Mailbox Strainer 0.91
Mailbox Strainer is a Superkaramba widget that examines an arbitrary number of IMAP mailboxes. more>>
Mailbox Strainer is a Superkaramba widget that examines an arbitrary number of IMAP mailboxes, POP3 mailboxes and local mail folders for new messages. For the latest new messages, the content of a specified header is displayed on the screen. When new messages arrive, Mailbox Strainer emits a notification via KNotify.
You may have serveral instances running such that each one checks its own collection of mailboxes. SpamAssassin may be invoked to detect spam, or message headers modified by external spam checkers can be evaluated. It is also possible to make SpamAssassin learn from specified IMAP or local folders.
Configuration can be done through a graphical interface or manually via a configuration file (an annotated configuration file is supplied).
Mailbox Strainer is written in Perl. Depending on the features you want to use, a number of Perl modules must be installed. In particular, PerlQt will be needed for the configuration dialog. All modules can be found at http://www.cpan.org , consider using the CPAN shell (perl -MCPAN -e shell) for this will automatically resolve dependencies. To find out which modules are missing on your system, invoke module-test.pl . (Hopefully I didnt forget any of them, it has become quite a number.)
The local mail capabilities are those of the Email::Folder::* modules, so they should be able to handle mbox and maildir. Currently, using the spam detection with local mbox folders is _strongly_ discouraged! It is likely to destroy your Emails, see http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.pep/68 for the reason. (A possible workaround is presented in http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.pep/72.) So spam checking is currently disabled for local mailboxes. You can enable it by changing lines 975, 998 and 1081 of perl/mailbox-strainer.pl. Remove "0 &&" from each of those lines.
A few words about password storage: The configuration dialog stores encrypted passwords (of length at least 8) in the configuration file. This is meant as a protection against accidentally displaying the configuration file, but nothing else. Consider this as a parody on proper encryption, even the secret key can be found in the perl scripts.

AqMail 0.9.1 Beta
AqMail fetches mails from remote mailboxes (POP3), applies admin-defined filters. more>>
AqMail fetches mails from remote mailboxes (POP3), applies admin-defined filters, and stores the email in local mailboxes for POP3 daemons to serve them.
AqMail project supports virtual mail domains and users. It has been tested with QMail as the MTA and with Spamassassin and ClamAV as filters.
Main features:
- supports virtual users and domains
- supports multiple remote boxes per user (mails can be gathered from remote boxes into local boxes)
- individual fetch intervals for every remote box of every user
- system-wide, domain-wide or per-user filtering of mail
- ordering of mail filters
- simple interface to filter scripts (basically "FILTER INFILE OUTFILE")
- POP3 client plugin with APOP or USER/PASS authentification
- maildir plugin (reads and writes maildir folders)
- tested with QMail, SpamAssassin and ClamAV
You can use AqMail to gather mails from multiple email accounts into a single account which can then be accessed via a webmail interface (e.g. OpenWebMail) or via a POP3 server (e.g. QMail).
AqMail can be used as a daemon which continuously fetches, filters and distributes mails. It can also be used in command mode (e.g. to fetch mails and store them directly to a maildir in order to just replace the tool fetchmail).
AqMail is running on my own system in combination with QMail. However, any mail transfer agent which is able to serve from maildir folders can be used.
Enhancements:
- The daemon mode has been improved since 0.9.0beta.

asmail 2.1
Asmail is a mail-checker like xbiff, but with the Afterstep look & feel. more>>
Asmail is a "mail-checker" like xbiff, but with the Afterstep look & feel. It indicates the status of your mailbox. It can be put in the Wharf, execute program on incoming mail, execute program on mouseclick, show animations and more...
The application is has an AfterStep look & feel, multiple e-mail mailboxes monitor for computers running X Windows.
This application reads the configuration file and launches as many threads as there are mailboxes defined. There is no limit on the number of mailboxes to watch. Each mailbox
is verified according to the timeout specified in the configuration file. The progress and the status of mailboxes are presented on the screen.
The application may present a summary of all mailboxes or each mailbox separately (as many as will fit into the picture). You can specify the XPM picture to use as the backdrop
animation for the status update.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a problem where error printing output causes errno to be set to a different value.

