TCCBOOT 0.1

TCCBOOT 0.1

TCCBOOT is a boot loader able to compile and boot a Linux kernel directly from its source code. more>>
TCCBOOT project is a boot loader able to compile and boot a Linux kernel directly from its source code.

TCCBOOT is only 138 KB big (uncompressed code) and it can compile and run a typical Linux kernel in less than 15 seconds on a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4.

TCCBOOT is based on the TinyCC compiler, assembler and linker. TinyCC is an experiment to produce a very small and simple C compiler compatible with the GNU C compiler and binary utilities.

TCCBOOT boots the same way as a Linux kernel, so any boot loader which can run a bzImage Linux kernel image can run TCCBOOT. I only tested it with ISOLINUX, but LILO or GRUB should work too.

TCCBOOT reads C or assembly sources from a gzipped ROMFS filesystem stored in an Initial Ram Disk (initrd). It first reads the file boot/tccargs which contains the TinyCC command line (same syntax as the tcc executable). The TinyCC invocation should output one binary image kernel. This image is loaded at address 0x00100000. TCCBOOT then does a jump to the address 0x00100000 in 32 bit flat mode. This is compatible with the ABI of the vmlinux kernel image.

Compilation:

TCCBOOT was only tested with Linux 2.4.26. In order to build TCCBOOT, you must first compile a 2.4.26 kernel because for simplicity TCCBOOT uses some binary files and headers from the Linux kernel. TCCBOOT also needs the source code of TinyCC (tested with TinyCC version 0.9.21). You can modify the Makefile to give the needed paths.

Example:

An "Hello World" ROMFS partition is included (initrd.img). You can rebuild it from the example/ directory. You can test it with the QEMU PC emulator with the qemu-tccboot script.

Kernel compilation:

For your information, the patch linux-2.4.26-tcc.patch gives the necessary modifications to build a Linux kernel with TCCBOOT (NOTE: it is not suffisant to build the kernel with its own Makefiles - I never tried). The corresponding kernel configuration is in file linux-2.4.26-config. Patches are necessary for the following reasons:

- unsupported assembly directives: .rept, .endr, .subsection
- #define __ASSEMBLY__ needed in assembly sources
- static variables cannot be seen from the inline assembly code
- typing/lvalue problems with ? :
- no long long bit fields
- aligned attribute not supported for whole structs, only for fields
- obscur preprocessor bug

Some of these problems could easily be fixed, but I am too lazy now. It is sure that there are still many bugs in the kernel generated by TinyCC/TCCBOOT, but at least it can boot and launch a shell.

Myah Linux 3.0 Tech Demo 2

Myah is a simple and easy to use Operating System for standard Intel or AMD powered computers. more>>
Myah is an Operating System based on the Linux kernel. Myah is a "Live CD", so no installation is required. Myah Linux Operating System runs right off the CD, putting whatever system files it needs into RAM only.
You simply start up your PC with the Myah CD. Once youre done with Myah, simply restart your PC. The CD will eject automatically and all will be exactly as it was before.
Our goal is to bring you the best free Operating System and to inform PC owners they dont have to spend their money on Windows or OS X. There is something better, and its free. Whenever we improve Myah or Linux in general those updates will be free.
There are many Linux-based Live CDs our there. So weve made sure Myah is different by including the programs youre going to use on a daily basis. To Windows users the unfamiliar Linux program names can be confusing. So weve changed the menus to make sense. For instance Kopete, a Linux instant messenger service, is simply called Messenger.
Programs have been added to the task bar for quick and easy access. Also: the user isnt hassled for any information during startup. Myah boots up completely on its own. It starts in the main administrative account called Root.
The user has full rights. And since Myah runs right off the CD you cant break it.This whole website is committed to bringing people the best of Linux and its software, so we advertise many other Linux Operating Systems. As a plus for people who cant leave Windows (tm), we offer the Live CD. And its all free for everyone to use. So please: dont waste your money.
Main features:
- Its just as easy as putting the Myah CD in your computer and rebooting. Everything is automatic, detecting your hardware, even your internet connection. All this is done without making any permenet changes to your computer. At anytime just reboot the computer, and your normal system is back.
- Myah uses the KDE destop, that comes with a great set of utilities. Control Center you have the power to tune the system as you like. K3b is Myahs CD burning programs. K3b is powerful easy to use program.
- Myah lets you breeze though the Internet with Firefox. And if you have ever wanted to try creating you own Websites NVU is included. NVU makes it possible to create professional looking Webpages, without knowing html. Just point and click.
- If office software is a must, Open Office has every thing you need. While working is nice to have something to listed to. Realplayer can handle radio stations form Shoutcast, or even let you check out there latest videos online.
- Myahs messanger Kopete will let you stay connected to with anyone, no matter what service they might use. And for all those photos Gimp is a complete solution. Myah comes Jam packed with many other programs, all in a simple and easy to use menu. Just click the penguin and begin.
Enhancements:
- Myah OS 3 Tech Demo 2 is now available. This is still a development release but it should be fairly stable and have a well rounded selection of applications. It should mirror what the Xfce version of 3.0 will look like. There are still three objectives that need to be met before 3.0 stable: firstly, to get the system well tested to weed out any bugs or setting changes, secondly, to work on Myahs package management system, and finally, there is still no actual installer. Both binary packages and source packages will be made available and since the bulk of the system has been completed, development should come much faster from now on.

