Crossfire+ 2.0

Crossfire+ 2.0

Crossfire+ server is located in southern germany and has a fast connection. more>>
Its main purpose, besides being fun to play, is to demo the specific versions of the server, archetypes and maps used by crossfire+. All files can be freely downloaded via CVS on the the crossfire+ project page.
It is especially suited for beginners who do not want to experience a very sharp and frustrating learning curve and party players who want to play together more easily.
Main features:
- Death is not permanent.
- Death causes no stats depletion and little experience points loss.
- Friendly fire causes no damage.
- Pet monsters and summoned creatures will not stand in the way of other party members, making it bearable to play with summoning skills in a party.
- The item power setting is "2".
- The crossfire maps can be viewed interactively at cfmaps.schmorp.de.
- We import your character file from other crossfire servers, up to some level, so you can use your character you played with at home, for example. Send your character files to crossfire@schmorp.de. Please dont send artifically improved characters.
- Player-killing is, as usual, not tolerated.
- If you want to try out a map on a public server, feel free to send it in.
- Map and graphics artists are working on improved graphics and new maps and quests.
- Due to the filthy ;) code quality, the server restarts automatically after a crash (within one minute).
- Emergency saves are disabled.
- You can reach the admins via IRC: server irc.schmorp.de (alternatively irc.plan9.de), channel #schmorp, user(s) schmorp or elmex.
- You can reach the admins via E-Mail: crossfire@schmorp.de.
- We are sometimes running the release, sometimes a CVS (not latest CVS) snapshot with some patches applied. If you encounter problems fixed in a newer snapshot feel free to report it.
- Player files and other variable data is backed up nightly to two different locations.
How to Connect
To connect to the server using e.g. cfclient or gcfclient, use this command:
cfclient -server crossfire.schmorp.de
or maybe...
cfclient -server crossfire.schmorp.de -mapsize 19x19 -font 9x15bold -cache
or you could use gcfclient or any other crossfire client.
If you use Debian GNU/Linux, you can find the clients in the crossfire-server-x11 and crossfire-server-gtk packages.
Enhancements:
- Large parts of the server have been rewritten.
- Map loading and saving and most I/O is done asynchronously, eliminating I/O-based lag.
- The server now regularly writes maps and players, so data loss on crash is minimized.
- Over 40 Perl extensions are available, such as a IRC gateway, transports, playershop, and minesweeper.
- The map system is now completely pluggable (for example, the world map is generated on the fly from an overlay).
- The file formats have been cleaned up and improved and use a faster parser now.
- A persistent database is available for data storage.

Rocks 2.4

Rocks 2.4

Rocks provides an user-level package for reliable and mobile network connections. more>>
Rocks provides an user-level package for reliable and mobile network connections.
Rocks protect sockets-based applications from network failures, particularly failures common to mobile computing, including:
.Link failures (e.g., unexpected modem disconnection);
.IP address changes (e.g., laptop movement, DHCP lease expiry);
.Extended periods of disconnection (e.g., laptop suspension).
Rock-enabled programs continue to run after any of these events; their broken connections recover automatically, without loss of in-flight data, when connectivity returns.
Rocks work transparently with most applications, including SSH clients, X-windows applications, and network service daemons.
Main features:
- Reliable: Rocks detect connection failures within seconds and reconnect automatically when connectivity is restored. Reconnection succeeds even when one end of the connection obtains a new IP address.
- Safe: Rocks recover lost in-flight data no matter when failures occur, safely interoperate with ordinary sockets, and authenticate resumed connections.
- User level: You can install and use rocks as an ordinary user. They do not require any kernel modifications.
- Transparent: You can use rocks with existing programs without re-programming, re-compiling, or re-linking.
- Easy to use: Rocks come with simple command-line tools for enabling rocks in ordinary programs.
Enhancements:
- Bug fixes.

tbibtools 0.4

tbibtools 0.4

tbibtools project provides a simple regexp-based bibtex parser. more>>
tbibtools project provides a simple regexp-based bibtex parser. Please be aware that this script makes a few assumptions on how a bib file should look like and that it may fail on files formatted in unusual ways.
Failure may lead to loss of bib entries and malformed or incomplete output. Comments and other text will be stripped when reformatting entries. Any feature of bibtex I dont know and/or dont use myself is most likely not supported by this script/class.
Please take care when using this script. Make backups and check the output, especially when using the -f command-line option. Dont blame me if you lose information or end up with corrupted bib files.
Enhancements:
- sortCrossref puts cross-referenced entries to the back.
- A new format, (un)selectCrossref, allows you to view only entries that are (not) cross-referenced.
- The syntax of the query command has changed: query FIELD1 => RX1, FIELD2 => RX2, etc.
- Duplicate entries and certain conflicting fields are merged.
- A problem with --ls has been fixed.

