GNU GRUB 1.95

GNU GRUB 1.95

GNU GRUB is a GRand Unified Bootloader. more>>
GNU GRUB project, which is a rewrite of GRUB, is alive and under development. GRUB aims at merging sources from PUPA in order to create the next generation of GNU GRUB. A mailing list and a wiki have been setup for discussing the development of GRUB.
Main features:
- Create a compact core image. This will make Stage 1.5 unnecessary.
- Add support for dynamic loading to the core image, so that it can extend itself at the run time rather than at the build time.
- Add real memory management, to make GNU GRUB more extensible.
- Add a more object-oriented framework for file systems, files, devices, drives, terminals, commands, and OS loaders.
- Add support for internationalization. This includes support for non-ASCII character code, message catalogs like gettext, fonts, graphics console, and so on.
- Add an actual localization, based on the above internationalization support. We will target on Japanese as the first step.
- Segregate code specific to i386-pc from generic code, to make GNU GRUB portable.
- Add support for cross-platform installation.
- Develop additional software packages which will help our project and hopefully other projects.
Multiboot Specification is a protocol between a boot loader and an OS kernel. Because this specification is generic, you can use the protocol in your own boot loader and/or in your own OS freely. Follow this link, for more details.

If you have a 3dfx, you can take advantage of OpenGL 1.1 in adding this line in config.h:

Kugar 1.6.1

Kugar is a KDE tool for generating business quality reports which can be viewed and printed. more>>
Kugar is a KDE tool for generating business quality reports which can be viewed and printed. The project includes a standalone report viewer and a KPart report viewer. The latter means that any KDE application can embed the report viewing functionality and that reports can be viewed using the Konqueror browser.
Kugar works by merging application generated data with a template to produce the final report. Both the data and the template are specified using XML. Main features:
- Kugar report designer.
- Report printing in Postscript.
- Database/datasource neutral, data is supplied to the report engine in XML.
- Support for direct database access.
- Open report definition files, report layout is stored in XML.
- Full control of fonts, colors, text alignment and wrapping.
- Report Header/Footer.
- Page Header/Footer.
- Detail Section.
- Detail Header/Footer.

Gang-star 0.1

Gang-star 0.1

Gang-star is somewhat like the drugwars game but with much more functionality. more>>
Gang-star is somewhat like the drugwars game but with much more functionality. You could see it as a text-based GTA game. Gang-star project is fully text-based and does not have any dependencies. All you need for it to run is a C compiler.

The advantage of gang-star being text-based is that you can use your own imagination, compare it with reading a nice book over seeing a lame movie. You can play over 30 missions, have a gamble at the casino or the horse tracks, go to the nightclub to score some chicks, buy weapons and practice at the local shooting range, and much, much more.

Overview

Gang-star is a text-based game for the UNIX Operating System. You could see it as a text-based version of the infamous Grand Theft Auto game. At first glance you might think gang-star can be compared to the Drugwars game family but gang-star is far more advanced. The game is not about dealing drugs, the game is about the missions.

You start out in Gang-star city as a complete rookie. You have a little cash, no weapons, no nothing. The goal of the game is to become the biggest bad-ass in the city. To accomplish this goal you have to finish up to 30 missions. Next to this you can do a lot of other stuff, like playing the chicks in the nightclub, have a drink in the bar, play some games at the casino, gamble on horses at the racetracks, deal in weed, crack and speed, pimp hookers, and much, much more.

The game is not based on chance like a lot of games. What makes the game interesting is that your skills are upgraded the more you do it. The more shots you fire, the better your aim. The more respect you have, the easier you can hit on chicks, etc.

For a long time the UNIX Operating Sytem has lacked an expanded and fun game with no dependencies at all that would run on any system, but now its here. Welcome to Gang-Star.

Installation

To configure, compile and install gang-star, type:

% ./configure
% make
# make install (logged in as root)

Some people dont seem to get it, so heres how to use gang-star locally, without root access (e.g. on a shell account):

% ./configure
% make
% cd src
% ./gang-star

make compiles the gang-star sources and installs a binary in the src/ directory. You change your current working directory to src/ and locally execute gang-star.

Homespring 0.1.0

Homespring 0.1.0

Homespring is a bizarre programming language in the spirit of INTERCAL and Befunge. more>>
Homespring is a bizarre programming language in the spirit of INTERCAL and Befunge.
Homespring project is designed to superficially resemble English, but hide beneath it a structure so needlessly complicated and ridiculously impractical that it brings tears to the eyes.
Instead of being an excessively low-level language, like most of these efforts are, Homespring aims to be excessively high-level, as you shall see.
Homespring stands for Hatchery Oblivion through Marshy Energy from Snowmelt Powers Rapids Insulated but Not Great. Once you see the language youll know why. One might also call it HOtMEfSPRIbNG, if one so desires. HS will do in a pinch.
Programming in Homespring is hard, mainly because it is so different from other languages. The language closest to Homespring is Hunter, in that it relies on autonomous agents to carry information. Although unlike Hunter, HS has the environment changing the agents, not the other way around. HS also has an extremely rigid structure that you basically have to work around.
As Ive said, its designed to resemble English. It doesnt cheat all that much either. Although its case insensitive, the periods are lexically significant, and most of the words you see are actually keywords.
Even though the most trivial programs can be fiendishly difficult to write in Homespring, programming it is still kind of interesting and fun. Its also fun to know youve written a working program that looks like the one just below.
Enhancements:
- This initial release includes a fast homespring interpreter, a graphical debugger, and several example Homespring programs.

