K12LTSP is based on RedHat Linux and the LTSP terminal server packages. K12LTSP is easy to install and configure.
Once installed K12LTSP lets you boot diskless workstations from an applications server.
Since all applications run on the terminal server, you can use older computers as low-maintenance diskless clients.
Enhancements:
- Still looking for the perfect Christmas gift for the spouse? K12LTSP 6.0.0 is now available for all of your gift-giving needs!" Whats new in this release? "K12LTSP 6.0.0 is based on Fedora Core 6, with a large number of changes including: LTSP 4.2 update 4; a bunch of packages from Fedora Extras; hundreds of updated FC6 packages; a handful of K12LTSP packages, just to spice things up. This release of K12LTSP is slightly different than past releases in that there is no specific LTSP install option. If you want do a normal Fedora Core 6 install from K12LTSP 6, simply uncheck the LTSP package group. The Education package group has been split up into two groups.

VULCAN 6.0.0

VULCAN 6.0.0

VULCAN project provides computational fluid dynamics analysis. more>>
VULCAN project provides computational fluid dynamics analysis.
VULCAN (Viscous Upwind aLgorithm for Complex flow ANalysis) offers computational fluid dynamics for subsonic speed through hypersonic turbulent reacting and non-reacting flows on a variety of serial and parallel computational platforms.
The computational cost of propulsion flow analysis is reduced through the use of special turbulent wall treatments, multi-grid methods for elliptic and space marching schemes, and conditioning of the governing equations to reduce numerical stiffness.
Physical modeling capabilities are improved through the inclusion of models for compressibility, Reynolds stress anisotropies, turbulent diffusivity, finite rate chemistry, and turbulence/chemistry interaction effects.
VULCAN can simulate two-dimensional, three-dimensional, or axi-symmetric multi-block problems.
Enhancements:
- This release adds logic to force the correct asymptotic behavior of the turbulence kinetic energy and the turbulence frequency (omega) for surface cell y+ values that are below the log layer portion of the boundary layer.
- It adds the output of reference stagnation conditions and dynamic pressure.
- There are numerous bugfixes, code cleanups, and fixes for setting initial conditions.
- There are minor GUI enhancements.

SLAX 6.0.0 RC6

SLAX 6.0.0 RC6

SLAX is a small bootable CD containing the Linux operating system. more>>
SLAX is a small bootable CD containing the Linux operating system. SLAX distirbution runs Linux directly from the CD (or USB) without installing.
The Live CD described here is based on the Slackware Linux distribution and is downloadable from this website as an ISO image.
The primary goal of SLAX is to provide a wide collection of useful software while keeping the cds image small enough to be written to a 185 MB CD-R(W) medium (small 8 cm CD). SLAX boots directly from the CD or USB devices and it provides a full featured Linux operating system.
All your available partitions and data storage devices (CD-ROM, USB storage devices, etc.) should be recognized at boot and should be mounted to /mnt/xx. As an example, "disc0part1" may be assigned to the first partition on your primary hard drive, "disc1part1" for your USB storage device, or "cdrom0" for your CD-ROM drive. SLAX will never write anything to the mounted devices. Mounting is safe and does not change the data.
After booting, you should be able to login as a "root", with the password "toor"; both without quotes, of course.
When logged in, you have many options. At the shell prompt, you may start Midnight Commander (type "mc" to the console), play some music from your hard drive (type "play /mnt/path/file.mp3"), adjust your audio volume (type "alsamixer"), configure IP address (type "netconfig") or browse web pages with the text-based browser (type "lynx http://url").
To start the graphical environment included with SLAX, type "gui" (for graphical user interface). It will attempt to autoconfigure your graphics card, monitor, keyboard and mice, and if successful it will run an X session with KDE. Im pretty sure that you will know how to get around at this point. :-) Use "guisafe" instead of "gui" for safe-mode (VESA framebuffer) without autodetection.
In the unfortunate case your mouse doesnt work, try to move it for a few seconds to see if it will be autodetected. If it isnt, shut down Xwindow (press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) and start it again. If this wont help then you are using something I have not included in the autoconfiguration process (COM2 mouse?). If you are comfortable with bash, or you atleast understand how to make your favorite mouse function under Linux, try to modify the symbolic link /dev/mouse manually.
If you dont like the autoconfigured screen resolution, refresh rate, or the K Desktop Environment, start "gui" with some additional options. Try for example "gui 800x600 60", where 800x600 is the desired screen resolution and 60 is the desired refresh rate. Fluxbox is one of the other window managers included and may be called with "guifast" or "gui fluxbox". In any event, type "gui --help" for more information.
All scripts and source code are available and can be used to build your own Live CD.
SLAX is available as an ISO image of the CD. It fits on small 8cm CD-R(W). Burn it with your favorite cd-writing software and then boot from the CD.
You might want to check your BIOS to assure its set to boot the CD prior the disc.
SLAX CD contains:
- Linux Kernel 2.4.28-pre4 with SATA support
- X.org 6.8.1
- KDE 3.3.1
- KOffice 1.3.3
- KDE games
- MPlayer 1.0pre5 with KPlayer
- kopete ICQ/AIM/Y!/IRC
- midnight commander
- rdesktop (rscp in KDE)
- hotplug support
- cdrtools
- k3b burning GUI for KDE
- mutt email client
- wget
- and much more...

