TurboPrint 1.94-4

TurboPrint is a high-quality printer driver system for Linux built on existing standards. more>>
TurboPrint is a high-quality printer driver system for Linux built on existing standards (e.g. ghostscript). It is designed to produce maximum quality photo printouts as well as high-speed text documents.

TurboPrint provides printer drivers for almost every inkjet printer, e.g. Canon BJC / S, Epson Stylus Color & Photo, HP DeskJet. All printer features are supported. TurboPrint comes with its own color matching system "TrueMatch".

High quality color profiles ensure optimum color reproduction on all print media (glossy paper, inkjet paper, ...). A comfortable GUI configuration menu and a printer toolbox (head cleaning, alignment, ink quantity) are included.

TurboPrint can be easily integrated into the CUPS printing system. The FreeEdition of TurboPrint can be obtained free of charge. It contains almost the full functionality.

Print Plug-In 2.0.2

Print Plug-In 2.0.2

Print Plug-In provides a basic printing capability for The GIMP. more>>
Print Plug-In provides a basic printing capability for The GIMP.
The current release supports PostScript, PCL (HP LaserJet and DeskJet), and ESC/P2 (EPSON Stylus Color) printers. The PostScript printer drivers handle PPD (PostScript Printer Description) files if you have them.
Using the Print Plug-In:
The Printer option provides selections for many common printers. Currently the print plug-in supports the following printers:
- PostScript printers
- HP DeskJet 500, 500C, 520, 540C, 600C, 660C, 68xC, 69xC, 850C, 855C, 855Cse, 855Cxi, 870Cse, 870Cxi, 1100C, 1120C, 1200C, and 1600C printers
- HP LaserJet II, III, IIIp, IIIsi, 4, 4L, 4P, 4V, 4Si, 5, 5FS, 5L, 5P, 5SE, 5Si, 6L, 6P printers
- EPSON Stylus Color, Color Pro, Color Pro XL, Color 400, Color 500, Color 600, Color 800, Color 1500, Color 1520, and Color 3000.
The Output Type option controls whether the printed output is in color or B&W (grayscale). This option is silently forced to B&W for grayscale images and B&W-only printers.
The Media Size option controls the size of the output. By default images are printed to fit the page and are automatically rotated to fill the largest area possible.
The Media Type option tells the printer what type of media is being used (Plain, Coated, etc). Not all printers support the media type option.
The Media Source option tells the printer which paper tray to print from. Not all printers support the media source option.
The Resolution option controls the resolution of the output. Not all printers support the resolution option.
The Orientation option controls whether the output is automatically rotated for maximum page coverage (Auto) or set to a specific orientation (Portrait or Landscape).
The Scaling option controls how large the printed image is. The default is to scale to a percentage of the printable area of the page. You can also specify an image resolution in pixels-per-inch (PPI) by clicking on the PPI radio button. The image is centered by default, however you can adjust the position of the image on the page by dragging the preview image.
The Brightness option controls the overall printed image brightness. A brightness of 100 is usually good for most B&W and PostScript printers, while most inkjet printers need a brightness between 100 and 120 for acceptable results.
Printing to a File
If you want to print to a file, select File from the Printer list. A file chooser dialog is displayed when you press the Print button. Warning, when you print to a file any existing file will be silently overwritten by this release of the plug-in!
Layered Images
Like most plug-ins, the print plug-in only reads the image from the active layer. If you want to print a composite of all visible layers you need to merge the layers (CTRL-M) and then print.
Supported Printers/Features
Most of the printer drivers in the print plug-in use the highest supported resolution for a printer, with the following exceptions:
- EPSON Stylus Color 600, 800, 1520, and 3000 - Currently the driver only supports 720 DPI printing in "compatibility" mode. This makes the drivers extremely slow compared to the Windows and Mac drivers. Unfortunately, I cannot provide optimized drivers (nor drivers for 1440x720) because of our NDA with EPSON.
- EPSON Stylus Photo, Photo Ex, Photo 700 - Currently the driver only supports 720 DPI printing in "compatibility" mode. This makes the drivers extremely slow compared to the Windows and Mac drivers, and you dont get the use of the light cyan and magenta inks (again, because of NDA restrictions.)

