archmbox 4.9.0
archmbox is an email archiver. more>>
Archmbox is a simple email archiver written in perl; it parses one or more mailboxes, selects some or all messages and then performs specific actions on the selected messages.
At this time archmbox supports mbox and mbx mailbox formats.
Four different modes are available:
- list mode, which is useful to list all selected messages before archmbox performs the real operations (archiving or deleting)
- kill mode, if messages should be deleted from the mailbox(es) rather than archived
- archive mode, to archive the selected messages in a different mailbox
- copy mode, to copy the selected messages from the source mailbox
Messages selection is based upon a date criteria; an absolute date or a days offset can be specified. It is also possible to refine the selection using regular expressions on the header fields of the message.
All archived messages are stored in a new mailbox with the same name of the original one plus .archived as extension (this is the default, but can be changed); the archive mailbox can be saved in gz or bz2 compressed format as well.
Archmbox was successfully tested on the following platforms:
- Linux
- FreeBSD
- NetBSD
- OpenBSD
- MacOS X
- OpenDarwin
- Sun Solaris
A little hack is needed for Sun Solaris; please read here or the INSTALL file included with the distribution for further details.

yahoo2mbox 0.23
yahoo2mbox is a small Perl script which retrieves all messages from a mailing list archive at Yahoo! Groups. more>>
yahoo2mbox is a small Perl script which retrieves all messages from a mailing list archive at Yahoo! Groups (there is a missing copyright sign somewhere here probably). yahoo2mbox stores them into a local file in MBOX which is recognized by all Unix mail readers and good many of other ones.
If you dont know what Yahoo! Groups are, you probably dont need this program. But if you want to search through the existing archive using your favourite MUA instead of Yahoo interface as I did you might like it.
Other interesting features include support for localized and age-restricted Yahoo groups. Unfortunately, automatic address unmangling doesnt work any more (as of December 2003 and probably before) because of a change in Yahoo address presentation algorithm.

Mailbox Strainer 0.91
Mailbox Strainer is a Superkaramba widget that examines an arbitrary number of IMAP mailboxes. more>>
Mailbox Strainer is a Superkaramba widget that examines an arbitrary number of IMAP mailboxes, POP3 mailboxes and local mail folders for new messages. For the latest new messages, the content of a specified header is displayed on the screen. When new messages arrive, Mailbox Strainer emits a notification via KNotify.
You may have serveral instances running such that each one checks its own collection of mailboxes. SpamAssassin may be invoked to detect spam, or message headers modified by external spam checkers can be evaluated. It is also possible to make SpamAssassin learn from specified IMAP or local folders.
Configuration can be done through a graphical interface or manually via a configuration file (an annotated configuration file is supplied).
Mailbox Strainer is written in Perl. Depending on the features you want to use, a number of Perl modules must be installed. In particular, PerlQt will be needed for the configuration dialog. All modules can be found at http://www.cpan.org , consider using the CPAN shell (perl -MCPAN -e shell) for this will automatically resolve dependencies. To find out which modules are missing on your system, invoke module-test.pl . (Hopefully I didnt forget any of them, it has become quite a number.)
The local mail capabilities are those of the Email::Folder::* modules, so they should be able to handle mbox and maildir. Currently, using the spam detection with local mbox folders is _strongly_ discouraged! It is likely to destroy your Emails, see http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.pep/68 for the reason. (A possible workaround is presented in http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.pep/72.) So spam checking is currently disabled for local mailboxes. You can enable it by changing lines 975, 998 and 1081 of perl/mailbox-strainer.pl. Remove "0 &&" from each of those lines.
A few words about password storage: The configuration dialog stores encrypted passwords (of length at least 8) in the configuration file. This is meant as a protection against accidentally displaying the configuration file, but nothing else. Consider this as a parody on proper encryption, even the secret key can be found in the perl scripts.

- converting a single mailbox into corresponding maildir
- converting multiple mailboxes in a directory into corresponding maildirs
- recursive operation on a given directory to convert the complete mail storage of one user
- replaces all occurrences of dots (.) in a mailbox name by underscores (_)
- is able to handle spaces in mailbox names
- is able to handle leading/trailing spaces in mailbox names
- converts mbox files in DOS format (CRLF) to Unix file format
- can strip an extension (e.g. ".mbx") from a mailbox name prior to converting
- uses the Content-Length: header iof told to
- removal of dummy message that a couple of IMAP servers (e.g. UW-IMAPD) put at the beginning of a mailbox
- removal of the "From " line that starts every mail in a mailbox
- removal of the special escape character (>) that the MTA puts in front of lines starting with "From " other than the first line
- setting the file date of a converted message according to the date found in the "From " line of the original mail
- setting the flags F,R,S,T (flagged, replied, seen, deleted) on the filename of the converted message according to the flags found in "Status:"/"X-Status:"/"X-Mozilla-Status:"/"X-Evolution:" headers of the original mail

