GCC Introspector 0.7

GCC Introspector 0.7

GCC Introspector is a Perl/RDF/XML/SQL interface to the GNU Compiler Collection. more>>
The Introspector enables the programming tools that deal with source code such as the compiler to communicate in a standard and neutral manner reducing the accidental cost of programming.

Like a telephone switchboard connects many parties who might wish to talk to each other, the Introspector allows multiple consumers and producers of data about software to quickly and painlessly transfer information to each other.

This data about software, or meta-data is read and written in and out of existing software tools via a standardized plug-in interface. Each producer has its own flavour of data and format of data that it stores about your software, and the introspector allows for each software to speak its native language.

The Introspector plug ins act analogous to network cards in an ethernet allowing for broadcasting of the meta-data to the network of consumers.

The usage of RDF or Resources Description Format as the underlying representation is of essential importance. RDF is the foundation of the next generation of the internet, the Semantic Web where hypertext links is replaced by meaningful references to resources of type and quality.

The introspector uses the excellent Redland RDF Application Framework for parsing/serializing, storing/retrieving and querying/traversing the RDF data. The Berkley DB storage mechanism provides an efficent indexing system, and the SWIG Simplified Wrapper Interface Generator provides native langauge interfaces for all major programming systems.

The GCC interface uses Redland to create repositories of data that can be processed by any tool needed. Experiments have been made with compiling this graph data into arrays, so called "ICE Cubes" that can be traversed even quicker than the redland database.

This new technology when available will be able to be used from the same introspector API that gives access to Redland.

eSpeak 1.28

eSpeak 1.28

eSpeak is a software speech synthesizer for English, and potentially other languages. more>>
eSpeak is a software speech synthesizer for English, and potentially other languages.
eSpeak produces good quality English speech. It uses a different synthesis method from other open source TTS engines, and sounds quite different. Its perhaps not as natural or "smooth", but I find the articulation clearer and easier to listen to for long periods.
eSpeak project can run as a command line program to speak text from a file or from stdin. It works well as a "Talker" with the KDE text to speech system (KTTS), as an alternative to Festival for example. As such, it can speak text which has been selected into the clipboard, or directly from the Konquerer browser or the Kate editor.
- Includes different Voices, whose characteristics can be altered.
- Can produce speech output as a WAV file.
- Can translate text to phoneme codes, so it could be adapted as a front end for another speech synthesis engine.
- Potential for other languages. Rudimentary (and probably humourous) attempts at German and Esperanto are included.
- Compact size. The program and its data total about 350 kbytes.
- Written in C++.
I regularly use it to listen to blogs and news sites. I prefer the sound through a domestic stereo system rather than my small computer speakers.
INSTALLATION:
- Place the "speak" executable file in the command path, eg in /usr/local/bin
- Place the "speak-data" directory in /usr/share as /usr/share/speak-data.
Alternatively if it is placed in the users home directory (i.e. /home/ /speak-data) then that will be used instead.
- Dependencies.
speak uses the PortAudio sound library, so you will need to have the libportaudio0 library package installed. It may be already, since its used by other software, such as OpenOffice.org and the Audacity sound editor.
COMMAND OPTIONS:
Examples
To use at the command line, type:
speak -f < text file >
Or just type
speak
followed by text on subsequent lines. Each line is spoken when RETURN is pressed. Use speak -p to see the corresponding phonemes codes.
echo "This is a test" | speak
Speaking from a single line command.
Enhancements:
- Roman number translation added for some languages.
- Improvements to languages, including en-r, Hungarian, Romanian.
- Various bug fixes.

Speak Freely for Unix 7.6.a

Speak Freely for Unix 7.6.a

Speak Freely is an application for Unix and Unix-like systems which allows you to talk . more>>
Speak Freely is an application for Unix and Unix-like systems (Linux, FreeBSD, IRIX, etc.) with audio hardware, which allows you to talk (actually send voice, not typed characters) over a network. Speak Freely for Unix uses the workstation audio hardware and network to allow conversations of users over the network.

The phone company never gives you a break! You pay a fortune for a leased line connection to the Internet, and you *still* have to pay every time you want to chat with somebody, even though youre both sitting in front of workstations with digital audio capability, linked by a fast network. Speak Freely for Unix can intercommunicate with

Workstations on local area networks can generally communicate with excellent audio quality and response. A software implementation (developed by Jutta Degener and Carsten Bormann, Technische
Universitaet Berlin) of the compression algorithm used in GSM digital cellular telephones allows operation over Internet links of modest bandwidth. By using GSM compression in conjunction with sample interpolation, the data rate can be reduced to about 9600 baud. Users with CPUs too slow or two heavily loaded to perform GSM compression and decompression in real time may select less compact but quicker to
execute ADPCM coding, using an implementation developed by Jack Jansen of the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

TeamSpeak 2 2.0.32.60

TeamSpeak 2 2.0.32.60

Teamspeak is a quality, scalable application which enables people to speak with one another over the Internet. more>>
Teamspeak is a quality, scalable application which enables people to speak with one another over the Internet. Teamspeak consists of both client and server software. The Teamspeak server acts as a host to multiple client connections, capable of handling literally thousands of simultaneous users.

This results in an Internet based teleconferencing solution that works in a variety of applications such as team mates speaking with one another while playing their favorite online game, small businesses cutting costs on long distance charges, or for personal communication with friends and family.

Among Teamspeaks incredible range of features are crystal clear voice communication, Windows/Linux cross-platform design for both the client and server, a built-in web based administration panel for the server, and a highly scalable user permissions system.

An added feature to Authorized Teamspeak Host Providers (ATHPs) that wish to rent servers to their customers includes the ability to spawn multiple instances of the server from a single server session, thus easily facilitating "server-farming".

MyPhotoAlbum 3.2.2

MyPhotoAlbum 3.2.2

MyPhotoAlbum is a web photo album in PHP. more>>
MyPhotoalbum is a PHP software that allows to easily create and maintain photo albums in the World Wide Web.
The project was developed by Phill Kenoyer, starting more than four years ago, and he decided that the development was complete for his needs about two years and a half ago.
Then I (Tirs Abril) found it in Freshmeat and I really liked it, but I have some needs the program did not cover (i.e. multi-language, because some of my friends dont speak Spanish and some others dont speak English), so I decided to continue development.
It needs only a PHP-capable web server (at least Apache, not tested in others yet, please let me know the results if you try). No SQL databases nor any other software needed (well, maybe a text editor if you want to change the default settings and/or create the picture descriptions comfortably, but who doesnt have vi or notepad?).
It is multi-language, so you can create albums in serveral languages. Currently I include Spanish, English and Japanese, but you can easily add your own. See the directory MANUAL, especially the file USAGE, for details.
It allows a different "look-and-feel" (colour schemes, etc) for each album, or maybe just for a few "special" albums while the rest have a default look, via CSS files.
Enhancements:
- Batch uploading and automatic resizing were added.
- Batch uploading allows you to upload many images at once in the form of a zip file.
- Automatic resizing means that uploaded images will be automatically resized down to a predefined (configurable) size if they are too big.
