linHDD 0.4

linHDD 0.4

linHDD is a hard drive utility. more>>
linHDD is a hard drive utility. Frontend to several functions of basic Linux drive utilities: hdparm, cfdisk, df, and mkfs.

Nice to add a second drive from the GUI. Or use it to display free space, extended drive information and test read-speed. A convenience app, it can save a user time, avoid problems from typos and presents a friendly interface to newcomers and those who would rather not memorize console-based commands.

The initial release only deals with ide hard drives, no scsi/sata -- only because I dont have the board/drive(s) to test them with. Should be a simple matter of adding cat /proc/scsi/scsi stuff. But if I cant test it then I cannot, in good conscious, write it.

linHDD acts as a fontend for some basic Linux tools, which should all be on your machine already. hdparm gives the detailed drive information shown in the large textbox. Also enables testing the HDD read speed in MB/s. df, (which lists mounted devices), mkfs and its relatives for formatting (supporting ext2, ext3, reiserfs, xfs, jfs -- if they are supported on your machine.) And cfdisk pops up if you choose to partition a drive.

For safety and sanity I designed linHDD so that it will not allow any partitioning on a mounted Hard Drive. Nor will it allow formatting on a mounted partition. And lastly, ANY partitioning or formatting must be done as root. Below is a shot of the response when trying to partition a drive when one of its partitions was already mounted.

You can run linHDD as user (as opposed to root) and check out your drive space, all the detailed drive information in the textbox and even run the speed tests. You simply wont be able to format or partition.

hdd monitor 1.3.2

hdd monitor 1.3.2

hdd monitor displays your hard disk drives and removable devices dynamically. more>>
hdd monitor displays your hard disk drives and removable devices dynamically. Need python-qt3 and python-imaging in order to work.

Here i come again !!

Sorry for all this mess with 1.3.* , as always i forgot things, and didnt do enough testing...

I am recruiting beta-testers !! Please send me a mail if you are interested.

Although this is still WIP (Work In Progress) for me, i release it. (I promised myself i wont make you wait too long, as i hate to wait for a new version of a program)

Now with the skins you can all get rid of the "hdd meter" text.

---- Some rules about the skins ----

The skin must be of 4 files, named as follow :
* top.png : the top of the theme
* bottom.png : need an explanation ?
* hdd.png : the background image of each and every device
* vumeter.png : the bar image itself

The images can be any size, the only thing you have to do is create a skin.conf (there is an example in the package) with the x and y positions of the bar on the hdd.png.

----- Next version info -----

For the next release i will focus on the configuration window, because it causes me problems to get the whole theme in a .skz file.

I will also be working on cool new features requested by a friend of mine, hdd monitor will rock soon !!

graphics based on the telemonitor by Shanachie (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=35983)

Ask for any feature you want, ill try and do it if i got enough time.

Linux ATI CPU HDD Control Daemon 0.4.6

Linux ATI CPU HDD Control Daemon 0.4.6

Linux ATI CPU HDD Control Daemon is able to reduce power consumption in a laptop by scaling back CPU, GPU and HDD. more>>
Linux ATI CPU HDD Control Daemon is able to reduce power consumption in a laptop by scaling back CPU, GPU (Radeon only), and HDD.
It uses CPUFreq, ACPI, HDDTemp, and internal functions. It also checks for thermal overheating for the sake of laptop health.
Now implementing an app scheduling for running aplications when the laptop is on low cpu usage and AC connected. Its still necessary to recompile lach to set the programs to run.
Also im implementing a TCP daemon for non-root users can change the CPU speed withou having to be root. This option will be disabled by default for security reasons, when it is 100% functional it will be added as default configuration.
The makefile now implements arquitecture compiler optimizations, see makefile before compile.
Ive programmed this like a hobbie (who the hell has programming as an hobbie) so, if something isnt in the best way I realy thank people that mail me with ideas for some of the algorithms and functions implementations.
Enhancements:
- A little code cleanup in lach-scaling.c and lach-ati_scaling.c.
- Changes in show_status().
- A compiler change option.
- get_system_version() has been reworked, and is now get_system_config().
- A kernel /proc/config.gz configuration file.
- Changes in the readme, the -k option, and in hddtempd().
- The indentation has been changed to Kernighan and Ritchie.
- System error messages have been added in the panic routine.
- This release logs computer status on emergency shutdown for debugging.

