miniCHESS is a chess game WindowMaker dockapp.

miniCHESS was born out of boredom. I warn you... if your a chess enthusiast and play a lot then please use xboard or some other chess gui.

Even though miniCHESS has that kinda cool factor, it does get hard on the eyes. I like using miniCHESS for games in which Im in no hurry to finish and go on for a couple days.

Sorry but miniCHESS has no save/restore features yet.

Usage:

miniCHESS has a variety of options:

-h help
-t play text game (def = mouse game)
-r more random moves by the engine
-a hard, engine will also think on your time (def = no)
-d n max search depth used by the engine (def = 29)
-c n max time the engine gets to make a move (def = inf)
-T n size of the transposition table (def = 150001)
-C n size of the cache table (def = 18001)
-k #color background color for a checkmated king (def = #ff0000)
-b #color background color for the black pieces (def = #000000)
-f #color foreground color for the black pieces (def = #ffffff)
-1 #color color for the dark squares (def = #c8c365)
-2 #color color for the light squares (def = #77a26d)

If you specify a search depth (-d) to (say) 4 ply, the program will search until all moves have been examined to a depth of 4. If you set a maximum time (-t) per move and also use the depth option, the search will stop at the specified time or the specified depth, whichever comes first.

Gnuchess is a cpu hog while its thinking. Be aware. When the hard option (-a) is specified then the engine thinks all the time and pins your cpu.

Also gnuchess can be a memory hog. Specifying the size of the transposition and cache tables will modify the memory used. See the memory usage excerpt from the gnuchess FAQ below.

White piece colors are the reverse of what is specified for the black pieces.

Qt version of the classic boardgame "checkers". KCheckers game is also known as "draughts".

Rules of play:
- In the beginning of game you have 12 checkers (men).
- The men move forward only. The men can capture:
- by jumping forward only (english rules);
- by jumping forward or backward (russian rules).
- A man which reaches the far side of the board becomes a king.
- The kings move forward or backward:
- to one square only (english rules);
- to any number of squares (russian rules).
- The kings capture by jumping forward or backward.
- Whenever a player is able to make a capture he must do so.
Enhancements:
- A bug that occurred in SuSE 9.3 when compiling with GCC 3.3 was fixed.
- Unused code was removed.

VDB Chinese Chess is a Chinese chess program which uses pictures instead of Chinese letters so people who arent Chinese can play it. VDB Chinese Chess supports 99 levels and different computer levels can play against each other.
Installation :
Step 1: Make sure that all necessary components are installed!
This program needs:
1. g++: Gnu c++ support including header files
2. xaw3d: 3D-extension for the Athena Widget Set if you cannot find it you can change xaw3d by xaw in src/Makefile.in but the program will not look so nicely
3. Standard Template Library
Actually this program will use only one header file for the function max(), that returns the maximum of two values. You can implement that yourself. 4. xpm: this is a library for icons in x- all board pieces are implemented with this library, this library is very common under X, so it should be included in your distribution 5. pthread: this is used for multithreading, sometimes also called pthreads, you might have to change this in your src/Makefile.in
Step 2:download this program and unzip it in the directory you want to run it. There is NO separate installation directory! tar xfz cchess.tar.gz

Rules of Chinese Chess:
Indeed, Chinese Chess is very similar to Chess but there are some differences according how to move your pieces on the board and the following:
1. You cannot exchange the pawn against some other piece if you reach the end of the board
2. There is no rochade and moving "en passant"
3. You lose the game also if you are stalemate
4. If both kings are on the same column there must be one piece between them
5. If there is three times the same position because of the same moves you must move different next time
6. The pieces are not black and white but red and black. Red moves first.
There are the following important locations:
The two palaces, each consists of nine fields marked by two diagonal lines.
The river: The area in the middle of the board, that is not interrupted by lines
The pieces on the board move the following way:
King: Can only move one field forward or to the side, not diagonal. Has to stay inside the palace
Pawn: Moves one field forward. If he is beyond the river he can also moves side wards
Rock: Moves one or more fields to the side, forward, backward but not diagonal
Cannon: Moves one or more fields to the side, forward, backward but not diagonal. Must always jump over one piece!
Horse: Moves one field straight, one field diagonal, cannot move over another piece.
Elephant: Moves exactly 2 fields diagonal, cannot move over the river
Mandarin: Has to stay inside the palace. Moves one field diagonal.
Enhancements:

AntiChess project is an anti-chess game.

