Ice Hockey Manager 0.3

Ice Hockey Manager 0.3

Ice Hockey Manager is a hockey simulator. more>>
Ice Hockey Manager is a hockey simulator which has the ultimate goal of creating a game that offers the most realistic simulation experience possible. Our focus is more on substance than style.
While we want the game to be intuitive, we arent looking to compete with the flashy 3D graphics you might see in games from EA or Sega. Theyve pretty much cornered the market when it comes to pretty graphics.
Were more interested in games that challenge your mind and not your hand-eye coordination. We plan to take hockey simulators (and perhaps sports simulators in general) to places theyve never gone before, The way we see it, the possibilities are limitless, much like real life hockey.
While IHM may not have photorealistic facial features for every player model in the NHL we do strive to create a game that really does make you feel like you are at the helm of your own hockey franchise.
We first started developing IHM in late 2001 and the development team consisted of two members, Bernhard von Gunten and Arik Dasen. The first real release of the game was version 0.1.1 in January of 2002. The game was playable but still very basic, more intended as a framework for future development. In July of 2002, version 0.1.2 was released with many updates to the game but after this release the project essentially went on hiatus until September/October of 2004.
Up until that time the project hadnt garnered much interest from the open source community, either the project was too localized to Swiss-style hockey or it perhaps just didnt get the exposure needed to get people to jump onboard, whatever the reason, IHM seemed to be more of a labor of love than a project that perpetuated itself. Fortunately, in October 2004, development kicked back into gear and all sorts of new and exciting features started to take shape. Some of these features include computer AI, multiplayer-support, trading/transfers, sponsoring/finances, full season/playoffs simulation, etc.
And the IHM team is currently working towards version 0.3, which has been dubbed a "Preview Release" to demonstrate a fully-operational playable game. Will this Preview Release set any kind of standard as far as hockey simulators are concerned? No, not yet. In fact, many elements within the game are still rather simplified, such as in-game simulation (which will begin development post-0.2), but we hope the Preview Release will compel other open source developers to help out with the project as there is still a lot to be done before IHM can be considered a complete game.
This website is intended to both introduce you to the game as well as to encourage you to participate and/or contribute to this project in some way. Whether you are a Java developer, a graphic artist, a beta tester, or something else entirely, we want to hear from you. IHM cant build itself, and while we have invested many hours into the games development we still have our limitations as to what we can achieve, both in time and resources. So if you think you can help out in some way, please let us know. Ideally, you should be a fan of hockey, but thats about the only prerequisite.

Ice Sound Manager 0.57

Ice Sound Manager 0.57

Ice Sound Manager is a manager for sound events and sound themes for IceWM. more>>
Ice Sound Manager was designed to ease the management of sound events, sound themes, and the IceSound server in the IceWM environment under Linux/Unix. It is also intended to be an improvement upon the noble, but primitive icesndcfg.
The main improvements over icesndcfg include a support for sound event "themes", more comprehensive help, easy management and configuration of the IceSound server, a cleaner GUI interface, automatic starting of the IceSound server, and a more conservative approach to disk space usage. In addition, Ice Sound Manager includes a built-in "Setup" program which runs the first time you run Ice Sound Manager.
The application is written in Python (making it more easily ported across various platforms and architectures) and uses GTK through the PyGTK libraries. This application is available in both .tar.bz2, RPM, and static binary (for people without Python/PyGtk).
Please note that the tar.gz file does NOT need to be compiled (this is python, remember). System requirements are as follows: Python 2.2, PyGTK-2 1.9.9/2.0.0, IceWM (or IceWM-Gnome) 1.2.0 or better - with the IceSound Server executable (generally called, icesound or icesound-gnome). IceWM version 1.2.6 or better is highly recommended.
NONE of the following is required: Gnome, Gnome libs, or PyGnome (python-gnome). This application has NOT been tested with earlier versions of Python, IceWM, PyGTK, and IceSound Server. I cant say that it wont work with earlier versions, but I certainly cant say that it will. This application has NO dependencies on Gnome. 8-)
This software is distributed under the GPL license (included in the documentation and source code): Its free and open source for all legal and NON-commerical use, copying, modification, and redistribution, provided all of the authors credits are left in-tact and unmodified. This software is distributed AS-IS, with no warranty whatsoever. Copyright (c) 2002-2004 Erica Andrews (PhrozenSmoke[at]yahoo.com). All rights reserved.
Ice Sound Manager has been designed and tested in the following environment(s): Mandrake 8.1, SuSe 8.1, Kernel 2.4.8 / 2.4.19, Glibc 2.2.4 / 2.2.5, XFree86 4.0.1 - 4.3.0, Python 2.2 - 2.2.1, PyGtk 0.6.9/PyGtk-2 2.0.0, Gtk version 1.2.8-4-1.2.10, Gtk+2 version 2.0.6, IceWM 1.0.9 - 1.2.15, IceWM-Gnome 1.0.9 / 1.2.2, with both icesound and icesound-gnome sound server executables. The test computers (3) were all Pentium 1, ranging in memory from 64MB to 256MB - nothing spectacular. It should run well on very old computers.
Requierments:
- Access to a Bash shell (very important), Python (2.2 or better), PyGtk-2 (1.9.9/2.0.0 or better), and Gtk+ 2.0.6 or better - neither Gnome nor PyGnome is required. (IceWMCP versions 2.5 and earlier require Gtk+1 and PyGtk-1 0.6.9) Repeat: IceWM requires NOTHING gnome-related.
- Also, your version of PyGtk should have the Gdk-Pixbuf modules on your system. Please run ALL IceWMCP programs from a BASH shell: Using other shells such as ksh, pdksh, csh, tcsh, etc. is likely to cause problems. If your IceWMCP programs have trouble launching other applications, it is most likely because you are using something other than a Bash (/bin/bash) shell. Run the programs from Bash...period! If you attempt to run the application and get ANY kind of error that says something like "Import Error", it means YOU do not have all the necessary Python libraries installed or do not have them installed correctly: This is NOT a bug, so do not file a bug report when you dont have the necessary software properly installed. Getting Python and PyGtk and getting them setup right is YOUR business. DO NOT ask for help installing Python, PyGtk, or GdkPixbuf. I recommend you get them from: http://speakeasy.rpmfind.net. If you are using a Python version lower than 2.2 and are too lazy to upgrade, use the "binary" distribution of IceWM Control Panel, or dont bother at all. NOTE: These requirements apply only to the standard pure-python version of IceWM Control Panel. Compiled, binary copies of IceWM Control Panel are stand-alone executables that do NOT require Python or PyGtk.
- Disk space requirements: The standard, pure-Python version of IceWM Control Panel uses approximately 1.75-2.2 MB of disk space - very small! The compiled, binary version of IceWM Control Panel uses about 3.7 MB of disk space. Yes, the binary version is large, so people too lazy or impatient to install Python and PyGtk properly and choose to use the stand-alone binary version will pay with disk space. At last check, the Hardware (or System) plug-in uses about 1.9 MB of disk space (most of it being the hardware ID data file).

