International Components for Unicode provides a Unicode implementation, with functions for formatting numbers, dates, times, and currencies (according to locale conventions, transliteration, and parsing text in those formats).
It provides flexible patterns for formatting messages, where the pattern determines the order of the variable parts of the messages, and the format for each of those variables. These patterns can be stored in resource files for translation to different languages. Included are more than 100 codepage converters for interaction with non-unicode systems.

Enhancements:
- This is a major release, with new features, new APIs, and many bugfixes in data and code.
- ICU uses and supports Unicode 5.0, which is the latest major release of Unicode.
- CU uses and supports data from Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR) 1.4, which includes many improvements in quality and quantity of data.
- A charset detection framework was added, which provides heuristics for detecting the charset for unlabeled sequences of bytes.
- Other performance and feature enhancements were added.

MetaTrans::Languages Perl module contains a simple "database" of most of the known languages. Extracted from MARC codes for languages, http://www.loc.gov/marc/languages/.

FUNCTIONS

get_lang_by_code($code)

Returns the name of the language with $code or undef if no language with such a $code is known.

get_code_by_lang($language)

Returns the code of the $language or undef if the language is unknown.

is_known_lang($code)

Returns true if the language with $code exists in the "database", false otherwise.

get_langs_hash

Returns the {code_1 => language_1, code_2 => language_2, ...} hash containing all known languages and their codes.

get_langs_hash_rev

Returns the {language_1 => code_1, language_2 => code_2, ...} hash containing all known languages and their codes.

StringParser_BBCode class provides the possibility to parse strings with BB-Codes and convert them to e.g. HTML code.
BBCode is a kind of markup "language" with which one may structure and format text. It is similar to HTML but it utilizes square braces instead of angle brackets.
Another difference between BBCode and HTML is that when using BBCode invalid code is ignored whereas the validity of the code is important when using HTML.
Enhancements:
- Several bugfixes were made.
- Support was added for parsing [code=foo attr=bar].
- A callback function may be called again on close tag occurrence.
- A processing type "callback_replace?" was added which exhibits the opposite behavior of "usecontent?".

Gnome-Dial is an user-friendly PPP dialer for GNOME 2. The idea which has given this project to light is quite simple: giving GNOME 2 users a usable, fullly-featured, GNOME-integrated, clean and fast interface to the ppp package in order to make dialup connections easily.

There already are tons of such tools and some are particullarly valid (Gnome-PPP for example), but they often need other programs like WvDial to make connections, or are not so clean, fast or well-integrated with the GNOME interface.

You can consider Gnome-Dial (expecially in this moment of hard development), a frontend for PPP, but this is not what it is intented to be: it will sooner or later begin to include new features and its own configuration files to represent modems, connections etc.

However it will not try to replace the ppp package. The package will soon include also a configuration generator.
