John the Ripper 1.7.2
John the Ripper is a fast password cracker. more>>
John the Ripper is a fast password cracker, currently available for many flavors of Unix (11 are officially supported, not counting different architectures), DOS, Win32, BeOS, and OpenVMS.
It supports several crypt(3) password hash types which are most commonly found on various Unix flavors, as well as Kerberos AFS and Windows NT/2000/XP LM hashes.
Several other hash types are added with contributed patches.
Enhancements:
- Bitslice DES code for x86-64 that makes use of the 64-bit mode extended SSE2 with 16 XMM registers has been added for better performance at DES-based crypt(3) hashes with x86-64 builds on AMD processors.
- A new make target for FreeBSD/x86-64 has been added.

DJohn 0.9.8.1
DJohn is a distributed John the Ripper. more>>
DJohn is a distributed John the Ripper. With Distributed John (DJohn) you can crack passwords using several machines to get passwords sooner than using a single machine.
The cracking in itself is done by John The Ripper and djohns server (djohnd) divides the work in work packets and coordinates the effort among the clients (djohn), which are doing the work.
Because the way djohn was written there are several features/drawbacks on which you might be interested:
Only brute force cracking can be used; as the way to crack passwords is with an external mode (read Johns documentation for more information on Johns cracking modes).
There is no support to download the passwords files to be cracked by the clients. They must be downloaded by someone else (the user, another process). Starting in v0.9.8, there is a contributed server / client in Perl to do this task.
djohn was designed to run in closed networks where all the clients can be trusted, so security was not an issue.
All the clients are supposed to have the same (or similar) cpu power (this point will be addressed soon).
The server status can be viewed using the utility djs (djohn status) and a cgi front-end is provided to remotely view to server status (djs can only be used in the machine the server is running as it uses shared memory to get the status).
In future releases, the plan is to merge the code with John The Ripper to be able to use the different methods of cracking John provides.
Enhancements:
- bugfix: when there was no passwords cracked no notification was sent to the server [by Florian Schueller].

HuaRongDao 0.1
HuaRongDao project is an ancient Chinese puzzle game. more>>
HuaRongDao project is an ancient Chinese puzzle game.
The puzzle "HuaRongDao" has been the most popular puzzle in China for hundreds years. It came from part of the well-know story "The legend of three kingdoms".
At the end of Han Dynasty (about 200 AC.), China was divided into three kingdoms, Wei, Shu and Wu. "Caocao", the leader of Wei, wanted to unit China, however, was totally defeated at "ChiBi" by the allies of Shu and Wu. Only he and other 30 people escaped from HuaRongDao and came back to Wei.
After about 30 years, China was still united by Wei (named Jin at that time) into one country.
Its aim is to move pieces on the board in order to move the largest one to the center of the bottom. It is a very small game, and it is very challenging. This implementation is based on the curses library.
The game is controlled by keyboard only. Its features include undo, redo, and bookmarks. Custom starting patterns are also supported.

man 1.6e
man is linux documentation. more>>
man package is man page suite, including man, apropos, and whatis consists of programs that are used to read most of the documentation available on a Linux system. The whatis and apropos programs can be used to find documentation related to a particular subject.
man was written by John Eaton. He does not maintain man anymore - please do not bother him with remarks about the current version, which is rather different from the original one.
In man-1.6 Eric S. Raymonds browser-handoff functionality was added, with future minor versions planned to cleanup internationalization and cross platform support (Cygwin, solaris, and perhaps Win32).
There is a very different man program, also derived from John Eatons original version (by Graeme W. Wilford) distributed under the name man_db, with version numbers like man_db-2.3.10. Do not confuse the two, they are mutually incompatible, although they perform nearly the same job.

