ASK - Active Spam Killer 2.5.3
ASK is a spam killer. more>>
There are many traditional approaches to avoiding spam. The most common approach is based on "content-filtering": a program that attempts to classify incoming mails based on their content. This works partially, but in reality, its somewhat easy to find ways to avoid it.
ASK takes advantage of the fact that most spammers use invalid or fake "From:" address in their messages. When a new message arrives and the sender is unknown, ASK sends a "confirmation message" back, informing the sender that the original message has been queued, pending confirmation. When the sender confirms (a simple reply), ASK delivers the original message and adds the sender to a "whitelist". Further messages from this sender will be immediately delivered. It is also possible to ignore messages based on specific criteria, like senders email, subject and so on.
The goal of ASK is to block Spam mail before it is delivered to your mailbox. As we know, filtering alone is not effective since many times Spam mail contains no detectable elements.
ASK should be invoked from .forward (or .procmailrc if you are using procmail). The incoming message should be piped to ASK, which will be in charge of doing the actual delivery.
When ASK receives an email, if first checks the email address against your "ignorelist". If the address is listed there, its ignored completely. Then, the message is checked against your "blacklist". If its there, a nastygram is sent back to the sender with something like "Please stop sending me emails" in the Subject line.
The real fun happens when an email comes from an unknown user (i.e, someone not in any of your lists). In this case, ASK calculates the MD5 checksum of the message + a secret MD5 key (configured during installation time). This number is sent as part of a "confirmation message" back to the user. If the user replies to it, the confirmation number (in the subject) is recognized, the message is dequeued and delivered. If the user does not reply, the message remains queued until its removed.
The program has some intelligence to deal with specific cases. For instance, if a mail is sent to a non-existing user, the error message from mailer-daemon is ignored. This avoids seeing lots of "invalid user" messages in your inbox.
Another interesting "twist" is that messages coming from your own email address are never trusted. If the spammer knows your address he could easily fake your own address as the From: line. Messages coming from you will be identified by a "mailkey", a piece of string you always put on your message by default (maybe a piece of your own signature). Note that this has the added side-effect of allowing any messages coming in reply to a message you sent to someone (as long as that person keeps your "mailkey" in its quoted reply, a practice common these days).
The program never deletes any messages. For instance, if you send yourself a message without your mailkey (a possible Spam), it will be saved in a "Junk" mailfolder (you can specify this folder during the configuration).
DirIndexFaker 1.1
DirIndexFaker is a PHP script designed to produce fake Apache directory listings. more>>
People like the riaa, mpaa, and others are on a copyright enforcing rampage, destroying innocent victims along the way. They are using automated tools (web spiders) to find people hosting illegal content to sue. Sometimes the spiders catch innocent people in their web of evil.
Since our politicians think the RIAAa well-being is more important than ours, we must find a way to make the RIAA/MPAAs spiders too expensive to operate. Therefore our goals should be to:
- Slow the spider down, or get it stuck in a loop
- Provide soo many false positives, that sorting the actual infringers from the innocent is too expensive to allow the copywrong police to continue
These things are what a honeypot, or tarpit is designed to do. There are several available RIAA/MPAA spider trapping scripts currently available, but they all have unacceptable limitations (either requirements are too high, or they take an unacceptable toll on your server).
What was needed was a script which could generate fake apache index pages, but with links to large files with copyrighted sounding names. The server operator should not have to have root, nor should it waste excessive disk space for the server operator, IE - the files should be generated by the script, and not actually stored on the servers disk. This is what DirIndexFaker does!
The best existing script I could find which came close to meeting these criteria was the DMCA Bot Killer , but it had several problems:
- It requires the files to be generated beforehand with a perl script, the code is in the source, but commented out and a little wonky.
- It does not look like an apache index page, it looks suspicious, the **AAs spiders could be easily modified to detect this.
- It requires a list of filenames to use when generating our warez index. This list is loaded from a server at every invocation. This is innefficient, and error-prone.
So DirIndexFaker is a fixed version of the DMCA Bot Killer.
Usage:
Simply extract the contents of the .zip file to a subfolder under your PHP enabled webservers document root, then place a link to that subfolder somewhere on your site where bots can see it, and people cannot. One way to hide the link from humans is with CSS.
Note: You may be tempted to keep the search engines away with your robots.txt file, but is is well known that the RIAA is using the search engines to find infringing content, so this is not a good idea.
Enhancements:
- This release adds the ability to slow down RIAA/MPAA bots with a usleep call.
- This is enabled by default, but can be disabled by commenting out a line at the top of index.php.
- The bottom row has been fixed to make server info match the actual server version running on your host.
- The random seed has been changed so that filenames/sizes will only change once a day.
- This makes it harder to detect as a fake.