MIME::Head 5.420

MIME::Head 5.420

MIME::Head is a MIME message header (a subclass of Mail::Header). more>>
MIME::Head is a MIME message header (a subclass of Mail::Header).

SYNOPSIS

Before reading further, you should see MIME::Tools to make sure that you understand where this module fits into the grand scheme of things. Go on, do it now. Ill wait.

Ready? Ok...

Construction

### Create a new, empty header, and populate it manually:
$head = MIME::Head->new;
$head->replace(content-type, text/plain; charset=US-ASCII);
$head->replace(content-length, $len);

### Parse a new header from a filehandle:
$head = MIME::Head->read(*STDIN);

### Parse a new header from a file, or a readable pipe:
$testhead = MIME::Head->from_file("/tmp/test.hdr");
$a_b_head = MIME::Head->from_file("cat a.hdr b.hdr |");

Output

### Output to filehandle:
$head->print(*STDOUT);

### Output as string:
print STDOUT $head->as_string;
print STDOUT $head->stringify;

Getting field contents

### Is this a reply?
$is_reply = 1 if ($head->get(Subject) =~ /^Re: /);

### Get receipt information:
print "Last received from: ", $head->get(Received, 0), "n";
@all_received = $head->get(Received);

### Print the subject, or the empty string if none:
print "Subject: ", $head->get(Subject,0), "n";

### Too many hops? Count em and see!
if ($head->count(Received) > 5) { ...

### Test whether a given field exists
warn "missing subject!" if (! $head->count(subject));
Setting field contents
### Declare this to be an HTML header:
$head->replace(Content-type, text/html);
Manipulating field contents
### Get rid of internal newlines in fields:
$head->unfold;

### Decode any Q- or B-encoded-text in fields (DEPRECATED):
$head->decode;

Getting high-level MIME information

### Get/set a given MIME attribute:
unless ($charset = $head->mime_attr(content-type.charset)) {
$head->mime_attr("content-type.charset" => "US-ASCII");
}

### The content type (e.g., "text/html"):
$mime_type = $head->mime_type;

### The content transfer encoding (e.g., "quoted-printable"):
$mime_encoding = $head->mime_encoding;

### The recommended name when extracted:
$file_name = $head->recommended_filename;

### The boundary text, for multipart messages:
$boundary = $head->multipart_boundary;

Racer 0.5.2 beta8.9

Racer 0.5.2 beta8.9

Racer is a free car simulation project, using real car physics to get a realistic feeling. more>>
Racer is a free car simulation project, using real car physics to get a realistic feeling. Cars, tracks, scenes and such can be created with relative simplicity in mind (compared to other driving simulations).
The 3D and other file formats are, or should be, documented. Editors and support programs are also available to get a very flexible and expandable simulator. It uses OpenGL for rendering.
It attempts to do well at the physics section, trying to create life-like cars to emphasize car control and doesnt cut back on realism in the interest of fun. If youve played Grand Prix Legends from Papyrus, youll know what Im talking about.
Racer major features:
- Its totally free! (for non-commercial use)
- Available for multiple platforms; Windows 2000/XP (95/98/ME may work but have some trouble with fonts), Linux and Mac OS X.
- 6 DOF models used (the car can move around freely)
- Uses motion formulae from actual engineering documents from SAE for example.
- Total flexibility; almost everything is customizable through ASCII files.
- Commercial-quality rendering engine (with smoke, skidmarks, sparks, sun, flares, vertex-color lit tracks).
- Support for Matrox Surround Gaming. See the corresponding page on Matrox site.
- Lots of addon cars and tracks available on the web.
- Easy integration of your own cars and tracks that you create in ZModeler, 3D Studio Max(tm), Maya etc.
- At least 15 degrees of freedom for a regular car (6 DOF for the car body, 1 for each wheels vertical motion and 1 for each wheel spinning, and 1 for the engine, several more for the driveline). Depending actually on how many wheels you put on the car.
- Real-time internal clock; no physical dependency on framerate. Controller updates are also done independently of the framerate.
- Not limited to 4 wheels; anything from 2 to 8 wheel vehicles are currently supported (but mostly untested, and some problems with hardcoded differentials for example may exist (v0.5.0)).
- Not much constraints on the track data; surface info is taken from polygon data (VRML tracks), and splines are used to smooth out the track surface (polygons are too harsh for driving on just like that).
- Tools to modify the cars & tracks are freely available on this site (though external utilities are recommended for best results).
- Some used algorithms are explained on this site. Also, references are available. If you are programming a carsim, you might find something useful here.
- Save game present!
Main features:
PHYSICS FEATURES
- Full 6 degree of freedom motion of the car chassis.
- Independent suspension for all wheels.
- Suspension features: springs, dampers, anti-rollbar, rollcenter, anti-pitch.
- Wheel features: camber, wheel hop (the wheels have mass), toe.
- Tires: Pacejka tire model, relaxation length.
GRAPHICS FEATURES
- View frustum culling for increased framerate.
- Shader system for Quake-style rendering.
- Fog definable per track.
- Environment mapping for shiny materials.
- Live track environment mapping.
