Python library for PS3 0.1.2

Python library for PS3 0.1.2

Python library for PS3 (Sony Playstation 3) game development under Linux. more>>
Python library for PS3 (Sony Playstation 3) game development under Linux. Includes: rendering to the PS3 frame buffer on a per pixel basis or with blittable objects (solid, masked or alpha blended), support for PS3 controllers and integration with PIL.
As you may know, Ive been writing my PS3 stuff with a view to building up a library suitable for writing games and as I thought about it more the idea of using a scripting language for the game seemed the most logical way forward. I plumped on python as Id used it before for a couple of small jobs and it seemed like a nice language with a lot of support. Plus, it has the advantage of being pre-installed on most Linux distributions and very easy to extend, and so the PS3 library for python was born...
Brief bullet points of the current build:
Support for the PS3 frame buffer on a per pixel basis
Support for blittable objects (solid, masked or alpha blended)
Support for the PS3 controllers
Easy integration with PIL for image manipulation and text rendering
A proof-of-concept breakout game
After about a day and a half development, the core of the library was in place but in a not very visible way. It seemed that the only way I could actually demonstrate this to all be good stuff is by writing a quick game. And breakout is one of the simplest, so I spent another day writing that. Its important to have a good demo on release... So, Ill settle for this half-hearted attempt at a breakout game whose main redeeming feature is that it has alpha transparency on all the blocks!
Just to whet your interest, heres an example of how easy the code can be (taken directly from the test.py file):
image = Blittable(Image.open("miglu.jpg"))
for count in xrange(screen.height-image.height):
screen.clear()
screen.blit(image, (count,count) )
screen.flip()
screen.wait()
Enhancements:
- Adds support for image blitting with the SPUs.
- Currently, using 4 SPUs the alpha blended breakout demo runs at 30fps at 720p.

Linux Fusion 3.2.3

Linux Fusion 3.2.3

Linux Fusion installs the fusion module to your kernel. more>>
Linux Fusion installs the fusion module to your kernel.
Fusion is a high level IPC API providing mechanisms for master/slave environments.
In client/server environments clients delegate every operation to the server which has sole access to shared resources.
The master/slave approach eliminates this overhead by virtually merging the processes at the lower level of their implementation.
This way of making multiple processes look like multiple threads gave Fusion its name.
Main features:
- Command encoding and decoding
- Transport of command packets
- Transport of data referenced by commands
- Context switches between client and server processes
- Strict seperation of client and server implementation
- Shared memory for data normally held solely by the server
- High level messaging for virtually local event handlers and callbacks
- Advanced locking techniques for synchronization and access control
- Framework for distributed allocation and cleanup of resources

Topologilinux 6.1.0

Topologilinux 6.1.0

Topologilinux is a free Linux distribution to be run on top or inside your existing windows system. more>>
Topologilinux is a FREE and open-source Linux distribution that can run on top or inside your
existing windows system.

The main thing with Topologilinux is that it does not require any partitioning at all. (uses a single file as linux root system) Topologilinux is therefore very easy to install.

Over the years, the Linux operating system has become very popular
among both computer enthusiastics and experimenting home users.

The trouble with the Linux operating system has always been getting
starting.

Here comes the solution of that problem !!

Topologilinux is a free linuxdistribution to be run on top of any dos/windows and new in version 5 is that you can run it inside your windows system without partitioning your hard disk.

It is very easy to install Unlike other Linux distributions

Topologilinux DOES NOT NEED ANY PARTITIONING.

It will run on your existing Windows/DOS partition in a directory named "/tlinux5". This release works on both NTFS and FAT partitions which means that you can run it under all existing Windows or dos systems. New in version 5 is that you can run it inside Windows through coLinux, you can also use X windows through a vnc server and then connect using a vnc viewer.

You can also run your existing windows program in Topologilinux through the windows emulator wine. Just enter wine your_program.exe

Also a great Office package is included, OpenOffice 1.1.3. To install copy all files to a temp directory and install it.

