Yellow Duck Framework 2.1.0

Yellow Duck Framework 2.1.0

Yellow Duck Framework is an object oriented framework that will help you with creating web applications. more>>
Yellow Duck Framework is an object oriented framework that will help you with creating web applications. The project is implemented using the popular PHP web scripting language.
An example could be a weblog. The "post" request could take care of displaying and updating the items in the weblog. In this example, "update" would be an action as well as "display_list" and "display_item". Another request, "rss" for example could be used to generate RSS news feeds. In the "rss" request, we could for example find the actions "display_rss20" and "display_atom" which generate specific flavors of XML news feeds. Requests basically group action that are related.
By encapsulating all the programming in an object-oriented environment, you get a framework that is easy to use and understand, easy to extend and doesnt limit you in any way. If you combine this with a very feature-rich standard library that takes care of most common things that need to be programmed for a website, you have a very powerful environment available to develop web applications.
Main features:
- Structured programming environment by using requests and actions
- Clean separation of code and output
- Support for multi-langual websites by using locales
- Templates for outputting HTML easily based on Smarty
- Automatic action dispatching using URL parameters
- Object oriented form construction and validation
- Object oriented handling of authentication
- Classes for creating XML/RPC clients and servers.
- Classes for creating syndicated XML feeds such as RSS and Atom feeds.
- Easy handling of files, directories and images. For images, there are some very straightforward functions that can create thumbnails and obtain specific information about these images.
- An object oriented interface for creating and sending email messages.
- Database abstraction layer supporting MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite and Oracle.
- Object oriented way of creating SQL statements.
- Logging infrastructure based on plain text or XML logfiles.
- A shopping cart infrastructure that makes it easy to create webshops.
- Different smaller modules that take care of string handling, debugging, configuration settings, timers.
Enhancements:
- This release contains feature enhancements in nearly all sections.

DropTeam 1.2.2 DEMO

DropTeam 1.2.2 DEMO

DropTeam is an online multiplayer FPS for Linux. more>>
DropTeam is an online multiplayer FPS for Linux.
DropTeam combines accurate physics and ballistic systems, intelligent and realistic unit and weaponry capabilities with fast paced action set in a stark future of humanity. This Public Test is being offered in three different formats. One for Mac, one for Windows and one for Linux. This marks the first title published by Battlefront.com to offer Linux support!
Main features:
- A rich, fleshed out universe complete with a engaging back story and detailed history.
- Realistic combat system that models projectile/armor penetration, various munition types, and interior vehicle damage in detail.
- Huge, detailed and varied alien landscapes each planet accurately modeling its own gravity and atmospheric density, radically changing the tactical situation.
- Map sizes up to a massive 1000 (!) square kilometers.
- Terrain height resolutions from small ridges and vehicle fighting positions to towering hills and mountains.
- Deformable terrain with engineering vehicles digging out trenches in real time, ordnance created surface cratering and even trees toppling over under artillery fire.
- Dynamic environmental effects include building destruction and vehicles exploding and flipping over.
- Support for enhanced graphics effects including advanced shaders and High Dynamic Range rendering.
- Terrain uses dynamic tessellation (continuous Level of Detail) to render high resolution terrain at large sizes.
- Up to 16 human players or more supported, depending on system specs. Maximum online players realistically only limited by game server bandwidth, CPU and RAM.
More background and info on the game can be found on the DropTeam webpage located here.
The purpose of this release is to test DropTeams network functionality with a large number of players. Anyone can play for free in order to help us test DropTeam but this build has the following important restrictions:
1. Single player is disabled. You can only play network games with this release. The full version of the game includes single player skirmish games and a single player campaign.
2. This release only allows you to play 2 scenarios. The full version of the game includes 21 scenarios with more available for free download after release.
3. This is a test release, which means the game isnt finished yet. It definitely still has bugs. We greatly appreciate your help in finding and fixing them all!
Apart from these restrictions, this is a fully functional release. Players can use all of the dozens of vehicles and deployable items in the game. The two included scenarios are "Ice Field" and "Raid". Ice Field takes place on the frozen wasteland of Arcanum, a once-inhabitable planet orbiting Luytens Star that has had its climate devastated by bombardments from the Mu Arae Entente. The Raid scenario takes place on an inhabitable moon called Hopewell. Hopewell orbits a gas giant in the Wolf 9773 star system. Almost half of the moons surface, called "The Scorch", is a radioactive Hell created by the destruction of an antimatter station that used to orbit the gas giant. The remainder of Hopewell has recovered from this disaster and is once again beginning to flourish with vegetation and a growing human population.
This release includes everything needed to connect to servers and play on the Internet or on Local Area Networks on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X Tiger. It also includes everything needed for players to run their own public or private servers. This is important since there will be a limited number of public servers made available by TBG. We plan to run only 6 servers for this public test release so players might need to run their own servers if they want to play frequently.

