Slackintosh 12.0

Slackintosh 12.0

Slackintosh is a port of Slackware GNU/Linux to PPC (Macintosh). more>>
Slackintosh is a port of Slackware GNU/Linux to PPC (Macintosh).

Russell Kroll was the first person who ported Slackware to PPC (http://slackintosh.exploits.org), but the project stalled with an unfinished 9.1 ..

I (Adrian) started again from scratch porting 10.1 to PPC, and ive stolen the name Slackintosh...

Please note that this port was not done by Russell, dont send him Bugreports.

I used the the Sources + SlackBuild files from Slackware 10.1. ..but i had to make a few changes:

The new Binutils from 10.x didnt like GCC, i used the 9.1 Version to build everything. The Installer uses BusyBox 1.0 and Linux 2.4 is not included, only 2.6.11.5 (Runs better on PPC .. imho)

Its not finished: Not all packages are ported. Youll get gcc, X, Mozilla, XFCE, Gimp.. but no
monsters like KDE & Co.

The installer maybe somewhat funky.. Missing packages are still listed and the yaboot installation isnt tested very well...

..but you should be able to get it running. It won the WFM (WorksForMe) price. (Tested on a MiniMac & iBook2)

Early Macintosh Image LoadEr allows to boot linux-m68k from a floppy on a macintosh such as MacII or Quadra 610.
With it, you can create rescue disk, or remove the MacOS partition (needed by the legacy penguin booter) from your HD.
Create a floppy from rescue disk image
You can find floppy image from the package emile-rescue
Under linux, the command to dump image to floppy is:
# dd if=emile-rescue-x.y.bin of=/dev/fd0 bs=512 conv=sync
then, you can eject floppy with:
# eject /dev/fd0
If you are using MacOS, use MakeDebianFloppy AppleScript (you must use a floppy image with a size of exactly 1474560 bytes).
Enhancements:
- This release has improved SCSI support, allows you to create a bootable CD-ROM, adds Debian packaging, updates the PowerPC part (currently not usable), and introduces apple_driver (currently not usable).

WMTosh 0.4

WMTosh 0.4

WMTosh is an ACPI monitoring applet, targeted at toshiba laptops. more>>
WMTosh is an ACPI monitoring applet, targeted at toshiba laptops. It can show cpuspeed, temperature, battery level, fan function.

WMTosh also allows a limited control of those functions, plus lcd brightnes. As for now limited to linux.

I wrote this small dockapp in 2003, when i got my hands on the Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100, on which i was and am using ACPI. Back then there was almost no ACPI-aware DockApp. This one is based on WMiFS project, big thanks go to its authors. The first version supported ACPI performance and battery objects, as well as toshiba fan and toshiba brightness setting.

laptop 1.0

laptop 1.0

laptop is a small theme designed to show the battery laptop status. more>>
laptop is a small theme designed to show the battery laptop status.

The theme look is based on aSensors theme. The basic idea, the battery icons and some of the code is from the sk_battery applet. Other parts are taken from the superkaramba examples.

After I made the first parts, I realized there is too much space left on the panel, so I put a mixer on the widget and a penguin to kill the useless applets (when on battery, I usually dont have internet connection, so I dont need eg. kopete and kcheckgmail).

Note that the penguin-menu appears only when the widget is locked.

I planned first this penguin to hibernate the computer, but this can be done using KLaptop, so it would b useless. If you want to include this feature, Ive left the icon in the pics directory, you can modify the code, eg. by uncommenting and modifying the last line in laptop.theme.

Dont forget to modify the paths for the icons in laptop.py!

Old Laptop As Firewall is a single, 1440kb floppy Linux with 16-bit PCMCIA support and PPP for using a Pentium I/II laptop to firewall a dial-up connection.
The floppy is msdos-formatted and uses Syslinux to boot into a 4MB ramdisk with a Minix version 2 filesystem. The system was compiled with uClibc 0.9.28.
Main features:
- 2.4.34 non-modular kernel, compressed with lzma
- uClibc 0.9.28
- busybox 1.4.1
- pcmcia-cs 3.2.8
- pppd 2.4.4b1
- iptables 1.3.7
- dnsmasq 2.35
- 100 kb free on the floppy to add more programs!
Version restrictions:
- OLAF has not been tested with more than one computer behind
- the firewall (I only have two boxes to work with.)
- The supplied chat script probably wont work for many people.
- There currently isnt any support for local timezones.
- The Windows and Mac support is lacking; I dont have
- either OS to work with.
Enhancements:
- The file permissions in /etc/* were changed from 0600 to 0644 on all plain text files except gshadow, shadow, and ppp/pap-secrets.
- The file permissions on /bin/busybox were changed from 0700 to 0755.
- The original permissions were too strict for dnsmasq, which runs as user nobody and couldnt access /etc/hosts.

MacOSD 0.3.2

MacOSD 0.3.2

MacOSD is a visualization frontend for PBButtonsD, the button and power event daemon used for Apple computers. more>>
MacOSD is a visualization frontend for PBButtonsD, the button and power event daemon used for Apple computers.

For PowerPC laptops such as the iBooks and PowerBooks a special daemon named pbbuttonsd can handle the special "multi-media" keys to dim the display and regulate the audio volume accordingly.

However I find the example Gtk+ application gtkpbbuttons not that pretty.

So I implemented a more On-Screen-Display like variant. Currently it can utilize the XOSD library.

Although recently that other program got some pixmap theming support, it is still written in "handling every bit manually C" and still uses Gtk+.

