Scum of the Universe 1.0
Scum of the Universe is a space trading game that combines two genres: arcade and strategy. more>>
Scum of the Universe is a space trading game that combines two genres: arcade and strategy. On one side, its a classic vertical-scrolling space shooter game. On the other side, it is an adventure and strategy. You should choose whether youll be an independent space trader, firearms smuggler, fierce freedom-fighter or something in between.
Following the main storyline, you go through the galaxy from one planet to another. Space travel requires fuel, so you need to keep earning money to buy it. You can also buy various upgrades for your spaceship and weapons that affect the arcade part of the game. The storyline itself is not linear. There are also some points where youll need to make decisions that will determine your destiny.
For thousands of years, people of planet Xen have colonized the planets in their galaxy. As time went by, many colonies grew unhappy about their status, as everything was controlled by Xen. Some of them organized military units and declared independence. You can see the status of each planet by "Rebel Sentiment" indicator. Planets with RS higher than 50% are ruled by the Rebel government, and Rebel laws apply.
Trading firearms is legal on planets ruled by Rebels, as they need as much firepower as they can get. On the other hand, Empire forbid all the trading with firearms and other ground weaponry as they wish to maintain their military advantage. One of the ways to make a lot of money is to buy cheap guns at Empire planets and sell them for a lot of money on Rebel planets where demand is extremely high. But be careful as youll need to fight Empire fleet once they find out youre a smuggler.
Beside the raging war between Xen Empire and the rebels there is increased activity of alien species, who destroy human ships. The stronger alien activity, the more waves of alien ships youll need to defeat in each planets outer orbit. Some of the aliens you destroy may drop artifacts (big blue ones) which you can sell at any space station for 20credits a piece.

The Examiner 0.5
The Examiner is a forensic tool to disassemble binary executables. more>>
The Examiner is an application that utilizes the objdump command to disassemble and comment foreign executable binaries. This app was designed to analyze static compiled binaries but works ok with others. The intention is for forensic research but could also be used in general reverse engineering.
This program can only handle basic dissassembly. If the binary has been modified to resist debugging then the Examinier probably will not be able to analyze the code. Also the Examiner will not analyze live running code. This can be a good thing but if you need to look at code when it runs or deal with complicated disassembly you should probably use Fenris.
Main features:
- Automates objdump usage
- Can generate cross-reference files of functions, interrupts and other useful things
- Locates functions within the binary
- Understands the stack and comments on its state
- Can parse and understand the contents of the .rodata section
- Cross references .rodata calls and comments on them
- Locates .data pointer references to .rodata
- Provides an easy to read CALL syntax for comments
- Understands and looks up interrupts calls
- Utilizes Linux source headers to determine function names based on what interrupt is called
- Can differentiate all of the socketcall functions
- Can comment on some C like constants for function calls
- Separates functions based on ret calls
- Can recognize and attempts to decode UPX compressed binaries
- Works with TCT and Fenris dress utility
- Can detect crippled ELF executables and burneye executables
- Recognizes symbols and will cross-reference dynamic libraries
Enhancements:
- Has rudementary detection of burneye via 7350 sig.
- Can detect crippled ELF header files (optionally uncripple)
- Added a TUTORIAL file
- Modified default working dir to $HOMEexaminer-data
- Can cross-reference .data pointers to .rodata sections
- Now records pushl calls
- Fixed -H to dump headers instead of -R
- Added -o to specify an output file or STDOUT with -
- Added -c to specify a comment character
- Added a new util xhierarchy to print function call hierarchy

3D Spatialization of Sound
3D Spatialization of Sound is a Linux/X11 port of the 3D spatializer library from the CRC. more>>
3D Spatialization of Sound is a Linux/X11 port of the 3D spatializer library from the CRC.
This program creates "directional" stereo sound from mono source. CRC folks told me I shouldnt have raised the sampling frequency without adjusting other stuff.
Oh well. This was a proof-of-concept type project anyway. I think to get correct 3D effect, you need to drop sampling rate back to 11025.
To Build the X11 implementation:
1. make
2. cp audio-filter /usr/local/bin
3. mpg123 -m -s some_music.mp3 | audio-filter | aplay -S -s 44100 -f s16l -
audio-filter is implemented as a filter, it reads signed 16 bit mono input at 44100 khz from stdin, and outputs signed 16 bit stereo, 44100 khz output to stdout. You can replace mpg123 with any sound source generating signed 16 bit 44100 khz mono signal. "aplay" is a sound player utility which comes with ALSA linux sound driver. You can use "play" from the sox package, or "ampctl", or any other sound player that would read 44100 khz, signed 16 bit stereo raw data from stdin. For "sox" play script, you would replace "aplay" command line with "play -c 2 -f s -r 44100 -s w -t raw -"
If everything is good, a 640x480 window will come up, with some cryptic writing on the top, a filled circle with an arrow pointing right, and a empty circle slightly to the right of the circle with arrow.
NOTE, that just like in the original Windows implementation, the axiss are reversed. The arrow on the "head" is pointing "forward". So, in the default startup configuration, the sound is located in front of the listener. Moving the sound source "up" moves it to the left of the listener, and "down", to the right. You can visualize this well if you turn your monitor 90 degrees counter
clock wise.
The filled circle with an arrow is your "head"
The empty circle is the "sound source"
You can move the "sound source" around by clicking the mouse at any position in the window, or by clicking on the "sound source" circle, and dragging it to the desired position. Soundfield will be dynamically updated as you do this.
You can move the "head" by moving the mouse to desired position, and right-clicking. The "head" icon will move to the new position and soundfield will be updated.

Afghan Hound Quote of the Day Daemon 0.7.2
Afghan Hound Quote of the Day Daemon project is a TCP/UDP quote-of-the-day server. more>>
Afghan Hound Quote of the Day Daemon project is a TCP/UDP quote-of-the-day server.
Afghan Hound Quote of the Day Daemon uses both TCP and UDP port 17 to return a random quote from fortune(6) style quote files. It has performance benefits over other programs which use fortune(6) to source their quotes.
The server also includes the ability to limit the number of client connections per second. Client and benchmarking programs are included in the package.
Main features:
- RFC865 compatibility - The official standard for qotd (port 17) services.
- Only needs root if listening on ports lower than 1024, however it should drop root as soon as possible.
- Uses standard fortune(6) text-file, text-file.dat style quote files.
- All new code to read and create fortune files.
- Listens on both TCP and UDP user specifiable ports.
- Can limit returned quotes to lie in a max-size, min-size range.
- Can limit maximum number of connections per second independently on both TCP and UDP.
- Can log connections, optionally recording hostname and ident information.
- Logging can either be to a specified log file, or to syslog
- Handles rot13-encoded (offensive) quotes, which can be enabled or disabled.
- Many configuration items can be changed at run-time.
- Known to compile on Solaris 2.5 (Ultra SPARC) and Linux 2.2.16 (Intel and sparc32). (With gcc everywhere and Suns cc on Solaris.)
Enhancements:
- Bug fixes: signal.c:
- client.c: Added gcc __attribute__ thing to signal handlers, elimiates warning.
- Added F_NOTIFY to allow auto reloading if fortune files change.