JCards project is a free Java application designed to store and manage data in any format that the user defines. more>>
JCards project is a free Java application designed to store and manage data in any format that the user defines. Instead of having multiple applications to manage passwords, music databases, shopping lists, etc.
JCards allows the user to define a database that contains the fields they want and to customise it in many ways. This is all accomplished via an easy to use interface that requires no understanding of SQL or any other database jargon; in effect JCards is a front-end on to a flat-file database.
JCards was initially developed to run on a Sharp Zaurus SL-5x00 PDA, but will also run on any PocketPC PDA that has a JVM installed.
Main features:
- Define multiple databases
- Define the fields that you want
- Define categories (drop down lists)
- Counters

Independence 6.0.0.8

Independence 6.0.0.8

Independence is not just one of these commercial distributions who have been appearing daily for the last months. more>>
Independence is not just one of these commercial distributions who have been appearing daily for the last months. It aims at being a distribution allowing the users to make hear their voice in distribution design.

It is built by volunteers who no longer accept having an aristocracy of distribution designers providing solutions who have little relation to the problems faced by us, Linux users. It is built by people who dont accept that present distributions time and again neglect two areas who are vital for Linux future: the desktop and the personal computer.

Software included in Independence:

This is the selection of software that we think to be useful. And even those packages that do originate from the RedHat distribution are often modified to serve the end-users needs better.

Here, you will find a short explanation of the packages we provide, that are either a special remake from RedHat packages, or that are not derived from RedHat packages at all - our very own packages.

ClanLib: Game library, I will include ClanBomber with it.
FileRunner: a filemanager reminding Amigas. It can also act as an FTP client.
Giram: Modeller who uses POV as raytracer. Linux is supposed to be fun.
GnoSamba: Makes easier to config Samba
GTk-Perl: used by Independences Gimp
Hermes: provides MMX acceleration to the ClanLib and SDL libraries.
LinPopUp: allows sending and getting WinPopUp messages. For instance a Samba printer server could notify the user when the job is finished, alternatively a Linux user printing through an NT or Samba server will be avle to know when his output has been printed.
MPEG: An MPEG encoder and decoder.
Mesa: 3D libray used by various programs in Indy
OpenPTC: needed for the game libraries.
SDL: Indys second game library.
Timidity++: Midi sound player.
VNC: With it you can display on Linux applications running on Windows or Macs. Or the opposite.
VNC-alien: This is the part of VNC who will run on Windows or Macs.
Visual-Tcl: IDE and GUI builder for TCL/TK. One of Indys goals is to get that Windows people develop on Linux.
Wav-plugin: A Wav plugin for netscape.
XFree86 (Indy): This is obsolete. Indy had a patched XFree supportng more cards than RedHat, now RedHat has cauight up howver Indys XFree had the hooks for running XFCE in addition to Gnoime and KDE. However I dont think I will be able to add XFCE so I will put the new XFree in the updates section (we will use 3.3.6 against RedHats 3.3.5)
Xconfigurator (Indy): The XF86Config built by RedHat assumes the user is smart enough to nevver shutdown the font server. I find that making a distribution so frail to user error is unacceptable, so Indys configurator geerates a config file whho aloows X to be more tolerant of user errors.
aalib: Needed by Indys gimp.
abisuite: Wysywyg word processor able to read MS word files.
acroread: Adobes PDF reader, better quality than xpdf and able to read files xpdf chokes upon.
anacron: Indy does not assume that every Linux user and specially personal isers will kepp their boxes powered up 24 hours a day. Anacron takes care of doing your cron jobs (jobs that are automatically done from time to time) in such a way that your computer can be put on and off whenever you like.
atalkconf: Graphical configurator for netatalk (Apple Talk server).
autofs: (Indy) Indy was the first distrib relieving the user of the chore of mounting CDROMs. This was unacceptable on workstations.
blender: A complete tool for graphical creation.
cbb: Check book balancer. I have seen much too often people complaining they had to keep Windows due to lack of a Quicken like program. We asumme that many Linux users use it at home and that means they need programs in this vein.
cdda2wav: Reading audio data from CDs and making WAv files of it.
cooledit: Nice X editor.
etcskel (Indy): This contains the files wgho will be placed in the home directory of a newly created user. Indy puts some tricks of its own in this files/
gaim: Taliking to people using AOLs instant messaging service.
gdm (Indy): This is specific due to stupid copyright reasons: it displays RedHat logo.
gfcc: Allows easy configuration of masquerading and similar tricks you can do with ipchains. Can be useful in corporations but also for people with two computers linked by a LAN at home
gimp 1.1.14: For the artist sleeping in each user. This version is supposed to be for developers but I found stable and leagues ahead of the old gimp 1.0 shipped in RedHat..
gimpdoc-pdf: This is version 2 of the manual. RedHat uses HTML for the Gimp manual, Indys uses PDF due to the far graeter quality of the output. In addition some chapters of the manual would not display on Netscape unless you had _at least_ 64 megs of memory.
gltt: This is a library who will no longer be needed after we drop mooonlight, but the demo is so nice I will keep it in the distrib hoping people will create programs with it.
gnomeicu: ICQ client.
gphoto: Downloading images from electronic cameras and making some common manipulatins like removing the red eyes effect.
grip: CD player and ripper.
gtk--: C++ interface for GTK+
gxtar: A Gnome front end to tar, gzip, bzip2 archives.
ibtk: For ATI TV cards.
initscripts (Indy): Indy provides for automatic activation of network daemons when a PPP link is brought up. Also Indy is smarter and more robust than RedHAt respective to an uninstalled gdm, kdm. These tricks and perhaps some more are provded through this packege.
install-sendmail: Easy configuration of sendmail. We want the user being able to ask for help if something goes wrong.
kdebase (Indy): Again there is alittle Indy trick making things easier for the user.
kdevelop: IDE for UNix. If I have tiime to build it we will ship Code Crusader instead
killustrator: I wanted a vector drawing program but I still doubt between this and sketch. Anyone willing to compare them?
klyx: Nearly wysywyg word processor.
knetmon: You really need it if you have windows boxes around you. People who have never been in this situation include Gniomba instead. :-)
kvoice: Voice utility for modems
kwintv: Watch TV
lesstif: Library replcng Motif. Intended for Ted but some of the Motif apps we have could be recompiled with it.
libwmf: needed for abisuite.
lilo (Indy): Indys LILO tells you how to get out of trouble.
lincity: Game.
lokkit: Instant protection against the scum of the Internet. Indy does not assume the user has an experienced sysadmin at hand or is sitting behind a firewall: we have heard of something called home users.
loser: Game. Far too fast when the box has been optimized by Cobra.
lpe: A reasonable editor with online help for people who have to fix a box before having time to learn VI. Indys installs it in a such way it is available in the most desperate situations.

