Red Hat Linux 9

Red Hat Linux 9

Red Hat Linux is probably the best-known Linux distribution. more>>
Red Hat Linux is probably the best-known Linux distribution. Red Hat Linux is well-supported by commercial software, and tends to be easy to install and have good hardware support out of the box.

Compaq has taken over the maintenance for Red Hat for their Alpha processor - theres a link to their Alpha Red Hat page below.

Red Hat 9 is the last version of Red Hat Linux per se, and Red Hat will stop supporting it soon. Instead they offer a commercial Linux distribution, "Red Hat Enterprise Edition", and a free distribution, "The Fedora Project".

Kadet 2.09d

Kadet 2.09d

Kadet is a multi-purpose server written in C. more>>
Kadet is a multi-purpose server written in C. It is highly extensible, well written, equipped with a great set of libraries including scripting, persistent database, object memory management, etc. Its very easy to develop this application.
Although the modules are designed with portability in mind, currently Kadet will most probably work on Linux only since the current focus is workability. It has been tested on Red Hat 7.2 and 7.3.
Main features:
- Multi-threaded
- Easy configuration
- Easy to develop
- Built-in interpreter
- SSL
- Extensible
- a lot more
Enhancements:
- Finally added autoconf. Still missing a lot of platforms but it looks like a good start, hopefully.
- Now the executable is not run directly. Controlling the server is done through the shell script /opt/kadet/bin/kadet. The file /usr/bin/kadet is now a link to that script. The executable is /opt/kadet/bin/kadetex. After installing, try: "kadet" to display a help screen.

camwatch 0.2

camwatch is a very lightweight program for Unix / X Windows that fetches, displays, and optionally archives pictures from webcams.
It requires recent versions of imlib (not imlib2) and libcurl. I develop it under Red Hat Linux. I havent intentionally put anything Linux-specific into it, but I dont test it anywhere else, and Im not intimately familiar with the subtle differences between libcs and such, so YMMV.
camwatch works for me but poorly. It will probably work even worse for you. Let me know.
camwatch was originally written by cblack, but his website has disappeared and his last known email address bounces. So, Ive appropriated the project; if anyone knows this cblack and want to direct me to him, Id love to get in touch and see if he wants it back or wants to pass it to me more formally.
There are big future plans for camwatch, but I tend to do things in fits and spurts, so I finally decided to call my hackings version 0.1 and release it, so here it is. Update: Another fit and spurt; version 0.2 exists now.
Enhancements:
- Fixed broken -s flag for selecting archive dir
- Fixed bug where window was showing image previous to current
- Made s keystroke save current image without forcing reload
- Made window auto-resize to the actual size of fetched image
- Added verify_image; currently only checks that filesize != 0
- Added version and filename to window title

web-chpass 1.4

web-chpass 1.4

web-chpass utility allows users to change their account password through the web. more>>
web-chpass utility allows users to change their account password through the web. This package was written with security and flexibility as the primary concerns--and in that order. It runs on systems that use PAM to manage user authorizations. At this time, it has been tested only on Red Hat 7.2.
The web pages produced are completely customizable. The chpass.cgi utility contains no HTML. Instead, web pages are produced from an external template.
"Bad password" checking can be optionally enabled. As distributed, the web page template offers the user a choice, with these checks enabled by default.
This package includes several components that may be useful for other applications. The nipasswd utility allows non-privileged programs to authenticate users and change passwords in a
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a bug with previously unexpected "Password changed" notices from PAM on SuSE 10.1.

