eCromedos 1.0.1

eCromedos 1.0.1

eCromedos is a document preparation system that allows concurrent publication of documents in print and web. more>>
eCromedos is a document preparation system that allows concurrent publication of documents in print and web.
Documents are written in an XML-conforming markup language and converted to HTML or printable document formats by means of a special software.
eCromedoss defines document formats for a range of document classes, which are formally layed down in a set of Document Type Definitions (DTD). The mapping of raw documents to representational formats is done via XSL-transformations.
The eCromedos Document Processor (EDP) is a modified XSL-transformer with a plugins-based architecture, through which it offers enhanced functionality which could not be realised with XSL-transformations alone. The most salient feature is the possibility to have listings in various programming languages syntactically highlighted during transformation.
For production of printable documents, the EDP generates LATEX as an intermediate format, which can be further processed into high-quality PostScript and PDF by use of the TEX typesetting system. All that is needed is a functional TEX-installation. The user does not need any previous knowledge about TEX or LATEX.
Enhancements:
- This release contains a number of major bugfixes and a couple of minor corrections and additions to the documentation.
- Users of version 1.0.0 are encouraged to upgrade.

Games::Euchre::Trick 1.02

Games::Euchre::Trick is a trick class for Euchre card game. more>>
Games::Euchre::Trick is a trick class for Euchre card game.

Only one Trick instance is alive at one time per Euchre game. The Trick keeps track of which cards have been played, and provides useful functions to determine which cards are legal plays, as well as who is the winner of the trick.

The trick class makes the determination of which card beats which card, given the current trump and lead. The trick class knows how to handle an alone hand and it calls the playCard() method for each player in turn in its play() method, usually called from the Games::Euchre->playHand() method.

Net_NNTP 1.4.0 RC1

Net_NNTP is PEARs package for communication with NNTP/Usenet servers. more>>
Net_NNTP project is PEARs package for communication with NNTP/Usenet servers.
Net_NNTP handles the connection and protocol level commands (RFC977), including many non-standard commands (RFC2980).
Net_NNTP includes a user-friendly API for intermediate users who dont want to work directly at the command level. However, Net_NNTP does require some knowlege about the NNTP protocol and general knowledge about email and MIME, since any handling of both content and headers is left up to the user.
Enhancements:
- A bug where mail() did not work was fixed along with notices in getOverview().
- Loading deprecated (and never stable) classes now triggers warnings.

PowerTop 1.7

PowerTop 1.7

PowerTop detects which Linux programs and kernel tunables are resulting in the largest power consumption and use of battery time more>>
PowerTop project detects which Linux programs and kernel tunables are resulting in the largest power consumption and use of battery time.
Power usage is a hot topic for computer users everywhere. For some, its a matter of how long a laptop lasts without being plugged in. For others, its controlling the temperature of hundreds of systems within a datacenter. For all of us, its about keeping the electricity bill under control and being kind to the environment.
Getting your computer to use the least amount of power can be problematic. This site provides information on reducing power usage, tips, and tricks for Intel-based computers running Linux*.
As a first step, Intel is releasing PowerTOP, a tool that helps you find what software is using the most power. By fixing (or closing) these applications or processes, you can immediately see the power savings in the tool. Youll also see the estimated time left for battery power if you are running a laptop. The Tips&Tricks page has fixes for a lot of the issues that are already found. Join our mailing list to participate in this effort to get Linux to use less power.
Building:
Just type make and then run the program...
tar -zxf powertop-1.1.tar.gz
cd powertop
make
./powertop
Enhancements:
- This release shows P-states (frequencies).
- A suggestion to disable TV-out and to disable Wake-On-LAN for unused ethernet has been added.