libmiASMaELF 0.0.1

libmiASMaELF 0.0.1

libmiASMaELF is a library for generating relocatable object files that conform to the ELF format. more>>
libmiASMaELF is a library for generating relocatable object files that conform to the ELF format.

libmiASMaELF library has no complex class hierarchy, hence it is extremly easy to use, unlike most other libraries that accomplish the same task. Documentation and examples are provided to demonstrate the use of the library.

< b >How does one use the library?< /b >

/* hello.c */
#include < iostream >
#include < vector >
#include "libmiasmaelf.h"

int main(void )
{
char text[] = {
xB8, x04, x00, x00, x00, // mov eax, 4
xBB, x01, x00, x00, x00, // mov ebx, 1
xB9, x00, x00, x00, x00, // mov ecx, myvariable
xBA, x0E, x00, x00, x00, // mov edx, 14
xCD, x80, // int 0x80
xB8, x01, x00, x00, x00, // mov eax, 1
xCD, x80 // int 0x80
};

char data[] = {
x48, x65, x6C, x6C, x6F,
x2C, x20, x57, x6F, x72,
x6C, x64, x21, x0A
}; //Hello,World!

vector< char > vtext(&text[0], &text[29]);
vector< char > vdata(&data[0], &data[14]);
miasmaELF obj;

obj.InitializeELFHeader();
obj.InitializeSymbolTable();

obj.AddNewSection(".shstrtab",SHT_STRTAB, 0,0,0,0,0,0);
obj.AddNewSection(".text", SHT_PROGBITS,6,0,0,0,16,0);
obj.AddNewSection(".data", SHT_PROGBITS,3,0,0,0,16,0);
obj.AddNewSection(".symtab", SHT_SYMTAB, 0,0,
obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_STRTAB, ".strtab"),
0,
4,sizeof(Elf32_Sym));

obj.AddNewSection(".rel.text",SHT_REL,0,0,
obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_SYMTAB),
obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_PROGBITS, ".text"),
4,sizeof(Elf32_Rel));

obj.AddContents(vtext, obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_PROGBITS,".text"));
obj.AddContents(vdata, obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_PROGBITS,".data"));

obj.AddSymbol("_start",0,0, STB_WEAK, STT_FUNC,
obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_PROGBITS, ".text"));
obj.AddSymbol("myvariable",0,0, STB_GLOBAL, STT_OBJECT,
obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_PROGBITS, ".data"));

obj.AddRelocationEntry(11, obj.ReturnSymbolIndex("myvariable"),
R_386_RELATIVE,
obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_REL, ".rel.text"));

obj.PrepareFile();
obj.WriteFile("hello.o");
}

The library makes extensive use of vectors - a data structure that is a part of the Standard Template Library. We first create the machine language equivalents of every instruction and populate the vectors accordingly.