XFwall 1.4-37st

XFwall 1.4-37st

XFwall is a professional graphical firewall system for Linux aimed at corporate users. more>>
XFwall is a professional graphical firewall system for Linux aimed at corporate users.
XFwall firewall can be used with clients, servers, and gateway machines, and runs on Fedora Core, Debian 3.1 (Sarge), Red Hat, and Conectiva Linux.
Installation:
Change to the source code directory and run:
./configure
make
make install
Notes:
1) The configure script above relies on the $QTDIR enviroment variable to find the TrollTech QT Library that is usually installed with the qt-devel package. At least for RH9 and FC2, there is no need to worry about the $QTDIR variable.
2) For MySQL support, you must have installed a QT library with MySQL driver included. Otherwise, XFwall will report that MySQL Driver was not loaded.
Enhancements:
- Build system greatly improved.
- XFwall now can detect many Linux distros.
- It supports internationalization.
- New Open Source logo screen.
- New resources in Profile options (Ctrl-P).
- Now SVN version is also available.

PHP firewall generator 2.0

PHP firewall generator 2.0

The PHP Firewall Generator is a simple PHP script that generates a firewall script for iptables or ipchains based firewalls. more>>
The PHP Firewall Generator is a simple PHP script that generates a firewall script for iptables or ipchains based firewalls. The script is created based on configuration rules entered by the user. The aim is to support a rule set similar to those supported by commercial Firewall systems, and make it easy to configure.

Make sure that you have apache and PHP installed (tested with apache-1.3.19-5 and php-4.0.4 from Red Hat 7.1 but shouldwork with others).

Make sure that PHP is actually running.
Make sure that you have iptables installed. Tested with iptables-1.2.1a-1 from Red Hat 7.1
Run this as root:
make install
If you dont have make installed on your system, then you could just run:
installme
Make sure that the files in /var/www/html/phpfwgen/ are readable by the HTTP daemon user (often httpd or apache) and that the files in /var/lib/phpfwgen are readable AND writeable by this user.
The script gets copied into /var/www/html/phpfwgen/ so you should be able to access it as http:// /phpfwgen/
Make sure that the files created in /var/lib/phpfwgen make sense, particularly the "interfaces" file.

Fedora 7 / 8 Test 1

Fedora 7 / 8 Test 1

Fedora is the next genaration Linux distribution from Red Hat. more>>
Fedora Core is now available from Red Hat and at distinguished mirror sites near you, and is also available in the torrent.
Fedora Core has expanded in this release to four binary ISO images and four source ISO images, and is available for both x86-64 and i386 and also PPC machines.
The Fedora Project is a Red-Hat-sponsored and community-supported open source project. It is also a proving ground for new technology that may eventually make its way into Red Hat products. It is not a supported product of Red Hat, Inc.
The goal of The Fedora Project is to work with the Linux community to build a complete, general purpose operating system exclusively from free software. Development will be done in a public forum. The project will produce time-based releases of Fedora Core about 2-3 times a year with a public release schedule.
The Red Hat engineering team will continue to participate in the building of Fedora Core and will invite and encourage more outside participation than was possible in Red Hat Linux.
By using this more open process, we hope to provide an operating system that uses free software development practices and is more appealing to the open source community.
Main features:
- KDE 3.5.4
- GNOME 2.16
- OpenOffice 2.0.4
- Kernel 2.6.17
- Xen
- ...and many more

checksysreport 1.0-0

checksysreport performs some automatic tests against a directory containing an untarred Red Hat Enterprise Linux sysreport. more>>
checksysreport project can perform some automatic tests against a directory containing an untarred Red Hat Enterprise Linux sysreport.
You will need a valid Red Hat Network login in order to use it, as it fetches information from RHN using the RHN API (see https://rhn.redhat.com/rpc/api/).
A graphical tool, yadarh, is also included: it uses the cache generated by checksysreport to display RPMs in a given channel and lets you browse them to have a list of errata and new entries in changelogs that come with other versions of the same package.
Enhancements:
Checksysreport 1.0 comes with a server and a client side so several clients can share a common cache repository.
- There is a checksysreport-server package that share its cache to checksysreport clients using postgresql.
- The server also accept sysreports to analyse from a web page.
- A cosmetic bug when copying changelogs diff in yadarh has been fixed.
- Fetching data from rhn is threaded.
- Client can be configured to use a satellite instead of rhn.redhat.com
- Makefile works for 108.redhat.coms svn
- Cleaner packaging, thanks to David Juran.
