Millers Quest! 0.9.1

Millers Quest! 0.9.1

Millers Quest! is a fire-and-forget RPG, or more accurately, an RPG simulator. more>>
Millers Quest! is a role-playing simulator game. It could also be described as a "fire-and-forget role-playing game". In other words, it is not a role-playing game in the most traditional sense, because there is absolutely no player interaction. The emphasis on this game is the simulation of role-playing.
So, it is a completely non-interactive computer role-playing game. "I guess its not fun then", I can hear you say. Wrong! Millers Quest! is, in fact, very much fun. It has all of the excitement of traditional MMORPGs with none of the effort to be put in mindless treadmilling.
You can watch your character grow more potent and more powerful, and you dont need to bore yourself with details like "okay, attack the monster, Im going to win anyway".
Millers Quest! was largely inspired by its direct ancestor, Progress Quest. It is written in Ruby programming language and as such it was largely also inspired by Dwemthys Array, without any of its clever metaprogramming stuff and general bore of having to use irb to play it.
Players of Progress Quest should be right at home with Millers Quest!. What tells MQ and PQ apart is the fact that MQ is not entirely progress-driven. In MQ, all monsters have actual stats. Theres actual, stats- and probability-based fighting involved.
Since dying in a continually running game is pretty damn boring, you get also revived and healed automatically if that occurs. MQ owes a lot of its continued existence to Ruby Development Tools, the Ruby environment for the Eclipse Platform.
Enhancements:
- The combat system wasnt working quite properly, and is now fixed (somewhat).
- A confusing display message has been fixed.
- New features include optional support for curses/terminfo, allowing better-looking and more comprehensive combat display by coloring the output. (This currently requires tput(1) from ncurses.)

Ingo H3 1.1.3

Ingo H3 1.1.3

Ingo is an email-filter management application. more>>
Ingo, the "Email Filter Rules Manager", started as a frontend for the Sieve filter language, and is now a generic and complete filter rule frontend that currently is able to create Sieve, procmail, and IMAP filter rules.
The IMAP filter driver translates the filter rules on demand to IMAP commands, executed via PHPs IMAP extension and has replaced IMPs internal filtering code. Ingo H3 is now the default filtering agent in IMP H3 (4.0).
Ingo is able to create and eventually run server as well as client filter scripts. The filter script API is flexible enough that any number of filter drivers can be written and "plugged in". A maildrop driver for example would be a nice addition. Each filter driver exposes its capabilities to Ingo, that in return adapts its UI to display only those rules and features that the driver can actually handle.
It supports a set of "special" rules that are either translated to their native counterparts of the filter script backend or emulated through filter script commands. These rules are Blacklist, Whitelist, Forwards, and Vacation. Maybe they will replace the existing Horde modules Vacation and Forwards of the Sork suite in the future. These are much older than Ingo and currently support dot-forward, LDAP, SQL, qmail, Mdaemon, and SOAP backends.
Ingo abstracts storage, script, and transport backends. That means that the filter rules in Ingos internal format can be stored in several places. Currently only Hordes preferences are supported, but SQL or LDAP storage drivers would be easy to write.
The transport backends are responsible for uploading the generated filter scripts to the filter backends, for example to Cyrus timsieved daemon or through Hordes VFS (Virtual File Storage) API via FTP to the users home directories or into a SQL database. System administrators are able to switch to a different filter system or script storage at any time and the users filter rules will persist.
The applications name has been created during the quest for a nice, "hordish" name for the new born code, and is short for "Mail comes in...Where does it go?".
Enhancements:
- Blacklists and whitelists when using the IMAP driver have been fixed.
- The German, Finnish, Portuguese, and Traditional Chinese translations have been updated.

OurNet::Query 1.56

OurNet::Query 1.56

OurNet::Query is a Perl module for scriptable queries with template extraction. more>>
OurNet::Query is a Perl module for scriptable queries with template extraction.