We then initialize the ELFHeader, the SymbolTable Initialization follows next. This is done after defining an object of type miasmaELF.

We then go on to initialize individual sections. The function

obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_PROGBITS, ".text")

is used when one wants to obtain the SectionIndex of a given section. We find this function helps greatly in linking the various structures that are described in elf.h. Here, it is used in building the section header of a particular section. It is imperative that the user of the library must have a general idea of the various structures that are involved.

We then invoke

obj.AddContents(vtext, obj.GetSectionIndexOfType(SHT_PROGBITS,".text"));

which add the contents to the text section. The 2nd argument to AddContents is the section that we are referring to. In this case it is the .text section, and from our example the Index=3.

We employ a similar technique to add Symbols and Relocation Entries. To finally write the file one must first must prepare it by invoking the function PrepareFile(...), and only then invoke WriteFile(FileName)

To compile hello.c one must link it with libmiasmaelf.o

Device::TNC 0.03

Device::TNC 0.03

Device::TNC is a Perl module that acts like a generic interface to a TNC. more>>
Device::TNC is a Perl module that acts like a generic interface to a TNC.

This module implements a generic interface to a Terminal Node Controller (TNC).

It loads sub classes that provide the low level interface for the appropriate TNC to be used and provides higher level methods to return frames of data to the user is human readable form.

SYNOPSIS

use Device::TNC;
my $tnc_type = KISS;
my %tnc_config = (
port => ($Config{osname} eq "MSWin32") ? "COM3" : "/dev/TNC-X",
baudrate => 9600,
warn_malformed_kiss => 1,
raw_log => "raw_packet.log",
);
my $tnc = new Device::TNC($tnc_type, %tnc_config);
die "Error: Something went wrong connecting to the TNC.n" unless $tnc;

while (1)
{
my $data = $tnc->read_frame();
my $repeaters = join ", ", @{$data->{ADDRESS}->{REPEATERS}};
my $info = join "", @{$data->{INFO}};
print "From: $data->{ADDRESS}->{SOURCE} ";
print "To: $data->{ADDRESS}->{DESTINATION} ";
print "via $repeatersn";
print "Data: $infon";
}
new()
my $type = "KISS";
my %tnc_data = { option => value };
my $tnc = new Device::TNC($type, %tnc_data);

The new method creates and returns a new Device::TNC object that can be used to communicate with a Terminal Node Controller (TNC) of the type passed.

The method requires that the first passed argument be the type of TNC to connect to. This will try and load the appropriate module for the TNC type.
The subsequent options are passed to the module that is loaded to connect to the desired TNC.

For more details on these options see the module documentation for the TNC type.

read_frame()
my $frame_data = $tnc->read_frame();
my %frame_data = $tnc->read_frame();

This method reads a HDLC frame from the TNC and returns a structure as either a hash or a hash reference that contains the fields of the frame.

The structure of the returned data is like the following.

{
INFO => [
/, 0, 6, 4, 6, 5, 8, h, 3, 3, 5, 0, ., 0, 0,
S, \, 1, 5, 1, 1, 2, ., 0, 0, E, O, 2, 2, 6,
/, 0, 0, 0, /, A, =, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
],
PID => F0,
CONTROL => {
POLL_FINAL => 0,
FIELD_TYPE => UI,
FRAME_TYPE => U
},
ADDRESS => {
DESTINATION => APT311,
REPEATERS => [
WIDE1-1,
WIDE2-2
],
SOURCE => VK2KFJ-7
}
}

While developing this module I only received U (UI) type frames and so development of the code to work with I and S frames didnt really progress. If anyone wants to read I or S frames please let me know and Ill have a look at implementing them. Please create a KISS log of the data and email it to me.

They will be capable of accessing any XDM server presenting the graphical login screen or any Microsoft Terminal Server through RDP protocol. The actual configuration of clients is made with an easy to use graphical configuration tool, allowing the specification of clients parameters or the server to access to.
You can recover hardware that is useless running current desktop OS or office package and give it a second chance. This thin client boots from the network with PXE (Intel Pre-Execution Environment specifications) so neither boot diskette nor boot eprom is needed.
The linux kernel and an initial root filesystem is transmitted over the network (the compressed size as of version 0.4 is about 4M).
Main features:
