AFROS Live CD
AFROS Live CD is a bootable CD with a small collection of GNU/Linux software, ARAnyM and the AFROS. more>>
AFROS Live CD is a bootable CD with a small collection of GNU/Linux software, ARAnyM and the AFROS. AFROS Live CD boots and runs completely from CD, does not write anything to the harddrive and so is safe to try out. It is meant as a demo version of ARAnyM/AFROS. It is not the dreamed Installation CD of ARAnyM yet (although it could be modified to work so).
The underlying Linux kernel and related software provide the CD autoboot, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. ARAnyM plus AFROS provide our familiar and favourite TOS/FreeMiNT/GEM operating environment. Its all integrated seamlessly and after PowerOn boots straight to the Teradesk (GEM desktop).
AFROS Live CD is distributed in the form of a CD ISO image which is the usual way of distributing CDs electronically. The ISO image file can be burnt on a CD-R/RW and so youll get an exact copy of the AFROS Live CD I created on my machine.
AFROS Live CD configuration:
fVDI resolution and/or color depth change: open up the C:FVDI.SYS (double click it and select Edit), locate the "01r aranym.sys mode 800x600x16@72" line, comment it out and uncomment one of the other prepared lines (or just make up your own). Then reboot the AFROS.
The ARAnyM Config GUI is unfinished yet so changes to ARAnyM config must be done outside of ARAnyM in the .aranym/config file. When you quit ARAnyM you should be able to edit the file with one of the supplied GNU/Linux editors (in the future this shouldnt be necessary as I am working on the Config GUI as you read this).
DSL site (AFROS Live CD is based on the DSL) might give you some hints about preserving the changes youve made to the AFROS disk image or ARAnyM configuration (you might also want to read File Restoration -> HowTo in the X11 desktop). Note that this is untested by me and might be dangerous. Try it on your own risk only.

Hikarunix 0.4
Hikarunix is a Linux live CD based on Damn Small Linux and dedicated to Go - a popular Asian strategy game. more>>
Hikarunix linux is a Live Linux CD distribution. Any PC that can boot to CD can boot to Hikarunix instead of the computers regular operating system. Since it boots entirely in RAM and only borrows the peripherals, Hikarunix doesnt touch the host machine at all.
Shut the machine down, pop the CD out, reboot and youll find yourself back with the same old OS that you started with. No installation or partitioning necessary. The fact that it fits on a pocket sized miniCD and can boot on just about any machine makes it extremely portable. Internet cafes, Library computers, a borrowed laptop can all be your personal, temporary Go workstation. If you wish you can also install it to your harddrive.
The name was inspired by the Japanese manga and anime series Hikaru No Go. Its about the world of Professional Go as seen by Junior High School student Hikaru and his ghost Go mentor Sai. Its a lot better then I make it sound, besides, admit it, reading comics is still fun. Pick up a copy of the English translation of the comic here.
Hikarunix itself and any additions Ive made are covered by the GNU General Public License, although the individual packages installed in Hikarunix retain their original licenses. This means that Hikarunix is entirely free. Feel welcome to make copies for your friends, family and co-workers, start a Go club and hand it out to all members. I put this CD together to open this great game to a wider audience, so the more copies that are out there the better.
Hikarunix will always be free, but if youd like to contribute to the cause you might consider donating to the project. You can also pick up an "official" miniCD, a Hikarunix USB drive, or a plethora of mugs and tshirts from our store. I also an just a beginner at Go and am still terrible at the game. If anyone would like to donate a Go lesson I can be found on most Go servers as t1ckt0ck.
Enhancements:
- firefox updated to 1.0.6 with support for Chinese/Japanese/Korean fonts
- Kogos Joseki updated to 27.Mar.2005
- Local snapshot of Senseis Library updated to 3.Jan.2005
- GNUGo updated to 3.7.4
- Jacoto 1.2.15 added as primary SGF manager
- Quarry updated to 0.1.14
- CGoban updated to 2.6.12
- sgf2misc updated to 2.9.2
- simple GUIs for easier access to sgf2misc, sgfmerger, and sgfsplit
- GoGrinder updated to 1.11
- Jago updated to 4.6
- PANDA-glGo updated to 1.3.1
- qGo updated to 1.0.2
- K3s UGF/SGF/NGF Conversion tool added
- Now over 9300 Go Problems (3400+ than 0.3)
- Now over 8500 Game records (2600+ than 0.3)
- Simplified/Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean locales and fonts (experimental)

