Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit 0.6

Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit 0.6

Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit aims at supporting the development of leading-edge medical imaging software. more>>
Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit (MITK) is currently under active development, and aims at supporting the development of leading-edge medical imaging software with a high degree of interaction. It combines vtk, itk and the pic-based-libraries of the Div.
Main features:
- multiple, consistent views on the same data. For example, when you have three orthogonal 2D-views and a 3D view and data consisting of a green surface, the surface will be visible and green in all views (as contour lines in 2D, as a surface in 3D), and when you move the surface, it will move in all views. When you try to realize this with basic vtk, you will need to coordinate the position/orientation/color/... of all the views somewhere in your program - exactly this can mitk do for you.
- interactions that create and/or modify data (not only actors as in basic vtk)
- complex interactions with multiple states, e.g., for interaction with active contours
- undo/redo of interactions
- organization of data objects in a tree at run-time, e.g., to represent logical dependencies (e.g., a heart cavity is a part of the heart) or to control the rendering process
- additional properties of arbitrary type can be assigned to data objects contained in the data tree
- visualization and interaction with 3D+t data (basic vtk can handle only 3D data and itk is not for visualization and interaction)
- although mitk is mainly a toolkit and not an application, it offers some support on the application-level, e.g, for structured combination of modules (so-called functionalities), e.g., for combining and switching between one functionality for segmentation and another for registration.
Enhancements:
- New functionalities: IsoSurface, ViewInitialization and Measurement.
- Support for ITK 2.4-2.8, VTK 4.4 and 5.0.
- Lots of bugfixes and improvements, e.g. interaction for rotatable slices.

openDICOM.NET 0.1.1

openDICOM.NET 0.1.1

openDICOM.NET software implements a new approach towards DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) libraries. more>>
openDICOM.NET software implements a new approach towards DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) libraries. DICOM is a worldwide standard in Medical IT and is provided by the National Electrical Manufacturers Assocation (NEMA). This standard specifies the way medical images and meta data like study or patient related data is stored and communicated over different digital medias. Thus, DICOM is a binary protocol and data format.

The openDICOM# Class Libary, main part of the openDICOM.NET project, provides an API to DICOM in C# for Mono and the .NET Framework. It is a completely new implementation of DICOM. In contrast to other similar libraries the intention of this implementation is to provide a clean classification with support of unidirectional DICOM data streaming. Another implemented goal is the support of DICOM as XML. This is not standard conform but very use- and powerful within software development, storage and manipulation. Currently, full read support of DICOM output stream and full write support to XML is supposed to be provided. The entire DICOM content can be accessed as sequence or as tree of class instances. Latter is the default representation of DICOM content by the library.

The openDICOM.NET Utils are a collection of console tools for working with the needed data dictionaries in different data formats (binary and textual), query of ACR-NEMA (prior DICOM standard) and DICOM files and transcoding them into image formats like JPEG and XML files. These utils are written in C# for Mono and the .NET Framework and are using the openDICOM# API for processing.

Last but not least, the openDICOM.NET Navigator recapitulates the openDICOM.NET Utils in form of a GTK# GUI. It provides different views with focus on DICOM data sets and visualization. Connectivity to GIMP is also given for image processing purpose as well as the possibility to run through multi-frame images like a movie.

Diagnotep 2007.1

Diagnotep 2007.1

Diagnotep is an affliction search engine to help diagnose medical problems. more>>
Diagnotep is an affliction search engine to help diagnose medical problems. Diagnotep project works in the mozilla browser, it might not work properly in other browsers. This is version 2007.1. To run the entire engine on your machine for a faster search, unzip the health archive into a folder and then open the file "health_diagnotep.html" with a browser.

The program is under the GPL license which basically welcomes you to copy or modify this and allows anyone else to copy or modify your version if you make it public. The text is under the GNU Free Documentation License which allows you to copy or modify this and allows anyone else to copy or modify your version if you make it public.

The program searches among the symptoms of a medical database, so the results will only be medical afflictions. There are about 1,800 afflictions in the database, so no matter how deep the search depth and how many symptoms are entered, there will be at most about 1,800 results. The links from the results page point to affliction pages which are either public domain government pages or GNU Free Documentation License pages.

The greatest advantage of the diagnotep search engine is that it searches only medical affliction pages, so the results are not cluttered with pages which are not about health. Another advantage is that the program searches only the symptom part of the affliction pages, so the results are not cluttered with unrelated medical pages. The greatest disadvantage of diagnotep is that it searches a medical database which is large, but incomplete; it does not include all the medical pages on the internet. Another disadvantage is that diagnotep has a size of about 200 kilobytes and so takes about 30 seconds to load on a 56k dialup modem.

Diagnotep development is ongoing and in the future it is hoped that there will be expanded treatment sections for common afflictions, that more afflictions will be added to the medical database and that the 200 kB size of the diagnotep script will be reduced for faster loading.

