libipoddevice 0.4.1

libipoddevice 0.4.1

libipoddevice is a device-specific layer for the Apple iPod. more>>
libipoddevice is a device-specific layer for the Apple iPod. It provides iPod-specific HAL event notification to applications, and along with objects representing an iPod, which gives the application access to properties and features of an iPod.
libipoddevice also provides a debugging program, ipod to view iPod device properties, listen for iPod HAL events, and safely eject iPods (iPods must be unmounted, then ejected).
In order for libipoddevice to detect an iPod, the iPod must be first mounted, and HAL must detect the mounted iPod volume. Best results come from a setup where gnome-volume-manager detects the presence of an iPod, and calls pmount-hal to mount the iPod. However, libipoddevice also has submount support, and should work with a submount/gnome-volume-manager setup as well.
libipoddevice does not provide any feature-specific iPod support, like reading/writing the iTunes Song Database (iTunesDB). This functionality is met by ipod-sharp, a Mono library that provides bindings to libipoddevice and feature-specific support.
Building libipoddevice
libipoddevice requires HAL 0.5.2 or later, which requires a fairly new D-Bus, hotplug, and udev. Any system running GNOME 2.11/2.12 should meet these requirements however (SuSE 10, Ubuntu Breezy, Foresight Linux, Fedora Core 4). Also required are development packages for glib/gobject.
After obtaining sources from a tarball or CVS, extract/change into the root libipoddevice source directory, and, if from CVS:
$ ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
OR, if from tarball:
$ ./configure --prefix=/usr
Then,
$ make && sudo make install
configure should automatically detect if you have pmount enabled. However, you can specify custom unmount/eject commands by passing --with-unmount-command="/path/to/unmount %d and --with-eject-command="/path/to/eject %d. Also, %d can be used for a device node, %m for a mount point, and %h for a HAL Volume ID.
If you are using submount, you can pass --enable-submount to configure if it is not automatically detected.
Enhancements:
- src/ipod-device.c (ipod_device_eject_hal): Propagate any errors to parent function, which will be sent to consumer application for display
- (ipod_device_eject): Handle the error_out parameter and propagate as a GError to caller
- src/ipod-device.h: Added ERROR_EJECT

PiddlePodder 1.0

PiddlePodder 1.0

Piddlepodder is a podcatching client. more>>
Piddlepodder is a podcatching client. It imitates the simplicity of bashpodder with a few added features.

PiddlePodder downloads podcasts from a list of XML feeds and puts them into a download directory by date.

No effort is made to copy the resulting files to an iPod, nor will this application interface with a directory, since its just a simple podcatcher.

Piddlepodder offers the ability to mark the set of podcasts as current (catch up). This is handy for first-time users who would otherwise be stuck downloading every show (sometimes since the beginning of the podcast) which can lead to hefty download times and large amounts of disk space.

PiddlePodder owes a debt of gratitude to PerlPodder, the code of which drives the XML parsing in PiddlePodder. Thanks to Sam Versluys et. al for creating PerlPodder.

LibQtPod 0.3 RC1

LibQtPod 0.3 RC1

LibQtPod provides access to the contents of an Apple iPod. more>>
LibQtPod provides access to the contents of an Apple iPod. The code was formerly part of the kio ipodslave, but is now a separate Qt-based library.
LibQtPod library features reading and writing of the iTunesDB music database and provides access to hardware specific information like disc space statistics.
Main features:
- Reading/Writing the iTunesDB Music database
- access to hardware specific information like disc space statistics
Bugs/noticable problems:
- please report any problem you encounter with the software to the sourceforge project page at http://sourceforge.net/projects/kpod
- Since podcasts and smart playlists are unsupported at the moment youll lose them when synchronizing the database.
Installation:
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `qmake to configure the package for your system and to create the Makefiles. qmake can be found in the bin directory of your Qt installation. You may have to add the directory to your PATH before running it.
2. Type `make to compile the package.
3. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.
4. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean.
Whats New in 0.2 Stable Release:
- This version contains lots of fixes and code cleanups.
- On the functional side, this release adds playlist sorting by setting one of the predefined sort order criteria and a new track(list) search implementation with user definable predicates.
- Browsing while on the go was speeded up by writing out type 52 MHODs; this may also result in smaller gaps between songs.
Whats New in 0.3 RC1 Development Release:
- Documentation fixes
- added trackNumber to ITunesDB::findTrack and TrackPredicated::ByFullInfo
- changed ITunesDB::findFirstTrackBy() and ::getTracksBy() to use a reference instead of a pointer to the predicate
- implemented Smart Playlists
- fixed DBID generation
- fixed ordering artists with a "The" in the name
- create backup copies for all DB files when writing
- implemented ipod initialization for pristine devices
- lots of small fixes - code + design
- builds with gcc-4.1

ipod-sharp is a library for interacting with Apple iPod devices, specifically the song database. more>>
ipod-sharp is a library for interacting with Apple iPod devices, specifically the song database.

ipod-sharp relies on libipoddevice.

ipod-sharp is a library that allows manipulation of the iTunesDB used in Apple iPod devices. Currently it supports adding/removing songs and manipulating playlists.

Installation:

The simplest way to compile this package is:

1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system. If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute `configure itself.

Running `configure takes awhile. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.

2. Type `make to compile the package.

3. Optionally, type `make check to run any self-tests that come with the package.

4. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.

5. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean. To also remove the files that `configure created (so you can compile the package for a different kind of computer), type `make distclean. There is also a `make maintainer-clean target, but that is intended mainly for the packages developers. If you use it, you may have to get all sorts of other programs in order to regenerate files that came with the distribution.