Koinkoin 0.3.1
Koinkoin is a chat application for KDE. more>>
History:
At the beginning was the Web. Then came Linux, and Slashdot came with it. This is when a small group of french OSS users/coders created Linuxfr, sort of a french Slashdot.
It had one killer-feature : a web-based chat (1). It is web-based but also has an xml file that is called backend file. A first application appeared that could display and automatically reload that backend. It allowed posting too.
Then other of these chats and other clients appeared. Those clients were called coincoins, referring to the sound made by a duck in french. I told you this was almost a french thing.
Koinkoin is a coincoin for KDE.

eZ region 1.1.4
eZ region provides updated eZpublish modules that provide Regions/States. more>>
eZ region is a PHP class and an updated set of eZ publish modules that provide support for regions or states to eZ publishs eZ address and eZ user modules.
eZ region is not a killer app, but it made eZ publish one for me!
eZ region provides a lookup table of what some
call regions or states, depending on the country.
eZ region is an added dependacy to eZ address.
eZ region was based off the eZ country module.
eZ regions are each associated with an eZ country.
eZ region design is dependant on the eZ address and eZ country modules.
eZ region can be used in at least the following ways:
Default - Providing ezuser/user/userwithaddress with a region or stat list.
Requiring only eZ address, and eZ user .
Trade - Providing eztrade/user with a region list included in the trade transaction.
Requiring eZ address, eZ user and eZ trade.
Note: eZ region 1.1.4 does not contain the eZ trade user
functions to meet the trade use dependancy, though future releases (1.1.5) will.
International Regions / States:
eZ region can be used to support non-US States.
Only states from the United States of America are included in eZ region 1.1.4.
Regions from any country can be used in conjunction with U.S. states.
The missing dependancy for other regions is a list of
South American and European regions and some sql additions.
All countries have regions in some fashion or style.
A fair amount of North America has states. Other countries
Canada, Mexico, South & Central America & Europe use other names to lable their regions.
Users from other countries can use eZ region by populating
the eZAddress_Region table with a list of regions/states/provinces associated to their countrys ez country ID.
Note: International users feel free to contact me regarding,
including your countrys regions in eZ region.

KK 0.1
KK is a very simple PHP script that displays an ASK (Active SPAM Killer) queue and executes ASK queue commands. more>>
KK requires the ASK queue to be imported into a MYSQL database, which is achieved with a simple bash script.
KK lacks user authentication, as it isnt targeted for large amount of users. Instead, it identifies users by using a simple numeric code. This may be improved in future releases.
User Instructions:
Once installed, KK can be accessed by typing your URL including your secret code. For example:
http://julian.coccia.com/kk/index.php?code=348484839843483948
(note that the secret code is defined in the configuration section of index.php)
Whitelist: Moves the email message to your inbox, and adds the recipient to your ASK whitelist
Inbox: Simply moves the email message to your inbox
X: Deletes the message from your ASK queue
KK on a recipient: Deletes all messages from that sender, and adds the sender to your ASK ignorelist (further messages from that sender will simply be ignored).
KK on a subject: Deletes all messages with that subject. It is usual to receive multiple SPAM messages at once with the same subject. This doesnt add the recipients to your ASK ignorelist in order to avoid unnecessary list grow (they are usually inexistent, randomly-generated email addresses)
All messages including TEXT are stinky KK: Looks for a pattern on every message subject, and silently deletes all matches, without adding senders to the KK ignorelist.
All messages are KK: Silently deletes all messages without adding senders to the KK ignorelist.