PSKlive 2007_2
PSKlive is a live distro specifically made for the PSKmail project. more>>
PSKlive is a live distro specifically made for the PSKmail project. The project is meant to help hams try out the PSKmail system.
What is a live distro ?
A live distro is a Linux distribution that is executed upon boot. Execution is done entirely from the boot media (cd) and the harddrive is not affected (and not even needed). A live cd is a great way to try out new things and get started quickly. You download the iso, burn it and boot your pc from the cd (just restart and have the cd in the reader). So, there is no need for installing anything on your PC. Everything is executed from the CD so the PC is left untouched. There is a live installer available and you may use that if you wish to install PSKlive permanently on your PC.
What is PSKmail ?
PSKmail is a narrow band mail delivery system for use by amateur radio hams via short wave (HF) communication. There is a wiki available where more info on the project is available, plese see the links section for that
So, what is PSKlive?
PSKlive is a remastered version of Mandriva 2007 Free edition. Also, the distro directly inherits the nice work from the MCNlive project (please see the links section).

Kororaa Beta2-r1
Kororaa project is a way of installing Gentoo Linux easily and quickly, similar to Gentoos more>>
Kororaa project is a way of installing Gentoo Linux easily and quickly, similar to Gentoos "Stage3 with GRP packages" install.
Whats different?
For Kororaa we wrote an install script to go along with our install method which takes care of most of the manual configuring required under the Gentoo method;
The Kororaa build is derived from Bob Ps Stage 1/3 install method;
Also, we have pre-defined a wide suite of KDE based (and now also Gnome based) applications for your use and designed the entire system specifically for these;
We have also added a large number tweaks and automations along the way to assist in the Kororaa experience.
Whats the point of it?
I must state that I adore the manual Gentoo way of installing. In fact, I swore against an installer for Gentoo for a long time and this stance has not really changed. What I wanted however was a way to quickly re-produce a desktop installation for multiple machines. I also wanted a tool that I could give to friends who liked the idea of Gentoo but complained about the "compile time". I dont think that missing out on the Gentoo experience because of "compile time" is valid and so I wanted a way to introduce my friends to Gentoo without having to build their systems myself.
I cannot more strongly recommend the Gentoo install method if you are serious about learning both Gentoo and GNU/Linux in general. I owe Gentoo a lot - I played with Redhat* back in 1998 (thanks to Andrew Tridgell) but then fell into "RPM hell" and went around from distro to distro in a mad seething rage of desperation. Then I came across Gentoo 1.1 and it was love at first install.
So, if youre someone who doesnt want to wait to get a nicely configured Gentoo system, is so afraid of the standard install method that its stopping you from trying Gentoo at all, or youre a lazy pig then this method is for you!
Note: You can use our stage3, portage snapshot and packages together with the standard Gentoo "Stage3 GRP" install if you want to try it that way too!
What else?
The Kororaa system comes pre-configured for a Pentium3. We chose Pentium3 because most people should have an SSE capable processor by now.
This means it will run on any P3 Coppermine core and later, including AMD Athlon-XP, Athlon64/Opteron, Sempron etc and Intel Pentium 4, Pentium M, Xeon etc.
Please note it will NOT work on a system without SSE support.
As of Beta2 however, we have also released an AMD64 version, which will run on any AMD 64bit cpu including Athlon64, Sempron64 and Opteron.
If you want more optimisation, you can easily re-build your system with all the current apps and configuration by changing your make.conf and rebuilding world.
Please note the system is currently BETA, a bit "hacky" and could destroy your harddrive or something even more nasty like bowed legs and a crooked smile.

StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5.0.0
StartCom Enterprise Linux operating systems, are based on the RedHat Enterprise and Fedora source code. more>>
Linux is a UNIX like Operating System, famous for its reliability and security features, that runs on all kinds of computers. Linux was started by Linus Torwalds in 1991. The Linux Kernel and most applications it offers, are mostyl GPL licensed, called Open Source.
StartCom Enterprise Linux operating systems, are based on the RedHat Enterprise and Fedora source code each modified with reliability, security and efficiency in mind, to fit the tasks assigned to each flavor of StartCom Linux.
View the Screenshots to get an idea how StartCom Linux looks.
Enhancements:
- The newest StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5.0.0 joins a series of successful and reliable operating systems build and distributed over the last three years by StartCom Ltd. This latest release provides full support for virtualization - the running of multiple instances of operating systems on one physical hardware unit. Depending on the installation preferences, AS-5.0.0 can function as server platform as well as advanced client workstation.
- StartCom Linux is using the latest in open source technology and with its known stability, reliability and security allows for mission-critical server deployments. The Global File System (GFS) provided in AS-5.0.0 allows the building and maintaining of high availability computer clusters, mainly used for data centers.
- The natural support of the XEN hypervisor, makes the running of multiple virtualized server instances possible. The benefits of server virtualization are consolidation, increased utilization, an ability to rapidly provision and start a virtual machine, and increased ability to dynamically respond to hardware failures by moving a virtual machine to different hardware.
- The enhanced usability of the desktop applications makes AS-5.0.0 also an excellent choice for client and development workstations. Many well known products such as Firefox, OpenOffice and Eclipse IDE are provided already during installation as possible options.
- StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5.0.0 codenamed "Kishuf" is available for Intel i386 and AMD x86_64 architectures. DVD ISO images can be downloaded for free or ordered for a nominal fee. Alternative installation options via network or harddrive are also available.

wmhdaps 0.04
wmhdaps goal is to provide a tool for configuration of the Harddisk Active Protection System (HDAPS). more>>
wmhdaps goal is to provide a tool for configuration of the Harddisk Active Protection System (HDAPS) found in some R/G/T thinkpad models.
HDAPS is realized as an acceleration sensor mounted on systemboard and a userspace tool which detects based on acceleration values from sensor shocks and freezes the harddrive(s) until the "shock" is over.
In the current version 0.02 actually is only able to visualize the movements of the notebook as a 3D model based on the acceleration values read from sensor.
Enhancements:
- In Version 0.04 redraws only occur when something changed. This helps to save power. As it doesnt redraw constantly it gives the notbook a chance to enter the power states C3/C4. Nathan Lay kindly contributed the port of wmhdaps for FreeBSD. Use Makefile.FreeBSD to compile on FreeBSD.

DRBL 1.7.11-29
Diskless Remote Boot in Linux (DRBL) provides a diskless or systemless environment for client machines. more>>
Diskless Remote Boot in Linux in short DRBL is an open source environment to to manage GNU/Linux operating system deployment. Imagine the time required to install GNU/Linux on 40, 30, or even 10 client machines individually. DRBL will allow you to configure all of your client computers by installing just one server machine.
DRBL uses PXE/etherboot, NFS, and NIS to provide services to client machines, so you do not have install GNU/Linux on the harddrive of the clients. Once the server is ready to be a DRBL server, then the client machines can boot via PXE/etherboot (diskless).
"DRBL" does NOT touch the harddrive of the clients, so other Operating Systems (for example, M$ Windows) installed on your client machines will not be affected.
This may be important in a phased deployment of GNU/Linux, where users still want to have the option of booting to Windows and running Office. DRBL allows you to be flexible in your deployment of GNU/Linux.
Harddrives are optional for a DRBL client. The harddrive is just another moving part to fail or create more noise. If a harddrive is present, then the client can be configured to use it as swap space, while GNU/Linux is installed and configured on the centralized boot server.
Using the DRBL centralized boot environment, you can save a lot of time by configuring the client settings at the boot server. This gives the system administrator more control over what software configurations are running on each client.
Main features:
- Coexist with other Operating Systems
- Install one server, you have all clients ready
- Save hardware budget and maintenance fee
Enhancements:
- Use updated mkpxeinitrd-net, which allows assigning dhcp server name.
- Some bugs fixed. Check Change Log for more details.