dvdauthor 0.6.13

dvdauthor 0.6.13

dvdauthor is a simple set of tools to help you author a DVD. more>>
dvdauthor is a simple set of tools to help you author a DVD. The idea is to be able to create menus, buttons, chapters, etc, but for now you can just take an mpeg stream (as created by mplex -f 8 from mjpegtools 1.6.0) and write it to DVD.
dvdauthor is a program that will generate a DVD movie from a valid mpeg2 stream that should play when you put it in a DVD player.
To start you need mpeg files that contain the necessary DVD VOB packets. These can be generated by passing -f 8 to mplex. See the included utility makevob.
There are 3 steps to building the DVD directory structure on your HDD.
1. Delete a previously authored dvd
dvddirdel [-o dir]
WARNING! This will delete without discrimination the contents of the directory that you specify!
2. Create your titlesets
dvdauthor [-o dir] [audio/video/subpicture options] [chapters]
To create 1 chapter per mpeg, simply do
dvdauthor [-o dir] [a/v/s options] chap1.mpg chap2.mpg chap3.mpg...
To manually specify chapters, use the --chapters option
dvdauthor [-o dir] [a/v/s options] -c chap1a.mpg chap1b.mpg -c chap2a.mpg chap2b.mpg ....
To add chapters every fifteen minutes, do
dvdauthor [-o dir] [a/v/s options] -c 0,15:00,30:00,45:00,1:00:00,1:15:00... longvideo.mpg
Call dvdauthor for each titleset you want to create. Note that due to the DVD standard, all audio, video, and subpicture options must be set once for the entire titleset; i.e. you cannot mix pal and ntsc video in the same titleset. For that you must generate separate titlesets.
Run dvdauthor -h to see the audio, video, and subpicture options. Note that dvdauthor can autodetect most parameters except the language.
3. Create the table of contents
dvdauthor -T [-o dir]
Viola! You now have a DVD directory structure that will probably work! You can now write this out to your DVD, mini-DVD (CD), or just play it from your HDD. To generate the UDF image to burn to DVD, use mkisofs from cdrtools-1.11a27 or later. Simply pass it the -dvd-video option.
BTW, if you have an old HDD that you use for generating dvd images, you can create /usr/local/etc/dvdauthor.conf or ~/.dvdauthorrc and add the line:
WORKDIR=foo
Then you wont need to specify -o to dvddirgen or dvdauthor. Alternatively, you could just set
WORKDIR=mydvd
to always have it create a DVD in the current working directory.
Enhancements:
- Support of VOBUs without audio or video has been added.
- Reading from file descriptors for VOBs, palette, and XML has been implemented.
- Support for really long subtitles and for full sized PTS/SCR has been added.
- Audio type detection logic has been improved.
- Runtime memory requirement has been substantially reduced.
- YUV handling in spuunmux and subgen has been fixed.
- SVCD subtitling has been fixed.
- NTSC 3:2 pulldown handling has been fixed.
- Handling of audio packets that have no PTS has been fixed.
- Many more minor bugs have been fixed and features have been added. Documentation has been improved.

goPod project allows you to remove the EU Volume limitation from 3rd and 4th generation iPods, and iPod minis.

goPod is a command line program that allows you to remove the EU Volume limitation on EU iPods.

We cant be held responsible for the use you make with this program or any damage it could cause to you iPod.

It is provided for information purpose only. Moreover, uncapping your iPod and using it is illegal in France.

Usage:

To apply the tweak, you may have to launch your iPod in HDD mode. To do so, in iTunes, select your iPod and click on the disk icon on the lower-right part of the iTunes window.

Launch goPod. Just click go to cap it/uncap your iPod. If it is not detected, clicking go will make goPod trying to detect it again.

JUST CLICK ON GO ONCE, it may take some time (5 seconds). I know its a bit "slow", but this is for compatibility reasons.

Once your iPod is capped/uncapped, you *may* have to restart it. To do so, press the menu button and the central button during 3 seconds if you are using a 4G iPod or the menu and play buttons if you have a 3G until you can see an apple.

This reboot should be automatic.

Chango 1.0

Chango 1.0

Chango is a system for cacheing MP3 files from multidisc cdrom drives. more>>
Chango is a system for cacheing MP3 files from multidisc cdrom drives. Since you cant actually mount different discs in the same physical device simultaneously, this software will cache the files you need off to a predetermined cache, so that all of the needed files will be available simultaneously.