Linguistic Tree Constructor 2.7.1

Linguistic Tree Constructor 2.7.1

Linguistic Tree Constructor is a free program for building linguistic syntax trees from text. more>>
Linguistic Tree Constructor is a free program for building linguistic syntax trees from text. Linguistic Tree Constructor lets the user build the tree in a point-and-click fashion.
The program does no analysis on its own -- the user is completely free to draw the tree however he or she wishes. However, the program makes sure that the tree is a tree and not some other kind of graph.
Syntactic theories supported
Three "flavors" of trees are supported:
- "Generic" syntax trees,
- X-Bar syntax trees
- RRG (Role and Reference Grammar) syntax trees (the LSC and the LSNP)
Labeling of nodes
- The program supports adding "labels" to nodes. These labels are userdefinable, and can be used for such things as:
- Rhetorical Structure Theory analyses
- Other discourse-level analyses
- RRG operator-projection analyses
- Subject-Object-Predicate analyses
Main features:
- Draw syntax trees using point-and-click
- Both tree-view and brackets-view are supported
- Supports up to five interlinear lines at word-level
- Interlinear lines can be switched on and off individually
- Change magnification
- Unlimited undo
- Copy (parts of) tree to clipboard as BMP
- Printing + Print Preview
- Uses any font (even Unicode fonts)
- Supports right-to-left languages as well as left-to-right
- Import from straight text (plain text)
- Import from word-per-record SFM interlinear text
- ... and many more...
Enhancements:
- A number of crashes were fixed.
- A bug with magnification on OS X was fixed.
- The speed of interaction with the program was improved.

Google Picasa for Linux 2.2.2820-5

Google Picasa for Linux 2.2.2820-5

Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. more>>
Picasa project is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organised by date with folder names you will recognise.

You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups. Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organised.

Picasa also makes advanced editing simple by putting one-click fixes and powerful effects at your fingertips. And Picasa makes it a snap to share your pictures - you can email, print photos home, make gift CDs, and even post pictures on your own blog.

Toward the very end, everything was looking great except that the initial assumption that most cameras emulate storage devices turned out to be wrong. Fortunately, Marcus Meissner just happened to decide to implement libgphoto support; his patch appeared at the perfect moment, and now Picasa supports both common flavors of cameras.

Two features left out of the Linux version were CD-ROM burning (the driver Picasa uses is hard to support under Wine) and movie playback (Wine doesnt have the necessary codecs). Both are potentially fixable in a future version, but were beyond the scope of this first port.

One interesting challenge when shipping commercial apps for Linux is packaging -- do you choose RPM or Debian packages, or do you use a WIndows-style installer? The Picasa for Linux team chose all three, in hopes of pleasing everybody. (Lets see how well *that* works :-) The Windows-style installer was implemented using the open-source Loki installer, and a few patches were contributed back for that, too.

Ice Hockey Manager 0.3

Ice Hockey Manager 0.3

Ice Hockey Manager is a hockey simulator. more>>
Ice Hockey Manager is a hockey simulator which has the ultimate goal of creating a game that offers the most realistic simulation experience possible. Our focus is more on substance than style.
While we want the game to be intuitive, we arent looking to compete with the flashy 3D graphics you might see in games from EA or Sega. Theyve pretty much cornered the market when it comes to pretty graphics.
Were more interested in games that challenge your mind and not your hand-eye coordination. We plan to take hockey simulators (and perhaps sports simulators in general) to places theyve never gone before, The way we see it, the possibilities are limitless, much like real life hockey.
While IHM may not have photorealistic facial features for every player model in the NHL we do strive to create a game that really does make you feel like you are at the helm of your own hockey franchise.
We first started developing IHM in late 2001 and the development team consisted of two members, Bernhard von Gunten and Arik Dasen. The first real release of the game was version 0.1.1 in January of 2002. The game was playable but still very basic, more intended as a framework for future development. In July of 2002, version 0.1.2 was released with many updates to the game but after this release the project essentially went on hiatus until September/October of 2004.
Up until that time the project hadnt garnered much interest from the open source community, either the project was too localized to Swiss-style hockey or it perhaps just didnt get the exposure needed to get people to jump onboard, whatever the reason, IHM seemed to be more of a labor of love than a project that perpetuated itself. Fortunately, in October 2004, development kicked back into gear and all sorts of new and exciting features started to take shape. Some of these features include computer AI, multiplayer-support, trading/transfers, sponsoring/finances, full season/playoffs simulation, etc.
And the IHM team is currently working towards version 0.3, which has been dubbed a "Preview Release" to demonstrate a fully-operational playable game. Will this Preview Release set any kind of standard as far as hockey simulators are concerned? No, not yet. In fact, many elements within the game are still rather simplified, such as in-game simulation (which will begin development post-0.2), but we hope the Preview Release will compel other open source developers to help out with the project as there is still a lot to be done before IHM can be considered a complete game.
This website is intended to both introduce you to the game as well as to encourage you to participate and/or contribute to this project in some way. Whether you are a Java developer, a graphic artist, a beta tester, or something else entirely, we want to hear from you. IHM cant build itself, and while we have invested many hours into the games development we still have our limitations as to what we can achieve, both in time and resources. So if you think you can help out in some way, please let us know. Ideally, you should be a fan of hockey, but thats about the only prerequisite.
Main features:
- Game controller, based on a game calendar.
- Multiuser framework
- League framework (Swiss style leagues implemented, including playoffs and relegations).
- Teams, with statistics and informations.
- Players with attributes, statistics, contracts and informations.