SYNOPSIS

use OurNet::Query;

# Set query parameters
my ($query, $hits) = (autrijus, 10);
my @sites = (google, google); # XXX: write more templates!
my %found;

# Generate a new Query object
my $bot = OurNet::Query->new($query, $hits, @sites);

# Perform a query
my $found = $bot->begin(&callback, 30); # Timeout after 30 seconds

print *** . ($found ? $found : No) . match(es) found.;

sub callback {
my %entry = @_;
my $entry = %entry;

unless ($found{$entry{url}}) {
print "*** [$entry->{title}]" .
" ($entry->{score})" .
" - [$entry->{id}]n" .
" URL: [$entry->{url}]n";
}

$found{$entry{url}}++;
}

This module provides an easy interface to perform multiple queries to internet services, and wraps them into your own format at once. The results are processed on-the-fly and are returned via callback functions.

Its interfaces resembles that of WWW::Searchs, but implements it in a different fashion. While WWW::Search relies on additional subclasses to parse returned results, OurNet::Query uses site descriptors for search search engine, which makes it much easier to add new backends.

Site descriptors may be written in XML, Template toolkit format, or the .fmt format from the commercial Inforia Quest product.

Heroes 0.21

Heroes 0.21

Heroes project is a Nibbles-like game, just better. more>>
Heroes project is a Nibbles-like game, just better.
Heroes is similar to the "Tron" and "Nibbles" games of yore, but includes many graphical improvements and new game features.
In it, you must maneuver a small vehicle around a world and collect powerups while avoiding obstacles, your opponents trails, and even your own trail.
There are five game modes available. Quest is the classical Nibbles, in Death Match you start with very long tails and must kill your opponents, in Killem All you must run over lemmings moving on the ground, in Time Cash or Color modes you must collect money or pyramids of color. Heroes features 12 original sound tracks, 94 levels (in 10 different tile sets) plus a level editor.
Heroes source code (distributed under the GNU General Public Licence version 2) originates from an original MS-DOS game but has been heavily modified to enhance the portability. Some new features have been added and MS-DOS support has been lost by the meantime. The original MS-DOS version can still be found on the Internet but is unmaintained and should be considered obsolete.
The current development concentrates on cleaning the code and porting the game to the various operating systems available. Our objective is to release the version 1.0 as a clean and portable base that would allow significant additions such as network support or programmable vehicles.
Enhancements:
- Support for the heroes-hq-sound-tracks package.
Bug fixes:
- soundconf: failed to override aliases.
- Heroes GGI driver failed to report an error if no two-frame mode was available.
- Various code nits.

Avadan 0.19a

Avadan 0.19a

Avadan is a rogue-like role-playing game situated in space. more>>
Avadan project is a rogue-like role-playing game situated in space.
The player travels from planet to planet in order to find the mystical oracles. The player is placed in nethack-style dungeons. The whole game is rogue-like, but with the extension of space travels.
The dungeons are shown with tile graphics, and space looks a bit better. On space stations, the player can talk to NPCs, get quests, and trade artifacts found in the dungeons.
To execute the game, you have to open and run the project with Gambas (>= 0.19.20). The finished version will include a binary with all source and data in one big file, so then youll still need gambas for execution, but the game can be started itself; you dont need to use the Gambas IDE.
To see how it works, you should stay in galaxy sector 2-3, fly to the stations entry (with cursor keys), press "d" to dock and then "l" to land on the planet. There you can discover a nethack-style dungeon, slash monsters, collect treasures and so on. The goal is to reach the oracle in dungeon level 10. Press "t" to talk to traders and the oracle. Press "F1" in every stage of the game to get help (esp. about the meaning of keys).
Enhancements:
- added magic weapons
- scrolls can be read (used)
- rearranged some parts of the code
- chests can be traps
- added oracles (essential for win the game, on dungen level 10)
- made enemies stronger
- added enemies for dungeon levels 5-10

Formido is one of those games, where you are loaded with some guns and you go shooting different things. Things in this case are big, ugly, - not green though - alien insects. The idea is to kill as many of those bastards as possible.
Eventually they will overcome you, but struggle as long as you can. There are some power-ups to aid you in your honorable quest. Keep in mind, that those critters are rather tough and generally do nasty things when in close range of any player-characters.
Formido project is free software released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). Read the included documentation for details.
If you get a super high score, send me some proof (a screenshot will do) and Ill include you to the Hall of Fame.
