The SFSU Penaltybox is a solution for high network traffic in residence halls. It implements a bandwidth quota, penalizing the users who cause most of the network congestion.

When users go over their bandwidth quota in a time period their traffic is limited using a Packeteer PacketShaper for a certain period of time before they are let out from the penalty box.

The users will be blocked immediatly when they exceed their limit, and they will be blocked from that point on for how ever long you set your time period. (eg we have a 10 gb/week limit, so if they go over on day 3, they will be limited to 64kbps until day 10, they will be blocked for an entire week after they have exceed their limit).

MyPixmania is a software that eases the use of the MyPixmania.com website. MyPixmania.com Web site allows to store picture albums, and sells to customers the ability to send printed versions of these pictures.

Although the website offers specialized softwares for the Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X operating systems, nothing is available for users of other operating systems, particularly free systems like GNU/Linux.

Currently, the user of these systems is limited to a Web form on the MyPixmania.com website, which makes its use impractical, particularly when it comes to uploading a large number of pictures.

The MyPixmania software fills this gap, and while it was initially developed for the GNU/Linux system, its also perfectly usable with other operating systems.

Technically, MyPixmania is a set of Python scripts, that interacts with the MyPixmania website using the Curl library.

Currently, the supported operations are :

creation of an album ;
addition of pictures inside an album ;
listing of available albums ;
deletion of an album ;
fetch of an albums pictures.

Today, MyPixmania has three different interfaces :

a text interface, that offers all functionalities, perfect to upload a large number of pictures or to be used in other scripts ;
a graphical interface, which offers only a subset of all functionalities, but which has a nicer interface to view the contents of albums ;
a developer interface, for those who want to write other scripts that makes use of the internal library which interacts with the MyPixmania website.

ClockingIT was created for fun, not profit, using Ruby on Rails.
Why?
It was created to fill a gap that presented itself while working full time as a consultant. Managing several projects across multiple clients, all wanting reports on progress, and remembering what to do, for who, became a chore. Thus, ClockingIT was born after 6 days of intense learn-as-you-go Ruby on Rails. It has since received quite a few make-overs and rewrites, but the basic idea and vision remains the same.
After giving up on consulting, we kept on programming as Ruby on Rails is a fun platform, and ClockingIT had turned into a usable application others might want to use as well.
Who?
The people behind ClockingIT are Erlend and Ellen Simonsen, a married couple living in Oslo, Norway. Erlend does all the programming, and most of the feature design, while Ellen does the interface design, graphics and colors.
How?
Were keeping it free, as were hosting on our own server, out of our apartment. We already had the internet link and server in place from other projects so we have no running costs, other than our time.
