Informant 0.01
Informant is a set of utilities for keeping a user informed of events. more>>
Informant is a set of utilities for keeping a user informed of events. It consists of an informant, which is the means by which the user is alerted to the occurrence of the said event, and a number of sources that "whisper" an alert to the informant when the event occurs.
The current implementation is implemented as a Gnome Panel applet or a stand alone Gtk program. It is implemented in the Python programming language and uses the Twisted network programming framework.
For now, the informant is implemented as a Gnome Panel applet or a stand alone Gtk program. When an alert has been whispered by a source, the text of the applet or Gtk program changes from "No alerts" to "New Alerts". The user can click on the text and a window will pop up containing a list of the alerts received and the time they were received. The sources provided are the original CVSToys source, an e-mail filter source and a daemonized version of it, an RSS feed source (relying on TouRSSt), a web page change monitoring source, and a simple command line source that can be called from anything else. The code for each of these sources is simple enough to follow that new sources can be written quite easily.

Uptimed 0.3.10
Uptimed is an uptime daemon (logs your best uptimes). more>>
Uptimed is an uptime daemon (logs your best uptimes).
Uptimed project was created by Robert John Kaper but is now maintained by me because Robert is overwhelmed by work.
Instead of using a pid file to keep sessions apart from each other, it uses the system boot time.
Uptimed has the ability to inform you of records and milestones through syslog and e-mail, and comes with a console front end to parse the records, which can also easily be used to show your records on your Web page.
Uptimed was inspired by a similar utility called ud, but is completely different by design. Instead of using PID files to prevent multiple instances, Uptimed uses the system boot time to seperate log entries from each other. This is believed to be more reliable when switching runlevels or accidentely killing Uptimed or running multiple instances of it.
Installation:
Type ./configure && make. This should create two binaries, uptimed and uprecords. Make sure you use GNU make on BSD systems, often installed as gmake.
If the source does not compile, send a message to uptimed-devel@lists.capsi.com with the compile errors. Of course you are free to send some patches as well.
Enhancements:
- More formatting changes.

Network Tracker 0.5
Network Tracker is a user (MAC) tracker daemon, for big LANs (campus). more>>
Network Tracker application is a user (MAC) tracker daemon, for big LANs (campus).
The Network Trackerd builds a table which records which user is connected on which port of a switch by scanning the devices with SNMP in your inventory which is in a MySQL database. Trackerd keeps that table up-to-date by scanning the network regularly.
Thus, you will have the opportunity to know exactly where a user (MAC, IP, UID) is connected on your network !
Your devices are also checked with ping and SNMP, and you are informed with e-mail when any of the devices is not alive.
More over, you may produce various reports about your network infrastructure on the web (cgi) or by using other tools.
Network tracker eases especially to find and shutdown the switch port of the users, when their PCs on the network start to spread viruses or warms using lots of bandwith; so you are able to stop that kind harmfull traffic on the network.
Main features:
- Collects all the MAC addresses and port numbers from CAM tables of the switches.
- Finds IP addresses of the MACs from ARP tables of the routers.
- Finds LDAP uid of the user.
- Check devices on the network with both ping and SNMP for better reliability.
- The daemon sends 2 self check e-mail per day.
- Developped with C.
Enhancements:
- trackerd is now multi-threaded and works very quickly because a new thread is created for each network device.
- MAC tracking code has been reimplemented for multi-threaded use.
- Wireless access point support has been added.
- gnuplot graphics are prepared, showing the active number of users like MRTG graphs.
- tracker now accepts MAC addresses in free format.

KMSBII for Slackware 2.1.0
KDE Menu Sidebar Image Improvement is a simple improvement for your KDE Menu. more>>
KDE Menu Sidebar Image Improvement is a simple improvement for your KDE Menu that replaces default KDE Menu Sidebar image with one designed specifically for your Slackware GNULinux distribution.
Having say a Slackware or Debian or FreeBSD or any other OS/distribution logo instead of default KDE gear may be a much better choice for those of you who are just in love with your favorite *nix.
Personalized it looks sexy, it looks witty, it stresses the facts.
This project proved to be a little success because people seem to appreciate it.
So, now here we are with updated package again and it is my pleasure to hear from you that youve given it a try.
Enhancements:
- Project structure has been redefined so that it is now template based and extensible. This is basically a first attempt to unify all types of KMSBII presented at kde-look.org.
- Installation script has been dramastically improved; added new features to control the installation process and the ability to perform post-installation actions; run `./install.sh help for more information. The script is quite verbose now and informs user of every action performed in a user-friendly manner;
- Abbreviations of the project related names have been introduced to provide a convenient way to refer to them. See "ABBREVIATIONS" section of `./install.sh help output;
- Graphic source files as well as KMSBI files have been changed once again, changes have been made to achieve the best look of the KMSBI;
- Added KMSBII for Slackware GNULinux distribution v11.0.0;
- Updated documentation.
- Licensing agreement has been introduced to protect intellectual property and rights of its owner. See COPYING file for more details and "Licensing Agreement" section of this file for short explanations on how this licensing agreement works.

