Emcast 0.3.2

Emcast 0.3.2

Emcast project is a generic multicast toolkit. more>>
Emcast project is a generic multicast toolkit.
Emcast is a multicast toolkit for distributed/peer-to- peer applications that require multicast communication.
It includes the program "emcast", a generic multicast utility (like netcat), and the library "libemcast", a generic multicast library.
Emcast supports IPv4 multicast (IM) and can easily support almost any end-host multicast (EM) protocol.
The EM protocols supported are Banana Tree Protocol (BTP) and Internet Relay Chat (IRC).
Enhancements:
- Copy from inet address, not string. Interesting that mcast was still working before in Linux.

Antmod 1.3.2

Antmod 1.3.2

Antmod is a build management, release management, and repository management tool. more>>
Antmod is a build management, release management, and repository management tool. Its implementation is an Ant-based extensible engine for retrieving, versioning, building, and deploying code to and from Subversion or CVS.
It standardizes build files for Java projects and provides build plugins for various tasks. Antmod project also standardizes tagging and branching for both CVS and Subversion, and its module and repository management can also be used for non-Java projects.
It greatly speeds up Java software development, promotes reuse of Java software, and standardizes the build-test- release cycle.
Main features:
- Standardized out-of-the-box buildfiles
- For Java projects, Antmod places standardized buildfiles on module and release level, in this way standardizing the way each module and release is built.
- Allow customized builds per module and release
- Antmod allows modules and releases to override default behavior in the buildfile by committing a "local.build.xml" in the root of the module with the overridden build logic.
- Enable reuse of components across projects
- It is as simple as adding the module to the release descriptor of the project.
- Modularized approach to software artefacts
- Code, documentation, configuration, etcetera is grouped in modules that are versioned in a consistent way per module.
- Standardize repository usage
- Everything is in a module, the module is the versioning unit, and tagging and branching happens per module. Tag and branch names are standardized.
- Centralized overview across releases and projects
- Release descriptors describe what a release consists of, and are stored centrally in the repository. This provides a centralized view across releases and projects.
- Separate developer and release manager roles
- The release descriptors can be maintained by a release manager, and do not have to be maintained by the developer.
Enhancements:
- This release adds Subversion 1.4 support, improved command-line support, and module-level merge functions for merging to a branch or the trunk.
- With the out-of-the-box War plugin for building Web applications, this release is a must-have.
- All current users are advised to upgrade.

mp3blaster 3.2.3

mp3blaster 3.2.3

mp3blaster provides interactive playing of audio files like mp3 on a text console. more>>
Mp3blaster is an mp3 player for computers running a UNIX-like operating system, e.g. Linux, Free/Net/OpenBSD, etc. mp3blasters interface is entirely text based, thereby eliminating the need for a graphical environment like X-Windows.
This does not limit the way you can control the player whilst playing though; just like any graphical mp3 player, there are cd-style buttons like play, stop, pause, next track, etc.
While hardly anyone had ever heard of mp3 back in early 1997, I began to build up my own mp3 collection. As a Linux (text console) adept, I was heavily frustrated by the lack of a decent mp3 player. There was a (at the time) very popular command-line based mp3 player though, called splay. I figured I could use its mpeg decoding library and write my own interface in ncurses to control it. The plan was there!
Thinking about how to implement this interface, I also wondered why all mp3players had such plain playlist functionality! I like the ability to chuck a bunch of CDs in a multi-CD cd player, and then play the CDs in random order. In such a way that the cd player selects one of the five CDs at random, and then plays the entire disc. This continues, until all discs have been played. No mp3 player could do this, so I decided to add it to mine.
Enhancements:
- A parallel build bug was fixed. make -j now works.
- Dynamic screen resizing was implemented.
- A race condition that caused 100% CPU consumption at the end of each song was fixed.