John The Ripper MPI 1.7.2-bp17-mpi6
John The Ripper MPI is an updated version of Ryan Lims patch for john the ripper to support MPI more>>
John The Ripper MPI is an updated version of Ryan Lims patch for john the ripper to support MPI, in addition to a large number of third party patches to support additional ciphers and such.
MPI allows you to use multiple processors on a single system, or a cluster of systems for cracking passwords using john the ripper. Incredibly usefull in these days of multi core processors.
A compatible MPI implementation is required.
Benchmarks
Dual Core Intel Core2 Duo, 2.16GHz, MacBook Pro MacOSX
John MPI - Version 1.7.2-bp17-mpi4, 2 threads
Benchmarking: Traditional DES [128/128 BS SSE2]... DONE
Many salts: 3433087.00 c/s real, 3636739.00 c/s virtual
Only one salt: 2852658.00 c/s real, 3021898.00 c/s virtual
Dual AMD Opteron 250 (2.2ghz), Gentoo Linux 64bit
John MPI - Version 1.7.2-bp17-mpi, 2 threads
Benchmarking: Traditional DES [128/128 BS SSE2-16]... DONE
Many salts: 2132632.00 c/s real, 2139034.00 c/s virtual
Only one salt: 1951692.00 c/s real, 1957552.00 c/s virtual
Version restrictions:
- If you use Gentoo, make sure you compile mpich2 _WITHOUT_ the "threads" use flag, otherwise john-mpi will fail to compile with undefined references to MPIU_Free and MPIU_Malloc
- If you use OpenMPI instead of mpich2, the SIGHUP signal doesnt get passed to john. It is necessary to send a SIGUSR1 instead.
Enhancements:
- Support for SIGUSR1 as well as SIGHUP, required for use with OpenMPI

Distributed Network John The Ripper 0.2.5
Distributed Network John The Ripper is a client/server framework that wraps around a slightly modified version of JohnTheRipper. more>>
Distributed Network John The Ripper is a client/server framework that wraps around a slightly modified version of John The Ripper.
In contrast to the MPI version of John, dnetj allows the use of nodes which are of differing speeds and for nodes which do not run 24/7.
This tool was written for a number of reasons, firstly the MPI version requires an MPI installation on each node, and for the nodes to be configured together and be roughly the same speed. Also, although other distributed password crackers exist (such as djohn or medussa) they all have their own limitations.
The server loads a set of password hashes, and splits the available keyspace into "work units" of a configurable size. The clients connect and retrieve the hashes, as well as a set of work units to process. Once a client has processed some work units, it connects back to the server to submit the completed units as well as any passwords which have been cracked.
Possible uses include eg, running as a background task on all the workstations in an office.
Note, this tool is at an early stage of development and is likely to be very buggy, although it is functional. Bug reports and/or patches are strongly encouraged.
Main features:
- Distributed client/server model, any number of clients can be supported and can be brought up and down at will
- Support for any cipher supported by John 1.7.2 (additional cipher patches should be able to be applied normally)
- Keep the changes to John to a minimum, so that patches/updates can still be applied without too much fuss
- Uses the same optimized encryption routines as John
- Cracked hashes are stored in the standard john.pot format, so they can be displayed with john -show
- Passwd files sent to clients are sanitised (only the hash is sent, other fields from the passwd file are removed)
- Capability for auto client registration
- Code is intentionally kept clean to aid porting
Supported Platforms
Dnetj has been tested on the following systems:
- Linux/x86
- Linux/amd64
- Linux/sparc
- MacOSX/PPC
- MacOSX/Intel
- Solaris/x86
Version restrictions:
- Clients will sometimes crash if unable to connect to the server for a long period of time.
- Work unit size is limited to a 32bit integer number of crypts (ie: 4294967296)
- Node performance calculations wrap once the node has performed more than 4294967296 crypts, so nodes may appear to be much slower than they truly are.
- Doesnt work with NTLM, as the NTLM hash is stored in a different field of the passwd file.
- Traffic is sent in plain text (this makes debugging easier at this early stage of development)
- Makefile is very basic, and has no configure script, compilation on Solaris requires adding -lnsl -lsocket to the compile command.
Enhancements:
- Basic functionality is implemented, and dnetj is usable, but there are many things still to be implemented and a lot more testing is needed.