This is how to configure it for your system;

Edit the drives.conf file in accordance to how your machine is set up. The included .conf file shows two drives, each holding a max of 4 discs.

/dev/cdrom0:/mnt/cdrom0:4
/dev/cdrom1:/mnt/cdrom1:4

I setup symlinks in /dev from /dev/cdrom0 to /dev/hdc and a second one from /dev/cdrom1 to /dev/hdd. Make sure these are read/execute by the user who will be running the software. I am using a RedHat distro, so all mounted devices will end up in /mnt. so, my /etc/fstab shows the following:

/dev/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom0 iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0

So, by looking at both files, you should see that there is a corrolation between the two.

At this point, you should be able to mount /mnt/cdrom0 as whatever user will be running the script. As well, you should be able to change disks using eject -c 2 /dev/cdrom0 to swap disks.

Run the scandrives.pl script. perl scandrives.pl This will scan the CDs in the drives, and create the database files based on the mp3s. It should show you the directories it is working through as its working. If it notices that the cd is the same as the one it had already scanned, it will skip it. (This is so that if you change just one disc, you can re-run the app, and it will only do the full work on the new or changed discs.)

EasyH10 1.5

EasyH10 1.5

EasyH10 is an open source project for the development of a software suite for iRiver H10 digital audio players. more>>
EasyH10 is an open source project for the development of a software suite for iRiver H10 digital audio players. The project creates the database layout for an H10 player, without the need for iRiver Plus or Windows Media Player 10, based on music and playlist files transferred manually (e.g., drag-and-drop operation, copy command, rsync utility, etc).
EasyH10 is compatible with iriver H10 5GB, 6GB, and 20GB models shipped worldwide as well as various platforms such as Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, Linux, MacOS X, and other POSIX-like operating systems.
EasyH10 is for whom?
EasyH10 is for those users who know a bit about digital audio players and have become more accustomed to doing things the better way rather than the "newbie" way. In contrast with iRiver Plus and Windows Media Player 10, EasyH10 does not incorporate unnecessary and cumbersome features:
- Converting a music CD into music files (since we have excellent sources of free software, e.g., Exact Audio Copy, CDex, and LAME).
- Editing media information (since e.g., MP3TAG and The GodFather will do).
- Transferring music/playlist files from a local HDD to your iriver H10 player (since drag-and-drop with Explorer or rsync will do).
- Creating playlists from scratch on demand (e.g., WinAmp or foobar2000).
Whether a user finds integrated software useful or annoying depends on his or her level of knowledge regarding electronics, digital audio players in particular. Some users (including me) may prefer other excellent software for performing the tasks listed above. EasyH10 assumes a user is able to:
- Prepare music files with tag information (a good idea, but no mandatory any longer)
- Transfer music files to the iRiver H10 player without syncronization software
- Create playlist files through existing software
Do the above steps seem fairly easy? Then EasyH10 does just two remaining tasks for your H10 player, before it is ready to use:
- Media database construction, which is a necessary process for an H10 player to display song information in MUSIC mode.
- Playlist conversion, which is also a necessary process for your playlist files to become compatible (recognizable) with an H10 player.
Enhancements:
- [common] Added Hebrew support, which arranges artist/album/title/genre names in reversed order. Although the H10 firmware cant display a string in right-to-left language correctly, EasyH10 tries to improve this situation by flipping Hebrew letters in the database. EasyH10 [Win32 GUI] activates this routine automatically when running on the Hebrew locale, but one can disable it by setting LanguageRightToLeft variable to -1 in easyh10.ini. EasyH10 [CUI] uses the routine only when option -b (--bidi) is specified. The flipping routine was written by David Kohen.
- [POSIX CUI] Added automatic detection of a system character-encoding. EasyH10 detects the character encoding of the current system if its not specified with -e option.
- [POSIX CUI] Options -n, -i, and -c for database construction were removed for simplicity. EasyH10 [CUI] now has two options: -C (database rebuild) and -U (database update).
- [POSIX CUI] Show an error message when EasyH10 cannot initialize the routine for converting multi-byte characters to UCS-2.
- [POSIX CUI] Crash fix for MP3 files without read permission.
- [POSIX CUI] Crash fix for MP3 files with compilation flags enabled but with empty artist names. This fix was submitted by Carsten Pfeiffer (#1539139)
- [POSIX CUI] Bug fix for an incorrect usage of returned codes from iconv.
- [POSIX CUI] Updated the man-page.