PEAR::Services_Weather 1.4.2

PEAR::Services_Weather 1.4.2

PEAR::Services_Weather searches for given locations and retrieves current weather data and forecasts. more>>
Services_Weather searches for given locations and retrieves current weather data and, dependent on the used service, also forecasts.
Up to now, GlobalWeather from CapeScience, Weather XML from EJSE (US only), a XOAP service from Weather.com and METAR/TAF from NOAA are supported.
Further services will get included, if they become available, have a usable API and are properly documented.
Enhancements:
- Various additions to the METAR/TAF service, including cloud types, pressure tendencies and the US version of ice pellets in the conditions.
- Parsing has been changed for the FMC notations and the wind and cloud related groups.
- EJSE has been fixed to make it work again with the demand for registration.
- Globalweather seems to be back online after more than a year, but apparently the service is broken, because the replies are all invalid; thus it is tagged for removal unless Capescience fixes this.

Magicor is an old-school puzzle game with "fancy" graphics.

As a hero penguin (what other protagonist character would a free game have, hm?) you must create, destroy and move blocks of ice to destroy enemies and extinguish demonic hell fire.

Each level has one or more solutions and the simplistic "physics" requires you to think ahead, one mistake and a restart might be the only option. Once you get into it, thinking ahead will come more natural. Who knows, you might even submit your own, really difficult level and let others try to find the best solution?

EMAN 1.8

EMAN 1.8

EMAN is a suite of scientific image processing tools aimed primarily at the transmission electron microscopy community. more>>
EMAN is a suite of scientific image processing tools aimed primarily at the transmission electron microscopy community, though it is beginning to be used in other fields as well. It has a particular focus on performing a task known as single particle reconstruction.
In this method, images of nanoscale molecules and molecular assemblies embedded in vitreous (glassy) ice are collected on a transmission electron microscope, then processed using EMAN to produce a complete 3-D recosntruction at resolutions now approaching atomic resolution. For low resolution structures (~2 nm), this may require ~8 hours of computer processing and a few thousand particles.
For structures aimed at ~0.5 nm or better resolution, hundreds of thousands of particles and hundreds of thousands of CPU-hours (on large computational clusters) may be required. Indeed, EMAN is often used in supercomputing facilities as a test application for large-scale computing.
Scientific image processing is distinguished from typical Photoshop image processing in that it is analyitical in nature. Images processed in EMAN are floating point greyscale images. That is, the pixel values in the images are represented as real numbers, not as small integers (typical GIF/JPG/PNG images are limited to integral values from 0-255 for each pixel).
Processing often includes complex image processing operations in Fourier or Wavelet space. EMAN was first released in 1999, and has been under continuous development since. It consists of a C++ library of hundreds of different image/volume processing algorithms with bindings into the popular Python scripting language. In new EMAN development, all user-level programs (of which there are over 200 in EMAN 1.8) are developed in Python, allowing the knowledgable end-user to make modifications without having to download or compile any of the C++ source code.
Enhancements:
- Substantial improvements were made in refine2d.py.
- Using refine2d.py on all new data sets is strongly suggested.
- Some programs use the EMAN2 style of arguments, i.e. "program < file > --option=value", rather than the old style, "program < file > option=value".
- There is a new HDF5 format compatible with EMAN2.
- New AIRS programs were added, such as "skeleton".
- New options were added to make refinement work better on large icosahedral objects.
- The parallelism infrastructure was improved, though network-related problems may still exist.
- Random model generation in makeinitialmodel.py was fixed.