Avifile 0.7.43
Avifile is a compressed AVI file support library for x86 Linux. more>>
This project attempts to provide a working implementation of a few multimedia-related utilities for x86 Linux. At the time of its creation in May 2000 its primary goal was creation of video capture and recompression applications that would work with most popular AVI file format and newest data compression methods ( Indeo Video and variations of MPEG-4 for image compression and MPEG Layer-3/Windows Media Audio for sound ).
The core idea of the project was in using Win32 dynamic-link libraries in Linux environment. However, it has become most popular because of its side product - an AVI movie player that could play DivX ;-) movies in Linux with reasonable performance and stability. Since then most of work was done in this direction.
Now it supports a wide range of codecs ( compressors/decompressors ) such as DivX ;-), Indeo Video, I263, and others, able to show subtitles and perform video output using YUV overlays when necessary support from hardware and operating system is available.
It is also able to play most files in ASF format, and current development CVS code is capable of streaming ASF media over HTTP. The project is not intended to provide universal media framework for Linux, nor to do much more than what it currently does. Moreover, its mostly a proof-of-concept work. It was the first project that introduced the idea of using Windows DLLs and very limited ( ~50 Kbytes of code ) subset of Win32 API for audio/video (de)compression in *nix environments, the idea which is already reused in several other - more general - software projects.
It is the first project that extends that idea to the usage of DirectShow audio/video decoders for the same purpose ( by emulating DirectShow/DCOM environment from decoder point of view ). It is the only project that includes a player for files in Advanced Streaming Format. All these features are essential for the complete modern multimedia environment, and hopefully will become available in near future in such perspective architectures as Arts ( KDE ) or GStreamer ( Gnome ).
Aside from reusing the ideas, the project is used as is in a few media players for Linux, such as XMMS, XTheater or LAMP. The code of this project is distributed under General Public License version 2. Basically it means that you may do anything you want with this code, but if you want to redistribute it or any its derivatives, you have to do it under GPL and you have to make the source code available. For more details visit the site of Free Software Foundation.
Legal issues covering Win32 DLLs which accompany source code are a bit more complicated. These DLLs are freely available in the Internet ( exact URLs to most of them are available on this site ). For those DLLs which come with the license, their copyright owners allow using them at no cost if you do not disassemble, reverse-engineer them, etc. In some cases ( Indeo Video ) they explicitly allow to include these files into other projects under mentioned restrictions. Many DLLs are available without having to accept any license agreement at all ( DivX ;-), all DirectShow codecs ), what obviously means that any kind of activity with them is acceptable.
There is no warranty about the quality of this project. It is written mostly by one former university student with background in the area of Applied Physics in his spare time. I cannot even guarantee that it compiles properly on your system, because I dont have resources to test it on all existing distributions of Linux and flavors of Unix. I try to resolve the issues that Im informed about.

Xinity 2.2 RC1
Xinity project is a powerful web content management system (CMS). more>>
Xinity project is a powerful web content management system (CMS).
Xinity is a powerful web content management system (CMS). You can build complex web sites with content edited and maintained by non-programmers. It is user-friendy because it eliminates the flexibility gap: in common CM Systems the editor loses the more flexibility the more the programmer gains and vice versa.
In Xinity the programmer has the power to decide how much flexibility the editor has. There are no limitations given by the system.
The editor edits his content in WYSIWYG, and there is no need to battle with or system-specific variables. Xinity is a highly scalable system with a lot of customization work to do with each installtion, and is not suitable for a quick test run.
On the other hand there is a generic site architecture that comes with the base distribution, so you can set up you own Xinity web site in 30 minutes.
Enhancements:
- revise Exception-Handling and inform Client properly [TOBIAS done 11/4]
- inform client if logon fails [TOBIAS done 15/4]
- integrate Form- and Treehandling in AdCo [TOBIAS done 15/4]
- build ShiftBox AMS-Group selection (with two windows add/remove like in XBU) [TOBIAS done 16/4]
- change AMS-Groupprocessing on serverside (tokens to entities)[TOBIAS changed 17/4]
- confirmation on logout (generic confirmation-flag in Conmmand) [TOBIAS done 17/4]
- avoid server-startup on connection-failure (RMI-Registry) [TOBIAS done 17/4]
- errormessage if client cant connect to server prior to login [TOBIAS done 17/4]
- change AMS-Forms so ARPs will be set on save() not directly with a seperate Command [TOBIAS done 17/4]
- fix AMS-search [TOBIAS done 19/4]
- Copy+Paste in editor [TOBIAS done 19/4]
- introduce UserConfiguration for Modules [TOBIAS done 23/4]
- avoid focus-setting on read-only forms [TOBIAS done 23/4]
- Message on problems during session-initalisation [TOBIAS done 23/4]