Topologilinux is a free Linuxdistribution but all donations of money are welcome.

Installation:

1. Backup important data before installing (see IMPORTANT: below)
2. start up windows and insert this CD and run topologilinux-setup.exe and create files (will normally start automatically)
3 Follow instructions and install the system (recommended is to install everything in coLinux mode (default) but you can also select not to do so and boot with this cd in and write "install" then press Enter (You need to have "boot from cd" enabled in bios) (for more advanced boot options press F1) (make sure to try all options in the F1 menu if default) (installation kernel fails). But as said before read the steps and follow instructions and select default alternatives.
A warning for the TAP driver will appear, accept this and continue the installation.
DO NOT FORGET TO DO the networking configuration if you want coLinux to work.
NOTE: that you may not use the cd-driver in any other open windows program like the filemanager explorer or anything like that if you do the setup through coLinux cause filesharing does not work between colinux and windows correct.
Also note that setting for colinux can easy be changed in the xml files /tlinux/colinux/*.xml
4. follow instructions, and install the software you want. It is always prefered to install ALL software
5. Your system is now installed, You can start it inside windows from the "Start Topologiliux" icon or do a reboot and use the grub based bootmanager to start it in real mode (much faster)
6. To use the X system inside Windows you need to start the Topologilinux system first then "Topologilinux X" to connect to the system.
NOTE: that you can not login as root from vnc (Topologilinux X) so you need to login as auser.. (can add more users by adduser command) (to be able to use internet inside topologilinux in colinux mode you need to do the steps listed in the /tlinux5/doc/network-installation.doc or the htm file)
7. After you have done all part in coLinuxmode you should restart your computer and start in "real-mode" and select start Topologilinux from the bootmanager. Then when you are there you should run setup to configure your system there too.
The first time you start up your system you will be prompted to setup your system, do so and then reboot it again and your system will be ready !

NOTE: When installing using more than one cd it might be troubles with mounting the second CD in coLinuxmode. But dont give up: try to first close all programs that uses the cdrom and try press continue, if that does not help you, open the cd in a windows "explorer" window and then try to close it again and wait about 10 sconds and try to press continue again. This step might be a bit triky but it should work. If it does not work for you try to do the installation in "real-mode" instead.

According the Network it might be a tricky part that to. Try the help that is available in this readme file, it it still fails try to search on colinux homepage or try the forums on topologilinux.com

Another thing to know is that if you during the setup in "real-mode" select to start in grafical login during X configuration, this will affect the coLinuxmode too. If you want to change it back just edit /etc/inittab and change to runlevel3 instead of 4.

Linux Video Studio 0.1.7

Linux Video Studio 0.1.7

Linux Video Studio is a simple/small application to make the capturing of video on MJPEG-hardware CODEC boards easier. more>>
Linux Video Studio is a simple/small application to make the capturing of video on MJPEG-hardware CODEC boards easier.
The application uses the MJPEG-tools, a set of programs to capture video and do lots of things with this. You need to have MJPEG-Tools installed before trying to install Linux Video Studio (also see installation notes) ! Linux Video Studio also uses the Xvideo extension in XFree 4.x to see what youre recording.
But that is not all. I want more than just capturing. My dream is to create one big application that does all the work at once. Not just one application for capturing, one for editing (xlav?), etc. No, my dream is to have one application doing it all. I hope Linux Video Studio can be part of that.
Installation:
You need Gtk to use this application. You also need the MJPEG-Tools installed. Besides that, you now also need an X-server with the Xvideo extension installed (i.e. you need XFree 4.x). In the XF86Config file, add the line Load "v4l" in the modules-section. Next, restart X (you must have the zoran drivers loaded before staring X, or the V4L-module wont work!). For some distros, you might have to install this module first (RedHat 7.0: you need the XFree86-V4L-.... RPM).
From source:
# tar -zxf linuxvideostudio-x.y.z.tar.gz
# cd linuxvideostudio-x.y.z
# ./configure
# make
# make install
From binary RPM:
# rpm --install linuxvideostudio-x.y.z-n.i386.rpm
You can also use GnoRPM or another convenience tool.
From Source RPM:
# rpm --rebuild linuxvideostudio-x.y.z-n.src.rpm
# cd /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/
# rpm --install linuxvideostudio-x.y.z-n.i386.rpm
Enhancements:
- some GList related preferences save bugfixes
- bugfixes where the extension of a file (.mp2, .m1v) precedes the filename, but that path doesnt exist