Ascension 0.3

Ascension 0.3

Ascension is a KDE email client. more>>
Ascension is my attempt at an email client. It makes use of the KDE libraries, so you will need KDE installed if you wish to use it (works with 3.2, might work with 3.1). Although the code is still in alpha, I have been using it as my main email client for over a year.
If you wish to try it, you would be sensible to backup your email first. Using imap should be relatively safe, but pop3 and Unix (local) mailboxes have not been so extensively tested. I take no responsibility for any loss of data while using this program. Ascension has only been tested under Linux.
The current version supports:
- IMAP (not SSL) mailboxes.
- Pop3 (not SSL) mailboxes.
- Unix mailboxes.
- Viewing of HTML messages (no HTML composing).
- Limited searching of headers.
- Dockable parts.
- Fonts and colours are configurable, as is much of the behvaiour.
Still to do:
- Support SSL connections (probably requires a rewrite of a good portion of the mailbox subsystem).
- PGP and S/MIME support.
- Virtual folders.
- A ton of ideas yet to come.
Enhancements:
- This is the first public release

DV Video Assembler 0.93

DV Video Assembler 0.93

DV Video Assembler allows you to append multiple Sony DV files. more>>
This application is particularly useful for owners of digital DV video cameras and other people who use the Sony DV video format for high quality video production.

DV Assembler allows you to append multiple Sony DV files with nice looking transition effects for both audio and video. Multiple transition effects are supported, like cross-fade, zoom, blur and a flash effect.

I created DV Assembler because there are no user friendly video editing applications for Linux. Yes, Kino is promising, but its user interface is still a mess and development is slow.

DV Assembler only touches the head and tail parts of the original video files that are needed to create the transition effects. The rest of the video is left untouched, which means zero quality loss.

DV Assembler can also be used to generate video editing scripts that can be run without KDE and Kommander.

KeepassX is a linux port of the windows application more>>
Keepass/L project is a linux port of the windows application "Keepass Password Safe".
It is a free/open-source password manager or safe which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key-disk.
So you only have to remember one single master password or insert the key-disk to unlock the whole database.
The databases are encrypted using the best and most secure encryption algorithms currently known (AES and Twofish).
Installation:
Make sure that the QT directory is in PATH.
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `qmake to configure the package for your system.
2. Type `make to compile the package.
3. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.
Enhancements:
- fixed crash when parsing config file under Win32
- fixed loss of entry icons when saving a database which was not created with KeePassX (no KPX_CUSTOM_ICONS metastream)
- introduces new metastream format for custom icons
- removed all old Qt3 support dependecies
- QtNetwork and QtSql are not longer requiered (when using Qt 4.1.3 or later)
- implemented correct UUID management for entries
- added delay of 0.3s before performing auto-type
- metastreams now get valid group IDs (KeePass/Win compatibility)
- fixed drawing errors when performing drag and drop operations in group view
- when there is no translation installed for the systems country preference but one for the same language the program will use it now
- when canceling the file dialog for the opening of an existing database a already openend database will not longer be closed
- same for the creation of a new database
- alpha blending for banner icons
- new standard banner icon
- MacOS packages: all Qt libraries are now included in the application bundle (extra installation is not longer necessary)

Kaspaliste 0.96

Kaspaliste 0.96

Kaspaliste is a literature database for Linux/KDE. more>>
Kaspaliste is a knowledge database which handles all types of books, articles, journals, webpages, etc.
This program is BETA software! It is based on a reliable database server, so complete data loss is not very likely. But other (hopefully minor) problems may occur. BACKUP YOUR DATABASE FRREQUENTLY AND KEEP OLD BACKUPS! I think its obvious: Im not a native english speaker. Corrections are welcome.
Kaspaliste is a literature database. It handles all kinds of books, articles, journals, webpages etc. The database goes beyond storing bibliographical information. There is the possibility to create annotated links between pieces of information (like the content of a book chapter) and to group links into categories.
The user interface works just like a web browser: You may follow the links to open records. You may walk back and forward through previously edited records, change fields, and create or delete links, publication, authors etc. on the fly with just one mouseclick.
Kaspaliste does not only store pieces of information about publications. It stores files as well. Kaspaliste handels various formats like html, pdf, ps, dvi and pictures (depends on your KDE-installation since the kpart-technology is used). You can for example store ocred parts of interesting publications. The fulltext search covers these files.
Another feature is the automatic generation of BibTex files.
Enhancements:
- circumvents a bug in the pdf-KPart.
- bugfix release for kde 3.2

