CORBA::MICO::mapping 0.6.0

CORBA::MICO::mapping 0.6.0

CORBA::MICO::mapping is a CORBA mapping for Perl. more>>
CORBA::MICO::mapping is a CORBA mapping for Perl.

This document describes a mapping of the CORBA system into Perl. It sticks most closely to the mapping in the CORBA::MICO module, however some reference is also made to the mappings implemented in COPE and ILU/Perl.

These systems exhibit a wide diversity in the details of their object adaptors. CORBA::MICO implements most of the POA specification fashion, including all activation modes, COPE implements a version of the BOA, and ILU has its own object native adaptor different from the BOA, though it implements some of the BOA specificatoin through compatibility classes.

For this reason, this document largely avoids specifying object adaptor details, except for a few specific notes. Details about the manner in which the ORB is initialized and interface definitions are loaded are also not specified here. Conformant implementations may either use conventional stubs or access interface definitions in a dynamic manner. (For instance, by loading them from an Interface Repository.)
The design goal for this mapping was to allow applications to access the complete CORBA specification to be accessed from Perl in a convenient and concise manner, even when this requires sacrificing some amount of speed or convenience for the ORB implementor.

IPAC-NG is the iptables/ipchains based IP accounting package for Linux. more>>
IPAC-NG is the iptables/ipchains based IP accounting package for Linux.

It collects, summarizes, and nicely displays IP accounting data. Its output can be a simple ASCII table, or graph images. Ipchains and iptables are supported. Logs are stored in files, gdbm, or PostgreSQL database.

ipac consists of one perl script and one C program:

- fetchipac, executed from cron once in a while, reads the current ip accounting data assembled by the kernel and stores it into a database

- ipacsum summarizes the data from a set of records from the database and, optionally,
replaces these records by one. It displays the values as a simple table containing the sums, as png graph pictures or as ascii graph pictures.

ip-masq-log 1.0.2

ip-masq-log 1.0.2

This patch can be used on a masquerading firewall (NAT) to keep a log of all the outgoing masqueraded TCP connections. more>>
This patch can be used on a masquerading firewall (NAT) to keep a log of all the outgoing masqueraded TCP connections.
Its even possible to log the name of the user who has opened the connection. This can be a useful security tool for many small networks that are hidden by a masquerading box if users cannot be totally trusted. It can be used with linux 2.2.17, 2.2.19, 2.2.20 and maybe other (future) 2.2.x versions.
With this information you can know, in the above scenario, that the connection masquerader.yourdomain.com:666 [-3-] ==> crackme.victim.com:31337 [-2-] was started by attacker.yourdomain.com [-1-] from port 1234.
Now please note that this is NOT enough: if attacker.yourdomain.com is a multiuser machine at that time there could be 100 users logged in. Moreover a malicious user could attack crackme.victim.com from attacker.yourdomain.com even without being logged in (with either cron or with a background job or... etc.).
Since we dont want the users being able to hide themselves in this way, the masquerader makes a IDENT query to the client and, if IDENT is available, adds the response to the log together with [-1-], [-2-] and [-3-].
Its therefore recommended (although its optional) that you enable the IDENT service on all hosts on the internal network. Please note that if you restrict the IDENT service (e.g. with TCP wrappers) to the masquerader it wont work (exercise: can you understand why?). If your network configuration on the masquerader is OK, remote hosts wont be able to do IDENT queries (since they cant pass through the masquerader). Therefore allowing "everyone" to do IDENT queries on the clients should be safe enough. If you wish to allow remote hosts to do IDENT queries you can install a special IDENT server on the masquerade router, like pnidentd (for example).
Enhancements:
- Update for linux 2.2.19

IP Bandwidth Watchdog 0.8

IP Bandwidth Watchdog 0.8

IP Bandwidth Watchdog (ipband) is a pcap based IP traffic monitor. more>>
IP Bandwidth Watchdog (ipband) is a pcap based IP traffic monitor. It tallies per-subnet traffic and bandwidth usage and starts detailed logging if specified threshold for the specific subnet is exceeded. If traffic has been high for a certain period of time, the report for that subnet is generated which can be appended to a file or e-mailed. When bandwidth usage drops below the threshold, detailed logging for the subnet is stopped and memory is freed.

This utility could be handy in a limited bandwidth WAN environment (frame relay, ISDN etc. circuits) to pinpoint offending traffic source if certain links become saturated to the point where legitimate packets start getting dropped.

It also can be used to monitor internet connection when specifying the range of local ip addresses (to avoid firing reports about non-local networks).

Class::DBI::DataMigration::Mapping is an abstract parent class for objects that map a single column in a single row. more>>
Class::DBI::DataMigration::Mapping is an abstract parent class for objects that map a single column in a single row from the source database to the target database.

Synopsis

use Class::DBI::DataMigration::Mapping;

# ... Later, when building $mappings hashref for use by a
# Class::DBI::DataMigration::Mapper (which see for synopsis --
# in this example, assume an appropriate @source_keys):

foreach my $source_key (@source_keys) {
$mappings{$source_key} = new Class::DBI::DataMigration::Mapping;
}

# ... Now we can assign $mappings to our Mapper ...

Class::DBI::DataMigration::Mapping objects are used by Class::DBI::DataMigration::Mapper objects to retrieve the values for particular keys into source database objects; these will in turn be stored under particular keys into newly-created target database objects.

Linux IP Firewalling Chains 1.3.10

Linux IP Firewalling Chains 1.3.10

Linux IP Firewalling Chains is an update to the 2.0 Linux Firewalling code, for the 2.2 Linux kernel. more>>
Linux IP Firewalling Chains is an update to the 2.0 Linux Firewalling code, for the 2.2 Linux kernel. It is required to administer the IP packet filters in Linux kernel versions 2.1.102 and above. The older Linux firewalling code doesnt deal with fragments, has 32-bit counters (on Intel at least), doesnt allow specification of protocols other than TCP, UDP or ICMP, cant make large changes atomically, cant specify inverse rules, has some quirks, and can be tough to manage (making it prone to user error).

Currently the code is in the vanilla kernel sources from 2.1.102. For the 2.0 kernel series, you will need to download a kernel patch from the web page. If your 2.0 kernel is more recent than the supplied patch, the older patch should be OK; this part of the 2.0 kernels is fairly stable (eg. the 2.0.34 kernel patch works just fine on the 2.0.35 kernel). Since the 2.0 patch is incompatible with the ipportfw and ipautofw patches, I dont recommend applying it unless you really need some functionality that ipchains offers.
