Helherron 2.04
Helherron is a fantasy RPG game for PC computers. more>>
Helherron is a fantasy RPG game for PC computers.
The isle of Helherron is at chaos. Beloved King Krohl has been kidnapped. Nobody knows by whom, but the legends are wild. The villagers tell, still shaking in terror, that it was done by dark, winged man-like creatures that took off to the sky shrieking, with poor King Krolh with them.
And worse yet, the isles seem to be cursed somehow. Its hard to determine how, but you sure can feel it. It hangs in the air heavy, like a Shadow of Death, and you can see it shimmering bloody red in the horizon of the night sky.
The villagers tell that just lately, after King Krolh was kidnapped, their villages have been raided by grotesque cross-breeds between man and beast. Most apparently that is also due to the Curse placed over Helherron and its sister isles. But the worst is yet to be told.
The Divine Sceptre, given to the people of Helherron by the Divine Cleric Order and crafted by the Creator itself, which was at King Krolhs possession, is now missing too. It was most apparently stolen at the same time King Krolh was kidnapped. Thus, the only hope for Helherron is to send a party of heroes to find the Divine Sceptre so that order and peace can be once again returned.

The Hunted Chronicle 2
The Hunted is a single player FPS game based off of the Darkplaces engine. more>>
The Hunted is a single player FPS game based off of the Darkplaces engine. It is completely standalone, meaning that you do not need any prior files to run it, and it comes in a series called chronicles.
These chronicles are used for having a continuously flowing story and a difference in weaponry and in other things found in-game.
Each chronicle tells the story of a lone survivor escaping the city that has been overcome by the infected.
The symptoms of the infected at the time of the survivors adventure are not clear but as the chronicles are released, the story unfolds to make it quite clear as to why, where, when, and how this survivor came to be in a horror show such as this.
Main features:
- Completely recreated zombie and zombie code. Much more "realistic" in attack, range, and response time.
- Added random skin generator so zombies will be wearing different attire no matter how many times you play a map
- Added "Use" key, used to pick up boxes and move them to get to previously unattainable areas
- Added "story driven comics" used to help further the story and gives hints on puzzles
- Added all new weapon models
- Added fully functionable "secondary attack" (zoom with Mercs Gun, large swing with meathook)
- Added zombie footsteps
- FIXED**bug where zombies faking dead on ground would still block a players way
- FIXED**HUD/glock-pistol ammo malfunctions
- Added place_model attributes to have spatialization options and other effects to create global audio ambience and better effects using DarkPlaces extensions
- Added muzzleflash
- Added flashlight
- Added multiple new enemies