E-Gantt 0.5.2

E-Gantt 0.5.2

E-Gantt is an open source gantt chart library in Java / Swing which is intended for usage in logistics and scheduling app. more>>
E-Gantt is an open source gantt chart library in Java and Swing which is intended for usage in logistics and scheduling applications.
E-Gantt has been in-active for over a year, but has recently seen a lot of work done which includes a simplified interface and documentation in the form or tutorials to make the project easier to use.
Despite this E-Gantt has been succesfully implemented in many large open source projects and commercial projects with-in the following industries.
- Scheduling Research
- Medical Research
- US Military Defense Projects
- Network Administration tools
How E-Gantt works
Rather than develop a brand-new table component for Swing or extend the table component making it propreitry and difficult to work with. E-Gantt heavily utlilizes the existing JTable framework with modifying it, which serves to allow companies using E-Gantt the ability to use there own JTable extensions with E-Gantt with no futher work.
E-Gantt does this by mapping the DefaultCellRender, DefaultCellEditor of the table for its own column class. The Gantt chart will be rendered with-in each column of the table.
The value returned by the getValueAt of the table model is required to be of a DrawingState which is the value for each column.
Drawing State
The DrawingState is a value which is used for the rendering the gantt drawing which is returned by the methd call tableModel.getValueAt(row, column).
The DrawingState contains a lot of information about the actual drawing including:
- Location of the Top and Bottom of the Entry
- A reference key to indicate how the Entry should be drawn
- A reference key to indicate how the Entry should be coloured
For getting started this has been made easier by a helper class GanttEntryHelper. GanttEntryHelper can be called with as little information as a start time and a finish time this can be done as static data or called dynamically with-in the actual table model.
Enhancements:
- The drawing tool was fixed to determine the width of an entry.
- The GlassPane / Acetate layer for tools was introduced.
- A new demo for modifiying drawing context was included.
- A new example of text on diagrams (a layering example) was added.
- A new example of multi-entry was added to the examples.

Valgrind 3.2.3

Valgrind 3.2.3

Valgrind is an award-winning suite of tools for debugging and profiling Linux programs. more>>
Valgrind is an award-winning suite of tools for debugging and profiling Linux programs. With the tools that come with Valgrind, you can automatically detect many memory management and threading bugs, avoiding hours of frustrating bug-hunting, making your programs more stable. You can also perform detailed profiling, to speed up and reduce memory use of your programs.
Valgrind distribution currently includes three tools: a memory error detectors, a cache (time) profiler and a heap (space) profiler.
Valgrind is Open Source / Free Software, and is freely available under the GNU General Public License.
Main features:
- Valgrind will save you hours of debugging time. With Valgrind tools you can automatically detect many memory management and threading bugs. This gives you confidence that your programs are free of many common bugs, some of which would take hours to find manually, or never be found at all. You can find and eliminate bugs before they become a problem.
- Valgrind can help you speed up your programs. With Valgrind tools you can also perform very detailed profiling to help speed up your programs.
- Valgrind is free. Free-as-in-speech: you can download it, read the source code, make modifications, and pass them on, all within the limits of the GNU GPL. And free-as-in-beer: we arent charging for it.
- Valgrind runs on x86/Linux, AMD64/Linux and PPC32/Linux, several of the most popular platforms in use. Valgrind works with all the major Linux distributions, including Red Hat, SuSE, Debian, Gentoo, Slackware, Mandrake, etc.
- Valgrind is easy to use. Valgrind uses dynamic binary translation, so you dont need to modify, recompile or relink your applications. Just prefix your command line with valgrind and everything works.
- Valgrind is not a toy. Valgrind is first and foremost a debugging and profiling system for large, complex programs. We have had feedback from users working on projects with up to 25 million lines of code. It has been used on projects of all sizes, from single-user personal projects, to projects with hundreds of programmers.
- Valgrind is suitable for any type of software. Valgrind has been used on almost every kind of software imaginable: desktop applications, libraries, databases, games, web browsers, network servers, distributed control systems, virtual reality frameworks, transaction servers, compilers, interpreters, virtual machines, telecom applications, embedded software, medical imaging, scientific programming, signal processing, video/audio programs, NASA Mars lander vision and rover navigation systems, business intelligence software, financial/banking software, operating system daemons, etc, etc. See a list of projects using Valgrind.
- Valgrind is widely used. Valgrind has been used by thousands of programmers across the world. We have received feedback from users in over 25 countries, including: Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, USA, Australia, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and Israel.
- Valgrind works with programs written in any language. Because Valgrind works directly with program binaries, it works with programs written in any programming language, be they compiled, just-in-time compiled, or interpreted. The Valgrind tools are largely aimed at programs written in C and C++, because programs written in these languages tend to have the most bugs! But it can, for example, be used to debug and profile systems written in a mixture of languages. Valgrind has been used on programs written partly or entirely in C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, assembly code, Fortran, Ada, and many others.
- Valgrind debugs and profiles your entire program. Unlike tools that require a recompilation step, Valgrind gives you total debugging and profiling coverage of every instruction executed by your program, even within system libraries. You can even use Valgrind on programs for which you dont have the source code.
- Valgrind can be used with other tools. Valgrind can start GDB and attach it to your program at the point(s) where errors are detected, so that you can poke around and figure out what was going on at the time.
- Valgrind is extensible. Valgrind consists of the Valgrind core, which provides a synthetic software CPU, and Valgrind tools, which plug into the core, and instrument and analyse the running program. Anyone can write powerful new tools that add arbitrary instrumentation to programs. This is much easier than writing such tools from scratch. This makes Valgrind ideal for experimenting with new kinds of debuggers, profilers, and similar tools.
- Valgrind is actively maintained. The Valgrind developers are constantly working to fix bugs, improve Valgrind, and ensure it works as new Linux distributions and libraries come out. There are also mailing lists you can subscribe to, and contact if youre having problems.
- So whats the catch? The main one is that programs run significantly more slowly under Valgrind. Depending on which tool you use, the slowdown factor can range from 5--100. This slowdown is similar to that of similar debugging and profiling tools. But since you dont have to use Valgrind all the time, this usually isnt too much of a problem. The hours youll save debugging will more than make up for it.
Enhancements:
- 3.2.3 is almost identical to 3.2.2, but fixes a regression that unfortunately crept into 3.2.2. The regression causes an assertion failure in Valgrind when running certain obscure SSE code fragments on x86-linux and amd64-linux. Please do not use (or package) 3.2.2; instead use 3.2.3.