PowerMail 1.7
PowerMail provides a redundant and distributed system for receiving and storing mail. more>>
PowerMail provides a redundant and distributed system for receiving and storing mail.
PowerMail is a redundant and distributed system for receiving mail via SMTP and storing it for users to access with POP. The way PowerMail works is quite unorthodox, and its design emphasizes speed and efficiency.
Modified Maildir mailboxes allow PowerMail to employ hardlinks to save diskspace and deliver messages with thousands of recipients instantly.
PowerMail can operate self-sufficiently or cooperate with a regular MTA to support mail forwarding.
Enhancements:
- fixes for older gcc compilers (Ruben dArco)
- pptool ignored SYSCONFDIR and only did /etc/powermail (Ruben dArco)
- added ldap-forwarding-attribute
- --help display was somewhat screwed (Ruben dArco)
- run-as-uid/run-as-gid broken (Ruben dArco)

newmail-md 1.0
newmail is a command line utility to check for new/unread mail in a recursive Maildir++ folder structure. more>>
newmail is a command line utility to check for new/unread mail in a recursive Maildir++ folder structure.
Examples
These are some “usage scenarios” of newmail. For the complete documentation refer to the man page or see below.
To get a quick overview about which folders contain unread mail, its sufficient to call newmail without any commandline arguments:
$ newmail
2 [ INBOX ]
11 /lists/bugtraq
2 /lists/netbsd-current
4 /lists/pkgsrc-cvs
Ah, right. But theres a total of... how many mails?
$ newmail -at
56170
And what are the top ten folders, excluding spam & trash, please?
$ newmail -a | grep -vi spam|trash | sort -nr | head
11260 /lists/info
4287 /lists/bugtraq
1557 [ INBOX ]
1062 /lists/pkgsrc-cvs
955 /bank
719 /burningsoda/svn
569 /lists/bsd
388 /studium
312 /lists/communities
306 /lists/info_kbx
The following three lines in your .muttrc make mutts browser switch between showing all folders and only folders containing unread mail by pressing keys ‘a’ and ‘n’ respectively:
mailboxes `newmail`
macro browser a ":unmailboxes *< enter >:mailboxes `newmail -am`< enter >< check-new >"
"show all mailboxes"
macro browser n ":mailboxes *< enter >:mailboxes `newmail -m`< enter >< check-new >"
"show only mailboxes containing new mail"
OPTIONS
-a, --all
Count the total number of mails for every folder in DIRECTORY.
-m, --mutt
Output folder names in a mutt friendly way. Using this option the output of newmail can be used by the mailboxes command in mutt (see below).
This options has no effect, if --total is specified.
-n, --no-unseen
Do not treat unseen mails as new. This may be used to speed up newmail, especially on slow file systems. Only use this option if you are sure that no other process watches the structure and moves mails out of the new/ to the cur/ directory of the mail folders. IMAP servers typically do this, once they told clients about those mails.
This options has no effect, if --all is specified.
-t, --total
Sum up the total number of mails (according to the other options, of course) and display nothing but this number.

archmbox 4.9.0
archmbox is an email archiver. more>>
Archmbox is a simple email archiver written in perl; it parses one or more mailboxes, selects some or all messages and then performs specific actions on the selected messages.
At this time archmbox supports mbox and mbx mailbox formats.
Four different modes are available:
- list mode, which is useful to list all selected messages before archmbox performs the real operations (archiving or deleting)
- kill mode, if messages should be deleted from the mailbox(es) rather than archived
- archive mode, to archive the selected messages in a different mailbox
- copy mode, to copy the selected messages from the source mailbox
Messages selection is based upon a date criteria; an absolute date or a days offset can be specified. It is also possible to refine the selection using regular expressions on the header fields of the message.
All archived messages are stored in a new mailbox with the same name of the original one plus .archived as extension (this is the default, but can be changed); the archive mailbox can be saved in gz or bz2 compressed format as well.
Archmbox was successfully tested on the following platforms:
- Linux
- FreeBSD
- NetBSD
- OpenBSD
- MacOS X
- OpenDarwin
- Sun Solaris
A little hack is needed for Sun Solaris; please read here or the INSTALL file included with the distribution for further details.

