KDE is a powerful Free Software graphical desktop environment for Linux and Unix workstations. more>>
KDE is a powerful Free Software graphical desktop environment for Linux and Unix workstations.

It combines ease of use, contemporary functionality, and outstanding graphical design with the technological superiority of the Unix operating system.

KDE is a network transparent contemporary desktop environment for UNIX workstations. KDE seeks to fill the need for an easy to use desktop for Unix workstations, similar to the desktop environments found under the MacOS or Microsoft Windows.

We believe that the UNIX operating system is the best operating system available today. In fact UNIX has been the undisputed choice of the information technology professional for many years. When it comes to stability, scalability and openness there is no competition to UNIX. However, the lack of an easy to use contemporary desktop environment for UNIX has prevented UNIX from finding its way onto the desktops of the typical computer user in offices and homes.

UNIX dominates the server market and is the preferred computing platform for computing professional and scientists. Without UNIX the internet would not be. But UNIX did not address the needs of the average computer user.

This fact is particularly unfortunate since a number of implementations of UNIX (Debian GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD etc.) are freely available on the internet. All of which are of exceptional quality and stability.

KDE The Desktop Environment

With KDE there is now an easy to use contemporary desktop environment available for UNIX. Together with a free implementation of UNIX such as GNU/Linux, UNIX/KDE constitutes a completely free and open computing platform available to anyone free of charge including its source code for anyone to modify. While there will always be room for improvement we believe to have delivered a viable alternative to some of the more commonly found and commercial operating systems/desktops combinations available today. It is our hope that the combination UNIX/KDE will finally bring the same open, reliable, stable and monopoly free computing to the average computer user that scientist and computing professionals world-wide have enjoyed for years.

KDE The Application Development Framework

Authoring applications under UNIX/X11 used to be an extremely difficult and tedious process. KDE recognizes the fact that a computing platform is only as good as the amount of first class applications available to the users of that particular platform. In view of these circumstances the KDE Project has developed a first rate compound document application framework, implementing the latest advances in framework technology and thus positioning itself in direct competition to such popular development frameworks as for example Microsofts MFC/COM/ActiveX technology. KDEs KParts compound document technology enables developers to quickly create first rate applications implementing cutting edge technology.

KDE The Office Application Suite

Leveraging the KDE application development framework a great number of applications have been built for the K Desktop Environment. A selection of those applications is contained in the KDE base distribution. At this moment KDE is developing an office application suite based on KDEs KParts technology consisting of a spread-sheet, a presentation application, an organizer, a news client and more. KPresenter, KDEs presentation application was successfully used at many presentations.

KSpline is a three parts library which supplies spline functions.
The library contains three parts:
A spline class. This class is invisible, it is used to store the coords and calculates the spline polynoms. Theoretical it can be used outside of KDE.
A visual Editor. This editor requires an initialisized spline class and works as an interface to this spline. Nearly all spline functions can be adjusted with this editor.
A demo program. This program creates two splines. They can be modified either manually (directy calls to the spline functions) or visuell with the editor.
System requirements:
- V 0.31 : KDE 3.0x (not tested with KDE 3.1x)

KCad is a screensaver for KDE 3, based on KCad 1.1 (a old screensaver for Kde 2.2). KCad is a KDE Control+Alt+Canc screensaver.

KCAD is a very simple screensaver for KDE. In fact, it may remind you of certain OTHER evil screensavers. This was designed so that you can "trick" your Boss (in the BOFH sense) into thinking that youre running Windows NT on your workstation/server, even if you are running (insert UNIX clone name here). By default, it looks very KDE-ish, but you can make it look more convincing by putting the following text into the file $HOME/.kde/share/config/kcad.kssrc.

Installation:

./configure --prefix=/path/to/kde --with-qt-includes=/path/to/qt-includes
make all
su
make install
exit

NOTE:
- KUbuntu prefix is /usr

Kurd 0.1

Kurd 0.1

KDE Universal Remote Desktop has the goal of becoming an extendable remote desktop control client frontend. more>>
KDE Universal Remote Desktop has the goal of becoming an extendable remote desktop control client frontend.

While Kurd is developed using KDevelop 3.0 (Gideon) on a Gentoo 1.4 system running KDE 3.1, the interface is generic enough that any KDE 3.x version should work. No testing outside of my development system has been done at this point.

The recommended backends for Kurd are:

rdesktop >= 1.2.0
tightvnc >= 1.2.8

I was inspired to create Kurd based on a lack of a rdesktop front end under KDE. I wanted something similar to tsclient, which is a GTK+ based front end. After much searching for a KDE tool, I discovered KRdesktop by Mattias Douhan. KRdesktop was unfortunately not exactly what I was looking for. I used the appearance of KRdesktop to create the onfiguration dialog of Kurd, so I wish to give credit where it is due.

Konserve 0.10.3

Konserve 0.10.3

Konserve is a small backup application for the KDE 3.x environment. environment. more>>
Konserve is a small backup application for the KDE 3.x environment. It lives in the system tray and is able to create backups of several directories or files periodically.
Konserve uses standard KDE network transparency to upload your backups to wherever you want (for example a ftp server). It is also possible to restore an incidently deleted file or directory from a backup file with just one mouse click.
It supports drag and drop and provides a wizard that helps you with the first steps in using Konserve.
Installation:
See file INSTALL for the detailed installation instructions. Please note that this program _expects_ to be installed in the standard KDE directory structure. If it is not it wont load its icons and the documentation correctly. One way to make sure Konserve will be installed in the right place is to use configure in the following way:
./configure --prefix=$(kde-config --prefix)
make uninstall removes all files of Konserve installed by make install except those directories that are considered standard directories of the KDE directory structure.
Enhancements:
- Konserve now respects an interval of several days between two backups
- Backing up directories works again
- Creating new backup profiles with one file as the source and one file as the destination fixed
- Updated documentation

KVBA 0.6.3

KVBA 0.6.3

KVBA is a VisualBoy Advance frontend for KDE. more>>
A frontend for VisualBoy Advance, a Nintendo GameBoyAdvance emulator using SDL. The first versions was qt-dependent, instead the new is better integrated in KDE and so depends on it.

It has a dialog for all the settings of the emulator (by command line), and a favorites tab for the most played roms. My TODO list in the package is quite blank, but this is because Im not the time to actually work a lot on it, the feature Im taking a look for is custom options for favorites, but I need to take a look best for them.

Important note! KVBA 0.6.1 and future versions will need KDE 3.2, instead KVBA 0.6 and earliers might work also on earlier KDE versions.

It also has a partially-working keypad configuration option.

Important! I stopped maintaining this app. I have no more time for develop it as I wish, so Im simply giving up.

KIconDialog++ 0.3

KIconDialog++ 0.3

KIconDialog++ is an improved icon dialog for KDE. more>>
KIconDialog++ is an improved icon dialog for KDE. This is just a preview edition, but the source code is more or less complete. It even includes a test application.
If for some strange reason you wish to build it, you must manually edit the makefile, seeing as it is not yet autotooled. See README, BUGS.
This is only a prototype. It is meant to be run directly. It is binary compatible with KDE 3 as AFAIK. To build it, you must manually edit the Makefile, run make, and then run kicondialogtest.
Enhancements:
- Fixed some of the annoyances with the initial GUI.
- Scale down non-system icons that are larger than requested size.
- Change lockUser and lockcustomDir parameters to lockContext and lockBrowse, respectively, because that is more descriptive of what they currently do.
- KIconButton supports all options of KIconDialog, including customDir, lockContext, and lockBrowse.
- Full-featured testbed, KIconTester.
