nugu is a biff-like utility which scans either an IMAP4 or POP3 mail server account. more>>
nugu is a biff-like utility which scans either an IMAP4 or POP3 mail server account and relays an abbreviated copy of the unread email to the users cell phone.
The user can constrain which messages get relayed by defining a query in a configuration file. nugu is meant to be run as a cron job.
Enhancements:
- Support for --notruncate and --abbreviate command line options was added.
- --notruncate refrains from truncating a message to the 160 character SMS limit.
- --abbreviate attempts to provide "text-readable" compression by simply ommitting vowels in words that are longer than 4 characters.

Marble 0.3

Marble 0.3

Marble is an early beta preview of the Marble Widget application which is targeted for KDE 4. more>>
Marble is an early beta preview of the Marble Widget application which is targeted for KDE 4.
You need to install both packages: "marble" and "marble-data" to run Marble.
Marble is a generic geographical map widget that is meant to be used by KDE4 applications. It shows the earth as a sphere but doesnt make use of any hardware acceleration (No OpenGL). So although it might look similar to professional applications like Google Earth or Nasa World Wind its rather meant to be a small light weight multi purpose widget. To improve speed I decided to compile the Kubuntu packages with SSE support (-msse).
Main features:
- Marble uses a minimal free dataset that can be used offline. Currently the total amount of data that is meant to be shipped is about 5 MB.
- Marble doesnt use OpenGL or 3D hardware acceleration. It just uses Arthur as a painting backend. Extending it later on to support OpenGL as well shouldnt be hard however I dont consider that the primary focus. Depending on your hardware and the maps being displayed framerate is approximately 5-20 fps.
- Marble uses vector as well as bitmap data: Currently it uses the very old MWDB II data combined with ETOPO 2, which I will update to current SRTM soon.
- Marble displays the world map as a 3D sphere, because its more fun to use and less subject to distortion (So with regard to that its just like NASA WorldWind, Earth3D and Google Earth)
- Marble should start up almost instantly. Currently it "cold" starts fully within 2-5 seconds. On each subsequent start it takes about one second.
- Uses KML-Import to display places (Google Earths open format to store placemarks)
- Cities Down to 12000 inhabitants that you can click on using the mouse. Highest Mountains of each continent. Automatic Placemark label placement.
- Different Map Themes, Layers
- Dynamic Coordinate Grid
- Measure Tool
- Basic Wikipedia integration

- Create, delete and alter new and existing tables
- Create and delete database views
- Run quaries by either direct SQL code or by a dialog
- Export your tables and views to a SQL dump file
Known Issues (and missing features)
- Table field comments are not stored.
- The only way to alter a table is to rename it. Anything other requires re-creating the table.
- There are no means to alter a view.

Smutty project is a MVC PHP framework.

Smutty is yet another PHP MVC based framework. Ive tried a few that are out there and none really satisfied exactly what I was expecting.

Smutty is meant to be as simple as possible, not bogging you down with understanding the philosophy of the framework, just letting you get on with things.

The name smutty comes from the fact that one of the bases for this project is the completely wonderful smarty templating engine.

CTBClient 0.1

CTBClient 0.1

CTBClient is a mobile client for the CTB. more>>
CTBClient is a mobile client for the CTB. The main objective of CTBClient is to allow registering expenses and other financial events in the road, and later uploading them to the mother system.
It puts in use a set of exciting technologies: Bluetooth, Python SQL DBI, serialization (marshaling) of objects, GTK+, Python for Series 60 Nokia cell phones (known as S60), perhaps PyObjc in future Mac OS X versions etc. CTBClient is also meant to be a guinea pig for portable Python development.
CTBClient is a project sponsored by INdT - Instituto Nokia de Tecnologia (Nokia Institute of Technology), where I work and have the environment and time to make such experiments.
Functional clients are:
- GTK+ Linux/local (no Bluetooth, for quick tests);
- GTK+ Linux Bluetooth
- Symbian/S60 cell phone
- GTK+/Hildon Linux (Maemo platform, like Nokia 770 tablets)
Functional servers:
- Linux/local (for testing)
- Linux/Bluetooth

Kurrently 0.2

Kurrently 0.2

Kurrently is a simple BASH script outputs the currently playing artist and track to ~/.playing_now. more>>
Kurrently is a simple BASH script outputs the currently playing artist and track to ~/.playing_now in this format: Author Name - "Track Name".

Kurrently is meant to be easily modified to direct whatever output you want to whatever location you want.

Why?

Because there are several scripts that output track information to a web page, but none that simply dump it to a text file for easy parsing.

Why would I want that?

I dont know. Maybe you use a blogging client that can read plain text files, and you want it to show others what youre listening to automatically? Maybe youd like to track the order of songs youve been listening to? Maybe youd like to display the contents of this file in a web page you already have set up somewhere? Do with it as you see fit.

Can I make changes?

Certainly. Its the beauty of the GPL. In fact, I recommend it. This script is very simplistic in what it does and how it does it. If youd like to make it dance to a different tune, feel free!

Contact Conductance Estimator (CoCoE) is a program that estimates the conductance (or resistance) between two surfaces. more>>
Contact Conductance Estimator (CoCoE) is a program that estimates the conductance (or resistance) between two surfaces in contact.
It is meant to be used by designers and analysts of physical systems where heat transfer by means of contact is of importance.
CoCoE is written in Perl, and uses a self-contained SQLite database and Tk for the user interface.
Enhancements:
- Many new entries in the database.
- Many fixes to existing entries in the database (correlations are now much more accurate).
- The CoCoE window now has a status bar that displays help messages.
- CoCoE will now ask for contact pressure input method (Direct or via Load and Area) instead of the older way.
- It is now possible to input as many contact pressures as wanted, instead of having to start over every time you want to try a new value.

Gnome BitTorrent Downloader is not meant to be an entire front-end, just a program that pops up when you "execute" the torrent files.

Since BitTorrent is written in Python, I figured Id write this program in Python too; saves a lot of trouble as I already knew Python relatively well.

Simple IPTABLES firewall 0.6

Simple IPTABLES firewall 0.6

Simple IPTABLES firewall is a very simple firewall constructed with basic iptables commands. more>>
Simple IPTABLES firewall is a very simple firewall constructed with basic iptables commands. It is meant to be a guideline only, since any firewall is specific to the services the host offers, and the services the administrator permits local users to use.

NOTE: As is, the script only allows ident (port 113) requests, ftp only works in PASV mode from the client side, IRC DCC sends and chats initiated from behind the firewall are blocked, but incoming DCC requests work (hint: to DCC chat from behind this firewall, use /ctcp nick chat). ICQ is also broken in a few ways, although you can send messages.

This is a self contained script, and it assumes kernel support, and modules.
