Heroes project is a Nibbles-like game, just better. more>>
Heroes project is a Nibbles-like game, just better.
Heroes is similar to the "Tron" and "Nibbles" games of yore, but includes many graphical improvements and new game features.
In it, you must maneuver a small vehicle around a world and collect powerups while avoiding obstacles, your opponents trails, and even your own trail.
There are five game modes available. Quest is the classical Nibbles, in Death Match you start with very long tails and must kill your opponents, in Killem All you must run over lemmings moving on the ground, in Time Cash or Color modes you must collect money or pyramids of color. Heroes features 12 original sound tracks, 94 levels (in 10 different tile sets) plus a level editor.
Heroes source code (distributed under the GNU General Public Licence version 2) originates from an original MS-DOS game but has been heavily modified to enhance the portability. Some new features have been added and MS-DOS support has been lost by the meantime. The original MS-DOS version can still be found on the Internet but is unmaintained and should be considered obsolete.
The current development concentrates on cleaning the code and porting the game to the various operating systems available. Our objective is to release the version 1.0 as a clean and portable base that would allow significant additions such as network support or programmable vehicles.
Enhancements:
- Support for the heroes-hq-sound-tracks package.
Bug fixes:
- soundconf: failed to override aliases.
- Heroes GGI driver failed to report an error if no two-frame mode was available.
- Various code nits.

Helherron 2.04

Helherron 2.04

Helherron is a fantasy RPG game for PC computers. more>>
Helherron is a fantasy RPG game for PC computers.

The isle of Helherron is at chaos. Beloved King Krohl has been kidnapped. Nobody knows by whom, but the legends are wild. The villagers tell, still shaking in terror, that it was done by dark, winged man-like creatures that took off to the sky shrieking, with poor King Krolh with them.

And worse yet, the isles seem to be cursed somehow. Its hard to determine how, but you sure can feel it. It hangs in the air heavy, like a Shadow of Death, and you can see it shimmering bloody red in the horizon of the night sky.

The villagers tell that just lately, after King Krolh was kidnapped, their villages have been raided by grotesque cross-breeds between man and beast. Most apparently that is also due to the Curse placed over Helherron and its sister isles. But the worst is yet to be told.

The Divine Sceptre, given to the people of Helherron by the Divine Cleric Order and crafted by the Creator itself, which was at King Krolhs possession, is now missing too. It was most apparently stolen at the same time King Krolh was kidnapped. Thus, the only hope for Helherron is to send a party of heroes to find the Divine Sceptre so that order and peace can be once again returned.

Freebooters 0.2.2

Freebooters 0.2.2

Freebooters project is a Pirates! clone based on SDL. more>>
Freebooters project is a "Pirates!" clone based on SDL.
Freebooters is a strategy/action game set in the Caribbean Sea during the golden age of piracy.
It is based on the game mechanics of Sid Meiers "Pirates!", but is not an exact clone and uses neither code nor copyrighted material from the original.
The Caribbean Sea in the late 16th century: The Dutch, French, English and Spanish crown aim to expand their areas of influence.
You as an suspicious young captain are trying to make the best of it, as you may either become a brave merchant soul, a freebooting hero of your crown or a bloodlusty dreaded pirate leader.
Freebooters will hopefully become a free clone of the Sid Meier classic Pirates!. Its written in C++ using SDL and licensed under the GNU General Public License.
Main features:
- Gameplay:
- Some of the crucial game mechanisms already work, but they need to be improved a lot, both with regard to features (refine the mechanisms, simulate more realistically) and to playability (how hard is a game, do certain features make sense at all?)
- Several core elements are missing (e.g. fencing duels with other captains, attacking a harbour from the seaside)
- Therell be a lot more harbours all over the Caribbean Sea
- Most game data is bogus (such as features of the ships, harbours, history etc.) and has to be replaced with realistic ones
- Therell be a career mode and a mission mode
- Tech:
- The current menus are mostly prototypes, theyll be replaced with clickable images maps, which are yet to be raytraced. However, the game will always be comfortably playable with the keyboard only.
- The current selection of targets on the map is a prototype as well. It will be replaced with a navigatable sea map as in the original game. There is already a demo world as a separate binary called seapassagedemo. For the 0.3 release this will be integrated along with the full map data.
- Lots of tuning and other improvements are needed
- Multiplayer capabilities over IP will be tackled once the game is properly in shape for single player games and the game mechanisms are fully established
- This is an item for the very far future, for a foreseeable timeframe Freebooters will be singleplayer only like the original.

