Hotclient 0.1

Hotclient 0.1

Hotclient provides an authentication client for users of Hotwire Internet connections. more>>
Hotclient provides an authentication client for users of Hotwire Internet connections.

Currently hotclient is available as
. linux shell application
. Windows command line application
. Perl Command line - Platform Independent under the GNU - General Public License

Hotwire - Internet Private Limited is an ISP which provides 24-7 always on Internet connections. You can visit them at http://www.hotwireindia.net. I do not claim any affiliation with Hotwire or Primus Telecommunications India Limited (the parent company) or anybody else thereof. I am just a user of Hotwire services and promise to abide by their terms of usage/service.

Why Hotclient?
People would ask wasnt the authentication software provided by Primus good enough. Well their software can be got from their website at http://hotwireindia.net/Hotwire.exe. Other clients are available as well at the below links

But I have a actual 24-7 connection. Whenever the network fails or the server goes down for a reboot all these clients just exit out of the program.
Well .....Hello! Im not at my desk at all times. What I needed was a client which picks up the connection as and when it becomes available again so that my downloads would continue. Hence the first version for Linux was born (Im better at gcc than VC, besides i dont actually have a valid copy of VC). The Perl version started and was finished on the same day.

Once I did that well I just went ahead and did the same for Windows. Both the GCC and Win-GCC versions are shell based programs.

Games::Dice 0.02

Games::Dice 0.02

Games::Dice is a Perl module that can be used to simulate dice rolls. more>>
Games::Dice is a Perl module that can be used to simulate dice rolls.

SYNOPSIS

use Games::Dice roll;
$strength = roll 3d6+1;

use Games::Dice roll_array;
@rolls = roll_array 4d8;

Games::Dice simulates die rolls. It uses a function-oriented (not object-oriented) interface. No functions are exported by default. At present, there are two functions which are exportable: roll and roll_array. The latter is used internally by roll, but can also be exported by itself.

The number and type of dice to roll is given in a style which should be familiar to players of popular role-playing games: adb[+-*/b]c. a is optional and defaults to 1; it gives the number of dice to roll. b indicates the number of sides to each die; the most common, cube-shaped die is thus a d6. % can be used instead of 100 for b; hence, rolling 2d% and 2d100 is equivalent. roll simulates a rolls of b-sided dice and adds together the results.

The optional end, consisting of one of +-*/b and a number c, can modify the sum of the individual dice. +-*/ are similar in that they take the sum of the rolls and add or subtract c, or multiply or divide the sum by c. (x can also be used instead of *.) Hence, 1d6+2 gives a number in the range 3..8, and 2d4*10 gives a number in the range 20..80. (Using / truncates the result to an int after dividing.) Using b in this slot is a little different: its short for "best" and indicates "roll a number of dice, but add together only the best few". For example, 5d6b3 rolls five six- sided dice and adds together the three best rolls. This is sometimes used, for example, in roll-playing to give higher averages.

Generally, roll probably provides the nicer interface, since it does the adding up itself. However, in some situations one may wish to process the individual rolls (for example, I am told that in the game Feng Shui, the number of dice to be rolled cannot be determined in advance but depends on whether any 6s were rolled); in such a case, one can use roll_array to return an array of values, which can then be examined or processed in an application-dependent manner.

This having been said, comments and additions (especially if accompanied by code!) to Games::Dice are welcome. So, using the above example, if anyone wishes to contribute a function along the lines of roll_feng_shui to become part of Games::Dice (or to support any other style of die rolling), you can contribute it to the authors address, listed below.

JWebPresenter 1.3

JWebPresenter 1.3

JWebPresenter project is a bitmap-image based Web presenting system. more>>
JWebPresenter project is a bitmap-image based Web presenting system.
It can add a Web extension to your favorite presentation tool, such as PowerPoint, MagicPoint, or Impress.
This is useful in distance learning, meeting, conferencing, and other situations.
It uses bitmap images to avoid compatibility problems. Other features include platform independence and simplicity.
Main features:
- Bitmap image based presenting: Hence we have no compatibility problem related to character corruption, locale, font, ... You can (and you must) use an authoring tool (e.g., PowerPoint, OpenOffice, MagicPoint, etc) to create the slides, then export into images to be presented with JWebPresenter.
- Platform independent: Any system satisfying the requirements should be OK, including Linux PC, Windows PC, PDA Sharp Zaurus SL-C760 (JWebPresenter SS v1.0x).
- Simplicity: I believe simple thing should be done simply. JWebPresenter SS v1.2.1 package (tar.gz) is only 36KB, including source, pre-compiled binarary, document, sample, and a 18KB (uncompressed size) license called GPL!
- Protocol and Image format independent: All protocols and image formats supported by JRE (Java Runtime Enviroment) should be OK.
- Efficience: There is little overhead in JWebPresenter.

