to import as the only argument.

GnoTime must be configured so that customer and project names are nested. That is, the first level of projects defined in GnoTime are the same as the customer names in SQL-Ledger, and the second level of projects are the projects for that customer as defined in SQL-Ledger. The sqltognotime.pl script supplied can create a template gnotime-data.xml file from your SQL-Ledger customers and projects for use with GnoTime.

When importing GnoTime timelines, the tag for any imported lines will be set to PAID, and the line will be ignored on any subsequent run.

If using Palm Timesheet, enter either the project names, or the customer name (in which case the first project of that customer in SQL-Ledger will be used). Since the import of customer and/or project names cannot be automated for Palm Timesheet like it can for GnoTime, the Timecardimport.pm module does not require an exact match between the name used in Palm Timesheet and that used in SQL-Ledger, but you must use an unambiguous substring in order to avoid mis-matches.

Palm Timesheet records can be exported in a number of formats. This script requires the "clockings" format to be used. There is no conduit to sync these records to your PC, but they can be exported from within Timesheet to an SD Card, or as a Memo which can be synchronised with the ordinary Memo conduit. Either of these methods will work fine with this script.

Other packages exist that provide additional conduits, most notably gnome-pilot-conduits, and the Evolution mail/calendar/memo PIM application suite.

XBase is a Perl module for reading and writing the dbf files.

This module can read and write XBase database files, known as dbf in dBase and FoxPro world. It also reads memo fields from the dbt and fpt files, if needed. An alpha code of reading index support for ndx, ntx, mdx, idx and cdx is available for testing -- see the DBD::Index(3) man page. Module XBase provides simple native interface to XBase files. For DBI compliant database access, see the DBD::XBase and DBI modules and their man pages.
The following methods are supported by XBase module:

General methods

new

Creates the XBase object, loads the info about the table form the dbf file. The first parameter should be the name of existing dbf file (table, in fact) to read. A suffix .dbf will be appended if needed. This method creates and initializes new object, will also check for memo file, if needed.

The parameters can also be specified in the form of hash: value of name is then the name of the table, other flags supported are:

memofile specifies non standard name for the associated memo file. By default its the name of the dbf file, with extension dbt or fpt.

ignorememo ignore memo file at all. This is usefull if youve lost the dbt file and you do not need it. Default is false.

memosep separator of memo records in the dBase III dbt files. The standard says it should be "x1ax1a". There are however implamentations that only put in one "x1a". XBase.pm tries to guess which is valid for your dbt but if it fails, you can tell it yourself.

nolongchars prevents XBase to treat the decimal value of character fields as high byte of the length -- there are some broken products around producing character fields with decimal values set.

recompute_lastrecno forces XBase.pm to disbelieve the information about the number of records in the header of the dbf file and recompute the number of records. Use this only if you know that some other software of yours produces incorrect headers.

close

Closes the object/file, no arguments.

create

Creates new database file on disk and initializes it with 0 records. A dbt (memo) file will be also created if the table contains some memo fields. Parameters to create are passed as hash.

You can call this method as method of another XBase object and then you only need to pass name value of the hash; the structure (fields) of the new file will be the same as of the original object.

If you call create using class name (XBase), you have to (besides name) also specify another four values, each being a reference to list: field_names, field_types, field_lengths and field_decimals. The field types are specified by one letter strings (C, N, L, D, ...). If you set some value as undefined, create will make it into some reasonable default.

Other attributes are memofile for non standard memo file location, codepage to set the codepage flag in the dbf header (it does not affect how XBase.pm reads or writes the data though, just to make FoxPro happy), and version to force different version of the dbt (dbt) file. The default is the version of the object from which you create the new one, or 3 if you call this as class method (XBase->create).

The new file mustnt exist yet -- XBase will not allow you to overwrite existing table. Use drop (or unlink) to delete it first.

drop

This method closes the table and deletes it on disk (including associated memo file, if there is any).

last_record

Returns number of the last record in the file. The lines deleted but present in the file are included in this number.

last_field

Returns number of the last field in the file, number of fields minus 1.

field_names, field_types, field_lengths, field_decimals

Return list of field names and so on for the dbf file.

field_type, field_length, field_decimal

For a field name, returns the appropriate value. Returns undef if the field doesnt exist in the table.

OMake is a build system with a similar style and syntax to GNU make but with many additional features, including support for large projects spanning multiple directories, default configuration files simplifying the standard compilation tasks, support for commands that produce several targets at once, fast, reliable, automated, scriptable dependency analysis using MD5 digests, portability, and built-in functions that provide the most common features of programs like grep, sed, and awk. OMake also provides active filesystem monitoring that restarts builds automatically when source files are modified. A companion command interpreter that can be used interactively is included.

Enhancements:
- This release features significant language improvements.
- The .STATIC and .MEMO rules were added, allowing the definition of lazy computations and lazy memoization maps.
- Export sections were added, making it much easier to manage variable scoping.
- It is now possible to reference fields in sub-objects directly.
- Many new built-in and library functions were added.
- There were a number of significant bugfixes, including a correction of Ctrl-C handling on Windows (which now correctly interrupts OMake).

XNotesPlus project is a full-featured personal information manager.
It includes an Address Manager, Todo Manager, Calendar Manager, and an extensive notes system, with features such as email, searching text, spell checking text, printing, audio/visual alarms, date and calendar inserts, categorization by colored projects, etc.
It also interfaces with PalmOS-based handheld devices, allowing backups and syncing of backups, syncing XNotes to the Pilot and downloading Pilot Memos into XNotes, syncing between the XNotesPlus Address Manager, Todo Manager, and Calendar Manager. Install, fetch, delete, and list options are also available for managing your Pilot.