Deletemail 0.5
Deletemail is a non-interactive tool for removing mail from one or more IMAP4 mailboxes. more>>
Deletemail is a non-interactive tool for removing mail from one or more IMAP4 mailboxes. It removes mail older than a configurable number of days, and by default does not remove mail that is not marked as seen on the server.
By default, mail which is not marked as seen on the server will not be deleted. If, for example, fetchmail is used for receiving mail from an IMAP server, deletemail might be useful, since fetchmail deletes mail either immediately or not at all.
Thus, you could use fetchmails keep option (so that fetchmail never deletes anything) and let deletemail handle the removal of mail. Currently, the IMAP4 and IMAP4rev1 protocols are supported, optionally using SSL/TLS for secure IMAP connections.
Enhancements:
- The handling of unexpected IMAP server behavior and connection problems was improved, and a few minor bugs have been fixed.

IMAPFilter 2.0.3
IMAPFilter is a mail filtering utility. more>>
IMAPFilter is a mail filtering utility. It connects to remote mail servers using the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), sends searching queries to the server and processes mailboxes based on the results.
IMAPFilter can be used to delete, copy, flag, move, etc. messages residing in mailboxes at the same or different mail servers. The 4rev1 and 4 versions of the IMAP protocol are supported.
IMAPFilter uses the Lua programming language as a configuration and extension language.
Main features:
- Definition of filters using many searching criteria available in the IMAP protocol, such as:
- Matching of a string in the headers or the body of a message.
- Size of a message.
- Date of a message.
- Status (recent, unread, etc.) of a message.
- Ability to use logical operators (and/or/not) while defining filters.
- Different actions when a filter matches a message, including:
- Deleting of a message.
- Moving of a message to a mailbox in the same of different servers
- Copying of a message to a mailbox in the same or different servers.
- Changing of a messages flags.
- Listing of the available and/or subscribed mailboxes, along with support for the IMAP CHILDREN extension.
- Internationalisation (I18N) support.
- Server namespace support using the IMAP NAMESPACE extension.
- Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) encrypted imaps (port 993) connections.
- Encrypted connections using the IMAP STARTTLS extension.
- User authentication with the Challenge-Response Authentication Mechanism (CRAM), specifically CRAM-MD5.

Postilion 0.9.3c
Postilion is a mail user agent based upon the popular TkRat program. more>>
Postilion is a mail user agent based upon the popular TkRat program. The main changes to TkRat are in the user interface portion, so all of the underlying functionality of TkRat remains. This includes MIME support, Virtual folders, PGP support, support for unix mail files, MH folders, POP and IMAP.
Many other features and enhancements have been added to Postilion, ranging from robust support for IMAP in a shared folder environment, to subtle touches which make mail browsing just a bit more pleasant of an experience. This program was made by the users requests.
Great effort has been made to support multiuser environments with support for system wide configurations, mailboxes and address books; shared folders, etc. Many of these features require the use of IMAP mailboxes. When you build Postilion, you will also build an IMAP4rev1 server which you can experiment with. See the "imap" directory for details.
One of the main features of TkRat which has not survived the transition well at all is multi-language interface support (TkRat had built-in support for English, Swedish and Italian). The reason for this is that I have changed much of the text, yet I do not know these languages for translation. Instructions are included for how to do translations, and I solicit any interested party to contribute their translations (please contact me before starting, just so I can coordinate efforts). Postilion currently has support for English, French, German, Italian Dutch and Swedish.