AntiChess is an anti-chess game written in Java.

The goal is to get checkmated or lose all your pieces except your king to your opponent.

You must take your opponents pieces if you can.

It supports 2 player and 4 player games on the same board

VDB Janus Chess project is a chess game with a slight variation.

The table is 10x8 instead of 8x8 and every person has one additional piece, the Janus, which can move like a bishop and a knight.

This game is really an extension of ordinary chess. Both player have one additional piece, called Janus. The Janus can move like a knight and a bishop together, it also looks like a combination of knight and bishop.

At the beginning the Janus is located between knight and rock. There are two Janusses for every player so the field extends to 10x8. The Janus is the only piece that is able to checkmate the other king alone. All other rules are identically to chess.

Most of the interface is self-explanatory. But there are some points that should be explained.

If you play against the computer and want to take back your last move, it is easier to chose "Move - Last own". This returns to your last own move.

This program supports "Lazy drag and drop". If you press the middle button of your mouse, the icon is glued to the mouse pointer. You drop the icon with another click on the middle mouse button.

Pynakotheka is a simple python script which generates static HTML photo albums to be added to web sites or to be burnt in CDs.
It includes some templates, and its easy to create more.
The gallery can contain folders and/or pictures and the folders can contain other folders and/or pictures, recursively.
There are 4 views: folder, tree, thumbnails and photo detail (with or without exif info). You can even create your own templates easily.

Enhancements:
- This release uses Mako Templates instead of the Cheetah Templating System. HTML creation is much faster.
- Files with different encodings should be managed perfectly.

dlib C++ Library is a modern C++ library with a focus on portability and program correctness. The library is open source software and is licensed under the Boost Software License.
Main features:
- Everything is Design by Contract all the time. This means there is complete and precise documentation for every class and function. There are also debugging modes that check the preconditions for functions. When this is enabled it will catch the vast majority of bugs caused by calling functions incorrectly or using objects in an incorrect manner.
- Abstraction layers on top of operating system APIs. Specifically: directory navigation, TCP sockets, threading and graphical user interfaces.
- Very portable
- All non ISO C++ code is located in the OS abstraction layers which are as small as possible (about 9% of the library). The rest of the objects in the library are either layered on top of the OS abstraction layer or are pure ISO C++.
- Big/little endian agnostic.
- No assumptions are made about structure byte packing.
- No other packages are required to use the library. Only APIs that are provided by an out of the box OS are used.
- Many container classes. What makes these containers different from what can be found in the STL is how they move objects into and out of themselves. Rather than copying things around everything is moved around by swapping. This allows you to do things like have containers of containers of containers. They also have simpler interfaces. Additionally:
- There are many versions of each container with different performance characteristics so you have great flexibility in choosing exactly what you want.
- Many of the containers perform all their allocations through the memory_manger object and unlike the STL there is no requirement that different instances of the memory manager/allocator be able to free objects allocated from each other. This allows for much more interesting memory manager implementations.
- All containers are serializable.
- A command line parser with the ability to parse and validate command lines with various types of arguments and options.
- Various abstracted objects representing parts of data compression algorithms. Many forms of the PPM algorithm are included.
- A big integer object
- A thread safe logger object styled after the popular Java logger log4j.
- All new threads are pulled from a dynamically sized thread pool. So calls to create_new_thread() are fast.
- A fast matrix object implemented using the expression templates technique.
- A modular testing framework.
- A simple HTTP server object you can use to embed a web server into your applications
Enhancements:
- This release primarily includes updates to the matrix object, which now supports runtime sizing in addition to its previous compile-time dimensioning capabilities.
- Some more helper functions have also been added and minor bugs were fixed.