Fracplanet 0.3.2

Fracplanet 0.3.2

Fracplanet is an interactive application to generate and view random fractal planets. more>>
Fracplanet is an interactive tool for creating random fractal planets and terrain areas with oceans, rivers, lakes and icecaps.
The results can be saved in POV-Ray format. The code is licensed under the GPL. Fracplanet project uses Qt and OpenGL.
Enhancements:
- The main addition in this release is the ability to export the terrain as a texture map, with or without relief shading.
- A DEM (Digital Elevation Model, or height field) and normal map are also written.
- For planets, the textures are a cylindrically projected latitude/longitude map (this is directly usable as a spheremap in POV-Ray).
- The illumination direction is now controllable from the GUI, and swirly spiral weather systems can be added into the clouds.

Newsstar 1.3.2

Newsstar 1.3.2

Newsstar fetches news and posts it to a local server. more>>
Newsstar fetches news and posts it to a local server; INN, s-news and sn are supported, and it should be easy to adapt for other servers with some configuration and extra scripts. Its designed for Unix-like systems, and all the development was done on Linux.

There are already plenty of other programs to do this, but what makes newsstar special is that it can make multiple simultaneous connections, not only to one server, but to several, supporting up to 10 threads. Before fetching each article it checks that it hasnt already been downloaded by another thread or in a previous session. It can also pipeline article requests to make better use of available bandwidth.

I wrote it because a number of ISPs I have used suffer from unreliable newsfeeds. There is an excellent free server made available by news.individual.net, but it can be a bit slow at times, and using external servers uses more bandwidth. Therefore I wanted a program which could fetch whatever articles my ISP has available, but use the foreign server to avoid missing posts or getting them very late, and to do it as fast as possible.

This project is distributed under the GPL.

SWT 3.2

SWT 3.2

SWT is an open source widget toolkit for Java. more>>
SWT is an open source widget toolkit for Java designed to provide efficient, portable access to the user-interface facilities of the operating systems on which it is implemented.

Full-blown examples that can be downloaded from the eclipse download page. The examples in package org.eclipse.swt.examples run standalone, and the examples in org.eclipse.swt.examples.* packages are eclipse plug-ins.

To get the examples, first go and watch to the eclipse download page:
http://download.eclipse.org/downloads/index.php
Then click on the eclipse build that you would like examples for (i.e. the eclipse build that you are running; typically the latest Stable Build).
Then scroll down until you see "Example Plug-ins". Read the paragraph on installing them, and select the download for your platform.
After installing the examples, the source for them will be in a src.zip file in the appropriate subdirectory of: eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.sdk.examples.source_ /src/
For example, the 3.1 source for the standalone examples in org.eclipse.swt.examples is in: org.eclipse.sdk.examples.source_3.1.0/src/org.eclipse.swt.examples_3.1.0/swtexamplessrc.zip.
To run the plug-in SWT examples, restart eclipse, go to Window > Show View... > Other... and expand "SWT Examples".

Tracx 1.3.2

Tracx 1.3.2

Tracx is a tracing XML language. more>>
Tracx is a tracing XML language. The software was motivated by a system management approach where system configuration information is retrieved via plain remote shell command output and stored in a structured way to XML.

The software is stable and production ready but there is still missing any user guide. Slash is a pretty example for the usage of the dragon parser generator, also available on this page.

KInterbasDB 3.2

KInterbasDB 3.2

KInterbasDB is a Python extension package that implements Python Database API 2.0-compliant support. more>>
KInterbasDB project is a Python extension package that implements Python Database API 2.0-compliant support for the open source relational database Firebird and some versions of its proprietary cousin Borland Interbase.
In addition to the minimal feature set of the standard Python DB API, KInterbasDB also exposes nearly the entire native client API of the database engine.
Enhancements:
- At concurrency_level 1, it was possible for a deadlock to occur if KInterbasDB simultaneously raised an exception in one thread while executing a SQL statement in another. This problem did not affect concurrency_level 2. Thanks for Atsuo Ishimoto for reporting this bug.
- The official implementation of the automagic TEXT_UNICODE type translator (in the kinterbasdb.typeconv_text_unicode module) was missing support for the new character sets introduced in Firebird 2.0 (namely, the corrected version of UTF8, plus KOI8-R, KOI8-U, and WIN1258). Thanks to Oleg Deribas for bringing this to my attention.
