Device::USB::FAQ 0.21

Device::USB::FAQ 0.21

Device::USB::FAQ Perl module contains Frequently Asked Questions for Device::USB. more>>
Device::USB::FAQ Perl module contains Frequently Asked Questions for Device::USB.

This is an attempt to answer some of the frequently asked questions about the Device::USB module.

Which platforms does Device::USB support?

Device:USB supports any platform that libusb supports. This list currently includes Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Darwin, and MacOS X.

There is a port of the libusb library to the Windows environment called LibUsb-Win32. Because I dont have a development environment for testing this library, Device::USB does not yet support this library.

Do I have to use Device::USB as root?

By default, access to the USB devices on a Unix-based system appear to be limited to the root account. This usually causes access to most of the libusb features to fail with a permission error.

Using the Device::USB module as root avoids this feature, but is not very satisfying from a security standpoint. (See the next question for more options.)

How do I enable use of Device::USB as a non-root user?

Some of the attributes of USB devices are available to non-root users, but accessing many of the more interesting features require special privileges. According to the libusb source, the open() function requires either device nodes to be present or the usbfs file system to be mounted in specific locations. Those places in order are:

1)
/dev/bus/usb - pre-2.6.11: via devfs / post-2.6.11: via udev
2)
/proc/bus/usb - usbfs

Look in both locations on your system for which of these two methods your libusb will use.

No matter which method your system uses, you will probably want to create a separate group to control access. Run this command to add a system group:

addgroup --system usb

or

groupadd --system usb

You can then add users to that group to allow access to your usb devices.

lotr-trivia is a simple trivia application. more>>
lotr-trivia is a simple trivia application with questions about LOTR. You can easily write files that will be used in the application to ask questions.

You can also edit the look and feel a little.

I simply thought that LOTR is a nice subject for a trivia, and the question files I have provided are about LOTR (the book, not the movie).

I thought of making the app look a bit like LOTR (put in some pics, etc.) but I decided against it because I didnt want the theme to clash with a diffrent set of trivia questions that was created by someone else.

ECQuiz is a Plone project used for multiple-choice tests, including extended text questions with tutor grading.
A Plone product for multiple-choice tests, including extended text questions with tutor grading. It offers QTI v2.0 import and export for questions and tests and CSV export for test results. This product is the successor to LlsMultipleChoice.
Main features:
- Support for single-answer, multiple-answer, and tutor-graded extended text questions.
- Import and export in compliance with IMS QTI v2.0 and IMS Content Packaging v1.1.4. This includes the import of tests created with LlsMultipleChoice.
- Related questions can be grouped into question groups, which are then treated as a unit.
- All questions can be displayed on a single page or on multiple pages, with or without navigation.
- Questions and answers can be displayed in fixed or randomized order.
- Random selection of a subset of answers.
- For self-assessment tests, candidates can be provided with instant feedback and/or be allowed to take a test multiple times.
- Answers can be annotated with explanations which are shown to the candidate in instant-feedback mode.
- You can define a grading scale which maps test scores to grades.
- Detailed results report, providing an overview of the performance of all candidates. The report can also be exported for further processing in a spreadsheet or statistics program.
- Fully internationalized, i.e., ECQuiz can easily be adapted to different language environments. ECQuiz currently comes with English, German, French, and Slovenian messages.
- And of course: Fully integrated with Plone: If you know how to use Plone, you know how to use ECQuiz. Tests are just another content type, like texts, images, discussion boards, etc. Also, ECQuiz benefits from Plone features like timed publication, access control, metadata, full-text and metadata-based indexing and retrieval; like for other content types, discussion can be enabled for test items, which can be useful for collaborative test creation.

This is a simple applet that displays the status of the keyboard leds. Useful for us that have a wireless keyboard without the leds.

Installation:

Simply do:

./configure
make
make install

It requires the GAI library (General Applet Interface) and you can find it at http://gai.sf.net together with other applets.

If you use gnome, this applet will be in the applet menu under "Accessories".

It seems like XFree86 4.3.0 doesnt register Scrollock like earlier versions. Or maybe it is just my settings that are broken. Any ideas?