BuddySpace PRO 2.6
BuddySpace is an enhanced Jabber client providing secure presence management, web services and instant messaging. more>>
BuddySpace is an instant messenger with four novel twists: (1) it allows optional maps for geographical & office-plan visualizations in addition to standard buddy lists; (2) it is built on open source Jabber, which makes it interoperable with ICQ, MSN, Yahoo and others; (3) it is implemented in Java, so it is cross-platform; (4) it is built by a UK research lab, so it is 100% free with full sources readiily available. But BuddySpace is about more than just messaging, as we explain below.
One of the key factors that led to the widespread popularity of Instant Messaging applications from 1997 onwards (including ICQ, AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, Odigo, and Jabber messengers) was the concept of pushed presence: the automatic notification of the appearance of friends and colleagues online.
However, Instant Messaging (IM) is just one of many possible presence-related and presence-dependent applications. For example, presence-enabled applications can facilitate safety-tracking of children by mobile phone, support for emergency services, blind-date radar, group teleconference management, multiplayer games, and anything involving the collaboration of individuals separated in space and time.
Why phone a contact only to receive an engaged tone or pre-recorded message, when the telephone network already knows what state your contact is in, and could indicate this directly on your contact list? All of these concepts embody varying degrees of what we refer to as enhanced presence management.
The concept of presence has matured in recent years to move away from the simple notion of online/offline/away, towards a rich blend of attributes that can be used to characterise an individuals physical and/or spatial location, work trajectory, time frame of reference, mental mood, goals, and even intentions! Our challenge is how best to characterise presence, how to make it easy to manage and easy to visualise, and how to remain consistent with the users own expectations, work habits, and existing patterns of Instant Messaging and other communication tool usage.
BuddySpace generalizes the concept of Buddy List (popularised by Instant Messaging tools such as AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger) to provide multiple views of collaborative workgroups according to users needs and tastes. Our aim has been to provide a personal dashboard or radar screen so that one can observe the availability and interaction state of colleagues worldwide in a manner that exhibits the following desirable properties:
* immediate: real-time updates need to be pushed instantly to users rather than pulled in by request -- the push approach helps keep updates more palpable and informative
* peripheral and therefore non-intrusive: users lead busy lives, and dislike being bombarded with yet more information, so we aim to keep awareness of colleagues available in a compact manner that can be noticed peripherally
* customisable: some people prefer simple or hierarchical lists, some prefer visual maps, some prefer status lights, and so on; some prefer a Windows look-and-feel, some a Mac-- we need to cater for diverse user preferences and capabilities
* scaleable: we have to provide ways to indicate the presence of potentially enormous numbers of people, even given that these numbers will be filtered down for personal use -- researchers inhabit workspaces with many hundreds of colleagues around the globe; the Open University has well over 150,000 students online; large peer-spaces like music swapping communities have many millions of users connected simultaneously
* interoperable: with several hundred million users of the Big Four (AIM/ICQ/MSN/Yahoo!), it is crucial that any approach allow interopebility with systems to which our users already subscribe; this is one of the many reasons we built BuddySpace entirely on top of Jabber (www.jabber.org), which provides gateways to the Big Four products.
* cross-platform: we need to service a community not only on Windows, Unix/Linux, and Mac desktop and notebook configurations, but also on PDAs and mobile phones -- we therefore develop entirely in Java
* XML-literate: for future intelligent applications, communication transport needs to be about more than just string-transmission; another we adopted Jabber is that it is based entirely on a generic XML transport architecture, ideally suited for this purpose.
* open source: for the research community to join us and to gain leverage via our research output, we have ensured that BuddySpace is open source, available on SourceForge.
* clean: BuddySpace adheres rigorously to the Jabber specification, which means that it interoperates with other Jabber clients and servers without danger of the rogue behaviour that non-standard implementations inadvertently allow (e.g. the semantics of users inhabiting multiple groups is undefined in some clients, and can cause crashes).
* extendable: BuddySpace deploys a plug-in architecture which means that additions, such as new visualizations, and new concepts such as gaming interfaces, are readily achievable
BuddySpace fulfills all the above criteria, and provides a compelling user interface that can be highly compact, yet provide users with an important feel-good factor, akin to seeing nearby office lights turned on when entering ones office building at night. By studying the semantics of presence, we can also augment the existing impoverished presence states in a principles manner, providing capabilities that are more representative of the way real users work. Forthcoming capabilities will include automatic location updates via mobile devices, and the use of semantic matchmaking via intelligent profile handling, in order to help users quickly find and filter colleagues of particular interest.

Hotplough 0.0
Hotplough is a Linux hotplug subsystem support tool. more>>
Hotplough is a Linux hotplug subsystem support tool. It is started whenever the hotplug event occurs - e.g. when you insert a USB device, ifconfig up your network interface, plug in the PCMCIA card, etc. The task of hotplug support tool is to load appropriate modules into kernel and do whatever else the administrator of the system wants it to perform.
Once I upgraded my kernel to 2.6 branch I found out that the murasaki hotplug support system isnt working anymore. Checking out the murasaki homepage at that time was of little help. The usual upgrade story.
So I tried the hotplug support script, mentioned somewhere in kernel documentation or the post-halloween document... Well, it worked. But, even though I dont reboot daily, I thought I cant afford the luxury of wasting 10-15 minutes on the mere bootup. Besides, hotplug events may happen to occur not only when I reboot and to put such a load on the machine when I, say, synchronize my handheld doesnt sound appealing either.
These unfortunate events took place, doubtlessly in order that the next KIN might be born. And yes, I decided to rewrite the whole thing. No wonder that when redone in c, things work tons faster.
Thus came the hotplough. If you run the tool with no parameters (kernel will never do so) with root privileges and /proc filesystem mounted it will install itself as a hotplug handler in the /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug. This should be done somewhere in the very beginning of your initscripts.
Speaking of which. You should receive a word of warning here. So, let me explain why you dont want to use hotplough. Most likely youre using one of the countless linux distributions that do everything for you and in return expect you to maintain compatibility with them. Since I do not use any distribution (real men compile from sources, dont they?) I didnt have to and didnt want to make hotplough compatible with any existing implementation, even though it may work in similar manner.
And for the brave souls who keep reading on, another warning: the current version lacks features. In particular theres no support of PCI hotplug which I am not using and dont expect to start using in the nearest future. It also lacks PCMCIA hotplug support which is likely to come as soon as I will install linux on my notebook which is not used now. If you feel like implementing missing features yourself, your patches are welcome.
Now that the weak of will are scared off, the only thing left to explain is where to store your hotplug agents (i.e. executables to be launched at particular hotplug events). Unless you specify otherwise, the base directory for agents is ${prefix}/etc/hotplough. It is expected to have subdirectories for different device classes, such as bluetooth, net, tty, usb and the most special (or better the least special) of them - generic.
At this time if you want to know more details on how to lay out the aforementioned directory or what d-bus signals hotplough sends you will have to either look up the code or ask a specific question.
