JFS for Linux project is IBMs journaling filesystem, ported to Linux.
IBMs journaled file system technology, currently used in IBM enterprise servers, is designed for high-throughput server environments, key to running intranet and other high-performance e-business file servers.
IBM is contributing this technology to the Linux open source community with the hope that some or all of it will be useful in bringing the best of journaling capabilities to the Linux operating system.
JFS is licensed under the GNU General Public License. If theres a feature that youd like to see added to JFS, consider becoming a part of the JFS development process. Since JFS is an open source project, its easy to get involved.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes some segmentation faults, buffer overflows, and infinite loops, and has some code cleanup.

Debian From Scratch is really two systems:

1) a bootable CD for repairing Linux systems or installing Debian;
2) the program that generates the CDs that are used for #1.

You can expect the following from your DFS CD:

* Bootable CD featuring the GNU Grub bootloader. Can be used to boot hard disk partitions even if no hard disk bootloader is present.

* Kernel and userland support for all major filesystems, including ext2, ext3, JFS, XFS, ReiserFS, FAT, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660, CramFS, tmpfs, and more. Userland support for Reiser4.

* Kernel and userland support for different disk layout schemes including standard partitioning, Logical Volume Manager 2 (LVM2), software RAID, etc.

* Full recovery tools runnable directly from CD, including:

- Filesystem utilities for all mazjor filesystems, including undeletion tools for ext2

- Partition editors (fdisk, cfdisk, parted)

- Text editors (nano, joe, vim, emacs)

- C, Perl, Python, and OCaml development environments. Enough to configure and compile a new kernel and build basic .debs. Kernel 2.6.6 sources included on CD.

- Full networking support, including PPP and various Ethernet cards and DHCP

- Network tools including FTP clients, Web client, ssh, telnet, NFS, smbclient, tcpdump, netcat, etc.

- Backup restoration tools such as rdiff-backup, dump/restore, tar, cpio, amanda client, afbackup client, etc.

- CD and DVD burning tools

- Basic printing tools (cat for local printers, rlpr for remote ones, and netcat for Jetdirect, plus unix2dos for text files and Ghostscript for emergency conversions)

- Mail reader (mutt)

* Base systems for multiple versions of Debian installable directly from CD, including: woody (i386), sarge (i386), sid (i386), and sid (amd64). Alpha CD can install woody, sarge, or sid for Alpha.

* amd64 support: Enough to install or fix an AMD64 system. Includes 64-bit kernel with 32-bit emulation (to run the 32-bit userland on the CD). Also includes 64-bit package for bootstrapping a new AMD64 support. In short, you can boot a 64-bit kernel and be treated as a first-class citizen in almost all respects.

* i386 or x86_64 (amd64) kernels bootable directly from initial boot menu.

* DFS generation scripts support custom kernels, packages, mirrors, compressed ISO images, and a high degree of flexibility.

Openfiler is a intuitive, powerful browser-based network storage software distribution. Openfiler delivers file-based Network Attached Storage and block-based Storage Area Networking in a single framework.
Openfiler sits atop of CentOS Linux (which is derived from sources freely provided to the public by a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor). It is distributed as a stand-alone Linux distribution. The entire software stack interfaces with third-party software that is all open source.
File-based networking protocols supported by Openfiler include: NFS, SMB/CIFS, HTTP/WebDAV and FTP. Network directories supported by Openfiler include NIS, LDAP (with support for SMB/CIFS encrypted passwords), Active Directory (in native and mixed modes) and Hesiod. Authentication protocols include Kerberos 5.

Mondo it backs up your GNU/Linux server or workstation to tape, CD-R, CD-RW, NFS or hard disk partition. In the event of catastrophic data loss, you will be able to restore all of your data [or as much as you want], from bare metal if necessary.

Mondo is in use by Lockheed-Martin, Nortel Networks, Siemens, HP (US and France), IBM, NASAs JPL, the US Dept of Agriculture, dozens of smaller companies, and tens of thousands of users.