Tuxedo 2.08

Tuxedo 2.08

Tuxedo is a Perl extension module for Tuxedo. more>>
Tuxedo is a Perl extension module for Tuxedo.

This module provides the following functionality...

C style interface

The Tuxedo perl module gives you access to almost all of the tuxedo 8.1 apis from perl. In most cases you can take the C API you already familiar with, apply perl semantics to it, and write working tuxedo programs in perl.

Object wrapping of C structures

Many tuxedo functions take pointers to C structures as function parameters. To preserve the C interface, this module provides perl objects that encapsulate the C structures used by tuxedo. These objects allow the user to create and manipulate the elements of these C structures, and these objects are then passed as parameters to the perl version of these tuxedo C functions.

buffer management

Perl classes exist for each buffer type to allow for easy manipulation of buffer contents and automatic memory cleanup when no more references to the buffer exist.

callback subs

perl subs can be registered as unsolicited message handlers and signal handlers.

FML/FML32 field table support

This module includes the mkfldpm32.pl script that is the perl equivalent of the tuxedo mkfldhdr32 program. It accepts a field table file as input and produces a *.pm file that can be included in a perl script, so field identifiers can be referenced by id.

perl tuxedo services

You can now write tuxedo services in perl. When you build the Tuxedo module, it should create a tuxedo server called PERLSVR. This is a tuxedo server that contains an embedded perl interpretor for executing perl tuxedo services. When PERLSVR boots up, it parses the perlsvr.pl script, which at the moment it expects to find in its working directory. The location of perlsvr.pl will be configurable in a future version. The perlsvr.pl script is run as the tpsvrinit routine. You can modify perlsvr.pl to define any subs you want to be tuxedo services and advertise these subs.

There are a few rules for writing subs that are to be run as tuxedo services.

1) They must accept a single input parameter which is a reference to a TPSVCINFO_PTR object.
2) They must return 5 parameters corresponding to the parameters of the tpreturn tuxedo function. You dont call tpreturn directly from a perl sub tuxedo service. When the sub returns, the PERLSVR will extract the return values from the perl stack and call tpreturn for you.

Below is the perlsvr.pl that is included with this distribution. It demonstrates how to write and advertise two simple perl subs that act as tuxedo services.

use Tuxedo;

sub TOUPPER {
my ($tpsvcinfo) = @_;
my ($inbuf) = $tpsvcinfo->data;
$inbuf->value( ($newval = uc($inbuf->value)) );
return ( TPSUCCESS, 0, $inbuf, $tpsvcinfo->len, 0 );
}

sub REVERSE {
my ($tpsvcinfo) = @_;
my ($buf) = $tpsvcinfo->data;
$buf->value( ($newval = reverse($buf->value)) );
return ( TPSUCCESS, 0, $buf, $tpsvcinfo->len, 0 );
}

tpadvertise( "TOUPPER", &TOUPPER );
tpadvertise( "REVERSE", &REVERSE );

Future versions of this module will include

workstation and native modules

Different modules will exist for native and workstation tuxedo development. Currently native is the default.