WP Clipart 3.0

WP Clipart 3.0

WP Clipart is a collection of public domain images specifically tailored for use in word processors. more>>
WP Clipart is a collection of public domain images specifically tailored for use in word processors. The graphics are all in PNG format without transparency. The main impetus for the format of the images was for use in AbiWord -- the "flat" PNGs print and scale exceptionally well in Abi, in contrast to how Abi prints other formats. You can, however, use these graphics effectively with OpenOffice and other word procesors as well.
Some of the images were made by me, the vast majority were acquired from several sources all documented on the "Legal" page. One of the large sources was OpenClipart - from which the SVGs were converted using RSVG and scaled to proportions more appropriate for word processors, as opposed to much larger sizes you would expect for clipart to be further edited in a graphics program.
As mentioned above, transparency was eliminated (avoided many printing problems.) Many clips from other sources had their density and saturation levels adjusted to what would print well on a typical home/small business inkjet -- openning up the midtones and eliminating large areas of shadow to prevent blocking . . .
Another advantage of scaling down the image sizes is the smaller download size. Ibiblio graciously hosts the files I display on these pages. There is a compressed package of all the clipart that weights in at about 79MB. See "Download" for details.
Above all else these images, illustrations and photos are Public Domain. Use them for private use, for commercial use -- without any restrictions whatsoever. Attrribution is not required. Links are not required. They are truly free.
But please, if used online, upload them to your own site and dont link from here. If my server is overwhelmed you will ruin this for others. But on the positive side, if you would like to add something I would be more than happy to post a "new clips page" with shout-outs to the good folks who help to increase the diversity and quality of this collection.
Enhancements:
- Multilingual menus were introduced.
- The default is English with options for French, Spanish, and German.
- The total number of clipart pieces is now 17,471.
- The zip file contains all clipart, a viewer/editor for use on Linux, and a Windows executable for the viewer.

Survex 1.1.12

Survex 1.1.12

Survex provides a software suite for processing, viewing, and printing cave survey data. more>>
Survex provides a software suite for processing, viewing, and printing cave survey data.
It is multi-platform and multi-lingual, can deal with extremely large and complex datasets, and can read survey data from many sources.
A sophisticated GUI visualization tool (Aven) is included as well as the data processing tool (Cavern) and a data entry tool (Survex-edit).
There are also printing and data conversion tools. Printing for HPGL, Postscript, PCL (Laser/inkjet), and Dot-matrix printers is supported.
Output converters to DXF and extended elevation form are included.
Survey data can be read in native Survex form, or Compass or CMAP files.
Conversion from other formats such as SMAPS is easily accommodated.
Main features:
- Its free! Survex is distributed with full source code under the GNU Public License. Other coders are encouraged to help add features.
- Multi-platform - using Survex doesnt force everyone working on your survey project to use the same operating system. Survex is designed to be portable, so getting it to run on palmtop machines should be fairly easy - Wookeys got Survex running on the Compaq iPaq running Linux.
- Internationalisation support - translations supplied for English, French, German, Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese, Italian, Slovak, Romanian, and US English.
- Hierarchical survey station naming.
- Fast processing of survey data in a wide range of formats, aided by sophisticated network simplification techniques (which also reduce memory requirements allowing Survex to be used on low end machines).
- Cave complexity limited only by available memory. No arbitrary limits on number of legs, number of surveys, length of station names, number of fixed points, etc.
- Include files allow `projects for survey data management. A survey, or collection of surveys, can be included in many different projects.
- No restrictions on the order survey data can be read in - theres no need to artificially reorder your data to make sure each survey leg connect to a previously read one.
- Support for a wide range of data styles, including "interleaved data", backsights, underwater surveys performed with a depth gauge, and unsurveyed visual connections.
- Network reduction with loop closure errors distributed by least squares. Standard errors and closure errors are reported. Theres also an experimental gross error (blunder) detector.
- Data can be partially processed, loops closed, and then more data processed which will not move the existing stations - useful for adding a loop to an existing map without redrawing the whole thing.
- All instruments (e.g. tape, compass, clino, topofil, depth gauge) have optional scale and zero corrections.
- Special handling for plumbed legs (where the clino correction doesnt apply).
- Magnetic deviation separately specifiable to compass calibration (useful for survey projects lasting many years).
- Support for most input units: metres, feet, degrees, mils, grads, minutes, and also user specifiable units. Percent gradient is also supported.
- Each measurement can have its Standard Deviation specified separately (for specifying the grade of a section, giving special treatment to an odd or suspicious measurement, or feeding in measurements derived from techniques such as radiolocation).
- Fast redraw and bank-switching techniques give smooth, responsive animation.
- Large printouts can be produced on multiple pages with cut-marks to indicate where to cut and join the pages together.
- Support for printing using Microsoft Windows printer drivers; also native drivers for PostScript, ESC/P (Epson, IBM Proprinter, Canon BJs and compatibles), PCL (HP Laserjets, Deskjets and compatibles), and HPGL (HP pen plotters and compatibles).
- Colour printing supported when using Microsoft Windows printer drivers, or the included Postscript driver.
Whats New in 1.1.12 Release:
- Aven now remembers its windows size (or maximized/fullscreen status) between invocations. The "Export as..." menu item now brings up an options dialog like "Print..." does.