tunerd 0.6

tunerd 0.6

tunerd is a very simple daemon to control an FM tuner. more>>
tunerd is a very simple daemon to control an FM tuner. I found that most FM tuner control programs opened the device (/dev/tuner), set the property (frequency), and closed the device again. This is fine on most tuners, but my USB FM tuner always turned off when the device was closed. I needed a program that would always keep the device open - hence tunerd.
Because tunerd always keeps the device open it needs some way to be controlled so that other programs can talk to the FM tuner. To allow this tunerd will listen on a TCP/IP socket for requests to set/get various FM tuner attributes. This package also has another program called setuner which controls the FM tuner by talking to tunerd. I use this to control my FM tuner from a web page and cgi-bin script.
Compile instructions:
./configure
make
Enhancements:
- Fixed minor code compatibility problems and updated configure scripts

Event 1.09

Event 1.09

Event is an Event loop processing. more>>
Event is an Event loop processing.

SYNOPSIS

use Event qw(loop unloop);

# initialize application
Event->flavor(attribute => value, ...);

my $ret = loop();

# and some callback will call
unloop(ok);

The Event module provide a central facility to watch for various types of events and invoke a callback when these events occur. The idea is to delay the handling of events so that they may be dispatched in priority order when it is safe for callbacks to execute.

Events (in the ordinary sense of the word) are detected by watchers, which reify them as events (in the special Event module sense). For clarity, the former type of events may be called "source events", and the latter "target events". Source events, such as signals arriving, happen whether or not they are being watched. If a source event occurs which a watcher is actively watching then the watcher generates a corresponding target event. Target events are only created by watchers. If several watchers are interested in the same source event then each will generate their own target event. Hence, any particular source event may result in zero, one, two, or any number of target events: the same as the number of watchers which were actively watching for it.

Target events are queued to be processed in priority order (priority being determined by the creating watcher) and in FIFO order among events of the same priority. Queued ("pending") events can, in some cases, be cancelled before being processed. A queued event is processed by being passed to the callback function (or method on a particular object or class) which was specified to the watcher.

A watcher, once created, operates autonomously without the Event user having to retain any reference to it. However, keeping a reference makes it possible to modify most of the watchers characteristics. A watcher can be switched between active and inactive states. When inactive, it does not generate target events.

Some types of source event are not reified as target events immediately. Signals received, for example, are counted initially. The counted signals are reified at certain execution points. Hence, signal events may be processed out of order, and if handled carelessly, on the wrong side of a state change in event handling. A useful way to view this is that occurrence of the source event is not actually the arrival of the signal but is triggered by the counting of the signal.
Reification can be forced when necessary. The schedule on which some other events are created is non-obvious. This is especially the case with watchers that watch for a condition rather than an event. In some cases, target events are generated on a schedule that depends on the operation of the event loop.

phpSocketDaemon 1.0

phpSocketDaemon 1.0

phpSocketDaemon is a PHP socket daemon framework that can handle thousands of client and server connections. more>>
phpSocketDaemon is a PHP socket daemon framework that can handle thousands of client and server connections, asynchronously, with built-in buffering, state handling, etc.

The implementation of a new TCP client or server service (or a mix thereof) with this library is very easy, and allows maximum flexibility.

Motivation for writing this library:

This project came into existence while i was writing a new, ground breaking IRC chat web application.

To deal with 1000s of concurrent, always on (comet aka hanging iframe) http (server) connections, and an equal amount of IRC client connections, plus being able to interpret and parse and delegate all the messages and events, i needed a very fast, stable, flexible and easy to use daemon library for PHP.

However no such thing existed yet, hence this library was created.
The tarbal includes a demo HTTP server implimentation, which will give you a good impression of what its capable off, and how to use this library.

Sh 0.8.0 RC1

Sh 0.8.0 RC1

Sh is a programming language built on top of C++. more>>
Sh is a programming language built on top of C++. It can be used to write shaders that run on top of modern graphics processing units (GPUs), or write stream programs that run on GPUs or CPUs.
Sh project is implemented as a C++ library, and allows programs to be generated at run-time using a number of metaprogramming techniques. Variants of programs for different cases can easily be generated, or programs can be generated entirely at run-time from some input data. The system is cleanly separated into a frontend and backend, and is hence portable.
Whats New in 0.7.10 Release:
- Shrike has been updated for Sh 0.8.0rc0.
Whats New in 0.8.0 RC1 Release:
- This is the second release candidate for the stable release of Sh.
- It fixes most issues related to 64-bit operating systems, ATI GPUs, Visual Studio 2005, and Mac OS X.
- Aside from a number of small bugfixes, two memory leaks have also been eliminated and the dead code remover has been improved.
- An SDL example is now available in the examples directory along with Visual Studio project files for all other examples.