An object oriented tuxedo interface

Version 1 of the Tuxedo module only presented an object oriented interface to the user. This version of the Tuxedo module presents the original C interface to make perl tuxedo development easier for experienced tuxedo programmers. The object oriented interface will co-exist with the C interface in a future version of this module.

SLAX Popcorn Edition 5.1.8

SLAX Popcorn Edition 5.1.8

SLAX Popcorn Edition is a pocket operating system which fits even 128MB USB Flash Drives! more>>
SLAX Popcorn Edition is a pocket operating system which fits even 128MB USB Flash Drives! SLAX Popcorn Edition contains XFce desktop, Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, XMMS, AbiWord & Gaim.
This special modification of the SLAX live CD, Popcorn Edition, has been released after a week of beta testing.
Main features:
- XFce desktop
- Mozilla Firefox browser
- Mozilla Thunderbird mail client
- XMMS (in fact, its beep-media-player)
- Gaim (ICQ/AIM/etc client)
- MPlayer to play videos and to listen internet radio
- AbiWord text editor
SLAX is a small bootable CD containing the Linux operating system. It runs Linux directly from the CD (or USB) without installing.
The Live CD described here is based on the Slackware Linux distribution and is downloadable from this website as an ISO image.
The primary goal of SLAX is to provide a wide collection of useful software while keeping the cds image small enough to be written to a 185 MB CD-R(W) medium (small 8 cm CD). SLAX boots directly from the CD or USB devices and it provides a full featured Linux operating system.
All your available partitions and data storage devices (CD-ROM, USB storage devices, etc.) should be recognized at boot and should be mounted to /mnt/xx. As an example, "disc0part1" may be assigned to the first partition on your primary hard drive, "disc1part1" for your USB storage device, or "cdrom0" for your CD-ROM drive. SLAX will never write anything to the mounted devices. Mounting is safe and does not change the data.
After booting, you should be able to login as a "root", with the password "toor"; both without quotes, of course :)
When logged in, you have many options. At the shell prompt, you may start Midnight Commander (type "mc" to the console), play some music from your hard drive (type "play /mnt/path/file.mp3"), adjust your audio volume (type "alsamixer"), configure IP address (type "netconfig") or browse web pages with the text-based browser (type "lynx http://url").
To start the graphical environment included with SLAX, type "gui" (for graphical user interface). It will attempt to autoconfigure your graphics card, monitor, keyboard and mice, and if successful it will run an X session with KDE. Im pretty sure that you will know how to get around at this point. :-) Use "guisafe" instead of "gui" for safe-mode (VESA framebuffer) without autodetection.
In the unfortunate case your mouse doesnt work, try to move it for a few seconds to see if it will be autodetected. If it isnt, shut down Xwindow (press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) and start it again. If this wont help then you are using something I have not included in the autoconfiguration process (COM2 mouse?). If you are comfortable with bash, or you atleast understand how to make your favorite mouse function under Linux, try to modify the symbolic link /dev/mouse manually.
If you dont like the autoconfigured screen resolution, refresh rate, or the K Desktop Environment, start "gui" with some additional options. Try for example "gui 800x600 60", where 800x600 is the desired screen resolution and 60 is the desired refresh rate. Fluxbox is one of the other window managers included and may be called with "guifast" or "gui fluxbox". In any event, type "gui --help" for more information.
All scripts and source code are available and can be used to build your own Live CD.
SLAX is available as an ISO image of the CD. It fits on small 8cm CD-R(W). Burn it with your favorite cd-writing software and then boot from the CD.
You might want to check your BIOS to assure its set to boot the CD prior the disc.
Enhancements:
- added KDE 3.5.4 with Slackware 11 fixes for media:/ URL in konqueror
- probeusb parameter now sleeps delay_use+1 seconds to wait for USB devices
- (this usually defaults to 6 seconds)
- fixed fuse libraries, which were missing in rc1 version
- added newest NTFS-3g beta version, NTFS writing now works, I hope