You can pass several options to configure script. You can see help message by typing ./configure --help.
Plugins are compiled as a shared object. Filename should end with .so. If you get not .so but only .a, the chances are your system
cannot/dont create shared object.
If youd like to enable susie plugin extension, add --enable-spi. If youd like to enable libungif, add --with-ungif.
Put Susie plugins on the directory specified by spi/dir in configuration file. It might be able to decode pictures, or might fail to decode, or even might fail to load. Your mileage may vary. Please inform me of your result.
Enhancements:
- Bilinear image size reduction was implemented.
- Xv was enabled for JPEG images.
- cache_memsize_max support was added.
- New options were added: --minwidth(-X) and minheight(-Y).
- A new TGA loader plugin was added.
<<lessEnfle project supports these file types: BMP, GIF, PCX, PNG, PNM, JPEG, XBM, JPEG2000, XPM, animated GIF, MNG MPEG (mpeg1, mpeg2), AVI, Ogg, ogm, Vorbis, ASF, and WMV (codecs supported by avcodec and Windows DMO).

PHP Gift Registry 1.5.2
PHP Gift Registry is a a Web-enabled database. more>>
PHP Gift Registry is a a Web-enabled database that allows members to keep track of the gifts theyd like to receive and see what items other members would like to receive. Private reservations ensure gifts are not bought twice.
Main features:
- A single unifying view of items on your own list and people whose lists you can view.
- A now-optional request/permit system by which you can control who can see your list.
- A "checkin/checkout" system which allows you to reserve items on someones list.
- An in-system messaging system by which users can be informed of item deletions or custom announcements.
- New users can request accounts. Optionally, administrators will be informed about the request, and they can then approve or reject the request. Either way, the user will be informed by e-mail.
- A site-customizable ranking system for items.
- An events system for users to add significant (read: gift-bearing) events which will show up on others displays when the event nears.

Panopticode 0.1
Panopticode provides a standardized format for describing the structure of software projects and integrates metrics. more>>
Panopticode project provides a standardized format for describing the structure of software projects and integrates metrics from several tools into that format.
Reporting options provide correlation, historic analysis, and visualization.
Main features:
The Good
- There is a rich selection of tools available to the Java community for gathering code metrics. These tools can be invaluable for tasks such as:
- Prioritizing refactoring and redesign work
- Understanding unfamiliar or large code bases
- Ensuring coding standards are being followed
- Evaluating software quality
- Informing extend -vs- rewrite decisions
- Proving that contractual obligations have been met
- Comparing competing tools
The Bad and The Ugly
- While these tools are powerful they suffer from a number of problems such as:
- Installation and configuration can be difficult and time consuming
- Most only measure the status at a point in time and have no concept of historical data
- Each tool represents its data in a proprietary format
- It is very difficult to correlate data from different tools
- It can be difficult to switch between competing tools that provide similar functions
- Most have extremely limited reporting and visualization capabilities
Enhancements:
- This release provides treemaps of code coverage, treemaps of complexity, integrates metrics from Emma, JavaNCSS, and JDepend, and gathers metrics from CheckStyle, Cobertura, Complexian, Simian, and Subversion.
- Treemaps are a powerful visualization for seeing both the overall picture and a great deal of detail at the same time.

Integcheck 1.0.4
Integcheck is a system integrity checker. more>>
Integcheck is a system integrity checker.
Integcheck checks the integrity of exposed systems by getting a list of MD5 hashes of any important file via SSH.
The idea is to check integrity of exposed systems by getting a list of md5 of any important file via ssh, to keep this list on a pretty safe system (a system that do not run any server publicly available), and, finally, to compare everyday this list and with the previous one.
As long as the system considered as safe is not compromised, it should inform administrators of any changes on the others systems.
As others integrity checker, if its own components are corrupted, it can be fooled. In others words, you cannot have a security policy entirely relying on an integrity checker, and you should always do manual checks regularly to be sure that the integrity checker is not corrupted itself.
So whats the point of this tool, if you are still forced to do manual checks? In fact, it is way faster to check integrity of integcheck than integrity of the whole system.
Enhancements:
- Checks now rely on MD5 and file size instead of just MD5.