wmhdplop 0.9.8
wmhdplop monitors your hard drives and displays visual information about their activity. more>>
wmhdplop project monitors your hard drives and displays visual information about their activity (read, write, swapin, swapout), and optionally (if hddtemp is running as a daemon), displays their temperature/status.
Main features:
- 0-portability, wont compile/run on anything without a recent kernel (see requirements below)
- useless animation reflecting disc I/O.
- another useless animation reflecting swap activity.
- annoying blinking leds.
- a textual information of your harddrive throughput.
- supports ide drives, and (not 100% sure) scsi and md arrays.
- display of the hd temperature if the hddtemp daemon is running.
Installation:
The `configure shell script attempts to guess correct values for various system-dependent variables used during compilation. It uses those values to create a `Makefile in each directory of the package.
It may also create one or more `.h files containing system-dependent definitions.
Finally, it creates a shell script `config.status that you can run in the future to recreate the current configuration, and a file `config.log containing compiler output (useful mainly for debugging `configure).
It can also use an optional file (typically called `config.cache and enabled with `--cache-file=config.cache or simply `-C) that saves the results of its tests to speed up reconfiguring. (Caching is disabled by default to prevent problems with accidental use of stale cache files.)
If you need to do unusual things to compile the package, please try to figure out how `configure could check whether to do them, and mail diffs or instructions to the address given in the `README so they can be considered for the next release.
If you are using the cache, and at some point `config.cache contains results you dont want to keep, you may remove or edit it.
The file `configure.ac (or `configure.in) is used to create `configure by a program called `autoconf. You only need `configure.ac if you want to change it or regenerate `configure using a newer version of `autoconf.
The simplest way to compile this package is:
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system.
If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute `configure itself.
Running `configure takes awhile. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.
2. Type `make to compile the package.
3. Optionally, type `make check to run any self-tests that come with the package.
4. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.
5. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean. To also remove the files that `configure created (so you can compile the package for a different kind of computer), type `make distclean.
There is also a `make maintainer-clean target, but that is intended mainly for the packages developers. If you use it, you may have to get all sorts of other programs in order to regenerate files that came with the distribution.

Directory Synchronize 0.91
Directory Synchronize is the small handy utility you always missed! more>>
Directory Synchronize is the small handy utility you always missed! Directory Synchronize is small, reliable, and fast. And best of all - it is Open Source; released under the GPL you are free to use and distribute it.
Directory Synchronize synchronizes the contents of one directory to another. That means you can use it to backup your data on a regular basis to another computer or another harddrive.
Or you can use Directory Synchronize to synchronize the data on your laptop with the data on your desktop.
Programmed in real platform independent Java you can use Directory Synchronize on nearly every computer platform including Windows, Linux and Macintosh.
Use the Directory Synchronize GUI for starting, pausing and stopping a synchronization.
Or use the GUI to easily create and store a configuration and use the command line to automatically start it every time you boot up your computer.
Enhancements:
- Some bugs have been solved.
- If a file can not be accessed, only a warning is issued instead of issuing a critical error and halting synchronization.
- If you select a directory instead of a file as a log for a directory definition, a line-separator was added instead of a file-separator.
- Some NullPointerExceptions in console mode have been fixed.
- The " " wildcard can be used for the path of the global log, and the " " wildcard can be used for the name of the current directory definition in the directory definition log filename.

BasicLinux 3.50
BasicLinux is designed specifically for old PCs. more>>
BasicLinux is designed specifically for old PCs. It uses a small kernel and busybox to provide a low-RAM Linux, capable of browsing the web, doing email, and functioning as an X terminal.
The current release of BasicLinux is particularly suitable for old laptops -- it has PCMCIA capability and includes MagicPoint (a presentation tool similar to PowerPoint).
The current release of BasicLinux is 3.32. BasicLinux comes in two versions: one boots from a DOS harddrive, the other boots from floppies. Both versions have the option to install themselves to a Linux partition on the harddrive.
BasicLinux has a slim IDE kernel and a small set of common modules. If you need a more capable kernel and/or additional kernel modules, you should get them from Slackware 7.1. You will find kernels in the /kernels directory and modules in the /modules directory.

