Instant Picture Creator 0.1
Instant Picture Creator is an Image Wrapper written in PHP to produce images on demand for websites. more>>
Instant Picture Creator is an Image Wrapper written in PHP to produce images on demand for websites. It uses filters, so you can manipulate images in every way by adding own filters. Currently it comes with two basic filters for Resizing images (Example: thumbnails) and Manipulation image colour palette. You can combine filters (like ‘Resize-square-100/Palette-grey’) and it is possible to define Shortcuts (like ‘greythumb’).
Filtered images can be cached, so it is fast and only need some more server time at the first image request.
It doesn’t need a special backend interface, you can manipulate images by a request like http://yourserver.com/picture.png?filter=thumbnail (you don’t need to do it by yourself, it will be done by the first request anyway). In this way you can integrate this mechanism very easy in running websites. You can use it only for one (or more) folder (with images) or you can you use Instant Picture Creator in general for all images on your website. Of cause you also can use it in your backends to prepare thumbnails for uploaded images, etc ...
Currently it supports GIF, PNG and JPEG image types.

Video Related Picture Editor is a gtk2 GUI frontend for batch-manipulating images using ImageMagick, MPlayer and transcode.
Its also the name of the infamous VRPE Team who paid me for hacking this together quickly because they needed it.
The name
Why "video related picture encoder" ? Because I didnt find a better name :) Any suggestions are welcome. With v0.1 the project was called "gFader" because all it did was "morphing" single frames to slow-down a video (giving a "fade-like effect") as batch-job with nice gui so poor Windows users could use it ;) My customer then wanted gFader to also do crop and scaling of multiple image files which rendered "gFader" as projectname useless. So i tried to make up some general name, which still fits if the application-range grows.
What can it do?
VRPE is able to do batch image-processing on a large set of images providing a way to move between images and giving a preview of the current, the previous and the next frame all with a nice GUI.
Different effects can be applied to the image-set (e.g morph, crop). Some of the effects support variable parameters so an effect can change with the image position.
VRPE can load several image formats (the ones supported by gtk2 and ImageMagick) or can convert almost any video to single frames using mplayer. It exports single images but also can render a videofile using mencoder or transcode. You can even launch mplayer to look at what youve done.
Other Features are:
Tooltip explainations almost everywhere
Nice wiki
quite fast
Drawbacks at this time:
lousy hacked together code
somewhat static filename handling
no "project" cababilities (images from previous sessions get imported if directory is not cleared etc.)
morph-curve gets lost
many more...

Simple Picture Gallery Manager 1.4.5
SPGM is a PHP script that displays picture galleries on the web. more>>
SPGM is a PHP script that displays picture galleries on the web. It is intended to provide a very simple way to set up online photo albums: creating directories, filling them with pictures and uploading to your website... That is what its all about !
Several cool features are also included, while keeping in mind that the program aims to be as lightweight, simple and portable as possible. Dont expect automatic thumbnail generation, advanced search functions, nor per-gallery full statistics then.
SPGM generates XHTML 1.0 Strict compliant code and makes extensive use of CSS stylesheets to render galleries. It only requires PHP version 4 or higher and does not rely on image manipulation libraries (like GD), or any database system whatsoever.
Main features:
- gallery/picture captioning
- unlimited sub-galleries
- per gallery complete configuration (inheritance supported)
- several sort options for both pictures and galleries
- random/fixed thumbnails used for gallery previews
- new pictures highlighting
- hidden galleries
- EXIF support
- slideshow mode
- easy integration into websites
- multi-language support (29 languages are currently provided)
- flavors (themes) available for use
Enhancements:
- This is a maintenance release that provides various bugfixes and small features.
- People who want to upgrade from previous versions should pay attention to the release notes, as a few configuration files must be updated as well.

