Leading::Zeros is a Perl module to defuse Perls octal number representation.

SYNOPSIS

This module offers some control over Perls insidious "leading-zero-means-octal" notation.

INTERFACE

If the module is loaded via a no:

no Leading::Zeros;

then any subsequent attempt to use an integer constant with a leading zero, causes an exception to be thrown. The intention is to prevent you from doing so by accident.
If the module is loaded via a use, like so:

use Leading::Zeros;

then it silently pretends that any octal value (say, 042) was really a decimal value (i.e. 42).

If the module is loaded with the special -warning flag:

use Leading::Zeros -warning;

then octal numbers are treated as usual (i.e. as octals), but a warning is issued. See below.

Intelligent Filesystem Guard is a tool that monitors information about changes in files and directories.

Intelligent Filesystem Guard can be used either for the detection of changes in important files (as an intrusion detection system guarding data against viruses and Trojan horses) or for guarding user data.

A large emphasis is put on monitoring files. One of the functions of this system is to tell what happened with the file according to a user query. The system is able to warn of any sort of change, such as modification, creation, erasure, or movement.

protector scans e-mail attachments in order to identify those that could (by nature of their type) contain viruses or other undesirable content, and replaces them with a warning message. Protector is designed to be used on a unix mail gateway server MS Windows clients by way of a POP3 service. Typically, protector blocks DOS or Windows executables, DLLS etc Files with double extensions like "picture.gif.exe" Visual basic (VB) scripts Word documents that contain macros unrecognised file types ... etc ...

Protector is NOT a virus scanner in the traditional sense: It does NOT scan attachments for virus signatures, but blocks or edits attachments that could contain viruses. So *.exe, *.vba etc attachments dont get through. This means that you dont have to keep protector up to date to stay protected against the growing tide of new viruses and worms.

Protector does not work by blocking listed types, but by blocking a set of listed types.

The logic employed by protector to determine the file types contained in attachments is based on a modified version of the "file" command, and a number of type-specific validation programs - it does not rely on the actual name of the file, or the "content-type" declared in the attachment header. It also looks inside ZIP, TAR and other archive formats, and checks the files contained in them.

Some types of files are allowed through only under certain conditions. The main example being that MS Word documents are blocked if they contain ANY macros, but allowed through otherwise.

Protector grew out of a need to protect a small network that I manage in my spare time from the dangers of e-mail borne viruses and trojans. A number of installations exist round the world and feed back from users has allowed me to improve the system - in terms of reliability, performance, ease of use and the breadth of file types "allowed through". Development is still underway, and a new release will be available shortly that allows a far larger set of file types through, allows scripts to be removed from attachments (eg: JavaScript can be removed from HTML files), and is significantly easier to tailor.

Viralator is a Perl script that virus scans HTTP/FTP downloads request on a UNIX server after passing through the Squid proxy server.
Even when I implemented virus protection for my network email server we still continued to get the odd virus. Most of the viruses came from people using free webmail accounts like Hotmail or Yahoo and downloading the infected attachments to their machines or through downloading junk.
Rather than block access to the users I decided to look at how we could better protect the network. I looked at a couple of different products both comercial and free but they were either too expensive or did not meet my needs.
That is how Viralator was born. Viralator Proxy Virus Scanner is licenced under the GPL.
Viralator should work in any UNIX system that uses Apache and Squid servers. We have reports about successful instalations on:

The original concept for Viralator came from the Viromat project. Without Viromat the Viralator project would not have had a starting point. We can also thank Ralph Meyer for badgering me into releasing the script under the GPL.

Netcount is a package for logging and displaying PPP network traffic on Linux machines. Logging is done via a small shell script which is called during the ip-up, ip-down and system startup processes and from cron, while analysis and printing is done by a program written in Python.
The display is highly customizable. You can select from different types of records as well as from different columns to print. netcount shows, among other things, network uptime, byte counts and transmission speeds (either as Tx and Rx bytes or summed up). Command line options also allow you to select from per-connection summaries as well as from daily and monthly summaries and from uptime and byte count percentages with respect to a daily and monthly total. These settings can be made permanent through the use of a configuration file which is written when using a simple command line option.
netcount uses the kernels ppp0 counter (found in /proc/net/dev), so packet filtering does not need to be installed. It is safe against this counters overflow, so there is no 2 or 4 GiB limit. It should work under any flavor of Linux, including other families than the x86 systems.

Enhancements:
- Makefile (final-words): If no "final-words" was created, an error was generated after successfull installation. Thanks to Iain Lea for pointing this out. Now a final-words file (which consists of a leading n, possibly followed by nothing) is always generated.

Perdition is a fully featured POP3 and IMAP4 proxy server. It is able to handle both SSL and non-SSL connections and redirect users to a real-server based on a database lookup. Perdition supports modular based database access. ODBC, MySQL, PostgreSQL, GDBM, POSIX Regular Expression and NIS modules ship with the distribution.
The API for modules is open allowing developers to write to allow access to any data store.
Perdition has many uses. Including, creating large mail systems where an end-users mailbox may be stored on one of several hosts, integrating different mail systems together, migrating between different email infrastructures, and bridging plain-text, SSL and TLS services. It can also be used as part of a firewall. The use of perditon to scale mail services beyond a single box is discussed in high capacity email.

F-Prot GUI is a graphical user interface for great (and free for individual users) command line antivirus called F-Prot.
F-Prot GUI is a very simple script but not featureless, I hope it will be useful.
