iconvircproxy 1.6.2

iconvircproxy 1.6.2

iconvircproxy is a proxy for IRC users who want to talk in different character set environments. more>>
iconvircproxy project is a proxy for IRC users who want to talk in different character set environments.

In an ideal world, everyone would use UTF-8 for text transmission. UTF-8 supports nearly all characters of all languages, including the thousands of ideographs from Chinese.

However, in the world we live in, people use different encodings. Finnish people use ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-15 or Windows-1252; Japanese people use ISO-2022-JP, SHIFT-JIS or EUC-JP; Polish people use ISO-8859-2, and so on. People using different encodings will see other peoples text as an unreadable mess of code.

This proxy is a solution for IRC users who want to be able to talk with everyone despite of their character set differences.

The primary audience of this program are the European IRC users who occassionally talk on Japanese channels. With the proxy, all you need is an IRC client that understands and speaks fluently UTF-8.

The proxy supports all the ISO-8859 family character sets, ISO-2022-JP, SHIFT-JIS Japanese encodings and the UTF-8 unicode encoding, and will transparently use them with the "in Rome, do like the Romans do" principle.

Note: As of version 1.4.2, UTF-8 is not the only supported client encoding, but it is still the only recommended one.

pfstools 1.6.2

pfstools 1.6.2

pfstools allows for reading, writing, manipulating and viewing high-dynamic range (HDR) images and video frames. more>>
pfstools project contains a set of command line (and one GUI) programs for reading, writing, manipulating and viewing high-dynamic range (HDR) images and video frames. All programs in the package exchange data using a simple generic file format (pfs) for HDR data. The concept of the pfstools is similar to netpbm package for low-dynamic range images.
pfstools come with a library for reading and writing pfs files. The library can be used for writing custom applications that can integrate with the existing pfstools programs.
pfstools offers also a good integration with a high-level mathematical programming language GNU Octave. pfstools can be used as the extension of Octave for reading and writing HDR images or simply to store effectively large matrices.
Note that pfs in not just another format for storing HDR images (and there are already quite a few of them). It is more an attempt to integrate the existing file formats by providing a simple data format that can be used to exchange data between applications.
Enhancements:
- matlab: pfsview can now display 2D cell arrays
- pfs library: quite serious bug in sRGB transforms fixed
- added: check for GLUT library (unix only)
- added: man page for pfsglview

Karbon14 1.6.1

Karbon14 1.6.1

Karbon is a vector-based drawing application for KOffice. more>>
Karbon is a vector-based drawing application for KOffice. The project allows artists to create complex drawings without losing image quality when zooming in on, or resizing the drawing. You can use Karbon to add finishing touches to diagrams created using Kivio or charts created using KChart. Graphic design ideas can be quickly and easily transformed into high quality illustrations with Karbon.
What makes a vector-based drawing application like Karbon different from a pixel-based drawing application like Krita?
In a vector drawing - such as the drawing shown above - your drawing is stored as geometric shapes such as lines and curves. When the drawing is resized, the image scales smoothly.
However, in a pixel-based drawing, your drawing is stored as many dots (pixels) in rows and columns. When you resize a pixel-based image, the dots will be enlarged. This can result in jagged edges known as pixelation and aliasing and thus the quality of the image will go down. Pixel-based drawings often have larger file sizes compared to simple vector drawings.
For example: Karbon is useful for creating cartoons drawings or editing clip art which often needs to be resized to fit in a document or on a poster. Krita is more suited to painting pictures or editing photographs.
To get started with Karbon quickly, you might want to try opening and modifying some of the images from the Open Clip Art Library.

PolyPuzzle 1.6.2

PolyPuzzle 1.6.2

PolyPuzzle project is a cute game, based on the original puzzle #0. more>>
PolyPuzzle project is a cute game, based on the original puzzle #0.