DeadMini 1.1

DeadMini 1.1

DeadMini is a tiny distribution designed for modular usage. more>>
DeadMini is a tiny distribution designed for modular usage. DeadMini linux is currently under heavy developement, but so far it contains applications such as dropbear client, midnight command and of course screen.

The main advantage is that it boots anywhere - wherever you can stick the files, use something like syslinux or isolinux to make it boot - and of course make bios boot the medium - it will boot without a trouble. This is because the whole system (currently 5MB, including booting overhead) is copied in RAM without the need to seek the source device. It also boots very fast - minimal bootup time is about 3s (further testing will be done).

It is possibly buggy yet, especially HW autodetection isnt perfect, but it will be developed - the most important issue here is feedback, both bugreports AND patches - the detection is in /sbin/mod-detect.

The point of DeadMini is to be quite modular, hence the aim is to distribute the core system and tools for building, installing and removing packages. Therefore, what you want is dtools and deadcore. Deadcore contains the base system, dtools is set of tools to manage dmp (DeadMini packages) and build the actual iso. You also certainly want the extra modules - otherwise, the only modules inside are for networking. The iso released here is only the core system.

recls 1.8.10

recls 1.8.10

recls (recursive ls) is a platform-independent recursive search library. more>>
recls (recursive ls) is a platform-independent recursive search library.
This library came about as the first exemplar for my C/C++ Users Journal column, Positive Integration, which deals with issues of language integration between C/C++ and a host of other languages.
The library itself is implemented in C/C++, but presents a pure C API. It is compatible with UNIX and Win32 operating systems (though the FTP recursive searching is currently Win32-only), and is compatible with most popular C/C++ compilers, including:
- Borland (v5.51+)
- Comeau (v4.3.0.1+)
- Metrowerks CodeWarrior (v8.x+)
- Digital Mars (v8.40+)
- GCC (v3.2+)
- Intel (v7.0+)
- Microsoft Visual C++ (v6.0+)
Note that the base library requires components from the STLSoft libraries (which is another open-source library Im involved with).
In addition to the base library, there are mappings to several other languages/technologies. Currently these are
"regular" C++
- D
- COM
- .NET (C# and Managed C++)
- Perl
- Python
- Ruby
- STL
Enhancements:
- In the core, Recls_SearchFeedback() (and, hence, Recls_Search()) was fixed for the case when both searchRoot and pattern are NULL; general fixes were made for Unicode compilation.
- In recls/C++, fixes were made to namespace-exports for shims for Recls::Entry class.
- In recls/STL, general fixes were made for Unicode compilation.

Device::ISDN::OCLM 0.40

Device::ISDN::OCLM 0.40

Device::ISDN::OCLM is a perl module to control the 3com OfficeConnect LanModem. more>>
Device::ISDN::OCLM is a perl module to control the 3com OfficeConnect LanModem.

SYNOPSIS

$sp = 1;
$pw = secret;
$lanmodem = Device::ISDN::OCLM->new ();
$lanmodem->password ($pw);
$command = manualConnect;
$status = $lanmodem->$command ($sp);
while (($status eq CLOCK) || ($status eq PASSWORD) ||
($status eq CONNECTING) || ($status eq LOGGING IN)) {
if ($status eq CLOCK) {
sleep (1);
$status = $lanmodem->setClock ();
} elsif ($status eq PASSWORD) {
sleep (1);
$status = $lanmodem->enterPasword ();
} elsif (($status eq CONNECTING) || ($status eq LOGGING IN)) {
$command = connectStatus;
$status = OK;
}
if ($status eq OK) {
sleep (1);
$status = $lanmodem->$command ($sp);
}
}
print "$statusn";

This module can be used to control the 3com OfficeConnect LanModem, an ISDN TA/router. Device statistics can be queried and manual connections can be brought up and taken down. Support is provided for setting the clock if the device is power-cycled, and for automatically entering the password if the device is password-protected.

All operations that access the device return a status code indicating whether the operation was successful or not; and, if not, why. For example, if you attempt to query device statistics and the device is locked then the status code will indicate this fact, allowing you to enter the password and retry the operation. Hence the loop in the above synopsis.

This module does not perform these loops internally in an effort to allow it to be embedded within a controlling application such as the oclm Perl command-line application, and a GNOME/GTK graphical user interface that is available separately.
This module has a few warts; some are mandated by the device itself and some are the fault of the author.