Elmo 1.3.2
Elmo is a feature-rich, highly configurable and fast mail client. more>>
Elmo is a feature-rich, highly configurable and fast mail client. You could call it a Mail User Agent, but it offers much more than traditional MUAs.
Elmo should be easy and pleasant to use.
- The user should not be forced to configure many options before using it, nor read a long users manual. We provide a short script, elmoconf.pl (in the src/ directory) which will create a configuration file for you, providing reasonable defaults. You can start using the full power of Elmo in half a minute!
Elmo should be very fast and efficient.
- Elmo uses very efficient algorithms for several tasks. You shouldnt be surprised when you discover how fast it opens your mail folder with hundreds or even thousands of mail. For example, opening a folder with 7,000 mails lasts only four seconds!
You should be able to modify Elmo as you like.
- You, as a user of Elmo, are the most important in our project. You should be able to configure your mail client as you like, and nothing should constrain you. Thats why our configuration file has so many options: as your needs grow, you will be able to make Elmo behave exactly as you wish.
- Moreover, if you have suggestions, special wishes and advice, we would like to hear from you! If time allows, we will gladly incorporate your suggestions into a future version of Elmo.
Elmo will not require special external software.
- With traditional MUAs, such as Mutt, you usually have to set up an SMTP server, such as Sendmail, and often use additional tools like fetchmail to get your mail. With Elmo you can use this traditional approach but you dont have to: Elmo can send and receive mail on its own, which means you are less dependent.
Elmo should have a good, modular design.
- While it may not seem important to you, it does influence our ability to add new features to Elmo. We worked hard to make Elmo easily extensible, using best software-development methodologies.
Main features:
- SMTP support (with authentication support)
- POP3 support
- a Bayesian mail filter!
- an address-book
- colors
- threads
- keymaps and hooks
- maildir and (partial) mbox support
- MIME support (including support for encoded headers)
- partial GPG support (decoding, and signature verification)
- OpenSSL support
- partial UTF-8 support
- interactive search

mairix 0.21
mairix is a tool for indexing and searching email messages stored in Maildir, MH, or mbox folders. more>>
mairix is a tool for indexing and searching email messages stored in Maildir, MH, or mbox folders. The index contains a map of which words occur in which parts of which messages.
Searches on this index are fast and generate symlinks to the matching messages in a new Maildir or MH folder, or copies of matching messages in an mbox folder, which can be browsed normally in a mail client.
Main features:
- Indexing is fast. It runs incrementally on new messages - any particular message only gets scanned once in the lifetime of the index file.
- The search mode populates a "virtual" maildir (or MH) folder with symlinks which point to the real messages. This folder can be opened as usual in your mail program. (Note, if messages are in mbox folders, copies are made. Similarly if the virtual folder has mbox format, it is filled with copies of the matched messages.)
- The search mode is very fast.
- Indexing and searching works on the basis of words. The index file tabulates which words occur in which parts (particular headers + body) of which messages.
Enhancements:
- A handful of bugs were fixed: crashes in the name/value parser, handling of . and .. in MH folders, broken mbox folders, and indexing when the database only contained a single message.

Doxygen 1.5.3
Doxygen is a documentation system for C++, C, Java, Objective-C, IDL and to some extent PHP, C#, and D. more>>
Doxygen project is a documentation system for C++, C, Java, Objective-C, IDL (Corba and Microsoft flavors) and to some extent PHP, C#, and D.
Main features:
- It can generate an on-line documentation browser (in HTML) and/or an off-line reference manual (in $mbox{LaTeX}$ ) from a set of documented source files. There is also support for generating output in RTF (MS-Word), PostScript, hyperlinked PDF, compressed HTML, and Unix man pages. The documentation is extracted directly from the sources, which makes it much easier to keep the documentation consistent with the source code.
- You can configure doxygen to extract the code structure from undocumented source files. This is very useful to quickly find your way in large source distributions. You can also visualize the relations between the various elements by means of include dependency graphs, inheritance diagrams, and collaboration diagrams, which are all generated automatically.
- You can even `abuse doxygen for creating normal documentation (as I did for this manual).
Doxygen is developed under Linux and Mac OS X, but is set-up to be highly portable. As a result, it runs on most other Unix flavors as well.