Coriander 2.0.0 RC5
Coriander is a GUI that let you control your 1394 digital video camera interactively. more>>
Coriander project is the Linux graphical user interface (GUI) for controlling a Digital Camera through the IEEE1394 bus (aka FireWire, or iLink).
Coriander is full featured and besides changing the parameters of the camera it will also let you record video, send images to an FTP site, convert the video to a V4L stream,... A live display is of course provided too.
Best of all, Coriander will work with any camera that is compatible with the IIDC specifications (also known as DCAM specs). This includes most 1394 webcams and a majority of industrial or scientific cameras too.
However, any cameras in which you can insert a video tape (camcorders,...) will NOT work with coriander. These cameras record compressed DV video on the tape, while the IIDC specify uncompressed, on-the-fly video flows.
Main features:
- change picture mode and format.
- camera on/off/reset
- control of Auto/man/one-push-auto, on/off, value and absolute value for all standard features
- memory channel save/load
- full Format_7 control
- control of the external trigger
- transmission on/off/restart
Enhancements:
- Upgrade the framerate calculation to use the timestamps sent by the kernel (through libdc1394)
- Add a counter that shows dropped frames warnings. A warning is issued when the difference between a pervious period and a new period is larger than 50%.
- fixed the bit depth. If the bit depth is available in the camera, it will be used. Otherwise the manual control will be available. I still have problems with my Basler 602f though. It has 10bits but the image is not good: saturated regions appear mid-grey (128) and the other regions are noise.
- sync with libdc1394 (SVN 391)
- fixed missing string in trigger_source_list
- sync with libdc1394
- add more details to configure messages
- added PIO, SIO and strobe direct register read/write
- remove spurious debug messages
- revert part of the change of Feb. 1st regarding the Flea 2 because some other manufacturers implementation systematically fail one of the tests.
- fixed wrong argument order of WritePVNHeader(). Thanks to John Shen.
- Disable features if they dont support any control mode or if they are OFF and their power cant be controlled. This solves a few issues we had with the Flea 2 from Point Grey.
- little update of the "About" window
- dont set 1394b at boot time: let the user do it manually.
- move and fix `extern declarations of string arrays from build_menus.c, build_ranges.c, thread_save.c, tools.c, update_frames.c and update_ranges.c to coriander.h

Ansel 2.3
Ansel is a picture gallery for web sites. more>>
Ansel is a picture gallery for web sites. It is a high quality, information-rich photo gallery designed to handle large numbers of images and albums. Ansel stores all its images in a database, making it both fast and flexible.
Ansel is similar in spirit to Shutterfly and Yahoo pictures, but does not place restrictions on image size. It was named after Ansel Adams, the famous twentieth century naturalist photographer of the
American West.
Ansel is free; it carries a BSD liscence which allows many different types of usage including commercial ones. However along with this fact comes some caveats. It is designed to be easy to use, but not necessarily easy to setup. In fact its a bit advanced in that department.
Ansel requires a webserver with the PHP/PHP-MySQL engine, and a running MySQL database. You may need to know the basics of PHP, MySQL, and Apache to get things running.
I have tried to make Ansel use relative paths instead of absolute ones to make it play nicely with the rest of your site and to allow multiple instances.
Your system must have ImageMagic installed, specifically mogrify (named from Calvin&Hobbes I believe) and montage. These are used for image manipulation and are generally available by default on Linux systems.
Apache
Ansel allows images to be uploaded to the gallery remotely, which means potentially anyone can add pictures. In Ansel 2.0 passwords are used to protect pictures in an album. Security is by-album, not by-picture, which shouldnt be too much of a problem.
However, you must serve this site over HTTPS to safely encrypt passwords sent from browsers. A 403 password box sends usernames and passwords in plain text, and only by running the site over encrypted channels (like https) can security be called anything close to safe. Apache has an excellent and free mod_ssl which will run https.
MySQL
You have to create the ansel database in MySQL and give select and update permissions to a user. Ones that will work off the bat would be:
mysql> grant select,update,insert on ansel.* to apache@localhost;
To create the database do the following as root:
$ mysqladmin create ansel
$ mysql ansel < ansel.sql
The ansel.sql file is contained in the ansel/sql directory.
PHP
I believe Ansel expects to have magicquotes turned off. This affects how quotes are returned from the database. You should change the resource limits to allow large picture uploads. These are for my Linux RedHat system (Built with Rocks 3.1), the exact locations of these file may vary for you.
In File /etc/httpd/conf.d/php.conf:
LimitRequestBody 16777216
In File /etc/php.ini:
; Maximum size of POST data that PHP will accept.
post_max_size = 60M
; Maximum allowed size for uploaded files.
upload_max_filesize = 20M
Enhancements:
- Security was improved by removing the requirement for PHPs register_globals setting.
- Minor features including a more dynamic gallery home page were added.