Perilar 0.4

Perilar 0.4

Perilar is a fast, simple computer role-playing game (CRPG), with an epic quest! more>>
Perilar is a simple, fast computer role-playing game (CRPG), with an epic quest! You will cross a vast monster-infested wilderness to the dungeons to recover ancient weapons and artifacts, then to the dragons lairs, then face the final challenge...

Version 0.4 is a beta release for designing the gameplay, and future versions will have additional art, music, and sound effects.

Save Game Warning: Savefiles from previous versions will not be compatible with later versions until 1.0. At that point, Ill make sure they are always forward-compatible, but it hampers rapid development until then. Sorry for the trouble, but at least youll get to see the new world features in each version!

History

Over a thousand years ago, the world was a peaceful but primitive place. Humans lived in tribal societies, rarely warred, and there were few dangerous animals and no monsters. Your kingdom, Perilar, was one of the safest, as it was protected by four great dragons of Air, Earth, Fire, and Water.

Where the Vampire King came from, nobody knows. He appeared in the far north and turned peaceful farmers into berserker raiders. After conquering the island kingdom of Oradon, he turned their druids to necromancy, raising armies of the dead to war on the next kingdom. Kingdom after kingdom fell, and in each, the people were slain and raised as undead warriors to assault the next kingdom.

As the army of the undead approached Perilar, the dragons closed the kingdom off with a magical seal. For a thousand years, the kingdom has been trapped inside, and none know the fate of the outside world.

In recent times, the seals have begun to fail. The Dragons have not been seen in centuries. Undead and monsters march in towards the castle of King Phalan and the village of Perilar, home to the last free people in the world. A great hero must do something about this, and you are determined to be that hero!

polyBSD 0.1

polyBSD 0.1

polyBSD is a multi-purpose (hence poly) framework for building embedded systems based on NetBSD. more>>
polyBSD is a "multi"-purpose (hence "poly") framework for building embedded systems based on NetBSD.

Of the three major *BSD flavors, FreeBSD and OpenBSD are often in the spotlight.
FreeBSD is touted for its stability, while OpenBSD usually claims the title of
the most secure operatin system available.

However, the third flavor (NetBSD) is what many consider to be the unsung hero - it has features that rival those of both FreeBSD and OpenBSD however is not often seen in the news. NetBSD has arguably the cleanest code base of all open source operating systems this fact has unforseen effect on its overall features. The reason for
NetBSDs clean code is the its stated goal to run on as many hardware architecture
as possible. In order to do that, the team behind NetBSD has been forced to write
code that is portable and easy to debug.

Portable code is achieved by using mostly libraries and functions that are likely to compile and run well on most platforms. In addition, in order to be able to reliably port the code to over 40 different architecture, the code has to be well written so that a large group of people can look at and understand it well so they can modify it easily and port it to a new architecture. But how does that translate into stability and security touted by FreeBSD and OpenBSD respectively. Well, clean code usually translates directly into stability - one cant expect a messy code to perform well or be easy to debug.

Clean code also leads to improved security - security bugs are easy to spot and
correct. Also the portability of the code ensures that only standard libraries
and functions are used. However, those standard libarries and functions are the
ones that have been around longer, which means they have been well tested and are
likely to contain the fewest number of security bugs.

The one feature that FreeBSD had long been able to claim exclusively is that in
terms of performance it blows all other *BSD flavors out of the water when it
comes to the i386 architecture.

However, this crown was recently captured by NetBSD thanks to an extensive performance benchmarking, the results of which are referenced on the section "NetBSD tools" on this site. So to sum it all up, NetBSD is no longer simply the portability prodigy on the block. It is a fast, rock-solid and secure operating system that can successfully meet the demands of the modern enterprise. Thats the reason for it being used by the people behind this project to build some tools that will hopefully be useful.