Mondo is comprehensive. Mondo supports LVM, RAID, ext2, ext3, JFS, XFS, ReiserFS, VFAT, and can support additional filesystems easily: just e-mail the mailing list with your request. It supports adjustments in disk geometry, including migration from non-RAID to RAID. Mondo runs on all major Linux distributions and is getting better all the time. You may even use it to backup non-Linux partitions, such as NTFS.

Mondo is free! It has been published under the GPL (GNU Public License), partly to expose it to thousands of potential beta-testers but mostly as a contribution to the Linux community. I charge for 1-to-1 technical support to fund Mondos development.

QTParted is a Partition Magic clone written in C++ using the Qt toolkit.
Some note about REISERFS/NTFS/JFS/EXT3 support in QTParted: Even if libparted does not support these filesystems QTParted can handle it. Of course it do it using external tools. This are the latest support status of this filesystems:
- Ntfs - Needed mkntfs and ntfsresize (linux-ntfs)
- ReiserFS - Needed (progsreiserfs) by libparted. Warning: progsreiserfs is not reisergsprogs!
- JFS - Needed mkfs.jfs (jfsutils)
- Ext2/Ext3 - Needed mkfs.ext3 (e2fsprogs)
- XFS - Needed mkfs.xfs (xfsprogs)

Houdinix is a GNU/Linux live-cd made for young computer science students of our university, its a simple and user-friendly distribution, containing all tools needed by a beginner.
It contains more than 2 gigabytes of data (on a single 700Mb CD), and can be installed very easily on a local hard drive with our installer, Houdinstall.

Clonezilla Live is a Debian-based specialist live CD with software that enables users to clone the content of hard disks.
Main features:
- Free (GPL) Software.
- Filesystem supported: ext2, ext3, reiserfs, xfs, jfs of GNU/Linux, and FAT, NTFS of M$ Windows. Therefore you can clone GNU/Linux or M$ windows.
- Unlike G4U or G4L, in Clonezilla, only used blocks in harddisk are saved and restored. This increase the clone efficiency.
- LVM2 under GNU/Linux is supported.
- Unicast and multicast are supported in PXEBoot Clonezilla, which is suitalbe for massively clone. You can also remotely use it to save or restore a bunch of computers if PXE and Wake-on-LAN are supported in your clients.
- A single machine clone system without installation, Clonezilla live, is also available.
Enhancements:
- Now we can run a custom-ocs file n clonezilla live. A sample program custom-ocs which backup or restore /dev/hda1 to/from /dev/hda5 is in /opt/drbl/sample/custom-ocs.
- Use --menu instead of --radiolist in most of the dialog programs. Therefore no more pressing space bar to select the single choice.
- Update some comments, such as more comments about GNU/Linux device name to M$ windows device names.
- Debian iso template url and filename can be assigned in ocs-iso and ocs-live-dev.
- Bug fixed: device description was wrong when running prep-ocsroot in Clonezilla live (booting from CD).

Version 1.4 (Pommes) of the GNU/Linux operating system ROOT has been released! ROOT is a complete GNU/Linux operating system with the latest GNU and Linux technology.
Release 1.4 includes lots of high quality software like GCC 3.4.3, Perl 5.8.6, WindowMaker 0.91.0, X.org 6.8.1, KDE 3.2.3, TeTeX 2.0.2 and Linux 2.4.18.
The 1.4 generation of ROOT contains many major changes from the previous release 1.3. This is a small list of new features or other changes:
The package system
ROOT now includes a much more advanced package system with many new features based on pkgutils from CRUX.
The system installer
The system installer has been updated. It fixes many bugs and is generally more stable.
Latest KDE
The latest stable KDE, version 3.3.2, is included. It is the best and most stable KDE release ever.
GNOME libraries
GNOME1 and GNOME2 libraries are included for compatibility with programs. However, the GNOME2 desktop is not included because its hard to maintain and takes up too much space on the CD.
Translations
All translations of programs has been removed.