autocrypt 0.0.3
autocrypt is an automatic crypted disk mapping creation with rootplug. more>>
autocrypt its a set of scripts that use linux hotplug/udev/cryptoapi mechanism to allow you autocrypting a harddrive what do I means by autocrypting : I means using a "rootplug" ie an identification device to activate the possibility of mounting automatically a crypted device.
Youll need such tool if typically you have some data you require to protect whith cryptography and that you want not creating the node "by hand" each time (this require root privileges) look at the following scenario :
you work into a company which data are sensitives
you dont want to encrypt your home using pam crypt because
you dont want to have to setup your workspace each time you come back.
So you dant want to logout, using a screensaver to prevent use of your computer. But while youre loged the data are accessible.... a malicious hacker can login to you box via network and have access to your data....
You can manually create the cryting device mounting and umounting them at demand but this means you have root privilege you can use a special identification device, a "key" that do it for you.... thats autocrypt this solution use the widely available usbkeys/drives to create the unencrypted devices when the key is pluged and to remove it safely when the device is removed.

redWall Firewall 2.2.3
redWall Firewall is a bootable CD-ROM firewall with IDS, IPS, proxy, reporting, and spam filtering. more>>
redWall is a bootable CD-ROM Firewall. redWall Firewalls goal is to provide a feature rich firewall solution, with the main goal, to provide a webinterface for all the logfiles generated!
Main features:
- Configuration is currenty stored on a floppy/USB Memory Stick/Harddrive or sent by email (see todo !)
- Due the fact, that most reporting functionality is done via mysql (except for the squid reports), its possible to use the cd as a Mangagement/Logging Console for other firewalls running in your environment using the same cd! Take snort for instance.. you can have 10 firewalls :) running snort, reporting back to the main database on the management/Logging system, in order to have a central "overview" of all your firewalls... Using the SAME CD !! Its all up to you how you configure your firewall and/or Management box !
- based on redhat 9.0
- bridging support
- Mail Virusscanning, spamfiltering and gateway functionality
- /etc is writable (tmpfs) feeded by the configuration medium
- /var is writable (ramdisk or harddisk) (you are not going to run squid on a ramdisk... arent you ?)
- The cd will (at least it should) detect all your network cards (using kudzu) during the initial boot
- During the initial boot, you can setup some basic things like IP Address, Services to start (all disabled by default) and so on
Enhancements:
- A whole lot of new features have been added.
- vuurmuur has been installed again.
- The initial setup has been rewritten to be like a step-by-step configuration.
- A webmin module for openvpn has been added.
- A comprehensive reverse proxy called vultureng has been added.
- Major bugfixes have been applied.

Trailerfetcher 0.3 Alpha
Trailerfetcher is video conversion application. more>>
Trailerfetcher is video conversion application.
As an owner of a small home-cinema system I got an idea: Wouldnt it be neat if before every film you play, mythtv would automatically show you a few trailers of other cool films too come (or already there)?
Trailers would also allow you to "ease into" actually watching the film and cover the whole "lets get the popcorn"-phase, etc.
But I already knew what a hassle it is to download _one_ trailer from sites like yahoo or apple.com. So I decided to make it easy:
This application provides an easy to use interface for downloading trailers. It fetches a list from a trailerpage (currently only yahoo.com) and lists all avalible trailers.
It then summarize the found trailers and displays info about the title, the genre and a short describtion of the plot. All this is fetched and extracted automatically.
You can than mark the trailers you want to download and simply press "Download" to save them to your harddrive.
Ok this was the marketing talk. I wrote this software because I needed it (probably the reason for most open-source-projects), but it is far from feature-complete. It is usable though (it loaded all 73 currently avalible trailers from yahoo.com last night).
AFAIK it is perfectly legal to download these trailers. If anyone thinks it isnt: please feel free to delete the project.
Usage notes: Set the settings before retrieving the list! Some settings (e.g. the resolution) will not take effect if you dont.