- Frink is a full-fledged programming language with arrays, dictionaries, functions, loops, even object-oriented programming and self-evaluation.
- Frink allows Object-Oriented Programming, which allows you to create complex data structures that are still easy to use.
- Java Introspection layer allows you to call any Java code from within Frink.
- Frink can also be embedded in a Java program, giving your Java programs all the power of Frink.
- Did I mention its free? If you find it useful, please donate something. Id really appreciate it!
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a problem in break statements that might lead to a "Break statement used outside a loop" error.

arianne 0.12

arianne 0.12

arianne is a multiplayer online game engine project. more>>
Arianne is a multiplayer online games framework and engine to develop turn based and real time games.

It provides a simple way of creating games on a portable and robust server architecture. The server is coded in Java and uses Python for your game description, provides a MySQL backend and uses an UDP transport channel to communicate with dozens of players.

Our reference client engines are coded using Java and the C language in order to achieve maximum portability.

Arianne has been in development since 1999 and has evolved from a tiny application written in pseudo-C++ to a powerful, expandable but simple server framework, running on the Java platform, and a portable client framework, written in bare C to allow total portability of ariannes clients. Ariannes server is totally client agnostic.

Since the beginning, the key concept at the heart of Ariannes development has been KISS: Keep it simple, stupid!

Arianne games are playable. It now hosts several games:

* a multiplayer Gladiators fighting game
* a multiplayer Pacman game

All our efforts are supported by ariannes server: Marauroa.

Marauroa is completely written in Java using a multithreaded server architecture with a UDP oriented network protocol, a MySQL based persistence engine and a flexible game system. The game system is totally expandable and modifiable by game developers and is able to run Python scripts defining the games rules.

Marauroa is based on a design philosophy we called Action/Perception. Each turn a perception is send to the clients explaining what they currently perceive. Clients can ask the server to perform any action in their name using actions. Marauroa is totally game agnostic and makes very little assumptions about what are you trying to do, allowing a great freedom to create any game type.

Bugs are facts of life, they just happen.

On Arianne we care about code quality so code is fully tested using Test Units with JUnit and cppunit, so all modules are tested for most common cases, allowing a better quality software to be deployed.

The name originated from the Greek name Ariadne. (Latin; Arianna and from French; Arianne). Ariadne is a famous character in Greek mythology. She was the daughter of King Minos of Crete and she was in love with Theseus, the Athenian hero who killed the Minotaur ( a half human, half bull creature).

Theseus married her, however, then later left her alone on the island of Naxos. Ariadne later married Dionisos the God of Wine. The name Ariadne originates from the ancient Greek words ari which means intelligent and adnis which means pure (as in a virgin). Hence, the daughters of the Romans and Greeks where often called by this name.

DOFUS is a popular masive multiplayer RPG online game. more>>
DOFUS is a popular masive multiplayer RPG online game.

Story:

A long time ago....

.. a dragon named Bolgrot arrived in the eternal Province of Amakna. The young Rykke Errel was the only one to be courageous enough to face the terrible creature.
Instead of reducing him to dust as it could easily have done it, the dragon bowed down before the young knight and swore loyalty to him.

Months passed by...

Rykke met Helsephine, a young enchantress, and fell madly in love with her. When he introduced Helsephine to Bolgrot, Rykke would never have guessed what was about to happen.
The dragon, mad with rage, killed the sweet Helsephine and flew away, destroying everything on its way.
Rykke chased the dragon. When he found it, the old friends confronted each other in a titanic fight. Using his weapons and his magic, Rykke succeeded to bring Bolgrot down. But fatally injured, the young hero died short after.

Looking for an explanation...

... about the sudden violence of Bolgrot, the wise men of Amakna discovered within the entrails of the dragon six unusually colored eggs that were called DOFUS. Later on, it was discovered that when these eggs were reunited their power was absolute.

Absolute, but also unstable. The wise men decided to conceal those terrible relics from the rest of the world.

During the following centuries,

the secret of the existence of the DOFUS was so well kept that people eventually forgot all about them. But a cursed day among others, the guardians of the secret discovered that the DOFUS had disappeared. The news quickly spread, arousing terror and covetousness.

It didnt take long for adventurers to show up in Amakna, attracted by the prospect of glory or plunder. The destiny of Amakna was from then on uncertain and the appearance of numerous creatures as terrifying as theyre unknown added to the confusion.