XMMS Picture Viewer Input Plugin 0.1.0
XMMS Picture Viewer (alias Xmms-Slideshow) is an Input Plugin for XMMS. more>>
XMMS Picture Viewer (alias Xmms-Slideshow) is an Input Plugin for XMMS. Although XMMS was mainly intended for use as audio player its features and its broad usage makes it also interesting for use with other medias. An example is eg. the XMMS Mplayer Input Plugin which enables XMMS to play video files.
XMMS Picture Viewer Input Plugin adds picture support. Whenever a picture file is selected in XMMS the plugin will be used to display it. There is a configurable time how long the picture should be displayed. When this time has elapsed the next file from the XMMS playlist will be started. So its very easy to use XMMS for showing a slideshow (and thats why the project is also called "XMMS-Slideshow").
Together with Bemused XMMS-Slideshow could be used to control your picture galleries from a mobile phone. From the phones display you can see and navigate through the complete directory tree on your harddisk.
The XMMS Picture Viewer was written for Linux and was developed/tested under kernel 2.6.11.4 (but there should be no obstacles to run it under other kernel versions).
Main features:
- Support for different picture formats: .tga, .bmp, .pnm, .pbm, .pgm, .ppm, .xpm, .xcf, .pcx, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .lbm, .png.
- Configurable time that an image is displayed
- Fullscreen or window mode
- Configurable width and height of the window
- Cursor disable (if above window)
The SW is written in C and uses standard C-libraries and the GLib2. Additionally the SDL package and Gtk2 need to be installed.

The Picture Transfer Protocol library 1.1.0
libptp2 is a library used to communicate with PTP devices like still imaging cameras or MP3 players (KODAK mc3). more>>
libptp2 is a library used to communicate with PTP devices like still imaging cameras or MP3 players (KODAK mc3).
You can download files or tweak camera properties using ptpcam program boundled with libptp2.
Supported Cameras
The list of cameras implementing PTP is constantly growing. Most (if not all) USB still cameras designed after 2002 are supporting PTP. Below is the list of vendors implementing PTP in their cameras:
- Kodak
- HP
- Nikon
- Canon
- Panasonic
- Olympus
- Konica
- Minolta
- Fuji
- Ricoh
- Sony
More are comming...
Please note that if your camera is supporting PTP it does not mean that it is capable of performing all PTP operations (like trigerring capture, uploading files or tweaking properties). Sony cameras are good example of poor PTP implementation where the only thing you can do is downloading files. Sony even breaks the USB specification assigning all its cameras the same product/vendor IDs so dont buy Sony if you want to stay out of problems.
Currently most PTP features are supported. Uploading/downloading files, taking pictures and setting camera properties is supported as long as your camera supports it. However there are many Vendor Extensions that are not supported.
For example Canon uses some proprietary extension operations to take pictures (entering capture mode, extending lens and so on), Nikon introduces proprietary PTP properties.
Unfortunately I have access to couple of Kodak cameras only so to help support extension features you may send me a patch or donate/lend the camera.
Enhancements:
- A number of bugs were fixed, including leaving the camera in an unpredictable state when an I/O error occurs.
- The projects own reimplementation of the old libusb interface (IOCTL_USB_BULK) is used instead of the new URB interface, which is 20% to 50% slower and sometime leads to I/O errors.
- File time preservation across download was added.
- Better capture support was added.
- A bug that caused files over 2MB to be corrupted while downloading was fixed.
- The --loop-capture feature was added.
- Configure errors and parralel build with make -j were fixed.