Poly Puzzle is my first original program to make use of Tks canvas widget. It was inspired by a plastic puzzle named Beat The Computer which came in an array of
sizes and loud colours.

It now has trays with polygons based on hexagons, squares and equilateral triangles. The new round tray is based on smooth triangles, and isnt quite as cute as
the original puzzle #0.

I had planned to incorporate a computer solution feature. This would be handy for the actual plastic game - which you have to put away at the end of the day - but
on the computer there are no little pieces to lose under the carpet ;>. More to the point - it would require quite a bit of programming / math!

Ajaqs 1.1.6.2

Ajaqs 1.1.6.2

Ajaqs is a Web app that organizes FAQs on a per-project basis. more>>
Ajaqs is a Web app that organizes FAQs on a per-project basis. Ajaqs projects is designed to be deployed under popular Web and application servers.
It aims to serve two purposes: to provide engineering groups a mechanism for consolidating and preserving in-house knowledge in connection to product development and usage, and to provide small companies with a Web interface for exposing searchable, internationalizable information related to products and services.
Main features:
- Serves up XHTML 1.0 (Transitional).
- Internationalizable front-end.
- Text-only front-end.
- Templatized front-end.
- Customizable styles using stylesheets.
- Back-end independent of database-vendor.
- Pooling of database connections for reuse.
- Can attach text or image to answers.
- Can associate several FAQs with a single project.
- Searchable FAQs.
- Role-based security access.
- Administrative front-end for editing or deleting users, projects, FAQs, questions, answers, and attachments.
Here are some key advantages of using Ajaqs:
- Flexibility. The end-user should be able to use any major commercial (or open-source) database on the market. Moreover, the end-user should be able to customize the look-and-feel of the front-end; this includes the ability to internationalize the application.
- Maintenance. Both external documentation (like this) and inline javadocs should explain how things work. Ive tried to write clean Java code so that developers who build on Ajaqs will have a clear, easily extensible starting point.
- Ease of Use. Installation is simple; you just have to create a .war file and drop it in the right directory/folder. The Ajaqs interface is text-based, and intended to provide easy access to search operations.
- Security. File system security issues are completely off-loaded to the Java security model (i.e., the Java sandbox) and whatever access-policy may be in place for the database. Ajaqs-specific security in connection with particular web content is off-loaded to the security model for the application server under use. Ajaqs-specific security that deals with end-users is role-based, and leverages Castors JDO mapping model to restrict, automatically, what data from the back-end some end-user can access.
Here are some disadvantages of using Ajaqs:
- Castor. Although this is a big design advantage, in practice it poses occasional problems, partly because of sketchy documentation.
- Non-trivial design. Ajaqs may be powerful, but it comes at a great price. As the list of technologies above indicates, it takes a well-versed Java developer to understand all the issues involved in making Ajaqs work properly.
Enhancements:
- The Ant build process now utilizes Jasper to pre-compile JSPs into the war file.

PasswordMaker 1.6.2

PasswordMaker 1.6.2

PasswordMaker is a small, lightweight, free, extension for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Flock. more>>
PasswordMaker project is a small, lightweight, free, extension for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Flock, and Yahoo! Widgets which creates unique, secure passwords that are very easy for you to retrieve but no one else. Nothing is stored anywhere, anytime, so theres nothing to be hacked, lost, or stolen.

How It Works:
You provide PasswordMaker two pieces of information: a "master password" -- that one, single password you like -- and the URL of the website requiring a password. Through the magic of one-way hash algorithms, PasswordMaker calculates a message digest, also known as a digital fingerprint, which can be used as your password for the website.

Although one-way hash algorithms have a number of interesting characteristics, the one capitalized by PasswordMaker is that the resulting fingerprint (password) does "not reveal anything about the input that was used to generate it." In other words, if someone has one or more of your generated passwords, it is computationally infeasible for him to derive your master password or to calculate your other passwords. Computationally infeasible means even computers like this wont help!