The latest MacOSD deos now utilze the anti-aliasing and real alpha blending canvas library Evas. It does utilize gtkpbbuttons themes just fine - and comes with a slightly cleaned-up version CleanOSX

Version 0.3.0 of MacOSD is also able to provide real transparency With latest X.org servers and a running composition manager.

Laptop-Hotswap 0.3.6

Laptop-Hotswap 0.3.6

Laptop-Hotswap kernel module enables hot-swapping for disk drives with full DMA support under Linux. more>>
Laptop-Hotswap kernel module enables hot-swapping for disk drives with full DMA support under Linux. It requires kernel 2.6.15+ and ACPI.
I think it ought to work on just about any laptop, although Im not as familiar with ACPI as Id like to be. It works fine on my T22. There could be issues with laptops with two expansion bays -- I shut down the entire ide1 interface and fire it back up, and I do all my watching on the ACPI device for the IDE1/Master. So if you had a slave device, and you ejected the master, your slave will go bye-bye. Thinking about ways around that, but they dont export too much of the ide driver. I think itd be easy to handle, you just have to make sure youre not using either master or slave whenever you eject one of them.
At least on my laptop, dont go pulling things while your laptop is sleeping. Do it when its awake.
The floppy support should work, but my floppy drive isnt with me right now.
Theres one parameter -- auto_eject. If you set it to 1, the driver will automatically shut down and unregister the IDE interface upon getting a request for ejection (On my T22, I pull a little switch and a lever pops out -- the drive is still connected at that point, but it shows as a request for ejection). If your laptop doesnt have a mechanism for that:
echo -n "MSTR eject" > /proc/acpi/lths
Will shut down and software-eject the drive, and you can safely pull it and insert another.
See the scripts in config/ -- theyre made to work with acpid to handle the ejection and umounting and insertion. The mount/umount stuff only matters for a drive caddy, I suppose.
It shouldnt matter what you have in your laptop at boot. This module also fixes that annoying thing on my T22 where if I dont have a ultrabay battery in at boot, I cant ever see its status.
Enhancements:
- Support for the Fujitsu S7020 (and possibly other laptops using a PATA bay with an SATA main disk).

XMMS-Control 0.05 Beta

XMMS-Control 0.05 Beta

XMMS-Control provides a Web-based control for XMMS. more>>
XMMS-Control provides a Web-based control for XMMS.
XMMS-Control is a web-based interface for the XMMS (X MultiMedia System). XMMS is an MP3 player for Linux based systems (it also plays other media formats).
XMMS-Control is a graphical interface for the command-line utility XMMS-Shell.
Using XMMS-Control, you can control the music playng from an XMMS equipped machine from any PC on the network, including wireless laptops/PDAs!!!
Imagine being out in the pool and being able to control the music with an 802.11b based PocketPC using a browser! You can do it with XMMS-Control!
XMMS-Control has an interface for standard PCs (desktops/laptops), as well as a mobile/PDA formatted interface, for smaller screens!!!
In addition, XMMS-Control can itself be controlled via other programs (i.e., custom interfaces) using the XMMS-Control API/Hooks program! You can tie XMMS-Control into a larger system via this method.
Lets say youre creating a system for whole-house automation, and you wish to use ONE consistent interface. Well, with the XMMS-Control API/Hooks, you can!!!
Enhancements:
- Some major bugfixes... should work MUCH BETTER on most platforms that had problems before. If you had problems getting XMMS-Control installed and running, please try this new version! Please read the new installation entries in the manual!!!
- More detailed installation instructions for getting XMMS-Shell up and running (including V0.99) in the README & manual.
- Directories are now SORTED alphabetically on the file chooser screen (previously was unsorted).
- Should handle MP3 lists with file names and ID3 tags containing commas much better now (previously when a comma was encountered, the list was off by one, the name would get split, and the second half would go to the next line).

phpMyInventory 2.81

phpMyInventory 2.81

phpMyInventory is a web-based hardware and software inventory system. more>>
phpMyInventory (PMI) is a web-based inventory program designed to keep track of all your systems, software and peripherals. "Systems" include: PCs, servers, laptops, network printers, etc. See the project page to download v2.81 or to read the change log. Some screenshots are available on the left.

phpMyInventory requires PHP 4.0 or greater and MySQL, and runs on both Apache and IIS webservers. It includes a number of unique features, including:

* A flexible permissions system. For example, you can give users the ability to only view PMI data, the ability to view and update that data, or the view to view, update, and delete data.
* A software license tracker. You can specify whether software licenses are machine or user specific, and PMI will count how many licenses you have left. It will warn you when you drop to zero.

PMI is free and open source (GPL). It is a scaled-down (but completely functional) version of our commercial product, Syslist. Syslist includes features not found in PMI, such as automatic inventory of Windows PC, a ticket system, location tracking, reporting, and numerous UI improvements.

BasicLinux 3.50

BasicLinux 3.50

BasicLinux is designed specifically for old PCs. more>>
BasicLinux is designed specifically for old PCs. It uses a small kernel and busybox to provide a low-RAM Linux, capable of browsing the web, doing email, and functioning as an X terminal.

The current release of BasicLinux is particularly suitable for old laptops -- it has PCMCIA capability and includes MagicPoint (a presentation tool similar to PowerPoint).

The current release of BasicLinux is 3.32. BasicLinux comes in two versions: one boots from a DOS harddrive, the other boots from floppies. Both versions have the option to install themselves to a Linux partition on the harddrive.

BasicLinux has a slim IDE kernel and a small set of common modules. If you need a more capable kernel and/or additional kernel modules, you should get them from Slackware 7.1. You will find kernels in the /kernels directory and modules in the /modules directory.