Linux NFS Utilities 1.1.0

Linux NFS Utilities 1.1.0

Linux NFS Utilities is NFS utilities for Linux NFS clients and servers. more>>
Linux NFS Utilities are NFS utilities for Linux NFS clients and servers.
Main features:
- NFS Versions 2, 3, and 4 are supported on 2.6 and later kernels.
- NFS over UDP and TCP on IPv4 are supported on the latest 2.4 and 2.6 kernels.
- Linux NFS clients and servers have been tested against many non-Linux implementations.
- Since version 1.0.1 of the NFS utilities tarball has changed the server export default to "sync", then, if no behavior is specified in the export list (thus assuming the default behavior), a warning will be generated at export time.
- If you plan to deploy NFS extensively, consider subscribing to one of these mailing lists: NFS Mailing List, or the AutoFS Mailing List. Before reporting problems, you should search for similar issues in the searchable mail archive. Another searchable archive for NFS, supported by Google, is here. The searchable mail archive for AutoFS is here.
- A useful set of generic NFS references includes the following:
- - "NFS Illustrated," by Brent Callaghan; Addison-Wesley, 2000.
- - "Managing NFS and NIS, 2nd edition," by Hal Stern, Mike Eisler, Ricardo Labiaga; OReilly, 2001.
- - "Linux NFS and Automounter Administration," by Erez Zadok; Sybex, 2001.
- - "Using the Linux NFS Client with Network Appliance Filers," by Charles Lever; Netapp TR-3183, 2004.
- - "Mike Eislers NFS blog."
- - "Eric Kustarzs blog."
- - "NFS version 4 home page."
- - Finally, the "linux.org online library" has many references.
Quick setup client guide
1. Acquire and install a recent distribution of Linux.
2. Set up your /etc/exports file (man exports for details).
3. Consult your distributions documentation to determine which /etc/init.d start-up script is used to start your server. Start NFS services by invoking this script as root, using the "start" parameter. Consider adding this script to the list of scripts that are automatically run at system start-up. (Red Hat uses the chkconfig command for this purpose).
4. Read the NFS How-To for advice on tuning and securing your server.
Quick Client Setup Guide
1. Acquire and install a recent distribution of Linux. To enable NLM lock recovery, ensure your clients host name, as returned by uname -n, matches the host name returned by DNS.
2. The NLM protocol is handled by an in-kernel service in modern kernels, but the user-level rpc.statd program must be running to enable NLM lock recovery. Consult your distributions documentation to determine which /etc/init.d start-up script is used to start it. Start the NSM daemon by invoking this script as root, using the "start" parameter. Consider adding this script to the list of scripts that are automatically run at system start-up. (Red Hat uses the chkconfig command for this purpose).
3. Create the directories on your client where you will mount the NFS shares.
4. Add entries in /etc/fstab corresponding to your mount points (man nfs for details).
5. Use mount -a -t nfs to mount the NFS shares.
6. During system boot-up, most distributions automatically mount NFS shares that are listed in /etc/fstab. If yours doesnt, check your distributions documentation for instructions on how to configure your client to do this.
Enhancements:
- The "mount.nfs" command was added, since the nfs mount functionality is being migrated from util-linux to nfs-utils.
- Substantial changes to were made statd. Various pieces of old code were removed.
- Lots of bugfixes and improvements were made.