The Amsterdam Compiler Kit 6.0 pre3

The Amsterdam Compiler Kit 6.0 pre3

The Amsterdam Compiler Kit is a fast, lightweight and retargetable compiler suite and toolchain. more>>
The Amsterdam Compiler Kit or in short just ACK, is a fast, lightweight and retargetable compiler suite and toolchain written by Andrew Tanenbaum and Ceriel Jacobs, and was Minix native toolchain. The ACK was originally closed-source software (that allowed binaries to be distributed for Minix as a special case), but in April 2003 it was released under a BSD open source license.
The ACK achieves maximum portability by using an intermediate byte-code language called EM. Each language front-end produces EM object files, which are then processed through a number of generic optimisers before being translated by a back-end into native machine code.
Unlike gccs intermediate language, EM is a real programming language and could be implemented in hardware; a number of the language front-ends have libraries implemented in EM assembly. EM is a relatively high-level stack-based machine, and one of the tools supplied with ACK is an interpreter capable of executing EM binaries directly, with a high degree of safety checking. See the em document referenced below for more information.
ACK comes with a generic linker and librarian capable of manipulating files in the ACKs own a.out-based format; it will work on files containing EM code as well as native machine code. (You can not, however, link EM code to native machine code without translating the EM binary first.)
Installation:
To install the ACK, you need to download the source package and compile it.
Version 5.6 compiles cleanly on Linux, but it has had little testing so far. The installation instructions are complex but straightforward provided you follow the instructions. Please read the README; it provides a detailed walk-through of the compilation process, telling you what to type at each stage.
Enhancements:
- Support has been added for generating CP/M binaries using the 8080 code generator.
- The various optimisers have been beaten into shape, and its now possible to use them on all platforms; a basic peephole optimiser has been set up for the 8080.
- The floating point system has been confirmed working on the pc86 and linux386 platforms.
- ANSI compatibility has been improved, binary sizes have been reduced, and there are many bugfixes everywhere.

PHP Running Management 1.0.2

PHP Running Management 1.0.2

PHP Running Management or phpRunMan is a set of scripts for runners. more>>
PHP Running Management or phpRunMan is a set of scripts for runners. Users can enter intermediate times of their training or race performance for calculating various statistics (distance, avg speed, time/km, projection on different distance, etc.). In PHP Running Management you can enter comments for the whole run or every intermediate segment so the data can be used as a logbook.

Every run (training or competition) is entered as a list of segments and times. You can specify the number of laps and the "offset" (manual correction) of the distance.

Several views are proposed:

- Year view: displays all the runs with their distance, time, average speed, etc.
- Detail view: shows the profile of a run by segment (time, speed, cumulated distance and other indicators).
- Month view: aggregates runs per month over the selected year, shows every months distance, time, average speed.

All the scripts are written in PHP (requires GD lib activated too) and the data is stored in MySQL database.

g3d Graphic Tools 1.2

g3d Graphic Tools 1.2

g3d Graphic Tools project consists of a XML file format and generic development tools for games. more>>
g3d Graphic Tools project consists of a XML file format and generic development tools for games.
The problem is that often as a games developer you need to work with many 3d editing tools and rendering engines, and there should be an easy and portable way to move objects, levels, etc. around.
By having a common intermediate file format, you only need to write one exporter per tool and one importer per graphics engine. Also, you can develop generic tools which are not tied to any particular engine.
Enhancements:
- Added the skeleton object (beginnings of animation ;)
- Added asset management info in the file header (ie date, time, author, source, description)
- Fixed exporter bugs (3dsmax) relating to heiarchy stuff

PerlPoint::Parser 0.45

PerlPoint::Parser 0.45

PerlPoint::Parser Perl module is a PerlPoint Parser. more>>
PerlPoint::Parser Perl module is a PerlPoint Parser.

SYNOPSIS

# load the module:
use PerlPoint::Parser;

# build the parser and run it
# to get intermediate data in @stream
my ($parser)=new PerlPoint::Parser;
$parser->run(
stream => @stream,
files => @files,
);

The PerlPoint format, initially designed by Tom Christiansen, is intended to provide a simple and portable way to generate slides without the need of a proprietary product. Slides can be prepared in a text editor of your choice, generated on any platform where you find perl, and presented by any browser which can render the chosen output format.

To sum it up, PerlPoint Software takes an ASCII text and transforms it into slides written in a certain document description language. This is, by tradition, usually HTML, but you may decide to use another format like XML, SGML, TeX or whatever you want.

Well, this sounds fine, but how to build a translator which transforms ASCII into the output format of your choice? Thats what PerlPoint::Parser is made for. It performs the first translation step by parsing ASCII and transforming it into an intermediate stream format, which can be processed by a subsequently called translator backend. By separating parsing and output generation we get the flexibility to write as many backends as necessary by using the same parser frontend for all translators.

PerlPoint::Parser supports the complete GRAMMAR with exception of certain tags. Tags are supported the most common way: the parser recognizes any tag which is declared by the author of a translator. This way the parser can be used for various flavours of the PerlPoint language without having to be modified. So, if there is a need of a certain new flag, it can quickly be added without any change to PerlPoint::Parser.

The following chapters describe the input format (GRAMMAR) and the generated stream format (STREAM FORMAT). Finally, the class methods are described to show you how to build a parser.
