Arabica January 2007

Arabica January 2007

Arabica is a C++ XML parser toolkit that has a full SAX2 implementation. more>>
Arabica is a C++ XML parser toolkit that has a full SAX2 implementation (the Simple API for XML), including the optional interfaces and helper classes. It also implements the W3C DOM (Document Object Model) Level 2.0 Core, together with XPath 1.0.
It delivers UTF-8 encoded std::strings or UCS-2 std::wstrings, but can also accommodate custom string types and alternative encodings. Arabica provides uniform SAX2 wrappers for the expat parser, Xerces, libxml, and the Microsoft XML parser COM component.
Enhancements:
- Further improvements were made to the configure system.
- The build can now be configured without the Boost libraries, in which case the XPath components are skipped.
- Parser detection is improved, as is detecting the correct libraries for sockets.
- TreeWalker and NodeFilter were added.
- MSXML version checking was beefed up.
- Buffering in convertstream was reworked to reduce the number of dynamic allocations.
- LexicalHandler and DeclHandler are promoted to be part of the XMLReader interface.

FIFE 2007.1

FIFE 2007.1

FIFE is a 2D RPG engine. more>>
FIFE is a 2D RPG engine.

For the ones that have never heard about FIFE: this project is an open source engine that aims to be a platform for the creation of 2D RPGs. We do also provide support for the assets of the original Fallout games. So FIFE will be a good choice for the creation of Fallout-like & even non-Fallout-like games under all major platforms (Linux, Windows, Mac) with the emphasis on easy modding.

The development team emanated from the ianout project and is now working to bring you the best open source RPG engine with Fallout support. To do so, were still in need of dedicated developers that want to help us working on FIFE. If you are interested in contributing to the project we recommend to take a look at our new FIFE developer introduction. It will help you to get you a basic survey of the ideas and concepts of the FIFE project.

Ark Linux 2007.1

Ark Linux 2007.1

Ark Linux is a Linux distribution designed especially for desktop use. more>>
Ark Linux is a Linux distribution designed especially for desktop use, primarily for people without prior Linux experience. Ark Linuxs main goal is ease of use, and the inclusion of many tools end users will need.
Ark Linux is fully Open Source and Free Software, meaning, basically, you can freely redistribute it in both modified and unmodified form.
Enhancements:
- The Ark Linux team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Ark Linux 2007.1, the latest version of its multi-purpose desktop operating system. Ark Linux can be used for office/school work, desktop publishing, graphics, multimedia entertainment/editing, gaming, software development, and more.
Ark Linux is very adaptable and responsive to the users needs without being overly complicated and/or bloated or difficult to install (all a basic installation takes is 3 mouse clicks). For a more customized install, use the expert mode, which makes it possible to manually set up the partitions you wish to install Ark Linux into.
There have been many more changes since the 2006.1 release - all components have been updated to current versions. For example, Ark Linux 2007.1 includes the KDE 3.5.7 desktop, the OpenOffice.org 2.2.1 office suite and the Amarok music player 1.4.7. It also includes the latest underlying technologies such as Linux kernel 2.6.22.3, glibc 2.6.1, and has been built completely with gcc 4.2.1, resulting in a faster system and quicker response times.
A new and better integrated version of the wine Windows emulator makes it possible to run more Windows applications on Linux than before.
In addition to this, hardware detection has been improved, many new drivers are included, support for encrypted wireless networks has been improved and many additional applications and games have been added to the software repository.
We also have good news for developers and OEMs: The Ark Linux build system has been extended to allow customized builds of both Ark Linux and Ark Linux Live including your packages of choice - making it easier than ever to build your own Linux distribution. All details on the new build system can be found at http://wiki.arklinux.org/index.php/Customized_Ark_Linux_CDs-.
Ark Linux 2007.1 and various add-on CDs can be downloaded at http://www.arklinux.org/. Free live support is available using the web chat at http://www.arklinux.org/content/en/Live+Support

CLFSWM 2007-05-15

CLFSWM 2007-05-15

CLFSWM is yet A(nother) Common Lisp FullScreen Window Manager. more>>
CLFSWM is yet A(nother) Common Lisp FullScreen Window Manager.
CLFSWM is a 100% Common Lisp X11 window manager (based on Tinywm and Stumpwm. Many thanks to them).
It can be driven only with the keyboard or with the mouse. A display is divided in workspaces, groups and windows. Windows are packed together in groups.
By default a group is fullscreen maximized (no decorations, no buttons, no menus: nothing, just the application fullscreen!).
When not maximized, a group of windows can be moved, resized, tiled, packed or filled to others groups edges.
For its binding, CLFSWM has two modes.
A main mode with minimal keys and no mouse grabbing to avoid conflict with others applications.
And a second mode with more keys and mouse actions. CLFSWM comes with an integrated pager to manage workspaces, groups and windows as in the second mode way.
For details on the CLFSWM usage, have a look at the default bindings.
CLFSWM is highly dynamic. By default there is only one workspace and one group. Other workspaces or groups are created/deleted on the fly. Windows, groups and workspaces can be manipulated in the second mode or in the pager. A window can be in more than one group or workspace, so it can have multiple views of the same windows.
Enhancements:
- Some new tiling functions (like the larswm, dwm, or wmii way) were added.
- The ability to explode/implode groups (create a group per window in a group or move all windows in one group) has been added.
- This release has the beginning of NetWM compliance.

ZIG 2.0.0

ZIG 2.0.0

ZIG is a client-server game networking engine. more>>
ZIG is a client-server game networking engine. The current main version is "2", and it was launched in July, 2007 with ZIG 2.0.0. This software is free and it is licensed under a BSD-like license.
From the standpoint of ZIG, the graphics renderer, the sound engine and the input handler are all extensions you must provide. You will be able to plug your Allegro, SDL, DirectX, OpenGL etc. stuff into ZIG with ease. ZIG is a cross-platform C/C++ library which depends only on HawkNL versions 1.7 beta 1 or later.
Enhancements:
- This release brings about two years of bugfixes and enhancements, plus documentation rewritten from scratch.
- It includes SCTP-like transport of multiple message streams through a single ZIG client-server connection.
- Each stream enforces a message ordering that is independent of other streams.
- The ZIG streams also allow you to control bandwidth use (if you want to) and to mix reliable and unreliable messages on the same stream.