livecoding 2.01

livecoding 2.01

Code reloading support library for Python more>>
livecoding 2.01 is yet another excellent utility for any developers It actually provides code reloading support library for Python.

There are two key facets this library:

  • The code reloading functionality it provides.
  • The bypassing of the standard module system with a custom one.

The standard module system is still there and continues to work with the custom one, but only the custom one is covered by the code reloading functionality of this library.

In order to decide whether you want the flexibility of the code reloading that this library provides, you need to decide whether you can live with writing the reloadable scripts within the custom module system.

Major Features:

  1. Automatic code reloading on script file changes.
  2. Less interruptions to developer workflow.
  3. Code reloading allows a running application to change its behaviour in response to changes in the Python scripts it uses. When the library detects a Python script has been modified, it reloads that script and replaces the objects it had previously made available for use with newly reloaded versions.
  4. As a tool, it allows a programmer to avoid interruption to their workflow and a corresponding loss of focus. It enables them to remain in a state of flow. Where previously they might have needed to restart the application in order to put changed code into effect, those changes can be applied immediately.

Requirements:

  • Python

cutoggvorbis 0.2

cutoggvorbis 0.2

cutoggvorbis is a small and fast command line Ogg/Vorbis editor. more>>
cutoggvorbis is a small and fast command line Ogg/Vorbis editor. The project lets you select sections of an Ogg/Vorbis interactively or via a timetable and save them to separate files without quality loss. It uses ogg123 for playback and even works with files bigger than 2GB.
For KDE you can copy cutoggvorbis.desktop to ${KDEDIR}/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus.
I am looking for someone to write a simple GUI for KDE or whatever!
It just needs to replace keystrokes with buttons for clicking, thats all.
Enhancements:
- An error at the beginning of the output file has been fixed, unfinished files can now be edited, and a leap in time detection while seeking has been added.
- Backward seeking is now five times faster.
- Code cleanups have been made.

NoScript 1.1.6.08

NoScript 1.1.6.08

NoScript offers extra protection for your Firefox. more>>
NoScript offers extra protection for your Firefox: NoScript allows JavaScript, Java (and other plugins) only for trusted domains of your choice (e.g. your home-banking web site).
This whitelist based pre-emptive blocking approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even unknown!) with no loss of functionality... Experts will agree: Firefox is really safer with NoScript.
Main features:
- this means that scripts are blocked for the current site
- Partially Allowed Icon - this means scripts are allowed for some of the URLs of the current site (it happens when there are multiple frames, and scripts are enabled in some of them and disabled in other ones)
- Allowed Icon - this means that script execution is allowed for the current site
- Globally Allowed Icon - this means that scripts are globally allowed (why did you decide to browse without any protection??!)

Mondo it backs up your GNU/Linux server or workstation to tape, CD-R, CD-RW, NFS or hard disk partition. In the event of catastrophic data loss, you will be able to restore all of your data [or as much as you want], from bare metal if necessary.

Mondo is in use by Lockheed-Martin, Nortel Networks, Siemens, HP (US and France), IBM, NASAs JPL, the US Dept of Agriculture, dozens of smaller companies, and tens of thousands of users.

Mondo is comprehensive. Mondo supports LVM, RAID, ext2, ext3, JFS, XFS, ReiserFS, VFAT, and can support additional filesystems easily: just e-mail the mailing list with your request. It supports adjustments in disk geometry, including migration from non-RAID to RAID. Mondo runs on all major Linux distributions and is getting better all the time. You may even use it to backup non-Linux partitions, such as NTFS.

Mondo is free! It has been published under the GPL (GNU Public License), partly to expose it to thousands of potential beta-testers but mostly as a contribution to the Linux community. I charge for 1-to-1 technical support to fund Mondos development.
